Hannah Storm Breaks Down Over Death of John Saunders

Hannah Storm was faced with every reporter's worst nightmare on Wednesday afternoon: She had to announce the death of a colleague and good friend. On live television. The SportsCenter anchor was hosting ESPN's lead show from Brazil, in honor of the Summer Olympics, when the shocking news came down that John Saunders was dead . A fixture at the company since 1986, Saunders passed away suddenly at the age of 61. He had served for years as host of The Sports Reporters, whole covering everything at the cable network, from professional hockey to Major League Baseball All-Star Games to college football. “John was an extraordinary talent and his friendly, informative style has been a warm welcome to sports fans for decades,” said ESPN President John Skipper upon his passing. “His wide range of accomplishments across numerous sports and championship events is among the most impressive this industry has ever seen. “More importantly, John was a beloved and devoted family man who cared deeply about people and causes, as evidenced by his long-standing efforts as a passionate board member for The V Foundation for Cancer Research. “He was one of the most significant and influential members of the ESPN family, as a colleague and mentor, and he will be sorely missed. “Our thoughts are with his loved ones at this extremely difficult time.” Incredibly, this was the second time Storm had been on live television when a co-worker died. She was also forced to react in the moment when Stuart Scott died of cancer last year. Watch her handle the responsibility as nobly and as professionally as one possibly can under such a circumstance:

Case Closed?: New Book Claims Evidence Proving Marilyn Monroe Was Murdered By The Kennedy Family

Turns out all the conspiracy theories were correct… New Nonfiction Claims Proof that Marilyn Monroe Was Murdered By Bobby Kennedy A new book written by an investigative reporter claims to prove multiple conspiracy theories about the starlet’s mysterious death. The author presents eyewitness accounts and documentation to prove that the Hollywood icon was killed to keep the secret of her affairs with multiple members of the powerful Kennedy family, including President John F. Kennedy. RadarOnline reports: Marilyn Monroe’s death on August 4, 1962 was not a suicide but a murder orchestrated by Bobby Kennedy to silence her as she was about to reveal all the dirty Kennedy family secrets she kept logged in a little red diary. And Bobby did not act alone. He had co-conspirators in her murder – his brother-in-law, actor Peter Lawford, and Marilyn’s psychiatrist, Dr. Ralph Greenson who gave the star a fatal injection of pentobarbital to the heart. The volume – The Murder of Marilyn Monroe: Case Closed – claims to blow the lid off the world’s most notorious and talked-about celebrity death through eyewitness testimony and interviews, MailOnline can exclusively reveal. ‘Bobby Kennedy was determined to shut her up, regardless of the consequences’, Peter Lawford later revealed, according to the authors, feeling wracked with guilt over the star’s murder. ‘It was the craziest thing he ever did – and I was crazy enough to let it happen’. It was a murder allegedly witnessed by ambulance attendant James C. Hall, who arrived at the film star’s home and saw Monroe’s psychiatrist Dr. Greenson inject Marilyn directly into her heart with undiluted pentobarbital, brutally breaking a rib with the needle. He was set up by Bobby to ‘take care’ of Marilyn. People have speculated for years that Marilyn’s “suicide” was actually a grandiose government plot to keep the Kennedy family image clean…and now there’s a whole book’s worth of documented proof! Will you be reading?

REVIEW: When Humans Aren’t On-Screen, The Muppets Achieves Pure, Distilled Joy

Can something be considered fan fiction if it’s also an official, canonical studio product? I’m going to argue yes, absolutely, because with The Muppets , Jason Segel has crafted what can only be described as the most extravagant work of fan fiction ever, Mary Sue-ing himself into the Muppet universe as a character who helps reunite the gang in order to save their old theater and the day. Segel, who co-wrote the film with Nicholas Stoller, even leaves his own tentative mark on Jim Henson’s beloved ensemble by inserting a personal addition in the form of alter ego Walter (voiced by Peter Linz), his character’s Muppet brother and the group’s most devoted fan even when the rest of the world seems to have forgotten about them. Fandom can be a precarious thing — someone’s devotion to the source material he or she is adapting to screen can sometimes lead to being too cautious with it, too respectful to do what’s best for the movie instead of only for the hardcore supporters. But the love Segel has for the Muppets is a genuine, perceivable and positive quality that suffuses this good-hearted revitalization of the franchise, and if some wish fulfillment sneaks in there too, it seldom gets in the way of the enjoyment to be had.

Revisit the JFK Assassination with a New Errol Morris Short

President John F. Kennedy was assassinated 48 years ago today in Dallas, Texas, prompting what would become the biggest single market in conspiracy theories until 9/11. Many of them came bundled in such staggeringly ambitious work as Oliver Stone’s JFK , Don DeLillo’s Libra , and Josiah “Tink” Thompson’s exhaustive Zapruder film study Six Seconds in Dallas — the latter of which filmmaker and Movieline favorite Errol Morris reconnects with today for an intriguing new short exploring the legend of that fateful day’s “Umbrella Man.”

Erykah Badu Pays Fine For ‘Window Seat’ Video

Singer hit with six months of probation for stripping in Dallas streets. By Gil Kaufman Erykah Badu Photo: Bryan Bedder/ Getty Images The global publicity bump Erykah Badu got for stripping down to her essentials and walking the streets of Dallas for her “Window Seat” video shoot was probably well worth the $500 fine she finally paid last week. A Dallas city spokesperson said the singer paid the maximum fine and agreed to serve six months probation for the stunt, in which she was filmed slowly taking off her clothes as she walked through Dealey Plaza, the site of President John F. Kennedy’s assassination in 1963. The incident took place on March 13, and a defiant Badu entered a not guilty plea in April to a charge of disorderly conduct. “I thought it was a move for women and men and children who feel they weren’t good enough,” Badu told MTV News on April 8 about the controversial clip, in which she is shot down at the end. ” ‘This is just me. I’m good enough.’ I felt it was important enough to do. More pros than cons.” According to a statement from City of Dallas public information officer Jose Torres, Badu’s probation will end around February 11, 2011, and she faces the revocation of her probation if she commits any city, state or federal offenses during her six-month term. The Texas native must also notify the court about any address changes within 10 days of moving. If her probation is violated, Badu will have a criminal conviction on her record. Badu didn’t file for an official permit to shoot the video. The directors of the video, Chike and Coodie, told MTV News that they were well aware of potential attention from law-enforcement officials. They also said Badu was fully prepared for the consequences . “We had bail money and everything,” Coodie said. “I think she really wanted to get arrested and even make a bigger message.” A spokesperson for Badu could not be reached for comment at press time. Halak Traded From Montreal To Blues For Prospects Eller, Schultz

Pierre Leburn of ESPN is reporting that prospects Lars Eller and Ian Schultz are the return in Thursday’s trade of goaltender Jaroslav Halak from Montreal to St. Louis. Eller was the Blues first round pick, chosen 13th overall, in 2007. He’s one of the best prospects in the Blues system. He played seven games with the NHL club this season, scoring two goals in those games. He’s a nicely sized prospect who has a very well-rounded skill set. Schultz, who last played with Calgary of the WHL, is less of a known asset. He was selected in the third round by the Blues back in 2008 and his junior eligibility is up, meaning he’s set to turn pro. It would be shocking to see Schultz in the NHL with the Canadiens next season. The Blues have confirmed the trade on their website. There have been reports that Brad Boyes was involved as well, but that’s not included in the report by the Blues. Here’s a bit from it: ST. LOUIS – St. Louis Blues President John Davidson announced Thursday the club has acquired goaltender Jaroslav Halak from the Montreal Canadiens in exchange for forwards Lars Eller and Ian Schultz . “Jaroslav’s play in this year’s regular season and Stanley Cup Playoffs was remarkable,” said Davidson. “He has had very impressive numbers in the NHL and we are thrilled that he will be wearing the Bluenote for us.” Halak, 25, was 26-13-5 in 2009-10 for Montreal and ranked 4th in the NHL in save percentage (.940), 9th in goals against average (2.40) and was tied for 5th with five shutouts. In his 26 wins this season he had a GAA of 1.68 and a save % of .948. He was 4-2-0 vs. the Western Conference with a GAA of 2.19 and a .928 save %. The 2009-10 “Molson Cup” winner as team MVP was 44-27-6 over the last two seasons in Montreal with a save percentage of .924 and GAA of 2.59. Hilariously, Halak’s agent, Allan Walsh, had the following message on Twitter Wednesday night. Received an e-mail from reporter claiming inside knowledge that Jaro Halak just purchased big home in Montreal. Total fantasy. We’ll be back with reaction from both cities shortly.
