Might cozy there guys… Michael Strahan’s “Live” Debut Boosts Ratings 44% Michael Strahan’s debut alongside Kelly Ripa on ABC’s syndicated TV program “Live With Kelly and Michael” boosted the audience by 44 percent from a year ago. Yesterday’s show with the former New York Giants football player as co-host was the most-watched daytime program in 14 of the top 15 television markets, Walt Disney Co. (DIS)’s ABC said in a e-mailed statement, citing preliminary Nielsen ratings. ABC tapped Strahan as the permanent replacement for Regis Philbin, who retired from the show in 2011. The program had relied on guest hosts for the last nine months. Strahan, who played with the Giants for 15 years culminating with a 2008 Super Bowl victory, will continue as an on-air commentator of “Fox NFL Sunday.” Produced by Disney’s WABC-TV in New York, the number of viewers who watched the program in that market more than doubled from September 2011, and was more than twice that of its nearest competitor, NBC’s “Today” show, according to the statement. Disney, based in Burbank, California, climbed 3 percent to $51.16 at 1:15 p.m. in New York trading. The stock had gained 32 percent this year through yesterday. Regis Philbin’s replacement on ABC could be Rob Lowe, reports say. Lowe just finished a two-day stint guest hosting with Kelly Ripa and an ABC source says the top network brass “loved the chemistry between them.” Network executives have spoken with Lowe’s reps about making it a permanent gig, but Lowe, who stars on Parks and Recreation , is non-committal. There’s a big surprise. One of the more itinerant actors around, Lowe has departed in the middle of numerous programs’ runs in pursuit of other projects. Rob was just asked by TMZ whether he’s moving to New York. He said: “We were just talking about that. I love New York. I love the energy. It would be a change of pace. January 30 marks the 100th installment of the CW hit we know and love, and on Saturday night, the cast celebrated the completion of its filming with a red carpet event at Cipriani Wall Street in New York. It was, as expected, a stylish affair. In addition to their male co-stars , Blake Lively and Leighton Meester were on hand, albeit a few hours late, leaving the cameras breathlessly awaiting their arrival. Regis Philbin’s last show Friday boosted ratings of Live With Regis and Kelly to near-record highs, with ABC scoring a 7.3 household rating and 23 percent share. Philbin’s swan song included a celebrity packed audience, taped accolades from celebrities and a key to the city presented by New York Mayor Mike Bloomberg. Ratings were up 157 percent year-over-year, leaving many fans wondering what the network will do to replace him … and specifically who will fill his shoes. Questions for another time.
