Dancing With the Stars Finals Recap: Rob Kardashian Takes Command!

The 13th season of Dancing With the Stars has come down to one night. Ricki Lake. Rob Kardashian. J.R. Martinez. All worthy parquet performers, as we know, but there can be only one Mirror Ball holder at the end of this. Who will it be? Apparently no one told Rob that J.R. and Ricki were the consensus picks all season long, or that he was a 4-1 underdog headed into the final Monday of the season. Because he’s in sole possession of the lead right now! His lead is only three points over both competitors, so this is going down to the wire. But who thought Rob Kardashian would be here now, let alone in first place? Seriously, if you’ve watched this season at all, you knew he was good, maybe even a dark horse contender. But few saw him ever sitting on top of the world. Rob and Cheryl Burke earned a perfect 30, their first of the fall, with a retro, Charleston-utilizing freestyle. When he said it was his time to peak, he meant it! “This competition is often won or lost in the freestyle round and to get a 10 you have to blow us away. Consider me blown!” raved DWTS judge Carrie Ann Inaba. J.R. Martinez and Karina Smirnoff earned a 30 of their own with an ’80s hip-hop / samba mash-up that made you wanna get down. But their first dance hurt them. A cha-cha that was deemed “not very good” by Len netted only 24 points. Meanwhile, Ricki Lake and Derek Hough received two sets of all nines on Monday. All of that left Rob in first place on the leaderboard for the first time, albeit not by much, on the even of the final vote tallying. What a great season it’s been! Watching proudly along with her whole family was Kim Kardashian , in the house for the first time since announcing the end of her fake marriage to that guy. “Did u guys see that!!!!!!” Kim tweeted afterward. “All 10’s in the freestyle!!!! OMG I swear the whole fam is in tears!!!!! Let’s go baby! Team CherBert!” It’s all up to the fans right now. Can they help the lagging teams make up the gap? Here’s a look at how Monday’s Dancing With the Stars scores shook out: Rob Kardashian & Cheryl Burke: (27, 30) 57 J.R. Martinez & Karina Smirnoff: (24, 30) 54 Ricki Lake & Derek Hough: (27, 27) 54 Who do you think has danced the best? Do you agree with scores, top to bottom? Most importantly, who do you think should hoist the Mirror Ball tonight?! Comment below, and vote for who you think will win!

John Edwards Trial Scheduled For January

A judge has set the trial of former presidential candidate John Edwards to begin January 30, a week earlier than when prosecutors and defense lawyers sought. In federal court, U.S. District Judge Catherine Eagles signed an order Tuesday setting the schedule for Edwards’ trial on charges of campaign finance violations. Edwards was indicted following an exhaustive investigation in June. John Edwards is accused of asking two wealthy campaign donors to provide nearly $1 million in secret payments used to hide pregnant mistress Rielle Hunter . Making matters even worse is the fact that he was a serious candidate for the Democratic Party’s nomination for the White House in 2007 and early 2008. His wife, the late Elizabeth Edwards, was also battling cancer at the time. Edwards says he knew nothing of the checks, cash and private jets used to fly Rielle Hunter across the country and put her up in luxury homes and hotels. We are not the judge or jury in the case, and every American has the constitutional right to a fair trial and the presumption of innocence … but come ON.

Taylor Swift Embraces Role as Role Model

Taylor Swift will be featured on tomorrow night’s installment of 60 Minutes and, in a few excerpts released from the upcoming interview, the star makes it clear that she’s open to her status as a role model. “I definitely think about a million people when I’m getting dressed in the morning, and that’s just part of my life now,” Swift tells the news magazine. “I think it’s my responsibility to know it and to be conscious of it.” While other artists may have gotten into trouble over the years for drunk driving or the smoking of substances , Swift won’t ever use her age as an excuse for any behavior of this type. “It would be really easy to say ‘I’m 21 now, I do what I want. You raise your kids!'” Swift says. “But it’s not the truth of it. The truth of it is that every singer out there with songs on the radio is raising the next generation.” Have we mentioned recently how much we adore Taylor Swift? [Photo: WENN.com]

Dancing With the Stars Finals: Who’s the Favorite?

The last two weeks of Dancing With the Stars haven’t surprised us. Nancy Grace lasted longer than people expected, and Hope Solo couldn’t hang with the top three. Going into the finals, it really is anyone’s game. J.R. Martinez, Rob Kardashian and Ricki Lake all deserve to be there, and have decent shots at the Mirror Ball. Who’s technically the biggest favorite, though? According to Bodog, an online gambling site, J.R. Martinez has the best odds to win at 1 to 2. Ricki Lake holds 3 to 1 odds, while Rob has a 4 to 1 chance of winning. That’s right, even after an ankle injury left him in a distant third last week, the Iraq War vet, motivational speaker and actor is considered the top dog right now. Says a lot about his fan support, but Ricki and Rob are no slouches in that department, either. If they all perform well Monday, the results will be very interesting. Fan votes account for 50 percent of the aggregate score, with the judges’ scoring making up the rest. So if no one has a big lead, anyone could take this thing. The finals for DWTS on Monday include four dances from each finalist, so that can also change a lot. What do you think? Who’s your pick to win Season 13?

Dancing With the Stars Results: Who Made the Finals?

After perfect and near-perfect performances saw Ricki Lake take back the lead on Dancing With the Stars , the question was who would join her in the finals. With Ricki a virtual lock (her scores far outpaced two competitors, she’s solid every week, and she has Derek Hough as a partner), it came down to this trio. Surprisingly, Rob Kardashian was the one breathing down Ricki’s next Monday, with J.R. Martinez a distant third, followed by Hope Solo in last place. Was last night the end of the line for Rob, Hope, or J.R.? Hope has continued to improve, but would it be fast enough for fans given that Rob has also surged in popularity and skill, and J.R. remains one of the favorites? The program has seen many worthy dancers set home prematurely, even this season. You just never know. So which one of these contenders got the heave-ho? Follow the jump to see who survived the Dancing With the Stars semifinals … Hope Solo , despite a long and successful run, was eliminated last night. Very few who follow the show are likely to be surprised at that outcome. Interestingly, Hope was so torn up about her elimination that she was unable to even give interviews about departure, but we’ll miss her and wish her the best. Fond memories of Hope and Maks’ DWTS performances past . “I love them,” Ricki Lake said of Hope and her partner Maksim Chermovskiy. “They’re both great people. I think she did great. She came so far and I now like soccer. I never knew anything about it, but now I’m rooting for my goalie Hope Solo!” She’s certainly not alone in that department. “I never would have imagined this when I signed up for this, never in a million years,” Rob Kardashian admitted upon making the finals. “I really just gotta bring it more than ever and that mirror ball trophy is right at the end of my fingertips.” As for J.R.’s injury: “The ankle feels a lot better, does,” he said. “I got some time to rest. I got an X-ray done this morning. The doctor said it’s negative. Now, it’s about being strategic: making sure I take care of, wrap it properly and continue to dance!” Well? Who will win Dancing With the Stars?

Ricki Lake Tangos to Dancing With the Stars Top Spot

Performing last in each portion Monday night, Ricki and Derek did their best to quash the competition on Dancing With the Stars . Each time, they were successful. Their samba was fun and fabulous, with Bruno calling it “sizzling hot, bright and brilliant from beginning to end.” The others agreed. Three perfect 10s for 30. Then it was on to the Argentine tango, a smooth, graceful effort that seamlessly meshed footwork with emotion and landed them just a point shy of perfection. Are we looking at the next Mirror Ball holder? J.R. Martinez Dances Through Pain, Frustration

J.R. Martinez and Ricki Lake have been swapping the first place spot all season on Dancing With the Stars. Last night, it was definitely the latter’s turn on top. While he’s never one to complain (look at all he’s been through in life), J.R. rolled his right ankle in rehearsal and then twisted it again during his routines. The famous smile that lights up the dance floor was barely there Monday, replaced by grimaces of pain and looks of disappointment. His posture was off. J.R. and Karina Smirnoff did manage to turn in a sexy Argentine tango to make up for a subpar Paso Doble, but it’ll be up to fans to carry him through. Can J.R. earn a spot in next week’s DWTS finals after an off week that saw him finish a distant third? Watch his performances and see what you think … J.R. Ricki Lake on Dancing With the Stars: The Business of Being Awesome!

Each of the six contestants performed two routines on Dancing With the Stars Monday: One with their professional partners, and a team dance with two other couples. Despite a rib injury, Ricki Lake wowed with both renditions. She performed two paso dobles: One with partner Derek Hough and another with her team that included soccer champ Hope Solo and reality star Rob Kardashian . Judge Bruno Tonioli described the group routine as “powerful, moving, and dramatic” and called Lake’s dance with her partner “another incredible performance.” Watch her strut her way into first place right here: Ricki Lake on Dancing With the Stars (Week 7)
