George Romero Dies; Night Of the Living Dead Director Was 77

Sad news out of Hollywood today, as one of the most revered horror film directors of the modern era has passed away. It was reported this afternoon that George A. Romero, director of the Night Of the Living Dead series and creator of the zombie film genre, has died unexpectedly at the age of 77. Romero’s death was confirmed by his longtime manager, Chris Roe. “Legendary filmmaker George A. Romero passed away on Sunday July 16, listening to the score of ‘The Quiet Man,’ one of his all-time favorite films, with his wife, Suzanne Desrocher Romero, and daughter, Tina Romero at his side,” read a statement issued by Roe. “He died peacefully in his sleep, following a brief but aggressive battle with lung cancer, and leaves behind a loving family, many friends, and a filmmaking legacy that has endured, and will continue to endure, the test of time.” Romero rose to fame in the late ’60s, following the surprise success of his first film, Night Of the Living Dead . The movie spawned five sequels, including the most recent installment, 2009’s Suvival Of the Dead . Romero’s knack for blending scares and social commentary resulted in an entirely new subgenre and helped horror films to gain increased respect from both critics and mainstream audiences. As many are pointing out today, it’s impossible to overstate Romero’s impact on popular culture. He’s been cited as a major influence by such beloved genre auteurs as Stephen King and Joss Whedon, and though he publicly expressed his disdain for the series, there would be no Walking Dead franchise were it not for the aesthetic pioneered by Romero. In addition to his wildly popular zombie films, Romero has received acclaim for helming such horror films as Season Of the Witch , Martin , and The Crazies . Tributes to Romero from some of the biggest names in the industry have been pouring in on social media: “Sad to hear my favorite collaborator–and good old friend–George Romero has died. George, there will never be another like you,” Stephen King wrote. View Slideshow: Celebrities Who Died in 2017: In Memoriam “RIP George Romero. Zombies, yes. But…go watch MARTIN. Teenage isolation mutated into vampirism. Online culture as plague” tweeted Patton Oswalt. “Rest In Peace George Romero. A great artist, innovator and creator. He changed everything,” Anthony Bourdain commented. Romero is survived by his wife, Suzanne, and two children.

Cops Kill People: LAPD Guns Down A Teenager After He Allegedly Shot At Them

LAPD Killed 14-Year-Old Suspect After He Allegedly Shot At Them Another day, another cop catches a body. Via CNN Los Angeles police shot and killed a 14-year-old boy after he shot at the officers, police said Wednesday. The department’s gang unit was investigating a vandalism call in a neighborhood east of downtown around 5:35 p.m. Tuesday when they encountered two youths. One ran off and two officers pursued, police said. “According to a witness who saw the subject running from the officers, the witness saw the subject shoot a handgun in the direction of the pursuing officers,” said LAPD Deputy Chief Robert Arcos during a news conference. “While the loss of life is always tragic, it is particularly so when the loss involves a youth.” Oh, so the LAPD thinks killing people is tragic? Interesting… The teenager, identified as Jesse James Romero by the Los Angeles County Coroner, was pronounced dead at the scene. The other suspect did not flee police and he was questioned and released. Neither officer was harmed, but they heard a gunshot as they were rounding the corner, Arcos said. One of the officers then fired back and killed Romero, Arcos said. A loaded handgun was recovered by the teenager’s body but it was too soon for investigators to determine whether it had been fired or whether it had been used by Romero, Arcos said. OH! SO, they don’t know if he really shot at them or not. VERY interesting…SMH. Image via Shutterstock

That Donkey Donk: Florida “Animal Lover” Defends His Constitutional Right To Chop That A$$ Down

Do you remember this Florida crazy ? Via Huff Po reports : A Florida man accused of having sex with a miniature donkey named Doodle is protected by the United States Constitution, his lawyers say. In a motion obtained by Ocala.com and filed with Marion County court, Carlos Romero’s attorneys argue that the state’s anti-best***lity law deprives Romero of his “personal liberty and autonomy when it comes to private intimate activities.” Romero’s lawyers said the statute violate’s their client’s due process rights and the equal protection clause of the Fourteenth Amendment in the U.S. Constitution. The 32-year-old previously rejected a plea deal that would have required a year of probation, a $200 fine, a psychosexual evaluation and possible treatment, STD testing, no contact with children in a school setting, no ownership or possession of any mammals and revocation of his license to work in horse racing. The accusations stem from an August incident in which a witness reportedly saw Romero with his pants down “up against the rear of the donkey,” according to the Smoking Gun. Romero reportedly stepped away from the donkey and pulled up his pants when he saw the witness. But, when Marion County detectives questioned him about the incident, he allegedly admitted that, when the donkey is in heat, he will stand behind her, scratch her withers and pleasure himself. He says he “likes the way her fur feels on his privates,” according to WSTP-TV. GeekoSystem writes that Romero’s lawyers deserve credit for fighting for their client. All joking aside, no one can accuse Romero’s trio of public defenders — Joshua Wyatt, Scott Schmidt and Joshua Lukman – of not doing absolutely everything in their power to win the day in court for the so-far less than entirely cooperative Mr. Romero. These three guys are going to have their names attached forever to a legal document stating that sex with animals shouldn’t be against the law because they believe their client deserves the best representation they can offer. Romero has testified that he wants his case to go to trial. If he’s convicted of sex with an animal, Romero could face a year in county jail. SMH. There is no way in hell that the Constitution should allow for this nonsense. What about the Constitutional rights of poor Doodle? Maybe she doesn’t want her burro backs blown out. Then again, wouldn’t she buck him if she didn’t like it? Ewwwwwwww
