‘Inception’ Star Leonardo DiCaprio Reflects On His Year Of Trippy Movies

He says his new film and ‘Shutter Island’ had ‘some similarities in tone, but they couldn’t have been executed any different.’ By Eric Ditzian, with reporting by Josh Horowitz Leonardo DiCaprio Photo: MTV News 2010 is apparently the year Leonardo DiCaprio screws with your head. First he gave us the nightmarish dreamscape of Martin Scorsese’s “Shutter Island,” a film about the tenuous nature between delusion and reality. Now comes “Inception,” the Christopher Nolan-directed thriller in which DiCaprio plays a dream thief who’s constantly spinning a metallic top because it’s the only way he can tell if he’s in the real world rather than a make-believe one. “I’ve been having a lot of fun playing protagonists that you can’t trust,” he told MTV News. “That’s been the objective in both these films, is to say lines and not necessarily mean what I say. It’s been a lot of fun, and I’ve got to do it with some pretty talented filmmakers, certainly with Scorsese and now with Chris Nolan.” Yet for all their thematic similarities, these are two vastly different films. Starring DiCaprio as a detective investigating a disappearance at an insane asylum, “Shutter Island” unfolds like a psychedelic onion, one layer after another peeling away to reveal new understandings of the story — right up until a climax that forces you to recalibrate everything you’ve accepted since the opening scene. “Inception,” conversely, lays out all its storytelling cards from the start, and it’s up to you to sort through them in an attempt to deduce just what in the heck is truly going on. Is that vague? Good. It’s best to know as little as possible before buying your “Inception” ticket when the film opens Friday. Suffice to say, though, the two films remain connected at least on the surface. “They had some similarities in tone, but they couldn’t have been executed any different,” DiCaprio told us. “This film is just beyond anything I’ve ever seen or experienced in my life. “It’s a very rare occurrence where you can do a movie that exists on four different planes simultaneously,” he added. “That was the immediate intrigue: delving into the world of the subconscious with Chris Nolan. What could be more fun?” Check out everything we’ve got on “Inception.” For breaking news, celebrity columns, humor and more — updated around the clock — visit MTVMoviesBlog.com . Terrell Owens, Chad Ochocinco And Jadakiss Hit The Court, Talk Music

‘Everybody’s hot right now,’ T.O. tells Mixtape Daily about his favorite music. By Shaheem Reid Jadakiss Photo: Shareif Ziyadat/Getty Images Celebrity Favorites: Terrell Owens, Chad Ochocinco and Jadakiss Harlem’s Rucker Park is a necessary destination for hip-hop and basketball royalty. Top NBA stars — from Kobe Bryant to Allen Iverson — have all come uptown to 155th Street to hoop it up over the years at the Entertainers Basketball Classic, while top-tier performers such as Jay-Z, Fat Joe and the Ruff Ryders have all had basketball teams rep them. A couple of days ago, it was the NFL’s chance to show love. Friends, VH1 reality stars and Pro Bowl athletes Terrell Owens and Chad Ochocinco came out. “The first time, I didn’t really know what to expect,” said T.O., who was suiting up to play. “It’s been some years. I had always heard about Rucker Park and all the And 1 guys that have come through here. A lot of legends have been out here and played on this court, from Kobe, J.R. Smith, all those guys. I’m no different. I’m just out here trying to fit in. I play all the time. I been working out and training out in L.A. A number of NBA guys train out there.” Ochocinco coached the team opposing T.O. The man formerly known as Chad Johnson said he couldn’t play because training camp is next week. “This is how I grew up, in the ‘hood.” the Cincinnati Bengals star said. “It’s always a good chance to give back. This is the first time I’ve had to be graced with the presence of the famous Rucker Park. It’s a pleasure for me to be here. A lot of great ones came through here. I don’t play no basketball, but it’s a pleasure to be here.” Jadakiss played for Ochocinco’s team. “I might suit up,” Jada said with a smile. “It’s good for the people. They wanna see your boy. I might go out there and run a little bit. Plus, I got my tournament next week up in Yonkers. I usually don’t bring the bigwigs to the playoff time. I’m pretty sure to have Brandon Jennings, Tyreke Evans. Hopefully John Wall, [DeMarcus] Cousins. All of the phenoms. It’s good for the kids, just to bring them out. It’s good for the community.” Ochocinco lists Jada as one of his favorite MCs right now. “Right now I’m on that Albert Anastasia, I’m on my dawg Ricky Ross real hard right now,” Ocho said. “I tweeted Jadakiss a couple of days go, showing him the love for everything he got going on. I listen to everybody, especially what’s coming out of New York. I really listen to what everybody has to say. I like lyrical content. I support everybody. I don’t care who you are. If you come out, I’mma get you.” T.O., who also DJs in his spare time, has a listening taste that varies as well. “I’m flexible. Everybody’s hot right now,” Owens said. “Got my man Jada, Young Jeezy, Drake, Weezy. I mean, dude, it’s so much music out. Keri Hilson. Everybody’s got some hot stuff out right now.” For other artists featured in Mixtape Daily, check out Mixtape Daily Headlines or follow the Mixtape Daily team on Twitter: @shaheemreid and @mongosladenyc .

T.I. Premieres Second Single From King Uncaged

‘Prison ain’t change me, it made me worse,’ an aggressive T.I. raps on ‘Yeah Ya Know (Takers).’ By Jayson Rodriguez T.I. in NYC on April 20, 2010 Photo: Shareif Ziyadat/ FilmMagic T.I. debuted the second song from his upcoming King Uncaged album on Monday evening (May 24), via his personal website, TrapMuzik.com . Produced by longtime collaborator DJ Toomp, “Yeah Ya Know (Takers)” appears to double as a number from the forthcoming film “Takers,” in which T.I. stars alongside Chris Brown and Matt Dillon. A representative from the rapper’s label, Atlantic, was unable to confirm this as of press time. A more aggressive T.I. can be heard on “Yeah Ya Know (Takers)” — a harder posture than the one he takes on his previous King Uncaged effort, “I’m Back,” which marked the Atlanta MC’s first output since his federal imprisonment ended earlier this year. T.I. shouts during the song’s spoken outro, “Prison ain’t change me, it made me worse. Right, ‘Pac? If I want it, I’ma come get it. I ain’t asking for it — I’mma take it. We takers.” On the chorus, he references his drug-dealing past and the transition to becoming a superstar lyricist. “I went from rolling with the rocks on the block,” T.I. raps. “To controlling my position at the top of every chart, and I will not stop/ Then we ride, then we roll, then you stop, and we go, yeah ya know.” The charismatic MC has kept a low profile since he finished serving out his post-jail sentence in a halfway house. He released “I’m Back” and later appeared with CNN’s Larry King for his first interview, telling the legendary host “depression and paranoia” led to his arrest. “It came from an attempt that was made on my life,” Tip explained. “My best friend [Philant Johnson] had died in my arms. It caused a state of depression and paranoia. My judgment was jaded, and I felt my life was in danger. … At the time, when I felt the need to have these [weapons], I never took into consideration the legalities; I only took into consideration the protection of my life and family.” On Monday, T.I. is also slated to post an interview on his website that was conducted by Jamie Foxx. His album is due August 17. Are you excited to hear new T.I. music? Let us know in the comments! Related Artists T.I.

Lady Gaga Poses Topless In Q Magazine

‘I consider myself quite the lady,’ Lady Gaga says in interview with magazine. By Jocelyn Vena Lady Gaga on the cover of Q magazine Photo: Q/ Q4music.com Lady Gaga’s appearance on the cover of England’s Q magazine is causing quite a stir: In the photo, she is seen topless, covering her chest with nothing more than her gloved hands or mesh wiring, and in some shots sporting a bulge in her black pants that is presumably a strap-on. In the issue, which hit newsstands on Tuesday (February 23), Gaga talks all about arguably the most infamous rumor of the many that have followed her around: that she is a hermaphrodite . “We all know that one of the biggest talking points of the year was that I have a d—, so why not give them what they want?” she told the magazine . Although she may come off as an unconventional person, Gaga admits she actually is quite old-fashioned in many respects. “Well, I believe in certain institutions: cooking, serving dinner, taking care of my family,” she said in the magazine. “So I consider myself quite the lady.” In the interview, Gaga also shares how her strong-willed attitude and decision to not have a conventional pop star image have, at times, been an issue for her. “The last thing a young woman needs is another picture of a sexy pop star writhing in sand, covered in grease, touching herself. My image was an issue at my record label. I fought for months and cried at meetings,” she said. “I got criticized for being arrogant because if you’re sure of yourself as a woman they say you’re a bitch whereas if you’re a man and you’re strong-willed it’s normal.” Lady Gaga is on tour in England through next month.
