Scandal has solidified itself as one of the most shocking dramas on the air since it premiered in April of 2012. There is no subject matter this iconic series will stray away from, and that's what makes it so fresh and exciting. But what about when the cameras are NOT rolling? Based on an article in The Hollywood Reporter in celebration of the series airing its 100th episode, it turns out that just as many stunners have existed on the set as on the script pages. To wit… 1. The Original Olivia Pope? ABC originally wanted Connie Britton to be Olivia Pope, but the casting director and Shonda Rhimes were defiant that Olivia Pope was black. Could you imagine just how different the show could have been today? Kerry Washington emerged as the first black woman to topline a drama in 37 years. No, that was not a typo. 2. Shonda Was Against Making Another Show Shonda Rhimes was a very busy woman. She had Grey’s Anatomy and Private Practice on the air, and she initially thought it would be too much to have another show on the air. After sitting down with real-life crisis manager, Judy Smith, Shonda changed her tune, and the idea grew into Scandal from there. 3. Platonic Olitz? In the original pitch there was no mention of Olivia bedding the Fitz. Paul Lee (Former Head of ABC) called Shonda to see if the relationship could be taken out, but Shonda said the show should not be made without that plot. Behold, the power of Shonda Rhimes. 4. An Internation Flop? There were even some complaints that a black lead could hinder the show’s chances internationally. It’s great Shonda and company proved the naysayers wrong. 5. No One Wanted To Be President During pilot season, most actors were spoken for and a lot of them were too expensive for the show. Tony Goldwyn was signed to a Fox pilot and Shonda called him as soon as he was dropped from the project, poaching him for some scandalous scenes with Kerry Washington. 6. Stephen, Is That You? Scott Foley was a favorite of Shonda’s while he was on Grey’s Anatomy. She killed his character off after telling him she wrote the role of Stephen for him. However, the network rejected him and went with Henry Ian Cusack, who got the role because of his international appeal. Foley moved on to Fox comedy, The Goodwin Games and Shonda poached him to play Jake the day it was canceled. Things are certainly fast-paced in Hollywood. View Slideshow

Kerry Washington Covers Marie Claire Magazine Scandal star Kerry Washington is front-and-center on the latest issue of Marie Claire. In her interview she speaks about her respect for Shonda Rhimes, how she didn’t grow up thinking she was pretty, and how she protects her private life. Take a look below. Kerry Washington on privacy: “Earlier in my career I was much more super-sharey. There were moments when I wanted to process things that were happening to me more privately, and I didn’t have the space to do it, because once you let people in, they’re in and you don’t get to say, ‘Oh, I want this for myself.’” On collaborating with Scandal creator Shonda Rhimes: “I’m very respectful of Shonda’s vision of who Olivia [Pope] is, but she has said that she is informed by the choices I make. If we were waltzing, she’s definitely leading. And she picked the song, and she probably dressed us, but it is a waltz.” On growing up: “I didn’t grow up thinking I was pretty; there was always a prettier girl than me. The Duggar family, as you obviously know if you watch 19 Kids and Counting online or read any celebrity news for fun lately, are a conservative bunch. In fact, Josh Duggar, the eldest of the 19 Kids and Counting, moved from Arkansas to Washington, D.C., to take a job lobbying for conservative causes. To that end, here’s Josh with wife Anna Duggar, looking to rally support ahead of Tuesday’s crucial Election Day, by appealing to the pro-life community: They make no secret of their political and religious views in the Duggar family, but often times, the manner in which they do so tends to spark controversy. Such as when Jessa Duggar compared abortion to the Holocaust … or when her fiance Ben Seewald’s father subsequently likened Jessa’s critics to Hitler . Or now, to a degree, with Anna Duggar’s Twitter account. Anna is embarking on a Faith, Family, Freedom Tour with her husband, “to encourage voters to consider faith, family and freedom when casting their ballot on November 4th.” Naturally, she’s exposing her followers to a whole lot of pro-life discussion in the process, especially after she re-tweeted a pointed political message: “The Ultimate Act of Voter Suppression is Killing Voters Before They’re Born.” This refers likely to the Democratic party criticism of Republican-supported voter ID laws, which advocates say reduces fraud, but critics argue is suppression. Either way, November 4 is going to be a big day in the Duggar household, win or lose, with control of the U.S. Senate and many local and state races at stake. SO Many Duggars 1. So Kate Hudson states in an Instagram photo snapped at her Halloween party last night, one that features the actress clad in leather for a Sons of Anarchy-themed shindig. “Mother of Anarchy is taking her daughters to a little party… #HappyHalloween @hudsonjeans_pk #hudsons #partytime,” Hudson typed as a caption to the image. Along with a custom leather crop top (with a studded halter neckline), Hudson is donning tiny leather and leather thigh-high boots.
