Barack Obama Lands Spot On Billboard’s Hot R&B Songs Chart

F ormer President Barack Obama has always been big on music. Throughout his presidency, he’s shared with us the songs that he keeps in heavy rotation. Let us not forget that time he made an appearance at the Apollo Theater and sang some of Al Green ’s song “Let’s Stay Together.” Obama has now taken his love for music to new heights. According to USA Today , his recent collaboration with Hamilton star Lin-Manuel Miranda has landed him a spot on Billboard’s Hot R&B Songs chart. Barack Obama has made his debut at No. 22 on Billboard's Hot R&B Songs chart https://t.co/NrYGOWq1rR — USA TODAY Life (@usatodaylife) January 4, 2019 The song, dubbed “One Last Time (44 Remix),” debuted at No. 22 on the chart. The track features Obama, singer BeBe Winans , and Hamilton actor Christopher Jackson . On the song—which is about former President George Washington leaving his presidential seat—Obama recites Washington’s farewell address. “I anticipate with pleasing expectation that retreat in which I promise myself to realize, without alloy, the sweet enjoyment of partaking, in the midst of my fellow-citizens, the benign influence of good laws under a free government, the ever-favorite object of my heart, and the happy reward, as I trust, of our mutual cares, labors, and dangers,” says Obama. The song is a part of Miranda’s project Hamildrops which puts a spin on different songs from the musical. He launched the project last year and some of the proceeds are given to different nonprofit organizations. Obama has been a long-time supporter of the Hamilton movement. He took his family to see the show on Broadway and in 2016 the cast performed at the White House. His Billboard accomplishment comes just weeks after he shared his favorite songs of 2018 list which included music from The Carters , Leon Bridges , J. Cole , Cardi B , Janelle Monae , and others. Smooth Presidential Jams: Barack Obama Debuts On Billboard’s Hot R&B Songs Chart

Source: Kevin Mazur / Getty President Obama Just Landed A Spot On The Billboard Charts Barack Obama has just scored a spot on the Billboard Hot R&B Songs chart. Y’all’s lil president could never. The Hawaii native debuted on this week’s list for his contribution to the new gospel-inspired arrangement of Lin-Manuel Miranda’s Hamilton hit “One Last Time (44 Remix),” according to Billboard . Obama’s contribution to the song (unfortunately) doesn’t include any singing, but he delivers his rendition of George Washington’s farewell address on the track–which also features original Hamilton cast member Christopher Jackson and gospel star BeBe Winans. The song is a variation on the original song from Hamilton and debuted at No. 22, one slot above the John Legend’s holiday hit, “Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas.” Lin-Manuel Miranda released the track on December 20 as his last “Hamildrop” of the 2018, and of course, its title is an obvious nod to Obama being the 44th U.S. president. President Obama’s history with Miranda dates back to 2009, when the he held “An Evening of Poetry, Music & Spoken Word” at the White House. Miranda rapped a song from what he was calling his “Hamilton Mixtape,” and the performance garnered tens of thousands of views online. That event is what helped inspire the full-blown 2016 musical that went on to win the New Yorker’s musical 11 Tony awards, as well as the 2016 Grammy for best musical theater album and the 2016 Pulitzer Prize for drama. The entire cast visited the White House in 2016 and Miranda once again returned in 2017 to perform “One Last Time” as a tribute to Obama at the end of his second term.

Some internet thugs decided to hack the world, releasing whole new albums from Beyonce, SZA and Solange on Spotify and Apple Music. It all started with a few people tweeting out that if they searched “Queen Carter” they’d find new music. Then it caught on like wildfire. So what are the songs actually? They’re old, mostly unreleased Beyonce tracks from the early 2000s that we bet Bey even forgot exists. Still, some are just happy to hear new Bey. Kanye West Calls Out Ariana Grande, Accuses Singer of Exploiting His Mental Illness

Kanye West has turned his attention from Drake to Ariana Grande. And now we have a feud on our hands between two of the biggest solo artists on the planet. It all started on Thursday night when Kanye went after Drake on Twitter , accusing his fellow artist of threatening members of his family. This renewed rivalry got off to a strange start, after West revealed that Drake had asked for clearance to sample one of his tracks. Kanye used this request as an opening to simply attack Drake close to 80 times on social media, writing at one point that Drake needs to stay away from Kris Jenner: “Been trying to meet with you for 6 months bro. You sneak dissing on trav records and texting Kris talking bout how’s the family.” It was an especially chaotic few hours on Twitter, even for Kanye West. Drake didn’t really response to any Kanye’s taunts of insults… … but Grande actually did. You see, Ariana and Miley Cyrus both released new tracks on Thursday and Grande joked that West and Drake’s beef was taking away attention from these single drops. In a practically perfect Tweet, the singer wrote: “Guys, i know there are grown men arguing online rn but miley and i dropping our beautiful, new songs tonight so if y’all could please jus behave for just like a few hours so the girls can shine that’d be so sick thank u.” Hilarious, right? Not exactly, Kanye now argues. The 41-year old rapper took exception to Grande butting into his business in this manner, accusing the superstar of exploiting both his fame and even his mental illness in order to promote her music. “I know Ariana said this to be cool and didn’t mean no harm but I don’t like even slightest level of slight commentary from someone I know loves and respects me,” he Tweeted, adding: “All of this foolishness weighed on my mental health so @ArianaGrande you know I got love for you but until you’re ready to really make sure everyone’s ok don’t use me or this moment to promote a song.” West has claimed in the past that he’s bipolar . In response to Kanye’s remarks, Ariana didn’t entirely back down. She stood up for herself and her career, but also issued a mea culpa. “with all due respect, i don’t need to use anyone to promote anything. period. i was making a comment ab what men were doing at the time vs. women,” she wrote, concluding: “it was a joke which i understand now was probably insensitive. i apologize if i was in any way triggering and hope u feel well today.” Again: Ariana handled this perfectly. It’s very clear at this point of her career that she doesn’t need to rely on anyone else to push her songs, yet she was a big enough person to recognize the sensitivity of mental illness and to acknowledge how perhaps she should have thought of that before Tweeting. Grande is very good at social media. Kanye is very bad. Perhaps he should take another break from the medium.

The Rewind: Mr. And Mrs. Smith Serve Up Hot Tea On Their Marriage

Source: Global Grind / Giphy Another episode of  The Rewind  is here and we are more than happy to give you your much-needed dose of recap reality. Every week we revisit some of the pop culture trends, movies, viral moments and music from the week before and give our hot takes. Our experts Landon Lavarius and DJ Franchise share their opinions, sprinkle in some facts and then when it’s all over and done with, provide a rating of 1 to 10. We listen to the songs, watch the movies, scour the internet, and do the hard work so you don’t have to. Without further adieu, let’s jump into this week’s episode. Today, we’re going to discuss Jada Pinkett-Smith’s web television talk show, Red Table Talk . The series, which broadcasts on Facebook Watch weekly, debuted on May 7, 2018. It stars Jada Pinkett-Smith, her mother Adrienne Banfield Norris, her daughter Willow Smith and often an additional special guest per episode. The show was created after a video of Jada Pinkett-Smith, her mother and Willow shared discussing issues each generation experienced regarding motherhood. The initial video went viral and since the inception of Red Table Talk , they’ve been nominated for a Streamy Award and a People’s Choice Award. The series has featured a number of special guests including Gabrielle Union, Toni Braxton, Tiffany Haddish, and Will Smith’s ex-wife Sheree Fletcher.  On June 13, 2018, it was announced that Facebook Watch had ordered an additional 13 episodes of Red Table Talk. The show has managed to become a viral sensation.  Landon Levarius and DJ Franchise also break down Trey Songz’s latest track, Jill (Sumn Real) on this week’s episode of The Rewind. Trey Songz dedicated the new song, which he released back in November, to Jill Scott’s now viral simulated microphone fellatio video. Despite the fact that the video is old and Jill Scott isn’t too thrilled about all of the new and unwanted attention it’s been getting it, she did compliment Trey on the song and said that she actually liked it. With everyone talking about who they think the king of R&B is and Trey Songz’s name definitely being in the running for some people, it’s nice to see the singer drop something brand new for the fans. Do you think DJ Franchise and Landon Levarius feel the same way? We find out on the latest episode of Global Grind’s The Rewind. Watch the full episode above and let us know your thoughts.

Queen P Makes Moves: The Beat Ya Feet Dancer Talks Keeping D.C. Go-Go Music Alive & Representing For Women In Dance

Source: Lincoln Landers / Lincoln Landers Go-go music is so prominent in Washington D.C. and its surrounding areas that it’s almost a part of the air. Whether booming out of car speakers or playing at family events, the percussive sound finds its way into the atmosphere, whether you’re an active listener or not. Go-go has roots in 1970s funk with iconic performers like  Chuck Brown  (considered “The Godfather of go-go”). However, as years went by, the genre started to evolve, the pace quickened, and soon, a new dance style emerged. “Beat ya feet” is a style that involves fluid footwork and energetic moves, and dancer  Porche  “ Queen P” Anthony   knows all about it.   Queen P started beating her feet in 1999, only one year after the style was created by  Marvin “Slush” Gross  in D.C.’s Barry Farm neighborhood. Since then, Queen P has delivered her moves in school hallways, neighborhood churches, and go-go venues throughout the D.C. and Maryland area. Go-go acts like  Backyard Band (BYB) ,  Critical Condition Band (CCB)  and  Raw Image  served as her soundtrack. “Raw Image came out with some serious heat,” Queen P said in a talk with  Global Grind . “When they had the song  ‘Shake It Out, ‘ it’s something about that record…I used to be in the house drilling myself with that.” Queen P hit the national stage in 2009 when she and her crew, the Beat Ya Feet Kings, made it to MTV’s  America’s Best Dance Crew . After a solid run on the show, Queen P continued to build beat ya feet culture by teaching the dance across the country. However, back home, the momentum started to die. Even though beat ya feet kept an underground following, the popularity for the dance started to dip. “Beat ya feet is like a cat,” Queen P said. “We keep getting these lives. It’ll die and then it’ll be alive again, and we’re running out of lives. I told dancers if we don’t capitalize on it this year, that’s it.” Now, at 32 years old, Queen P continues to spread the beat ya feet dance with workshops, videos, and merchandise. She even had a notable cameo in  Ciara ‘s music video for  “Dose.”   Check out our quick conversation with Queen P below where she describes working with Ciara, go-go culture, and being one of the few women in beat ya feet dance. So you told me you trained in different styles like modern dance, jazz, and hip hop. Then, you started beating your feet in middle school. Was there anything else that contributed to your style today? From ten years old and on is when I really started educating myself on entertainment and performance quality from watching music videos. So The Box (T.V. channel),  Video Soul , BET’s  Cita’s World.  When I would come back from school and do all my homework, I would just turn it on and get right to it. So like watching  Ginuwine ,  Usher , and I’m a huge supporter of  Missy Elliott. But I’ve always been more of a fan or supporter of the creatives behind the artist, so like the choreographers and the creative directors. I understood that the artist isn’t solely responsible for their songs. How did the Ciara music video come about?  My dance mentor is  Jamaica Craft  and she is Ciara’s creative director. She had been waiting on the right project to utilize my talent and it just so happened to be “Dose.” I honestly was shocked because my name was in the video and that never happens for a dancer…to get that type of shout out.   You’re representing for the ladies in beat ya feet. Do you feel like you have a specific experience being a woman in the culture? There was a point where I felt disrespected in the community of BYF. I’m a woman in a male-dominated movement and it’s not easy at all, especially when you’re just a natural-born leader. I got a lot of pushback within the team I danced for and from others around 2009, especially when myself and the kings were on  America’s Best Dance Crew. What’s the climate for women in the culture now? There were a lot of girls involved back in the late ’90s, but I believe at some point for girls, it wasn’t as popular. Right now, there are females who do the style, but they don’t want to identify with women. I grew up watching artists and dancers back in the day who wore loose fitting clothes and hats — tomboy swag I guess you can say — but they embraced their femininity. I am one in the same. There’s young ladies who I’ve trained in the style, but they just haven’t embraced it as much as I have over the years.   What’s your vision for beat ya feet in the future?  My desire is that it becomes as global and respected as the  Krump movement , and the rawness of the style doesn’t get tampered with or watered down. What about go-go culture as a whole?  Well if we continue to get support from the go-go community, they will see how important we are to keeping them in the ears of listeners as well. The dance movement is able to bridge the gap. Dancers are the new DJs. We break music as well. If we don’t move as a unit, I believe the dance will spread and get bigger, and in essence, leave the music behind. The more people we get familiarized with the go-go sound as dancers, then we’ll have the undivided attention of people in other areas, and they’ll take on a love for not just the dance, but the music as well.

Olivia Culpo See Through Dress of the Day

Olivia Culpo’s at the CMAs…because she knows that she’s got NO business being at the CMAs, but that people are probably watching the CMAs, and with them watching the CMAs they’ll see her name, notice her, and maybe follow her on social media or elevate her as a brand name in influencing fashion, and it helps that she’s wearing a see through dress, looking slutty as fuck, really just trying to make some noise while dialing right into America.. Years ago, I know a girl who wanted to be a popstar, and I told her a very important fact that I guess Taylor Swift followed the lead on, because Taylor and I have a pyschic connection in case you didn’t know…and that is that Country music fans are fucking simple, loyal, and as long as you’re white, lifetime fans. That’s not to say country is racist, or hick, or that these people are the only people still buying CDs, it’s just to say like their love for America, they love the people who sing them their songs, whether on the ranch, farm, or trailer park trailer home…. They still buy LeAnn Rimes music. They still support her after all she’s done…they are good people, simple people, American people…God loving and fearing people…and they represent 50 percent of the population. Get in with them, like you were TRUMP and you’ve got a career.. So CMAs are probably the most watched Award shows, not cuz Country fans don’t have internet, I see them all on Facebook leaving comments on shit, but they are so into their music, culture and scene…that they watch…and CULPO gets seen. It’s not brilliant necessarily, but for a talentless Football player fucking instagram whore…it’s clever… The see Through Dress helps make the most of it…but just being there makes me understand she’s serious about being seen. A Faux Bop: Best T.V. Show Songs That Aren’t Actually Real Releases

Follow this link:

Source: Malcolm Ali / Getty T.V. shows can birth some of the best music and if you’re an avid watcher, some of the tunes can get stuck in your head for years to come. I’m not just talking about catchy theme songs or closing credit music. I’m talking about the countless songs that characters sang within their T.V. world that weren’t real, but they were ridiculously catchy. It could’ve been a song from a music group within the show or a parody that ended up making you jam just as hard as real-life songs. Hit the next pages to find out which tracks had repeat-potential when hearing them for the first time. As a rubric, I decided to leave out songs that were released as singles outside of the show and songs that gained heavy promotion in the music market (sorry Empire soundtrack). But don’t worry, the songs that follow are sure to bring the nostalgia and hopefully, they’ll make it on a streaming site in the near future!
