Jordin Sparks is featured in the new Americana issue of V Magazine on newsstands Thursday. Inside the magazine the beauty talks about her relationship with Whitney Houston, which was fostered on the set of their new movie “Sparkle”. Peep an excerpt below: Part musical, part cautionary tale, the movie tells the story of three sisters, Sparkle, Delores (Tika Sumpter) and Sister (Carmen Ejogo), whose successful Motown singing act disintegrates in the face of drug addiction and familial strife. Originally Houston had signed on solely as exectutive producer, but eventually agreed to also play the girls’ mother, Emma. “I think she was hesitant at first, and then she said, ‘Yeah, I really want to do that,” says Sparks. On set in Detroit at the first table read, Sparks, who has d worshiped the pop star since childhood, was appropriately tongue-tied. “She walked in and I was like, ‘This. Is. Awesome.’” But over time the two women grew close, bonding over a slavish devotion to the craft-services table and a near constant habit of singing under their breath. “One day, actually, she was walking behind me and singing ‘I Have Nothing,’” recalls Sparks. “And then she reached out and said, ‘I forgot I sang that. I was annoyed that day and just didn’t ant to do it. We ended up doing it in three takes!’” When Houston died unexpectedly in February, Sparks (who attended her memorial service) was grief-stricken. “She was always so full of light,” she says, choking back tears . “Every day… she would open the door and ask, ‘How are my babies this morning? Are my babies good? God is good. Praise the Lord.’” Still Sparks has no illusions about the demons that plagued her late costar (and, ironically, some of the films characters). “I can see how people can fall and people can flip or they can just get in with the wrong crowd.” Gotta love Jordin Sparks. We are really looking forward to “Sparkle” but we have to side-eye the writer for saying Whitney and Jordin had a “near slavish devotion” to craft services. Big SMH. Photo Credit: Mark Abrahams
Rachel Ehmke, a Minnesota seventh grader, reportedly took her own life as a result of three months of cruel bullying at the hands of her classmates. Just 13, she was found hanged in her home on April 29 after suffering repeated abuse such as threats, being called a “slut,” “prostitute,” and worse. A text message allegedly circulated through the student body three days before her death, encouraging others to pick on her so she’d quit school. Rachel Ehmke Suicide Case Sparks Investigation The text, described by a parent as “pretty explicit,” came from a student at a different school, officials said. Regardless, it was too much for Ehmke. Her parents, Rick and Mary Ehmke, said Rachel – who pleaded with them not to report the bullying, so as not to inflame it – left a note that read: “I’m fine = I wish I could tell you how I really feel.” Somewhat surprisingly, Rick said he’s not going to pursue legal ramifications against those whose actions pushed his daughter over the edge. “They’re kids who made horrible decisions. If [they] would’ve known this would happen I’m pretty sure they never, ever would have done what they did,” her dad said. “Sadly enough, even those kids that know who they are will carry this baggage their whole life. That’s a sad thing too, it really is.”
‘American Idol’ alum talks to Entertainment Weekly about working with the late legend on their upcoming movie ‘Sparkle.’ By Kara Warner Whitney Houston Photo: 20th Century Fox/Getty Images Many people will remember exactly where they were and what they were doing when they heard the news of Whitney Houston’s untimely death in February. And while everyone’s experience was memorable in some way, the story of Houston’s “Sparkle” co-star Jordin Sparks hearing the news is especially poignant. The season-six “American Idol” winner was in a L.A. hotel room getting ready to meet Houston at the Beverly Hilton and attend Clive Davis’ annual pre-Grammy bash when her publicist knocked on her door. “She said, ‘Whitney’s gone,’ ” Sparks told Entertainment Weekly. “I said, ‘What do you mean? She’s not going to the party?’ She said, ‘No, she passed.’ It was like a movie when you see somebody and they’re just shocked and can’t move. I literally couldn’t say anything. I couldn’t feel anything. It was a complete shock. I was just holed up in my hotel room for a few days after that. “I didn’t know her for very long, but it was an intense two months: 12 hours every day spending time with somebody,” Sparks recalled. “It was amazing to walk into work and then Whitney is sitting in her chair blasting gospel music and singing. I’m thinking to myself, ‘People would give their right arm to just hear some of this. And it’s happening every day.’ She was really, really great.” “Sparkle” is a remake of the 1976 Irene Cara film about three talented young musicians who struggle with addiction. The new version features the 2007 “American Idol” winner as the titular character Sparkle and Houston, who also served as executive producer after acquiring the rights to the film more than a decade ago, as her mother, Emma. “It was definitely her baby,” Sparks said of Houston’s attachment to the project. “You could see the pride on her face when we wrapped. She was so excited that this was finally happening. Even before she passed I wanted to be able to represent this movie in a way that would honor her and respect her, because she worked so hard on it. With her passing, it’s definitely been a lot more pressure. We’ll see how it goes. I’m sure there will be interviews where it will hit me and I might get emotional, and there’s going to be other interviews where I reminisce about how happy and excited she was. I’m really proud of the film. I can’t wait for people to see it.” “Sparkle” is scheduled to be released by Sony on August 17. A bunch of uptight, bible-belt-y moms have decided to wage war against the good folks at ABC for allowing Chaz Bono to appear on “Dancing With The Stars” with a female partner. These mothers and general LGBT haters feel like watching Chaz on DWTS would be traumatizing to children. They also feel like this is just another attempt to the LGBT lifestyle onto people who think its wrong. But our question is: how would your child know that Chaz Bono wasn’t born a man unless you told him or her? And for the kids who are big enough to know, don’t they kind of already know what’s up?
B-b-but wait it gets worse!! According to TMZ reports : Former “America’s Best Dance Crew” judge Shane Sparks allegedly sexually abused at least 6 young girls IN ADDITION to the woman who claims Sparks raped her when she was 12 years old … this according to court documents obtained by TMZ. The documents were just made public … following a plea deal Sparks made with the L.A. County District Attorney in which he received 270 days in jail after pleading no contest to having unlawful sex with a minor under 16. The allegations in the documents are extremely disturbing — with the victim telling police Sparks forced her to have sex with him after driving her home from a dance class he had taught in 1994 when she was only 12 years old. According to the docs, the victim claims Sparks took her to HIS home where he started to “make out” with her … and then he “rolled on top of her and pinned her beneath him.” The docs explain, “The victim told him she was a virgin and not ready for intercourse” but Sparks “ignored her pleas and penetrated her vagina for several minutes. He then drove her home.” According to the docs, investigators found “at least six other victims, whom between the ages of 12-17, were also abused by [Sparks].” No further details about the other alleged victims are included in the docs. Sparks is expected to begin his sentence sometime in the next year. Boy, oh boy, the things they are gonna do to YOU in the whoscow…SMH. Good riddance.
Well dayum! Looks like all Lauryn needed to get back to herself was to ween herself off that Marley. Ms. Hill showed up at the L.A. Rising Festival for her first post Non-Marley baby performance yesterday and looked almost like the pre-mommy-dom banger we all remember. Even with the wind blowing her fresh-pressed hair all over the place, she still kept it together. We’re impressed! Flip through and check Ms. Hill out!
