Steven Spielberg ‘Never’ Thinks About Retiring

‘Adventures of Tintin’ and ‘War Horse’ director tells MTV News, ‘I don’t feel any different than when I was 12 years old making movies.’ By Kara Warner, with reporting by Josh Horowitz Steven Spielberg Photo: MTV News In looking at Oscar-winner Steven Spielberg’s resume or IMDb page, it’s the stuff of two or three careers, not just one. Who knows when the man sleeps, as he has not one but two highly anticipated, expected-to-be-blockbuster films in theaters this holiday season: “The Adventures of Tintin” and “War Horse.” Not that we anticipate he’ll slow down anytime soon, with “Lincoln” and “Robopocalypse” set to hit theaters in 2012 and 2013, respectively — not to mention the slew of films on which he serves as a producer, plus the constant rumblings about the possibility of more “Indiana Jones” and “Jurassic Park” movies. When MTV News sat down with the prolific director recently during the press day for “Tintin,” we asked his thoughts about slowing down. “I never think about being tapped out or retiring. Even though I’m turning 65 in a matter of a week, I never think about that; it just doesn’t occur to me,” he replied. “I just love so much the work and the discovery: the whole process of discovering a new story, a new way to shoot a film, working with new actors I’ve always wanted to work with and never got a chance to until now. And so, for me, every day is a new day, every day is exciting. “And I don’t feel any different than when I was 12 years old making movies with my dad’s 8-millimeter movie camera: I’ve got that same kind of percolation every time I get onto a set.” Check out everything we’ve got on “The Adventures of Tintin” and “War Horse.” For breaking news, celebrity columns, humor and more — updated around the clock — visit MTVMoviesBlog.com . Steven Spielberg Talks ‘Indy 5’ And ‘Crystal Skull’ Backlash

‘I would not make a fifth movie to prove any point,’ director says of ‘Indiana Jones’ series. By Kevin P. Sullivan, with reporting by Josh Horowitz Steven Spielberg Photo: MTV News Fans of the “Indiana Jones” movies have a complicated relationship with the series as a whole. No one knows this better than Steven Spielberg , the man who had to listen when fans cried out as the latest entry, “Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull,” failed to meet expectations. Now with talk of George Lucas writing a potential fifth film, Spielberg could stand to undo what some fans saw as a bitter farewell to the beloved character. When the director spoke with MTV News’ Josh Horowitz while promoting “The Adventures of Tintin,” he explained that he would have nothing to prove with a new Indy movie. “I already like the last ‘Indy.’ I loved ‘Crystal Skull,’ ” Spielberg said. “Yeah, I had a difference of opinion with the MacGuffin, so to speak, which I thought was a little bit out of character with the other MacGuffins in the other three films, but I still loved the experience making it.” The fan reaction to “Crystal Skulls” reminded Spielberg of the similar backlash he faced after the release of “Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom.” “We had the same criticism on ‘Temple of Doom.’ That movie came out and it changed the whole rating system. Jack Valenti and I conspired to create the PG-13 rating system based on the number of complaints about the harshness and the heart coming out of the chest on a PG movie. I went through the same thing,” he said. To Spielberg, the general opinion about the series is split down the middle. “I think audiences think we’re two for two. They love Raiders, ” he said. “They love Last Crusade. They don’t love as much Temple of Doom or Crystal Skull.” Taking that into consideration, the director still feels no requirement for a fifth film. “I would not make a fifth movie to prove any point. If we get a good story, I’ll make it. If George [Lucas] doesn’t think we should make any more, I’ll listen to him,” Spielberg said. First Look at Daniel Day-Lewis as Steven Spielberg’s Eerily Accurate Lincoln

Steven Spielberg couldn’t be at the AFI Fest premiere of The Adventures of Tintin because he was filming Lincoln in Virginia — and now we know that the Lincoln production process is a completely-effing-serious one. Not only does star Daniel Day-Lewis look remarkable as Lincoln in this new candid photo, but Variety ‘s Jeff Sneider Tweeted a report that he “hasn’t broken his Lincoln accent since March” and his “real name doesn’t even appear on the call sheet.” That is commitment. And insanity. And the new photo will haunt you like a specter in Ford’s Theatre.

‘Paul’: Five Secrets Revealed

Among the little-known details about the sci-fi comedy, director Greg Mottola tells MTV News Steven Spielberg lined up his own cameo. By Eric Ditzian Nick Frost and Simon Pegg in “Paul” Photo: Universal Pictures The origin story of “Paul,” Simon Pegg and Nick Frost’s new sci-fi comedy about two English guys who encounter a goofy alien in the American Southwest, began on the soggy U.K. set of “Shaun of the Dead” in 2003. The crew had lost so many days because of rain that they started wondering how great it would be to shoot in a location where it never, ever, ever rained. “We just spit-balled from there,” Frost told MTV News recently. “No rain became the desert, the desert became Area 51 and then it was a short step to thinking about these two guys encountering an alien.”

Grey’s Anatomy Pain Scale: From Cardiology to (Irish) Car Bombs

Shonda Rhimes hid a few important lessons in last night’s Grey’s Anatomy : For example, even if you Super Glue yourself to your girlfriend, love (and a frustrated surgeon wielding acetone) will still tear you apart. Also, just because you are a star surgeon does not mean that you know how to properly mix an Irish car bomb. Finally, no matter how much of a lesbian you think you are, you will never be able to resist sex from a man nicknamed McSteamy. So pop a few pain killers — nothing to burst that stomach ulcer though — and continue onto the pain readings from last night’s episode, “Slow Night, So Long.”
