Britney Spears to Sign Book Deal, Pen First Novel

Britney Spears is in talks regarding a book deal with HarperCollins imprint It Books, sources report, and will soon author her first novel . Yes, Brit’s writing fiction. No word yet on what the topic(s) for the young adult work will be. In all seriousness, the pop great is following in the footsteps of Lauren Conrad and Snooki in penning what will be a fictionalized account of her real-life experiences. Britney Spears ‘ rep confirms to The Hollywood Reporter, who first reported the news, that HarperCollins is indeed having “discussions” with the singer. Would you buy a novel obviously ghost-written under her name?

Madonna performed in Moscow this week and lent her support to embattled punk trio Pussy Riot, as well as to the cause of human unity worldwide. Despite Elton John claiming her career is over , no one told the raucous Russian crowd as they cheered the Queen of Pop’s every controversial move. Check out her tribute to imprisoned female group Pussy Riot, who were arrested for staging an unauthorized concert a Moscow Cathedral in March:

Ryan Lochte, Michael Phelps to Go Dancing With the Stars?

The London Olympics are almost over, but will we see swimming studs Ryan Lochte and Michael Phelps square off on Dancing With the Stars next? A newly-retired Phelps said earlier in the week that he wouldn’t rule out following in the footsteps of Olympians who have gone on the ABC show. He’d probably do well, but if it’s up to his teammate and friendly rival Lochte, he’d best prepare himself for some stiff competition on the parquet. “Since I’m so used to competing against Michael Phelps, I’d go on [Dancing with the Stars] with him,” said Lochte, who won five medals in 2012. ” I could do Dancing with the Stars ! Yeah, I think so.” No doubt Ryan Lochte’s sister and mom in the audience cheering him on alongside Michael Phelps’ mom in what would be a rematch for the ages. Or at least reality TV. Who’d you rather see on DWTS?

Deena From Jersey Shore With No Makeup: Holy …

Deena Cortese is the latest Jersey Shore star to go without makeup in a self portrait on Twitter, ditching the fake eyelashes, contacts and orange skin that are her staple. The Meatball shared the no-makeup pic herself yesterday, writing “Lol no makeup n hairs in a pony but makos [the cat’s] face is too cute not to tweet.” Indeed. So true. Deena follows in the footsteps of her BFF – remember Snooki without makeup earlier this month? – and we have to say, the change is a positive (albeit short-lived one). Doesn’t she look good? Would Jennifer Egan’s Pulitzer Prize-Winning A Visit From the Goon Squad Make a Good Movie?

Earlier today, Brooklyn author Jennifer Egan was awarded the 2011 Pulitzer Prize for Fiction for A Visit From the Goon Squad . Set in New York City (mostly), Egan’s non-linear novel follows a cast of aging, self-destructive characters involved in or around the music industry and has been celebrated by Publishers Weekly , the New York Times and many other literary outlets. Now, Movieline wonders whether Goon Squad should follow in the footsteps of other Pulitzer Prize-winning novels like The Color Purple , The Hours and The Road and be adapted for the big screen.

’90s television stars: They’re all about the meta! Following in the footsteps of Neil Patrick Harris (who played “Neil Patrick Harris” in the Harold and Kumar franchise) and Matt LeBlanc (who is currently playing “Matt LeBlanc” on the Showtime series Episodes ), James Van Der Beek will play “himself” in the ABC pilot Don’t Trust the Bitch in Apt. 23 . (Expect that hilarious title to change.) The show is about a June, Midwestern girl who moves to New York to live with Chloe, a wild party girl. Van Der Beek will play Chloe’s best friend, and likely make James Van Der Meme-like jokes about his Dawson’s Creek past. [ TVL ine ]
