Kristen Stewart Does Toronto

Kristen Stewart decided to show her face at the Toronto Film Festival to promote her new movie, “On The Road.” I couldn’t care less if she was caught cheating on Robert Pattinson, nor do I feel bad for him one bit. I’m sure he’ll have no problem hooking up with another co-star in no time. Anyway, I wonder if this movie is going to showcase Kirsten’s amazing acting ability. And by acting ability, I mean her over-breathing. Watch the video below…it’s probably safe to say that Rupert Sanders wasn’t the first director she banged to get a part.

Wachowskis, Ryan Gosling, Ben Affleck, And More: 15 High Profile Toronto Debuts Most Likely To Succeed

The Toronto International Film Festival annually boasts one of the deepest and glitziest line-ups of the year, and while there are many under-the-radar discoveries to be made, TIFF can be a very effective launching pad for upcoming studio releases and Oscar hopefuls alike. With Tom Hanks, Ben Affleck , Ryan Gosling , Paul Thomas Anderson , Kristen Stewart , Jake Gyllenhaal , Spike Lee , Keira Knightley , Bill Murray and more bringing films to Toronto, which films and A-listers are set to make the biggest splash at the fest starting tomorrow night? [ PHOTO GALLERY: The 15 Toronto Titles Most Likely To Succeed ] Argo , Ben Affleck Headed to theaters in October via Warner Bros., Ben Affleck ’s third directorial effort is also his most ambitious to date following his strong crime thrillers Gone Baby Gone and The Town . Based on the true story of a joint Hollywood-CIA plot to rescue six diplomats during the Iran Hostage Crisis, Argo boasts a stellar supporting cast – Bryan Cranston, John Goodman, Philip Baker Hall, Alan Arkin, Clea Duvall, and Kyle Chandler among them – anchored by Affleck himself as real life CIA operative Tony Mendez. Oscar buzz began last weekend at Telluride , where Affleck earned kudos for his work in front of and behind the camera. The Master , Paul Thomas Anderson Paul Thomas Anderson’s much-anticipated drama has navigated its own unorthodox course of promotion through secret screenings and teaser trailers ahead of its September 14 bow in limited release. ( Read Movieline’s sneak review here .) A highly successful official bow at the Venice Film Festival before a stop in Toronto only shored up more critical support for the period drama, about an ex-seaman (Joaquin Phoenix) drawn into the inner circle of an L. Ron Hubbard-esque figure (Philip Seymour Hoffman). Expect Anderson’s latest to keep riding the wave all the way through awards season and pique interest beyond the art house with its parallels to Scientology . The Place Beyond the Pines , Derek Cianfrance In The Place Beyond The Pines Ryan Gosling – tattooed, blond, and a biker – reunites with director Derek Cianfrance, who captured one of Gosling’s finest and most wrenching performances in Blue Valentine . Here Cianfrance pits Gosling’s vagabond-outlaw motorcyclist against an ambitious young cop (Bradley Cooper) in what Toronto Film Festival artistic director Cameron Bailey calls “a study of vengeance, memory and fate.” Rose Byrne and Eva Mendes (who’s been dating Gosling, ZOMG) also star. If you loved the Baby Goose in Drive , how can you resist? On the Road , Walter Salles Despite mixed reviews out of Cannes , Walter Salles’ adaptation of the Beat generation classic is primed to make a splash upon release this December – mostly thanks to the star power (and, let’s be real, the tabloid power) of Kristen Stewart , whose turn as the wild Marylou marks the beginning of a departure from her well-known Twilight alter ego. But On the Road could also boost the profile of Garrett Hedlund ( TRON ) – and the additional wattage of Kirsten Dunst , Viggo Mortensen , and Amy Adams doesn’t hurt, either. Looper , Rian Johnson Rian Johnson ( Brick , Brothers Bloom ) is back with a sci-fi tale with a twist: Joseph Gordon-Levitt stars underneath a prosthetic Bruce Willis nose as Joe, a “looper” – a hitman who offs targets sent back in time from the future. When he encounters his future self and fails to finish the job, Joe finds himself both hunter and hunted as time runs out. After premiering on opening night of the Toronto Film Festival, Looper will hit theaters on September 28 – a surprising must-see for sci-fi fans.

Passion Trailer: Rachel McAdams And Noomi Rapace Get Down And Get Weird In SCTV-esque Clip

Watching the trailer for Brian De Palma’s upcoming film Passion ,  I get the feeling that he could be a fan of SCTV ‘s classic Whispers of the Wolf   Ingmar Bergman parody.  Yes, I know that De Palma’s erotic thriller is based on the late Alain Corneau’s final film Love Crime (2010 ), about two international business women locked in a power struggle —  but there’s something about Noomi Rapace’s vacant stare in the first scenes of the trailer that reminds me of the great Andrea Martin’s performance in the SCTV  comedy gem. (You can see both videos after the jump.)  And Rapace’s co-star Rachel McAdams strikes me as a more vulpine version of the also-great Catherine O’Hara. I couldn’t help but notice that both clips feature masks, by the way, although based on the contents of the sex drawer that gets opened in the Passion trailer, De Palma’s movie is going to be way kinkier than anything that ever ran on Count Floyd’s Monster Chiller Horror Theater. Here’s the trailer for  Passion , which is going to premiere at the Venice Film Festival in September and screen that same month at the Toronto Film Festival: Watch It on YouTube. Now check out Whispers of the Wolf .  Enjoy! Follow Frank DiGiacomo on Twitter.  Follow Movieline on Twitter.

Kristen Stewart To Miss MTV VMAs For On The Road’s Toronto Premiere?

It was the Tweet heard ’round the Twilight -sphere: Toronto Film Festival Artistic Director Cameron Bailey announced via Twitter that Kristen Stewart will be attending the festival with her film On The Road … which just happens to be premiering on September 6, the same night as the MTV Video Music Awards . Coincidental scheduling conflict or convenient timing for avoiding certain Breaking Dawn promotional duties with (or without) betrayed vampire BF Robert Pattinson? Interested parties: 1 addition to our #TIFF12 guest list: Kristen Stewart for ON THE ROAD— Cameron Bailey (@cameron_tiff) August 21, 2012 Neither Stewart nor Pattinson had been confirmed to attend the VMAs, though fans had still held out hope that they’d see one or both in attendance at the annual event. Both stars along with Taylor Lautner were also reportedly opting out of convention tour duties surrounding the Twilight Saga ‘s final installment. “I like pushing and watching a genuine experience on screen,” Stewart of her sexually-daring performance after the film’s Cannes debut. “The reason I wanted to do the job was to be provoked as much as possible and then to do it and take it further. We were just going forth, and as long as you’re being honest there’s nothing to be ashamed of.” [ @Cameron_tiff ]

Director Mark Romanek Wants To Direct Lady Gaga Video

‘Never Let Me Go’ director would return to directing videos if Gaga, Radiohead or Tom Waits call. By Eric Ditzian, with reporting by Josh Horowitz Lady Gaga Photo: WireImage Since MTV’s Video Music Awards launched in 1984, a select few artists and directors have been honored with the Video Vanguard statuette in recognition of their unique contributions to the ever-changing art form. Mark Romanek is one of them. The director vaulted from working with the likes of Michael Jackson, Madonna and David Bowie to directing Robin Williams in 2002’s “One Hour Photo.” By now, though, Romanek dubs himself “semi-retired” when it comes to directing music videos. That’s not hard to understand, considering how well things have gone for him in Hollywood. His latest feature, “Never Let Me Go,” stars Oscar nominees Keira Knightley and Carey Mulligan. Yet there are a few artists for whom Romanek would happily un-retire. “If Radiohead called or Tom Waits called, I’d go running,” he told MTV News while promoting his new film at the Toronto Film Festival. “Or Gaga, actually.” “Lady Gaga is still doing stuff in the old-school, ’90s way,” he explained. “The ‘Alejandro’ video was really impressive.” That would be Gaga’s homage to Weimar-era Germany , all angular outfits and black-and-white moodiness. “[It is] about a woman’s desire to resurrect a dead love and who cannot face the brutality of her present situation,” the video’s director, Steven Klein , told MTV News in June. “The pain of living without your true love.” Gaga wouldn’t be the first fierce female artist to collaborate with Romanek. He worked alongside Madonna for “Bedtime Stories” and Janet Jackson — and the King of Pop himself — for the seminal “Scream” video in 1995. And though Romanek hasn’t directed a video since Coldplay’s “Speed of Sound” in 2005, he’s certainly open to returning to that world for the “‘Alejandro” singer. “She’s adventurous and visually stunning and takes chances,” he said. “Call me up!” Check out everything we’ve got on “Never Let Me Go.” For breaking news, celebrity columns, humor and more — updated around the clock — visit MTVMoviesBlog.com . Easy A Director Will Gluck on Emma Stone’s Star Quality and Amanda Bynes’s Semi-Retirement

The upcoming Emma Stone vehicle Easy A is all about how one simple thing can change your reputation overnight, so what will the highly anticipated high school comedy do for director Will Gluck? As befits its name, the Toronto Film Festival’s Midnight Madness program took to Twitter in the wee hours of Tuesday to announce a few additions to next month’s slate.
