Source: Scott Dudelson / Getty He Joins A Long List Of Artist Coming For The Video Game Rappers and viral move-makers alike are continuing their campaign against Fortnite and this time BlocBoy JB is joining the fray. According to TMZ , the Tennessee spitter has filed a lawsuit against Epic Games, the company behind Fortnite , saying they stole his “Shoot” dance. The popular leg and hand-chopping move was featured in BlocBoy’s music video for “Shoot,” and Drake made it even more popular when he performed it at parties and in his “Look Alive” music video with BlocBoy. Fortnite has an identical dance that players can acquire called the “Hype” dance. BlocBoy is calling BS, saying Fortnite didn’t get permission to use a dance he created in their video game. Granted, BlocBoy never copyrighted the dance when Fortnite used it, but he says he’s in the process of getting that done. He’s being repped by Sandy Lal and David L. Hecht , who’s repping other artists and dancers accusing Fortnite of theft , including Alfonso Ribeiro . Ribeiro, who’s forever treasured as Carlton from The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, filed his lawsuit against Fortnite back in December 2018. He accuses the game of stealing his “Carlton dance” for use in the game. Backpack Kid , who’s behind “The Floss” dance, and 2 Milly , who ushered in the Milly Rock, are also coming for Fortnite ‘s coins. Smh, they better stop playing with these dancers.
Source: Regina Wagner/Future Image/WENN.com / WENN Over the course of his long career, Spike Lee has enjoyed a number of accolades but being recognized by the voting members of The Oscars as a top director and for delivering a great film has eluded him. That changed on Tuesday (Jan. 22) after the announcement for the 2019 Academy Awards, giving Lee his first Best Picture and Best Director nods. Variety reports : After more than three decades of making films that have collectively established an undeniable cultural legacy, 61-year-old auteur Spike Lee is finally an Academy Award nominee for best picture and director. It’s as noteworthy a headline as Tuesday’s Oscar nominations announcement is bound to produce. In fact, Lee’s original screenplay notice for the 1989 lightning rod “Do the Right Thing,” which will celebrate its 30th anniversary this summer, and a bid for the 1997 documentary “4 Little Girls,” remained his only Oscar nominations to date until this morning, when he picked up three for “BlacKkKlansman.” The Academy somewhat rectified the years of oversight for landmark achievements like “Malcolm X” and “25th Hour” (considered by some to be one of the very best films of its decade) with an Honorary Oscar in 2015, but Lee’s bids for directing and producing his latest are obviously a long time coming. Source: Greg Doherty / Getty Soulja Boy’s road to video game greatness has hit another snag. King Draco made the claim that his next “console” will have the addictive game Fortnite on it. The game’s developer says that is not happening. During Soulja Boy’s epic press tour where we witness the classic Breakfast Club interview and the off the rails Everyday Struggle visit, DJ Akademiks asked Big Soulja about his sketchy consoles. The “Crank That” rapper has drawn a lot of criticism for selling marked up, poorly constructed Anbernic consoles that are loaded with pirated games. Soulja has denied the accusations and thinks its just case people hating on him and explained to Akademiks that “It’s not a scam,” and “every game on there is licensed.” Despite Nintendo approaching Soulja forcing him to “boss up” and stop selling the janky video game systems, he is now claiming Fortnite will somehow be on his next console. Epic Games, however, shut that claim down immediately and states that will never happen. In a statement issued to Dual Shockers , Epic’s Senior PR Manager, Nick Chester said: “No, you can’t play Fortnite on a rooted or jailbroken device due to anti-cheat measures.” Well there you have it, Soulja Boy has yet to respond, but we expect him to do so soon. As for Fortnite, the game has earned $3 billion in profits last year and is the subject of lawsuits from rapper 2 Milly, actor Alfonso Ribiero, and The Backpack Kid. — Photo: Greg Doherty / Getty
As you’re no doubt aware, celebrities play the game of life by a different set of rules than the rest of us. Behavior that wouldn’t fly for a hot second in the world of plebes is not only condoned but celebrated when it’s perpetrated by an actor with a role in a corporate film franchise or one of the few recording artists that can still sell out a stadium. But if the #MeToo movement has taught us anything, it’s that even for the rich and powerful, there comes a time when society draws a line in the sand. Which is why the whole world is looking at Drake right now with a collective “bruh, WTF are you doing?” expression. As you may have heard, the rapper maintains a close friendship with Stranger Things star Millie Bobby Brown. Brown opened up about her close relationship with the 31-year-old rapper at the 2018 Emmys last week, and we imagine every single viewers’ face simultaneously contorted into a perfect replica of the “yikes” emoji. Millie Bobby Brown on Drake To be clear, Millie is in no way at fault here. We imagine most 14-year-olds would leap at the chance to befriend one of their favorite recording artists. It’s Drake — and to a slightly lesser extent, Millie’s parents — who are deserving of the hard side-eye here. In order to understand how creepy this is, you need only to strip Drizzy of his celebrity status and re-examine the situation as though he were just Some Dude. If you knew nothing about Drake other than the fact that he’s a 31-year-old man who’s in the habit of routinely texting a 14-year-old girl and telling her how much he misses her, whatever shred of sympathy you might have had for the rap world’s answer to Humbert Humbert would likely go right out the window. Like most celebrities, he gets a pass on certain actions that would get him rightly shunned from civilian society. Fortunately, in 2018, powerful men no longer get away with every kind of questionable behavior. We’re not saying Drake is as bad as the worst of the #MeToo offenders, but his image as the non-threatening nice guy of the hip hop world has taken quite a few hits in recent months. As you may recall, the summer of 2018 began with the revelation that Drake has a secret son , with whom he’s barely had any contact. Drake attempted a lame explanation as to why he’s been hiding his son from the world (he was actually hiding the world from his son , the rapper explained, in full earnest-Drizzy mode), but for the most part, the public wasn’t buying his victim routine. Shortly thereafter, we learned that Drake was dating an 18-year-old fan and aspiring model. Again, not illegal — but not the sort of thing that inspires much faith in the man’s character. Now, we have Drake’s relationship with Millie. Again, it’s possible that the rapper entered this situation with the best of intentions, but to say he’s handling it poorly at this point would be to massively understate the awkwardness of how this is all playing out. On social media, Brown has attempted to diffuse the situation (see above), while Drake has kept mum, thus leaving her to twist in the wind. We can only hope dude is quietly extricating himself from the situation and gently explaining to Millie his reasons for doing so. You’ve had a very rough year, Drizzy — time to start earning some redemption.
Actor Al Matthews, best known for his memorable role in the film Aliens , has died. The iconic actor had retired to Spain, which is where he passed away. He was 75. 75-year-old Al Matthews passed away at his home, according to Spanish newspaper El Pais . Matthews’ home was located in Orihuela Costa, in the Spanish Mediterranean province of Alicante. He had retired to Spain in 2005. Responders found Matthews when a neighbor called emergency services. An autopsy is expected for the late actor. Matthews is, of course, best known for his role as Gunnery Sergeant Apone in James Cameron’s 1986 classic, Aliens . In the science fiction film, he starred alongside living legend Sigourney Weaver. He delivered a truly famous line. “Alright sweethearts, what are you waiting for, breakfast in bed? A day in the Marine Corps is like a day on the farm,” he said on screen. The quote continues: “Every meal’s a banquet! Every paycheck a fortune! Every formation a parade! I love the corps!” That may have been Matthews’ most famous role, but was far from the only one. In fact, he appeared in over 30 films. Matthews portrayed a fire chief in Superman III . He played General Tudor in the cult classic The Fifth Element . He also enjoyed success in the United Kingdom, where he had a role on the UK series, Grange Hill . And speaking of his work across the pond, in 1975, his song, “Fool,” reached #16 on the UK Singles chart. Despite his retirement, Matthews reprised his legendary role as Sgt. Apone in the 2013 video game, Aliens: Colonial Marines . Perhaps part of what made Matthews’ role in Aliens so iconic and powerful — aside from his acting skills — was that he had been a real life marine in Vietnam. “I spent six years in the United States Marine Corps;” Matthews shared on his personal website. “I hold thirteen combat awards and decorations, including two purple hearts.” He reveals: “I was the first black Marine in the 1st Marine Division in Vietnam to be meritoriously promoted to the rank of sergeant.” That is one hell of an achievement. His website blurb concludes: “I served with Kilo Battery, Fourth Battalion, 11th Marines, 1st Marine Division, of that I am very proud.” Rest in peace, Al Matthews. You know how Instagram doesn’t allow women’s nipples? It’s also not a huge fan of graphic videos of sexual intercourse. But that is just what rapper Boonk Gang decided to post. To his Instagram stories. Yes, his Instagram has been deleted. But obviously, the videos that he shared will live forever on the internet. Though we have a number of images, including a .gif for you below, we cannot actually show you the full video of Boonk Gang taking a woman to pound town. You’re welcome. We have, however, seen the videos. We are burdened with this terrible knowledge. As his Instagram Stories begin, his is performing oral sex on an unidentified woman. In the next video that he shares, he and this woman are performing oral sex on each other in a sixty-nine . Then he is shown having venereal intercourse with this woman, which is followed by an image of his Twitter feed where he mentions enjoying sex. “I like to have a lot of sex,” Boonk Gang tweeted on Saturday. Clearly. It was on Sunday, July 1, that he decided to share so much of his sex life with his followers. The series of Instagram stories ended with Boonk Gang recording himself as the woman performed oral sex on him. We don’t think that any of us necessarily needed to know what sorts of face journeys this particular rapper goes on during sex, but … we know anyway. We cropped this pretty heavily. Again, you are welcome. As we mentioned, Instagram absolutely deleted his account for obvious violations of their terms and service. Instagram is not Snapchat. In an apparent response, Boonk Gang has also uploaded a video of himself during a different sexual encounter with a different woman. This video, which he posted on Twitter on Monday night, is still up as of Tuesday afternoon. If you’re thinking of checking it out, don’t do so at work. Or around children. And be aware that the video is right there and does not have any sort of subtle introduction. Boonk Gang first rose to fame, not as a rapper, but as a social media star. His real name is John Robert Hill. His initial claim to fame was a video of him stealing a box of chicken from Popeye’s. He built his brand off of committing thefts like that. About one year ago, in July of 2017, Boonk Gang was the victim of one of the internet’s infamous “death hoaxes.” He is still alive and kicking. Among other things. As you might guess for a guy who got famous from stealing things, he has definitely been arrested. Multiple times. The guy also followed in Kim Kardashian’s footsteps — he has his own video game. Boonk Gang: The Video Game came out in September of last year, and the player plays as Boonk while accumulating money and avoiding the police. Charming. We can only speculate as to what motivated Boonk Gang to sacrifice his Instagram to show a bunch of strangers video of him having quiet sex with a woman. Given that all of his pranks (including literal crimes) are stunts to promote his rap career, this may be his intention. But in the process, he’s lost the Instagram account that allowed him to rise to fame in the first place. Maybe he’s shedding his old trappings and embracing a whole new approach to his career? No more stealing and a lot more sex? Or maybe the dude just loves sex and has way too little impulse control.
Source: AFP / Getty Folks…Instagram is at again! After coming for Snapchat’s life by creating Insta Stories in 2016 , IG now seems to be coming for YouTube with their new long-form video sharing. At a San Francisco event on Wednesday, Instagram announced IGTV for Instagram creators. It will be a feature within the main Instagram app and it will be it’s own separate app for iOS and Android. As soon as people log into IGTV it will automatically play vertical long-form videos from people you follow. Similar to turning on a TV, but without the big TV networks. At launch, IGTV will not involve any ads and the company has yet to create a revenue sharing agreement with creators. However, IG eventually wants creators to make a living off the service. They’ve already partnered with a few IG personalities to pre-populate the service with content. Brands and media organizations will also be invited to participate. Beauty vlogger Manny Gutierrez , video game streamer Ninja , and fitness personality Katie Austin are just a few of the creators who were invited to test IGTV. The new video service will allow users to upload up to ten minutes of video to Instagram, while people with larger followings can upload up to an hour of video. Eventually, the Facebook-owned company hopes to let users post videos of unlimited length, according to Instagram CEO Kevin Systrom. So yea…like I said, Instagram now seems to be coming for YouTube. That’s not to say YouTube should be severely threatened by IGTV, considering YouTube does non-vertical video content and they have YouTube red. But IG is definitely making the competition stiff! Are you excited for IGTV? Let us know on Twitter or Facebook!
