Terry Richardson: Controversial Photographer Blacklisted Amidst Sex Scandal

The past few weeks have brought a number of surprising allegations against some of the most influential men in Hollywood, most notably, formerly esteemed mogul Harvey Weinstein. Just kidding, no one was actually surprised that Weinstein is a gross predator who’s been using his power to get away with all manner of despicable things for decades. In fact, here at THG, we’ve been reporting on harassment allegations against Weinstein for years . We say that not to pat ourselves on the back, because that would be incredibly gross, but merely to point out that anyone who’s paid attention to Weinstein’s career knows that allegations of sexual misconduct have consistently clung to him like a bad smell. And if they claim otherwise, they’re full of it. (We’re looking at you, Matt Damon.)  Hollywood insiders like to throw around the term “open secret” because it’s acknowledging the ugly truth of the situation: There are certain people in Hollywood who can get away with literally anything–including harassment and rape–and everyone who’s lower than them on the totem pole will ignore it, because they hope to one day be that powerful themselves, and they know that guys like Weinstein hold the keys to the castle. Of course, this sort of behavior isn’t limited to the movie business. There are predators in every line of work, and many will happily abuse the smallest modicum of power. Take, for example, famed photographer Terry Richardson. Just when you didn’t think it was possible for anyone to be a more obvious perv than Weinstein, along comes the revoltingly-nicknamed “Uncle Terry.” You may not be surprised by the fact that a man who’s bragged about his talent for convincing reluctant celebrities to take their clothes off has some issues with boundaries, but apparently many of his colleagues were. Richardson is a household name in the worlds of fashion and photography, and you may know him as the director of Miley Cyrus’ “Wrecking Ball” video and the man whose name is mentioned alongside every self-consciously “artsy” black-and-white nude photo of a famous person. Unfortunately for Richardson, it seems that in the wake of the Weinstein allegations, he’s now the latest to be called out by numerous women who claim he’s guilty of various acts of harassment and abuse. According to the New York Post , publishing powerhouse Condé Nast has already cut ties with Richardson and ordered that all work of his that’s been commissioned but not yet used should be “killed or substituted with other material.” Other major media outlets that have used Richardson’s work in the past are expected to follow suit. Details about the allegations against Richardson are scarce at this time, but it’s telling that none of his current or former colleagues are rushing to the photographer’s defense. In fact, the biggest question being asked today has nothing to do with Richardson’s conduct, and everything to do with why it took so long for the industry to drum him out.

Terry Crews: I Was Sexually Assaulted, Too

Over the past several days, Hollywood has been rocked by an ever-growing scandal centered around Harvey Weinstein . The long-time movie producer was revealed by The New York Times last week to be a serial sexual harasser, as the newspaper revealed eight past instances in which Weinstein paid off alleged victims in exchange for the silence. Since then, Weinstein has basically admitted to many of the charges… issued a bizarre apology … been fired by the company he helped build… … and been accused of rape by seven different women . It’s an ugly, ugly, UGLY situation. However, if any silver lining can come out of this controversy, it’s the exposure of sexual misconduct in the entertainment industry and how so many women have disgusting stories to tell. Numerous actresses have been coming forward of late with statements about their own sordid past with Weinstein and/or with some other high-powered male who put them in an awkward (at best) circumstance. Enough of this behavior is enough – and perhaps this bombshell of a report will help curb such gross behavior. But Terry Crews wants the public to know that women aren’t the only victims. He was once groped by a Hollywood executive. “This whole thing with Harvey Weinstein is giving me PTSD. Why? Because this kind of thing happened to ME,” the Brooklyn 99 star wrote as the first of many Tweets outlining what happened to him. We’ll just let the actor take it from here. We’ll let Crews tell his own awful story… My wife n I were at a Hollywood function last year n a high level Hollywood executive came over 2 me and groped my privates. (2/cont.) Jumping back I said What are you doing?! My wife saw everything n we looked at him like he was crazy. He just grinned like a jerk. (3/cont.)  I was going to kick his ass right then— but I thought twice about how the whole thing would appear. (4/cont.) “240 lbs. Black Man stomps out Hollywood Honcho” would be the headline the next day. (5/cont.) Only I probably wouldn’t have been able to read it because I WOULD HAVE BEEN IN JAIL. So we left. (6/cont.) That night and the next day I love what I do. But it’s a shame and the height of disappointment when someone tries to takes advantage of that. (12/cont.)I talked to everyone I knew that worked with him about what happened. (7/cont.) He called me the next day with an apology but never really explained why he did what he did. (8/cont.) I decided not 2 take it further becuz I didn’t want 2b ostracized— par 4 the course when the predator has power n influence. (9/cont.) I let it go. And I understand why many women who this happens to let it go. (10/cont.) Who’s going 2 believe you? ( few) What r the repercussions?(many) Do u want 2 work again? (Yes) R you prepared 2b ostracized?(No)(11/cont.) I love what I do. But it’s a shame and the height of disappointment when someone tries to takes advantage of that. (12/cont.) He knows who he is. But sumtimes Uhav2 wait & compare notes w/ others who’ve been victimized in order 2gain a position of strength. (13cont) I understand and empathize with those who have remained silent. But Harvey Weinstein is not the only perpetrator. (14/cont.) Hollywood is not the only business we’re this happens, and to the casualties of this behavior— you are not alone. (15/cont.) Hopefully, me coming forward with my story will deter a predator and encourage someone who feels hopeless. (16/end) Wow. We admire Terry Crews for coming out with this story. Bravo, sir.

Harvey Weinstein Quotes Jay Z, Threatens NRA in Bizarre, Rambling "Apology"

Well… this is one way to deal with sexual harassment allegations. On Thursday afternoon, The New York Times published a bombshell article in which it quoted multiple women who claimed Harvey Weinstein took advantage of them in various inappropriate ways. According to this report, the veteran film producer has settled eight separate sexual misconduct claims over the years. Ashley Judd is among the women who have issued complaints against Weinstein. She’s now on record as saying Weinstein answered his hotel room door in 1997, while Judd was shooting the movie Kiss the Girls, and asked if he could either massage her or if she would watch him take a shower. We know, right? EWWWWW . In response to this multitude of claims against him, Weinstein basically acknowledged his many decades’ worth of lewd behavior. “I appreciate the way I’ve behaved with colleagues in the past has caused a lot of pain, and I sincerely apologize for it,” he said, adding at the time: “Though I’m trying to do better, I know I have a long way to go.” Fair enough, we guess. What else could he really say in the face of these allegations? We now have the answer. In a follow-up statement, clearly written without the help of a publicist, Weinstein opened by blaming the era in which he started his career for how he acted toward the opposite sex. “I came of age in the 60’s and 70’s, when all the rules about behavior and workplaces were different. That was the culture then,” the producer said. “I have since learned it’s not an excuse, in the office – or out of it. To anyone.” Okay, fine.  If Weinstein had stopped there, we wouldn’t even be writing this right now. But he didn’t stop there. “Though I’m trying to do better, I know I have a long way to go. That is my commitment,” he added. “My journey now will be to learn about myself and conquer my demons. Over the last year I’ve asked Lisa Bloom to tutor me and she’s put together a team of people. “I’ve brought on therapists and I plan to take a leave of absence from my company and to deal with this issue head on. I so respect all women and regret what happened.” For the record, Lisa Bloom is a lawyer who specializes in representing celebrities seeking some kind of payday. She sat alongside Blac Chyna this summer, for example, during her revenge porn case against Rob Kardashian . It’s unclear how she has been acting as a “tutor” to Weinstein. Weinstein then wrote this: Jay Z wrote in 4:44 “I’m not the man I thought I was and I better be that man for my children.” The same is true for me. I want a second chance in the community but I know I’ve got work to do to earn it. For the record: Jay Z did not rap these words. What he did rap was this: “And if my children knew/I don’t even know what I would do/If they ain’t look at me the same/I would prob’ly die with all the shame.” From there, Weinstein – inspired, we suppose, by this week’s Las Vegas shooting – turned his attention to… the National Rifle Assocation? Yup. “I’ve decided that I’m going to give the NRA my full attention. I hope Wayne LaPierre will enjoy his retirement party. “I’m going to do it at the same place I had my Bar Mitzvah. I’m making a movie about our President, perhaps we can make it a joint retirement party.” Finally, after touting his progressive bona fides in this manner, Weinstein wrapped it up. “One year ago, I began organizing a $5 million foundation to give scholarships to women directors at USC,” he wrote, concluding: “While this might seem coincidental, it has been in the works for a year. It will be named after my mom and I won’t disappoint her.” We’ve got a feeling it’s way too late for that. Mrs. Weinstein is likely quite disappointed in her son already.
