A handful of new Star Trek Into Darkness photos have hit the web, and they’re nothing to write home about, but the image of space-suited Spock ( Zachary Quinto ) did catch my attention. Judging from the steam rising up off the Vulcan’s protective gear, I’m guessing that this image could serve as an “After” shot to the “Before” image below of Spock hanging out in what’s been reported as a volcano. (Or is that vulcan-o? Ba-dum-bump!) The best part? Spock’s expression remains virtually the same no matter what temperature he’s at. Follow Frank DiGiacomo on Twitter . Follow Movieline on Twitter .

In ‘AHS’ season two, Lange is ‘a bride of Christ,’ writer tells MTV News. By Jocelyn Vena, with reporting by Tami Katzoff Jessica Lange in “American Horror Story” Photo: While there have been scant details regarding the second season of “American Horror Story” floating around since it was announced it would be rebooted in a new time and place with spanking-new characters, what fans have been most clamoring to know about is how season one bad girl Jessica Lange will be re-imagined for the series. “She’s not playing this kind of ersatz Tennessee Williams character this time,” “AHS” writer Tim Minear told MTV News about Lange in season two. “She’s playing something that’s a little more East Coast, a little more patrician.” While she was a bit of a darkly motivated, self-involved floozy in season one, her new backstory seems to paint a different picture for the character. “She’s playing a nun,” he said. “She’s playing an administrator of a facility. It’s different. In this instance, she’s a bride of Christ.” Season one of the FX horror series took place in sunny Los Angeles, which served as the backdrop to Murder House and its disturbed inhabitants, both living and dead. But, season two will take place in the 1960s on the East Coast with a mental institution as the locale for all the creepiness. Lange will call the shots, which is sort of what she did in season one as well, but it seems she’ll be motivated in a whole new set of ways. “We thought it would be cool. I mean, the truth is, when I first met with [creators] Ryan Murphy and Brad Falchuk about the show, I came in, I read the pilot script, and I’m like, ‘OK guys, this is all very well and good — I don’t know how you make this into a TV show. I don’t know how you sustain this,’ ” Minear recalled. “And Ryan immediately had the answer, and that was, ‘Oh, the way we sustain it is by the end of the season, we have killed off every character.’ And I’m like, ‘I’m in!’ And then you revamp it. Basically, in season two, you have a whole new story, a whole new location, a whole new time frame. You just do something different,” he added. “The reason we’re doing it in the 1960s is because that fits the story that we want to tell.” Given that anything is possible in the “AHS” world, there’s a chance that the infamous Murder House just might make a cameo. “I wouldn’t rule anything out,” Minear shared. Sure, everyone has been salivating over details about Lange and her newly learned good-girl character, but there’s another casting that has everyone intrigued: Maroon 5 leading man Adam Levine has been cast as one of “The Lovers.” “Let’s say that Adam’s character is kind of a nod to contemporary sensibilities, as opposed to something from the mid-century,” Minear noted. Levine joins other returning castmembers Zachary Quinto, Sarah Paulson, Evan Peters and Lily Rabe as well as Lange. Levine and his bandmates will drop Overexposed on Tuesday. They will sit down with MTV News for an “MTV First” on Monday to discuss the new album, and perhaps Levine will share more details about his “AHS” role. Don’t miss the premiere of Maroon 5’s “One More Night” video during “MTV First: Maroon 5” on Monday, June 25, at 7:53 p.m. on MTV, followed by a 30-minute Q&A with the band on MTV.com. Current “It-Girl” Greta Gerwig, Joel Kinnaman and Zoe Lister Jones were among the cast who turned up for the New York premiere Tuesday night of director Daryl Wein’s Lola Versus , hosted by the Cinema Society. A bumper crop of other actors and socialites also joined in on the fun at the screening in Manhattan’s Chelsea neighborhood, including Zachary Quinto, Noah Baumbach, Olivia Munn, Parker Posey, Russell Simmons, Eve Plumb, Jesse Peretz, Gaby Hoffman, Ed Droste (lead singer of Grizzly Bear) for the screening and after-party at the Boom Boom Room atop the Standard Hotel in the Meatpacking District. In the film, Gerwig plays Lola who is suddenly dumped by her fiance only weeks before their wedding. Her life slowly tailspins as she seeks out close friends for solace and sexual mishaps as she faces turning 30 and being suddenly single. “Zoe [Lister Jones] and I were both single and interested in stories that were honest about break-ups and not just glorified versions of them,” Wein told ML at the Standard Tuesday night. He co-wrote the film along with Lister Jones who co-stars in the film with Gerwig. “Greta is great for the part because she is not an overly-polished lead. She’s vulnerable, likable but still at times unlikable,” he added. Wein said the idea for Lola Versus came to him and Lister-Jones though in the interim other films that deal with being single have cropped up. “There are stories with a feminist [bent] that have come up since then, and we’re all for it. We want more realistic depictions of break-ups and being single to be out there.” Not quite so single in real-life, Gerwig danced with her current beau Noah Baumbach at the party, which was co-hosted Brooks Brothers and Grey Goose along with Cinema Society and its founder Andrew Saffir. Of course there were signature vodka cocktails and the champagne and spectacular Manhattan views kept the soiree going well passed midnight. Rumors, conjecture, speculation… All in a day’s work around the Star Trek 2 gossip mill, where the identity of the villain in J.J. Abrams’s sequel (currently in production) has seemingly undergone more revisions than a Kardashian’s Wiki page over the last few months. We know Benedict Cumberbatch has the part , but which part? Khan? Worf’s Zit? Who knows? Except for the obsessives at TrekMovie, that is — they apparently know. Spoiler alert! (Sort of.) Anyone who hasn’t been paying attention since the days when Benicio Del Toro was originally penciled in as Trek 2 ‘s baddie may be surprised to know that Khan in fact remains the villain, despite indications to the contrary by Abrams. Per TrekMovie [via /film ]: TrekMovie has confirmed this with a number of sources so we no longer consider it to be a rumor. Khan is back in 2013, however sources indicate that the film is not a rehash of “Space Seed,” the original Star Trek episode where Kirk and crew first encounter the genetic superman from the past. Great. Now we get to speculate about the plot. Or just caption the above set photo of Cumberbatch and Zachary Quinto, which crept out a while back from MTV . Your call! [ TrekMovie , /film ]

In the final year of the franchise that made her famous, ‘Twilight’ Tuesday shares three wishes for the birthday girl. By Kara Warner Ashley Greene Photo: Lester Cohen/ WireImage In honor of “Twilight” star Ashley Greene’s 25th birthday, this week’s “Twilight” Tuesday is three birthday wishes for the actress: 2012 Box-Office Success “Twilight” fans will make sure the fifth and final film in the franchise, “The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 2,” will be a success, so we’re not worried about that one. Looking ahead to Greene’s upcoming slate of non-“Twilight” films, we’re excited to see her “saucy” side in teen comedy “LOL,” in which she stars alongside Miley Cyrus and Demi Moore. We’re also intrigued to see how much she’ll scare us (or be scared) in “Apparition,” which opens in August. More Leading Roles Although plenty of attention is paid to “Twilight” superstars Kristen Stewart, Robert Pattinson and Taylor Lautner, Greene has always stood out for us in the way she plays Alice Cullen with such sweetness and sincerity — not to mention her mental and physical toughness. We’d like to see Greene carry a film on her own, specifically a romantic comedy or romantic drama. We’re thinking something along the lines of Rose Byrne’s character in “Bridesmaids” or a Rachel McAdams-esque romantic drama. Stay a Role Model In a world that seems to celebrate the comings and goings of starlets based on their outrageous antics onscreen and off, Greene has handled her rise in fame with poise and class. We appreciate the fact that she has made exquisite and enviable choices when it comes to her red-carpet fashions, which won her a Style Icon Award at the Hollywood Life Young Hollywood Awards. And with respect to making headlines, Greene managed to keep her relationship with former flame Joe Jonas mostly under wraps and free from any tabloid scandal. She did have one nude-photo scandal early on, but the woman recovered gracefully and appears to have a solid head on her shoulders — and we hope she stays that way. “I went from dying to get a gig, to dying to get the gig everyone wants,” Greene has said of her rise to fame via her role in “Twilight.” “So now I’m in this realm with a lot of highly respected actresses, which is an amazing place to be, but also kind of terrifying. … I’m so laser-focused on my career, because when you’re dealt these cards, if you don’t kind of run with it, then you’re an idiot. You gotta take advantage of what you’ve been given.” What birthday wishes do you have for Ashley Greene? Let us know in the comments or tweet me @karawarner!
