To celebrate the launch of The Old Republic on the 20th, a bunch of people got dressed up and headed down to Times Square in New York City to engage in a massive lightsaber battle. Only there was no “battle.” Everyone just stood there like statues. Then onlookers were given lightsabers and pretended to be encased in ice as well. It’s all so bizarre but also really friggin’ cool. STAR WARS: The Old… Broadcasting platform : YouTube Source : Destructoid Discovery Date : 22/12/2011 22:43 Number of articles : 2

Daughter of Kurt Cobain and Courtney Love turns 19 a month before Nevermind ‘s 20th anniversary. By Gil Kaufman Frances Bean Cobain Photo: Steve Granitz/WireImage From the moment of her birth, she was instantly the most famous baby on the planet. Frances Bean Cobain , now 19, is the only child of late Nirvana singer Kurt Cobain and Hole frontwoman Courtney Love . As we were digging through the tape archives this week in the midst of the 20th-anniversary celebration of Nirvana’s landmark Nevermind album, we unearthed some footage of the rock offspring spending quality time with her parents and thought it was worth catching you up on what Frances has been up to lately. Born August 18, 1992, Frances — whose godfather is former R.E.M. singer Michael Stipe and godmother is actress Drew Barrymore — had a childhood that was unusual even by Hollywood standards. While Love tried her best to keep the young Frances out of the spotlight, the toddler would occasionally make the papers on Love’s arm at a movie premiere or public event. Photos: Growing Up Frances Bean Cobain. As she grew older, Frances continued to mostly shun the spotlight, giving only a handful of interviews to date, including her first one in 2005 as a 13-year-old to Teen Vogue. Here are five facts you may not know about Frances Bean:
On the 20th March 2011 I saw Justin Drew Bieber live for the first time in the M.E.N Arena in Manchester, UK. It was honestly the best night of my life. All day I was so so so excited it just wouldn’t sink in. I arrived at the arena a few hours early to wait for Justin but I didn’t have much luck. I then queued up for a while and finally the doors opened at 6:00pm. I ran in and bought the programme straight away. I then found the door that lead to all the floor seats and ran down the steps as fast as I could to the floor. The man then took me to my seats because I was row G, I had no idea what that meant. I was 5 rows from the front, I started to cry because I knew in a few hours I was going to be 5 rows away from my baby. I called my mum up and thanked her for the amazing seats she got me. I sat and felt the buzz and the atmosphere whilst Bluey Robinson performed to get the crowd pumped. Willow Smith then came on and during her last song “Whip my hair” Scooter and Ryan came out on stage and started dancing and whipping their hair. I was so happy I got to see them in the flesh. Then the stage doors opened again and Jaden Smith and Justin ran out and I completely flipped out. I went crazy, I got such an adrenaline rush that when he ran off stage I passed out for a few seconds.. I was that pumped. Then my friend woke me up and I was fine. This is how he pranked her . Then the countdown on the clock began and I couldn’t breathe, I was so hyped, it got to the final 10 second countdown and I was so overwhelmed that the shaking, crying and screaming was uncontrollable. Finally Justin Bieber rose up from below the stage and performed amazingly! It was the best night of my life, I honestly couldn’t have asked for a better experience. 20th March 2011, the night my dream came true, I love you Justin. This is one where it’s probably just to do a quick intro and get out of the way: To commemorate the 20th anniversary of their post-feminist partners-in-crime road trip Thelma and Louise , co-stars Susan Sarandon and Geena Davis dropped by Toronto’s shimmering Bell Lightbox for a special screening and discussion with Toronto International Film Festival honcho Noah Cowan. The fest’s YouTube page put just about 100 seconds of the Oscar winners’ chat online; here’s hoping for there is more where that came from. Check it out:
It was the 20th of April (the concert was on the 23rd) and me, my friend Sarah along with my mum were going to Jakarta (we live in Bali). A day before the concert, we made posters, but when we got to the arena, they took them away. Anyways, Sarah then said “Oh, dude check your emails”. When I did, there was one that said, ‘ CONGRATS BIEBER FAN!’ We didn’t even open the email and me and Sarah started to jump up and down and screaming! I can’t explain how EXCITED we were. But I did have some doubts. Doubts that we won’t meet Justin, because of the lame Indonesian promoters. I was so scared they’d get in the way! The day of the concert, wow! We were so excited. I went with course Sarah, my sister, a family friend and her mum, and another family friend. Even thought the concert was not until 8pm, we set off from my house at around 11 am. When we got there, I was ecstatic. Not only would I be meeting JUSTIN BIEBER in a few hours but I have never seen so much beliebers in my whole life. It was great! People did keep looking at Sarah & I, I think because we were like the only ones not in head to toe purple! When we got to the grounds, we decided to ask around for the Bieber meet & greets. We asked promoters, press, sponsors, EVERYONE. “No, I have no idea what you’re talking about. No. I don’t know. Go ask another person. No. No. NOOOOO.” I was getting frustrated how it was disorganized. Then I met Thia, a person I only met that morning on Twitter because she had won the contest too! Finally a person came out holding envelopes that consisted of the wristbands! We went in the venue and met these two other girls, Julia and Nanda. They too had won the contest. Nanda, being the extremely lucky one, saw Alfredo. DUDE I LOVE ALFREDO! When I went into the room, I wasn’t thinking, I was in awe. I smiled for the picture (I’m the tall one on the left) and watched the two oldies that had been in the picture go out. Moment of glory. Seeing his small, gorgeous, fair face and soft hair. I didn’t spaz or anything. I didn’t do anything. I was in SHOCK. Thank god i had the courage to ask him for a hug. I said thank you so much Justin, and he was like no problem. Did Justin Bieber really say that to me? Yes he did! We skipped out the room like maniacs, covering our mouths. As Sarah and I were waiting to go in the concert room, we couldn’t keep quiet. When we saw my sister, we couldn’t help but scream “WE HUGGED JUSTIN BIEBER!” Of course we got looks and attention from everyone. We watched the concert drooling over the OLLG performance. I was the OLLG btw. LOL JK. Sarah and I went home happy beliebers, believing that the cliche never say never is real. So guys, NEVER SAY NEVER! If you dream just big enough like me, things can happen. Even if it was just for 2 seconds. My dream came true. I had made a new years resolution list earlier in the year, one of the them being this. The one that seemed most impossible became possible. At 13, I achieved my life goal. See the rest here: It was the 20th of April (the concert was on the 23rd) and me,…
He’s come as a hippie, a cult leader and a nervous star with an audible inner monologue — so what will he do on Sunday night? By Jocelyn Vena, with reporting by Jim Cantiello Jim Carrey at the 2009 MTV Movie Awards Photo: Getty Images Jim Carrey’s appearances at the MTV Movie Awards are the stuff of legend. Who could forget the time he showed up dressed as a Jim Morrison-esque hippie when he won for Best Male Performance in 1999, drinking and smoking all night? The funnyman is back again this year, and supervising producer Jane Mun promises that this appearance will live up to Carrey’s rep for unpredictable hilarity. “Jim Carrey is the most-nominated MTV Movie Awards star,” Mun shared with MTV News. “Jim Carrey always comes to play. And he will be playing this Sunday!” The actor would only give some outlandish hints about what he’d be wearing for his latest appearance. “I’m wearing a suit that I’ve had made,” he told us. “It’s the latest in nanotechnology, so I’m able to project whatever I want on it.” Carrey and the Movie Awards go way back. He won his first prize back in 1995, Best Kiss for smooching Lauren Holly in “Dumb and Dumber.” In 2006, when he won the Generation Award , he donned a cultish white gown and was followed by dozens of people dressed as angels as he accepted his award from Will Ferrell, who called the star “brilliant” and a “talented son of a bitch” thanks to his versatility in the world of film. Carrey joked of his rank as the biggest winner of all time. “Why am I so blessed?” he asked onstage that year. “Why is my life so miraculous? Why do so many struggle with fame while I’m able to float effortlessly on the upper edges of the Hollywood status-phere? You like that word ‘status-phere’? I made it up last night. I made up a word.” When he won for Best Comedic Performance in 2009 for “Yes Man,” he “accidentally” shared his inner monologue instead of a planned speech. “I was choking in front of the world … in front of the good-looking kid from ‘Twilight.’ ” So, what exactly will Carrey be up to when he takes the stage this year? Mun teased, “He is going to be dressed to the nines with something else.” While there are many folks lined up to present at the show, Carrey is bound to be a highlight of the evening. Other attendees include Emma Stone, Generation Award winner Reese Witherspoon, Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, Selena Gomez, Cameron Diaz, Leighton Meester, Katie Cassidy, Shia LaBeouf, Patrick Dempsey and Josh Duhamel, and many more. Cameron Crowe-directed retrospective set to premiere in September. By James Montgomery, with reporting by Sasha Hamrogue Pearl Jam’s Eddie Vedder Photo: Michel Linssen/ Redferns On October 22, 1990, Mookie Blaylock played their first official show at the Off Ramp Cafe in Seattle. Rock historians would come to imbue this event with understandable import: After all, Mookie Blaylock would go on to become Pearl Jam, one of the most important rock outfits of the past two decades. And now, with the 20th anniversary of that debut show on the horizon, the members of Pearl Jam are looking back for the first time in their careers — and they still can’t believe they’ve made it this far. Luckily, they’ve got Cameron Crowe to help them remember their journey from Seattle mid-carders to one of the biggest acts on the planet. He’s directed a documentary called, appropriately enough, “Pearl Jam Twenty,” that culls through more than 1,200 hours of rare footage — plus 24 hours of recently shot interviews — to provide a definitive look at the band’s legendary career. The film is reportedly set to premiere in September — though, on Monday, PBS announced it would broadcast it in October as part of its “American Masters” series — meaning that, at long last, guitarist Mike McCready, one of Pearl Jam’s founding members, is being forced to come to terms with his band’s own mortality. “Yeah, it all went very quickly,” he said, laughing. “There were many highs and lows throughout our career, and many arcs of creativity [and] tragedies … that run the whole gamut of human emotions, being in this. From being in a band with guys for 20 years, and having fights and making up, and being brothers in a way, looking out for each other.” And part of what appeals to McCready about Crowe’s film is that it somehow manages to tie all of those things together into one cohesive and comprehensive work — one that had even the longtime guitarist getting a bit nostalgic. “When I saw the early … edits of it, I thought it was very interesting and kind of exciting and, like I said, it runs the gamut of all those emotions,” he explained. “And it actually put in some sort of musical perspective the past 20 years, like, ‘Oh yeah, we did do that, we did do this’: the Ticketmaster thing , there was Roskilde , there were all these issues, and there were these great highs and interesting beginnings. The story it tells is: Why did it work, and why does it still? It made more sense when I saw the movie.” But “Twenty” isn’t the only thing Pearl Jam have in store for fans to commemorate the occasion: They’ve also announced plans for a Labor Day weekend concert alongside the likes of the Strokes, Queens of the Stone Age and Mudhoney, and, as McCready hinted, there might even be some new music on the way. Or maybe not. After all, all this nostalgia takes up a lot of time. “Jeff [Ament] and Ed [Vedder] were really wanting to do more music in the terms of, ‘It’s our 20th anniversary. Let’s celebrate that, but let’s also do some new music,’ and we’re all into that,” McCready said. “So, you may see some new music, you may not. I know we’re going to record some new music this year; it may not be finished by the end of the year.” Are you excited to see the Pearl Jam documentary? Tell us below! Related Artists Pearl Jam
