Exclusive: Judd Apatow Talks ‘Anchorman 2’ Dream Cameos

‘Now is the moment where Adam McKay and Will Ferrell disappear into a small room and write it,’ producer tells MTV News. By Amy Wilkinson Judd Apatow Photo: MTV News In grand, mustachioed style, Will Ferrell made a surprise appearance on “Conan” last week to announce the long-awaited sequel to his 2004 hit comedy “Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy.” But before San Diego’s favorite newsman can indulge in the scotchy scotch scotch, there’s a lot of work to be done, according to producer Judd Apatow. “Now is the moment where Adam McKay and Will Ferrell disappear into a small room and write it,” he told MTV News on Wednesday at the red-carpet premiere of HBO’s new series “Girls,” which he also executive produces. “So I’m as excited as anybody to hear what they want to do this time.” (MTV Movies blog has plenty of plot ideas if you need help, guys!) Given that the first flick featured an array of quirky cameos — including Luke Wilson, Vince Vaughn, Ben Stiller and Jack Black — it stands to reason that a few unexpected famous faces may appear alongside stars Ferrell, Paul Rudd and Steve Carell. So who are Apatow and co. eyeing? “All our dream cameos are actual anchormen,” he said. “So who knows?” Well, it just so happens Apatow has a connection to one well-regarded newsman: “Girls” actress Allison Williams’ dad, “NBC Nightly News” anchor Brian Williams. But what would it take to see the anchor don a polyester suit and poke fun at his life’s work? “If he kisses my butt enough tonight, who knows?” Apatow joked. Production on “Anchorman 2” is slated to begin February 2013, according to a tweet from McKay. Edward Norton’s Fiance in a Bikini of the Day

Edward Norton is marrying some troll looking bitch, who happens to be a high school dropout from Canada, she also happens to be a movie producer involved with Judd Apatow, who’s best joke has been that he’s managed to pull this runnin’ comedy scam, when I’ve seen him do stand-up and he fucking sucked….and according the Wikipedia, Apatow pretty much states that she is the reason for anything good in his shitty fucking movies: Apatow has called her “the rare woman who always wants to take the joke farther than any man wants to go. All nudity in my films is a result of Shauna pushing me and calling me a wimp.” I should send her the script for my biopic. I always figure I’m one mainstream movie away from being relevant…. Here she is one step closer to being relevant cuz she got in a bikini….a bikinis, despite career, education, or even looks always puts a bitch on the map, even when I think she’s got the hottest personality Edward Norton has met, cuz last I checked, every single bitch in the world would marry Ed Norton even if just for his fame, money and lifestyle….ending up with this is a bit of a disservice to his dick….Let’s hope she lets him cheat thanks to an awareness of her shortcomings….that are directly related to his short cumming. Good. One.

‘Knocked Up’ Spin-Off News Surprised Seth Rogen

‘I just read about it just like everybody else,’ original star tells MTV News. ‘I was like, ‘Oh man, it looks like it’s really happening.’ ‘ By Eric Ditzian Katherine Heigl and Seth Rogen in “Knocked Up” Photo: Suzanne Hanover/ Universal Studios Much like “16 and Pregnant” gave birth to “Teen Mom,” it seemed as though if Judd Apatow were ever to return to the world of “Knocked Up,” his hit 2007 comedy, the writer/director would continue the story with more about Seth Rogen and Katherine Heigl’s characters and the child they had together. But that’s not what’s happening — not least of all because of the messy public backbiting between Apatow and Heigl over her character, Alison. Instead, Apatow is pushing forward with an extension of that world featuring Alison’s sister, Debbie (Leslie Mann), and brother-in-law, Pete (Paul Rudd). The film will apparently tell a story separate from the one told in “Knocked Up,” a story that simply focuses on Debbie and Pete’s troubled marriage. Still, the question remains: Will Heigl or Rogen pop up at any point in the new film? MTV News put that very question to Rogen when we caught up with him while he was promoting “Green Hornet.” “I don’t know,” he admitted. Rogen went on to explain that he had some knowledge that Apatow was working on “Knocked Up”-related material, but neither knew a project was locked in or if there’s a part in the script for him. “[Judd] mentioned it to me off-handedly a year ago, and then I just read about it just like everybody else,” Rogen explained. “I was like, ‘Oh man, it looks like it’s really happening.’ “So, I don’t know,” he added. “I’m going to call him today and see what the deal is.” Check out everything we’ve got on “Knocked Up.” For breaking news, celebrity columns, humor and more — updated around the clock — visit MTVMoviesBlog.com .

Paul Rudd Won’t Appear In Jason Segel’s ‘Muppet’ Movie

‘I wish that I was. It’s all rumor,’ star tells MTV News. By Mawuse Ziegbe, with reporting by Josh Horowitz Paul Rudd Photo: MTV News With Jason Segel helming a spankin’ new “Muppet” flick , fans have been buzzing that many of the funnyman’s guffaw-inducing pals would show up for the fun. One story that has been making the rounds was that Segel’s “I Love You, Man” co-star Paul Rudd was slated to appear as an iPhone-obsessed puppet pal of Segel’s character. However, when MTV News caught up with Rudd recently, the star crushed the collective dreams of Judd Apatow acolytes everywhere, explaining that a cameo alongside Kermit’s crew is just not in the cards right now. “I wish that I was. It’s all rumor,” Rudd confided at the Gotham Awards last week. “I wanted to be in it, and I talked to Jason but I think there was some things that happened and I don’t know if I’m gonna get to do it.” As many would be, he’s totally torn up about missing out on the Muppet-fest. “It blows actually,” he pouted playfully. “It really sucks.” Up next, fans can catch Rudd alongside Jennifer Aniston as a broke couple that decide to take up residence at a commune in the Apatow-helmed “Wanderlust.” But after that, Rudd quipped that he wanted another crack at the Muppet franchise, and even came up with a few inspired titles for a sequel to Segel’s project. “I’m hoping for the ‘Muppet Movie 2.’ I’m playing Charles Grodin in ‘Muppet 2: Electric Waterloo?’ Beaker-loo?” he joked, before offering a truly game-changing suggestion: “Muppet Movie 2: The Muppets Are Still Taking Manhattan.” Even with Rudd officially out the mix, the confirmed lineup of guest stars should pack the film with plenty of laughs. Jack Black, Zach Galifianakis, Billy Crystal and Alan Arkin are all slated to appear in the project. On DVD: Singular Mystery Team Dares to Break Comedy Ranks

Comedy, because it’s best as a shared phenomenon, like music, is considered successful when you thrum the wires that get almost everybody laughing. But that can lead to a homogenization, a chortle-sausage approach — and if you’re familiar Chevy Chase’s career, even at its prime, you’ve seen the assembly line. Much as I can still get a rise out of the Apatow Paradigm, it’s already waning, a joke told 10 times. What’s needed are movies with no precedent, that reek of slightly deranged ideas and dare to amuse only of some of us — the odder few and far between. Mystery Team certainly fits.
