‘Empire’ Recap: The Lyons Get Sweet Revenge But Face New Trouble

See the original post:

Source: FOX / Getty The fall finale of Empire begins with a bleak reminder that Andre is in the hospital and he’s not doing well. He’s being heavily sedated so that doctors can clear the drugs, prescribed by his bum psychiatrist, from his system, and they won’t know whether he’ll sustain permanent brain damage or not. That being said, Cookie and Lucious are about that revenge life, and they plan to do it at Diana’s upcoming Captain’s Ball. Diana Dubois is so shook about the Lyons messing up her event that she makes sure all the security is as tight as possible. She even has the wait staff and bathroom attendants vetted. Angelo brings up a great point, maybe she shouldn’t be having the ball at all given the fact that the war between these two families is so hot. She thinks the show must go on and that her security is airtight, but we all know the Lyon Clan always finds a way, especially with Thirsty on their side. Warren pays Jamal a visit and manages to get up to his apartment by giving the doorman $10,000 in cash to let him up. That would be the $10,000 that his aunt gave him to skip town. He makes sure Jamal knows this and that he genuinely does love him. He also has something to tell Jamal that his family should know. Jamal tells him to get to stepping, but not before asking what it is he needs to tell him, and then we cut to commercial. via GIPHY Cookie and Lucious manage to infiltrate Angelo’s transportation to the ball. They get him to a secluded area and Lucious requests that he sign a confession that his mother kidnapped Bella and orchestrated the plan to take Bella away from Hakim. Angelo refuses, especially because if he signs it under duress it won’t be admissible in court. Then Angelo makes a sexually suggestive comment about Cookie and Lucious drops the nice guy shtick. No really, he snaps pistol whips Angelo with one ultimatum: either he signs it or his mama’s brains can be on it. Angelo signs it then they head to the ball to make a spectacle. Cookie and Lucious force Angelo to get them into the ball and Diana is disturbed when she sees Angelo showing up looking like: Next thing you know, Lucious and Cookie are on the floor doing the tango. Diana tries to have security get them out, but Angelo tells her not to make a scene. Turns out, they snuck in through the orchestra, the only facet of the ball that wasn’t pre-vetted. Bourgious Diana messed up by assuming the Lyons would be too ghetto to know anything about classical music. Hakeem and Jamal take the stage to perform their diss track, but not before dedicating the song to Dre, and putting it on blast that Diana has put him in the hospital. Once the song is over, the crowd is standing there looking like: via GIPHY Then Cookie gets on stage to welcome everyone to the Captain’s Ball and she throws to a video of Diana’s nephew Warren making a confession. Diana is trying to have everything shut down but the Lyons have control of all of the technology. The only thing that makes her feel better is that police are on the way. Back to Warren, though. Warren reveals that Diana is one of the most disgusting people he has ever known and that she kidnapped Bella. Angelo gets irate and tells his mother that he’s going to find Warren and “put him down like the rabid dog he is.” Then they put the doctor on blast that prescribed Dre psychosis-inducing drugs (at Diana’s request) and divulges all of the details of Diana’s plan. Basically, Cookie tugs at the heartstrings saying that her sons might be messy, but they did not deserve to be treated the way they did and she finally wins the crowd over. Diana is just standing there stuck on stupid, but also rage. via GIPHY Now we cut to Anika who has run upstairs to pack her bags. Her plan is to leave town with Anika. Then Hakim shows up with another release that she needs to sign. Basically, they have videotapes of Anika with Bella when Bella was supposed to be missing, which would make her an accessory to kidnapping. Anika breaks down in tears, talking about how she can’t go back to jail and we definitely don’t feel sorry for her. Hakim gets her to sign the release and still remains civil through it all despite Anika being a c-u- next-Tuesday. He knows what it’s like to grow up without a mother and wants Amika to be part of Bella’s life under the condition that she no longer uses Bella to hurt him. He says he’s going to keep the tapes indefinitely since there’s no statute on them but he won’t show them to authorities so long as she behaves. Back at the ball, Diana starts hurling smug insults at the Lyon family and she really thinks she’s good until the police come and surprise her by taking her away for kidnapping Bella. Next, Jamal walks in on Angelo about to shoot Warren. Angelo, after having seen Jamal, now plans to set it up like a lovers quarrel where Jamal kills Warren and then himself, but Jamal rushes him. Angelo shoots Warren, but Jamal and Angelo continue to struggle until Angelo is shot dead. Warren is still conscious and says he was shot in the shoulder and Jamal is freaking out. However, he at least calls the police instead of tampering with the crime scene and making things worse, but we’ll have to hold indefinitely before finding out what happens with that situation. Lucious pays Dre a visit to inform him that he got revenge and that they need Dre to come back. Dre kinda comes back to consciousness and says, “Pop I tried to kill you.” That’s when a nurse whose face we don’t see injects Lucious with something that knocks him out. Later on we find out that it’s Claudia, obvi. Basically, she has him chained up in a cabin, tells him she missed him and is really on her Misery steez. And now we have to wait until March to find out what happens next. The preview looked juicy though. ‘Empire’ Recap: Andre Makes A Heartbreaking Discovery About Pam ‘Empire’ Recap: Jamal Lyon Channels Old School Lucious And Beats The Breaks Off His Boyfriend

No Shame: Sofia Vergara On Stereotypical Roles, “I’m Grateful… The Gringoes Let Me In With This Strong Accent”

Sofia Vergara Shuns Stereotype Fears Claiming She Bases Characters On Real Family Members If you’re waiting for Sofia Vergara to start shedding her thick Colombian accent and rejecting stereotypical roles — don’t hold your breath. In an interview with HOLA today she said her “Modern Family” character is based on her experiences with her mom and aunt and she feels gratitude for being able to find work despite her heavy accent. Via US Weekly: “What’s wrong with being a stereotype?” she responded when Hola! USA asked about fans who criticize her Latina character as playing into stereotypes. “Gloria’s character is inspired by my mom and my aunt. They are both Latin women who grew up in Colombia, like me. They love color, prints and shoes. … It upsets me when Latinos complain about Gloria. I am grateful for the opportunity because the gringos have let me in with this strong accent I have. Eight years ago nobody had an accent like this on television.” What do you think about Vergara’s perspective on the subject? We can see on one hand how it can be a good thing that she can find work, the issue is when non-Latinos meet Latina women and expect them ALL to be just like Gloria. Another quote we found interesting was that Vergara was hesitant to bring any men into her home until her son Manolo (who is 24) left for college: “Partly because I hadn’t found the right person and I knew that if I moved in with someone, it would have a psychological effect on my son,” she said. “I wasn’t going to bring a man into my son’s home. I think that’s why I always wanted long-distance relationships, with men in other countries.” Do you think she did the right thing? WENN

Rob Kardashian Shares Makeup-Free Pic of Blac Chyna

They’re totally in L. Rob Kardashian Instagrammed a makeup-free photo of his girlfriend, Blac Chyna.   May we just say how fantastic she looks?  The hair is freely flowing, the face is fresh.  Even Kardashian captioned the photo with “Young.” Kardashian joined Chyna on a work trip to Jamaica over the weekend, where she was booked for a March 13th appearance in Montega Bay.  They landed in Los Angeles last night and no one could help but notice how trim Kardashian looked. The internet kind of went bats–t after Chyna shared an Instagram selfie of what may or may not have been a baby bump .  Odds are it’s not a Kardashian fetus, and everyone needs four more hours of sleep each night.  However, the girl knows how to keep people talking. According to TMZ , Kardashian (who turns 29 on March 17th) was at Chyna’s club appearance , but kept a low profile in a black shirt and matching shorts.  Chyna reportedly held a “booty popping clinic” for the clubgoers and Kardashian.   “They both looked happy, but showed no signs of affection,” an onlooker at the club told Us Weekly . They were plagued by break-up rumors a few weeks ago, which prompted Kardashian to send a note to fans via Instagram. “We just feel like it would be a lot healthier for our relationship if we kept a lot more to ourselves,” he wrote.

Kody Brown: Accused of FAKING Sister Wives Drama For Ratings!

Krysten Decker, the aunt of Sister Wives star Christine Brown, has been speaking to the press all week, and it seems Kody Brown and company are not happy about it. Yesterday, Decker claimed that  Christine Brown is “miserable”  in her polygamous lifestyle and is in no way in love with Kody. Now, in an interview that could be even more damaging to the family and its reputation, Decker has claimed that the show is a sham. That’s right. According to her, most if not all of the drama fans of the show have enjoyed for the past six seasons is almost entirely fake. The series’ central storylines often focus on the dubious legality of their lifestyle and their efforts to stay one step ahead of the authorities. Speaking with Radar Online, Decker says that’s all nonsense , and the Browns have never been forced to move in order to escape the law. “They talked about moving to Las Vegas [to escape Utah’s anti-polygamy laws] long before they did,” she claims. “That was their plan and they used the State [of Utah supposedly, legally] coming after them for ratings.” “That’s my strong opinion.” Decker says she’s been ostracized by Christine Brown and the rest of her Church of Latter-Day Saints community due to her controversial decision to leave her husband and abandon the fundamentalist lifestyle. She did so because she feels it subjugates and oppresses women. “My leaving definitely had to do with [my husband’s behavior], but it was all the harms I saw around me,” she says. “I left polygamy before I left my husband.” Decker says her appearance on the show was edited to turn her into a sort of antagonist for the famous TLC family. As a result, she wishes she had never become involved with Kody and his decision to take part in a reality series: “I really regret being on the show…[After] I was devastated, I cried,” she lamented to the celebrity news website. “Christine tried to make me out to be a mean person who didn’t believe in choice, either traditional or religious.” “You can’t actually have a choice if you live under polygamy. If you chose not to do it, there is a penalty.” Decker says Christine has cut off all her contact with her, and she often wonders if she’ll ever again have a chance to speak with her niece. Sorry, Not Sorry: Tyler Perry Claps Back At Critics Who Say His Films Reinforce Black Stereotypes

Tyler Perry Responds To Criticism About His Stereotypical Films Tyler Perry has long been criticized for portrayal on African-American in his films and TV shows. Many feel like a Tyler Perry production is akin to a millennium minstrel show that has brought embarrassment and shame to the black community. Writer Rembert Browne penned a piece in Vulture where Perry addressed those who have decried his work as pure f***ery. Including the writer himself… I was suddenly hit with the reality that I would need to be honest with Perry. I knew I had been wrong about him, to some degree, and I wanted him to know that. But I’d also have to tell him that I spent years disliking him and his work, thinking his characters were negatively affecting me as a black person in a white world. That I knew black people were often judged by what people saw or heard, more than what they knew. That I felt black people were often collectively judged by their perceived failures instead of their perceived successes — the latter of which have long been treated as exceptions. That I knew research existed that analyzed the complicated relationships black people have with the images we see of ourselves on the screen, telling us that those images can inspire, but they can also cause great anxiety. That some black people took black characters merely as “entertainment,” but others saw them as images that they needed to instill racial pride, strengthen racial identity, counter racism, and be role models. A decade of thoughts about Tyler Perry ran through my mind in that moment, and even if he’d made me laugh in Brooklyn, I thought I owed it to him — and myself — to say that, for years, when he was the foremost black person presenting black characters and telling black stories, I thought Tyler Perry’s films and shows made my life harder. “So did a lot of people,” Perry said, calmly, after I told him how I’d felt. “Which is surprising to me. Let me tell you what took me aback about that, when people were like, ‘How dare you put fat black people on television, these are caricatures, these are stereotypes’ — I was so offended because my aunt’s fat. My mother’s fat. My cousins are fat. People who are like, ‘How dare you — these harken back to Mammy, Amos ’n’ Andy.’ I would hear all these things, and I would go, hmmm.” When Amos ’n’ Andy is mentioned, it’s usually code for minstrelsy, but Perry disagrees. In fact, he thinks the real shame was not that black actors played roles on Amos ’n’ Andy, but what happened to them later, when they lost work after the NAACP boycotted the TV show and it was canceled. It comes down to the question of who gets to decide what’s good for black people. Should all kinds of blackness be shown, or should its representation be curated? To Perry, no one should have the authority to make that call. To others, however, there is a clear line between what’s good for “us” and what isn’t. Much of the backdrop of the intellectual debates between scholars like Booker T. Washington and W.E.B. DuBois came down to this, too, whether good fortune and success is dependent on some approval from whites, as well as on using a group of select blacks to represent the whole. We’re a century removed from those thinkers — but in some ways, we’re still debating those ideas, and Tyler Perry’s work is at the center of it. We highly suggest that you read the whole piece HERE .
