We’ve all seen the sort of muscles Lutz can rock , but will he be overmatched in this showdown? Watch now and prepare for the November 16 release… Breaking Dawn Part 2 Clip
Though The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn director Bill Condon was absent this year from Comic-Con , (he was off finishing the November release but pre-taped tidings), he sent in his stead stars Kristen Stewart, Robert Pattinson, and Taylor Lautner, over two dozen cast members, Stephenie Meyer, and new footage for the thousands of attendees in Hall H Thursday morning that included a slew of fan-pleasing moments – Bella Swan devouring a mountain lion among them. But while Breaking Dawn ’s bright, well-paced clips (including the first seven minutes of the film) impressed, a surprise screening of footage from The Host – Meyer’s other fantasy-sci-fi-romance YA lit adaptation –confused viewers, indicating an uphill battle ahead for distributor Open Road. The good news for Summit is that sharing the first seven minutes of Breaking Dawn – beginning with newly turned Bella (Kristen Stewart) awakening into her bright new vampire future – was a smart move; not only did it drive fans into a tizzy, it highlighted how the Saga and its heroine have matured since previous installments. For starters, Breaking Dawn Part 2 boasts a new and improved Bella – strong, sensual, and utterly confident. No longer the self-conscious, maladroit teenager who spent much of the previous four films worrying/being rescued by/pining over her vampire beau Edward Cullen, Bella awakens at the start of Breaking Dawn Part 2 in full vampire mode (and very, very hungry). Condon speeds adeptly through her initial adjustment at a brisk pace, allowing for a few generous moments of languorous caresses and canoodling with Edward, who coos, “We’re the same temperature now.” (Cue collective Hall H swoon.) Suspense kicks in on Bella’s first hunt; she’s tempted by the delicious whiff of a lone mountain climber, but stops herself in time, instead finding her first meal in an unlucky mountain lion. Returning home with a proud Edward, she encounters old bestie/third wheel Jacob Black (Taylor Lautner), but he’s changed, too; “imprinting” on your crush’s infant will do that to a guy. Onetime rivals Jacob and Edward even have a moment together as Bella heads in to meet her newborn daughter for the first time, unaware of what’s transpired while she’s been vampirizing. And thus ends the first seven minutes of the film , which are gorgeously photographed, to boot. A second clip showcased what a difference Condon’s made with his actors. Having been rendered at times cardboard-like by other directors, the cast comes alive, so to speak, in a scene in which the Cullen family teaches Bella how to pass as a human now that super strength and speed – not to mention not having to breathe or blink anymore – have turned her into a blood-sucking bull in a china shop. Stewart in particular shows off her comic side, playing Bella’s preternatural mannerisms with a nuanced sense of humor. She’s matured as a performer, but more to the point, Vampire Bella is simply a better fit for her talents – bold, feline, and assured, she’s the antithesis of Twilight’s Bella Swan, which is really the point of Breaking Dawn and the end game that many critics of the character didn’t grasp with previous sequels. Vampire Bella is who Bella Swan was born to become, and Breaking Dawn ’s final Comic-Con visit drove that point home. Less successful, however, was the clip package presented by surprise guest Andrew Niccol, who’d only recently wrapped filming on the sci-fi adaptation. Based on Meyer’s Twilight follow-up novel, The Host stars Saoirse Ronan as a human named Melanie Stryder in an alternate future in which alien body-snatchers have taken over the majority of the world, possessing their human hosts while attempting to squeeze out the last remaining pockets of resistance. Ronan plays both Stryder and her alien “soul,” Wanderer, who now dominates the body they share. Still following? The Host footage opens as Wanderer awakens in Melanie’s body – glowing blue eyes indicate the converted Ronan, who’s tasked with ferreting out information from Melanie’s memories (including one watery make-out flashback between Ronan and Max Irons’ Jared, shot like a Nicholas Sparks romance). But Melanie’s spirit is so strong she’s still inside her own brain, shouting at her alien parasite via interior monologue. That all works better than it sounds, but then comes the complicated plot to muddle things up as Wanderer is captured by humans. By the time the reel ended with a car chase and stand-off between two rebel-driven trucks and their alien overlords, the crowd had grown restless, pouring disinterestedly out of Hall H. And all without even touching on film’s love quadrangle between Melanie, Wanderer, and their dueling boyfriends! So suffice to say there’s a steep Host learning curve the studio needs to address for non-fans of the book ahead of the film’s March 2013 release. Niccol creates a clear-enough dystopian world onscreen (earthy Western-like settings for the human resistance, sleek high-tech trappings for the aliens), but none of that will matter if audiences don’t understand what the heck they’re looking at. “After 18 years of being utterly ordinary, I finally found I could shine.” Twilight ‘s Bella Swan has gotten a lot of flack for her penchant for passive pouting and agonizing over boys, but in Breaking Dawn Part 2 she finally comes into her own, a fully fledged vampiress possessing newfound confidence and strength. Hey, having a monster baby will do incredible things to a girl. You know this. You watch Teen Mom . See Kristen Stewart come alive — so to speak — in the full teaser trailer. Twilight fans need to hear just one word to understand why this rather standard-looking pillow is going for thousands on Ebay: “Feathers.” Yes, that’s right — the prop pillow that Edward Cullen shredded during his in flagrante honeymoon sexing with Bella Swan in The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 1 is up for auction by the prop reseller Hollywood Parts, which guarantees the authenticity of the item with this lovely detail: “Make up stains from the main actors can be seen on the pillow.” ( Butter-colored , I presume?) Somehow it’s still available for the low, low Buy It Now price of $2,999.99. And I thought shoes from the future were a good investment… [ eBay via Examiner ]
On this day in the year 1990, Kristen Jaymes Stewart was born in Los Angeles to a script supervisor mother and father who works in television. Who’d have guessed that she’d grow up to become the highest earning actress in Hollywood before she was old enough to drink? Thanks to the Twilight films, Stewart’s star rose in the blink of an eye (okay, four years and soon to be five movies), but she also deserves credit for racking up indie cred between bouts of vampire swooning. On the occasion of her 22nd birthday — and with 22 features to her name to date — let’s name Stewart’s finest onscreen moment. Stewart began her career with a few uncredited appearances in kids flicks ( The Flintstones in Viva Rock Vegas , anyone?) before launching a steady stream of child acting roles ( Catch That Kid , Panic Room , Cold Creek Manor ). By her early teens she was already balancing indie dramas with mainstream films ( Catch That Kid and Undertow in 2004; Fierce People and Zathura in 2005), continuing to keep a foot in both worlds even after 2008’s Twilight . Over the years she’s robbed a bank, adventured through space, battled a debilitating neurological disease, rocked out as Joan Jett, and hooked the mean streets of New Orleans; played daughter to Jodie Foster , Dennis Quaid , Robert De Niro , Meg Ryan , and Diane Lane ; and romanced Jesse Eisenberg , Emile Hirsch , Jamie Bell , Adam Brody , Eddie Redmayne , and, of course, Robert Pattinson . (This year she’ll be seen Snow White and the Huntsman , On the Road , and the franchise-ender The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 2 .) But reach back to 2001 and you’ll find fine work from an 11-year-old Stewart playing tomboy Sam in the ensemble indie The Safety of Objects . Rose Troche’s suburban drama featured a natural, instinctive turn from Stewart, who shared scenes with Patricia Clarkson and Timothy Olyphant a full year before mainstream audiences saw her in Panic Room . Watch little Kristen Stewart below and chime in below.
Harry, Ron and Hermione make ‘Twilight’ debut in the off-Broadway parody. By Amy Wilkinson The cast of “Twilight: The Musical” Photo: Dreamcatcher Entertainment NEW YORK — When “Dreamgirls” helmer Bill Condon took over direction of “The Twilight Saga,” more than a few cheeky journalists wondered if he’d treat fans to a bloodsucking song-and-dance extravaganza. Alas, vogueing Volturi weren’t meant to be — at least on the big screen. They have, however, found a temporary home on the New York City stage in the form of ” Twilight: The Musical .” The off-Broadway parody production premiered Monday night at the New World Stages, raising money for the charity Blessings in a Backpack. Written by Ashley Griffin and directed by Gabriel Barre, “Twilight: The Musical” is, for now, staged as a concert reading, meaning that the actors hold scripts throughout the show. But the cheat sheets did little to diminish the enthusiasm of the oft-hilarious production. A group of eight actors play more than 30 roles, with some pulling quadruple and even quintuple duty (such as standouts Lauren Lopez and Jenna Leigh Green). With her bobbing ponytail, zip-up hoodie, skinny jeans and sullen expression, Meghann Fahy (“Next to Normal”) is a dead ringer for Bella Swan (or, at the very least, Kristen Stewart’s portrayal of Bella Swan), while “Wicked” actor Colin Hanlon looks perfectly pained as Edward Cullen. Jared Zirilli (“Wicked”) spends the entire second act shirtless, portraying Jacob with the kind of earnestness that’s made Taylor Lautner the object of many a teen’s fever dreams. The show opens much as the “Twilight” movie does, with Bella’s monologue about her impending death followed by the cafeteria scene and the upbeat track “Looking for Something.” (Sample lyrics: “I think I see a Fork stuck in my road,” “We’re standing on the twilight of something good.”) The first act hems closely with its source material, including all the requisite scenes: Edward’s biology class freak-out, Bella’s car accident and the bookstore gang-up. Much of the dialogue comes straight from screenwriter Melissa Rosenberg’s script, too, albeit with much-welcomed embellishments. (Charlie to Bella: “I know it’s awkward starting in the middle of a semester, so I got you a truck!”) But things take a canon-twisting turn about two-thirds of the way through the first act when Hermione, Ron and Harry show up. Yes, someone got “Harry Potter” in our “Twilight.” Instead of Victoria, James and Laurent, Hogwarts’ finest play the villains here. The meta levels reach 11 when the wizards mistakes Edward for Cedric Diggory. And so it is that Ron tracks Bella down in her old ballet studio and is done in by the Cullen coven, leaving Hermione to avenge the death of her beloved. The first act closes on Bella’s birthday — the surprisingly bloody scene from “New Moon.” The second act opens with a freshly shorn Jacob (his wig somehow even mangier than Lautner’s) singing with his pack. From there, the production speeds through the last three books of Meyer’s series, compressing much of the story in favor of cramming it all in. Despite the odd pacing, the production sang thanks to details only a true fanatic could relish. Edward’s sparkling-in-the-sun effect is achieved with a glittery bodysuit hidden underneath the actor’s button-down like Superman’s spandex. The iconic apple from the book’s cover hangs limply (and obviously) from a springing wire gizmo as Edward tries to suavely hand it to Bella. Not to mention the actors muster plenty of fourth-wall-breaking furtive glances, letting the audience know they are in on the joke. But the tongue-in-cheek vibe is abandoned late in the second act for a sobering bit of moralizing from Harry, who comes to Bella in a dream sequence asking if it was all worth it. “You were willing to sacrifice everything to get a boyfriend,” he says. “In the end, you destroyed yourself.” Point taken, Harry Potter. But what a buzzkill. If you weren’t able to make the one-night-only charity benefit, don’t fret: Work is being done to bring the production to the New York stage for good.
Also, Alfred Angelo’s official replica of the designer’s ‘Twilight’ dress is available nationwide for $799. By Rob Markman Alfred Angelo’s replica of Bella Swan’s dress from “Breaking Dawn” Photo: Alfred Angelo You too can look like Bella Swan on her wedding day now that the official replica of the elegant gown Kristen Stewart wore in “The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 1” is available in stores. The Carolina Herrera-designed dress that Stewart wore when she and Robert Pattinson traded vows onscreen arrived in stores on Monday, priced at $799, according to The Wall Street Journal . In addition to the movie’s much ballyhooed sex scene , fans eagerly anticipated the wedding scene, where Bella donned the glorious long-sleeve lace bridal gown. Though the film’s version of the dress was designed by Herrera, bridal retailer Alfred Angelo handled the replication and has been working with Summit Entertainment since May to get the item in stores in time for the film’s premiere. The dresses are available at Alfred Angelo stores nationwide. During our “MTV First: Breaking Dawn” live stream earlier this month, Stewart, flanked by co-stars Robert Pattinson and Taylor Lautner , described the fantasy nuptials as “realistically ceremonial” and “very, very emotional.” She even kept the dress a secret from her castmates, except for Pattinson, who caught a sneak peek, much to her dismay. “Nobody saw it until I walked out, which made me so …,” Stewart said, struggling for the right word. “It wasn’t about the dress, it was just everything involved. I was like, ugh, so very the center of attention at that very moment.” Herrera’s original design was, of course, inspired by the book. “I was called by Stephenie Meyer. We had to discuss a lot, but I was very inspired by her book and the description of the wedding,” Herrera said at the film’s premiere. “I was very flattered I was asked to do it; it’s a big scene for me.” Though she made the dress for Stewart, a big-time actress in one of the highest-grossing films of the year , Herrera approached the design just as she would any other bride. “Wedding dresses are different, because you have to know that it’s the most important day in the life of a woman,” she said. “You have to please the bride first of all, and it has to be a secret. I cannot talk about the dress before the groom sees it. I treated [Kristen Stewart’s Bella] like every other bride,” she admitted. “I think [Stewart] was very moved when she tried it on. And that means a lot, because she felt that it was the right one.” Would you purchase a replica of Bella Swan’s wedding gown for your special day? Tell us in the comments! “The Twilight series challenges what I would call the ‘Buffy Summers Maxim’: that teen heroines be physically empowered, oftentimes at the expense of emotional clarity. Bella Swan diverges from many of our more recent teenaged female heroines. The ones who appear in films — the feisty Olive from Easy A , the quirky ironist Juno MacGuff — often seem to be written by thirtysomethings seemingly desperate to revisit high school to work some alchemical magic: turning the abjection of it all into a badge of indie cred. But even the more complicated female heroines of recent young adult fiction — Katniss Everdeen of The Hunger Games or Katsa of Graceling — embody a suspiciously pleasing, ’empowered’ form of female adolescence.” [ The Hairpin ]
Ashley Greene has been playing Alice, an unwaveringly supportive sisterly friend to Kristen Stewart ‘s Bella, since the beginning of the Twilight series. In Breaking Dawn — Part 1 the psychic Alice serves as wedding planner and all-around helpful vampire girl, but also faces a sudden inability to help Bella by seeing her future, or that of the child she’s carrying. Greene talked about Bella’s well-being, the nature of relationships and the film’s intense birth scene.
