Put On Blast: Rev. William Barber Masterfully Marinates Unseasoned Governor Bill Lee For Invoking MLK Jr. [Video]

Source: Earl Gibson III / Getty Rev. William Barber Puts Gov. Bill Lee On The Spot Over MLK Jr. Quote Each year on MLK day dusty buckets of expired imitation crab meat open their lie holes to spew quotes by Martin Luther King Jr. as if they actually know anything about the man outside of “non-violent”. This year, one such pachydermal politician, Tennessee Governor Bill Lee, got chin checked from the pulpit for quoting Dr. King while voting issues that are completely counter to what the civil rights leader believed in. The good folks who work for MSNBC’s All In with Chris Hayes put together this lil’ montage of the epic dragging. The ancestors would be proud. At :49 the good Reverend starts to shake his head because he knows where this is going and he knows what he’ll have to do in response. Glory be to God. That was beautiful.

Macy Gray’s New Song “White Man” Is Right On Time

Macy Gray is one of those artists who often gets overlooked until she releases a song you can’t ignore and you remember just how incredibly talented she is. Today, the five-time Grammy-nominated singer released a powerful anthem called “White Man” that pretty much sums up how most people of color feel living in Trump’s America right now. She sings in the first verse: Hey white man I am not my grandmother I’m from the city Canton, Ohio I’m just a lady but I think like a man You hating me and I don’t understand You judging me, you want to send me to hell God is my father and I got my band You come for me, let me make it clear [ madamenoire ] Should The Congressional Black Caucus Let An Afro-Latino Into Its Ranks? Should a Latino be allowed to join the Congressional Black Caucus? According to an article in last week’s Politico entitled “Black Caucus chafes at Latino who wants to join,” that’s the million dollar question currently being debated, albeit silently, by Caucus members on the Hill. The Latino in consideration is no other than (D-NY 13th District) Rep. Adriano Espaillat, who last November became the first Dominican-American elected to Congress. While he has not been formally asked to join the 47-year-old organization, he tells Politico writer Heather Caygle that he is currently in discussion with CBC leaders about the “pros and cons” of his potential membership. According to Caygle, more than a dozen CBC members and their aides were interviewed for the piece although very few of the CBC current leadership wanted to go on record, citing the “sensitivity” of the issue. Drake made the announcement at the Leeds, England stop in his Boy Meets World tour. “I’m excited because I’m about like a week and a half, two weeks away from finishing this project I’m working on called More Life,” he says in a fan captured video. “So you know what that means right? All that means is, I get to drop a new project, and at some point I get to come back and be with my people in Leeds one more motherf*cking time.” The playlist was originally set to drop last December, then it was pushed back to “early 2017.” Drake did not explicitly state when More Life would drop, but he did hint at a show in Amsterdam that it would be out by Feb. 28. Black Tea Party Member Allen West Peeves Off Black Caucus By Having Chick-Fil-A Delivered To Meeting

Allen West Orders Chick-Fil-A To Meeting Allen West and his tea party buddies aren’t going over well with their Chick-Fil-A support. The national Chick-fil-A controversy continued for members of the Congressional Black Caucus this week, as some members remembered when Rep. Allen West (R-Fla.) had chicken and biscuits from Chick-fil-A delivered to the group’s meeting. West, a black Tea Party Republican who supports the chain restaurant’s anti-marriage equality stance, brought the food into the meeting six months ago and then walked out. It was West’s turn to provide the group with a formal lunch that week. As the only Republican member of the CBC, West hasn’t attended a meeting since the Chick-fil-A delivery. Rep. Alcee Hastings (D-Fla.) said West’s move offended “every member” of the meeting. “This was an ‘in your face,’” Hastings told the Huffington Post. “He did it deliberately.” West’s delivery was fresh in Hastings’s mind because of recent comments he’d made in support of the fast food chain. Although several high profile members of the caucus support marriage equality, the group has struggled in the past with gay civil rights and black civil rights comparison. That’s an all-around d-bag move on West’s part. He sounds like an absolute jerk. We shouldn’t be surprised though. What a clown. Source

Reality is racist. Just so you know. Recently, the president gave a speech before the Congressional Black Caucus, and, as he is wont to do, he slipped into his “Hey-I’m-Black-Too” dialect. And, the Associated Press reported the actual words he used, as he used them: Stop complainin’. Stop grumblin’. Stop cryin’. For Discussion: Congressional Black Caucus Criticizes The Obama Administration’s Failure To Fix African American Unemployment

African-American unemployment is real, and the Congressional Black Caucus is not feelin the way Barry-O is handling the situation: Members of the Congressional Black Caucus on Thursday publicly accused the Obama administration of failing to adequately address a veritable epidemic of African American unemployment. “Can you imagine a situation where any other group of workers, if 34 percent of white women were out there looking for work and couldn’t find it?” asked Rep. Emanuel Cleaver, a Missouri Democrat and chairman of the caucus. “You would see congressional hearings and community gatherings. There would be rallies and protest marches. There is no way that this would be allowed to stand.” In May, the black unemployment rate was at 16.2 percent compared to 9.1 percent overall joblessness and 8 percent levels among white workers. In Milwaukee, Wis., a staggering 34 percent of black men are unemployed, CBS news reported. The Obama administration has focused on broad-based initiatives aimed at lowering unemployment in general, while declining to address elevated rates among minority groups. The administration unleashed an $800 billion package of spending measures aimed at stimulating economic growth, while extending unemployment benefits and increasing funding for community health centers. These programs are also sure to help black and Latino Americans hard hit by the recession, Obama said at a White House press conference in April. Debate about the ability of a universal job creation strategy to address persistent and disproportionate African American unemployment occupied a significant portion of Thursday’s gathering. So too did concerns about the political feasibility of any sort of effort to target black joblessness, the public’s appetite for programs that may look and sound like affirmative action and common assumptions about why so many black people do not have jobs. Black Americans make up about 12 percent of the nation’s population, but about 20 percent of the unemployed. “This is an American crisis that demands an American response at the highest echelons of our government,” said Michael Eric Dyson, a writer, Georgetown University professor and frequent social and political commentator on television and radio programs aimed at a black audiences. “And that does include the White House.” Discuss… Source

Did MSNBC Adjust Website in Response to Dallas Tea Party’s Criticism?

Is MSNBC concerned about charges of a lack of racial diversity among its on-air staff? Perhaps the cable network is realizing that its glass house is increasingly at risk of shattering from all the stones it keeps hurling at the allegedly-racist Tea Party movement. The folks at Inside Cable News noticed a slight change in the header at the MSNBC TV homepage. See if you can spot it in the picture at right. It shouldn’t be that hard; the folks at the cable network put Tamron Hall front and center in a bright pink shirt ( click here for a larger image of the new header). Did MSNBC add Hall in an effort to satiate critics who have pointed out the lack of racial diversity on the cable network? Though ICN notes the comical video produced by the Dallas Tea Party, the Congressional Black Caucus has also chided MSNBC for its lily-white staff. Many such critiques were directly aimed at Keith Olbermann, who suggested that Tea Party protesters were racist because only white people attended their rallies. “Where are they?” asked an overdramatic Olbermann. The Dallas Tea Party countered with its own video noting the on-air whiteness of NBC’s TV holdings. Other conservative commentators, such as blogger Broliath , created their own videos to a similar effect, noting that even the guests on “Countdown” were overwhelmingly white. And as mentioned above, even the Congressional Black Caucus weighed in . According to Main Justice, CBC member Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee, D-Texas, asked NBC president Jeff Zucker why there wasn’t “any black programming on NBC.” She added: “Is there some assumption that black programming is not profitable?” But is Hall’s conspicuous presence in the new website header — which was not present as late as April —  a response to MSNBC’s critics? Well, Zucker did tell Jackson Lee that “diversity was one of his strategic goals and that the company was trying to do better.” Furthermore, as ICN notes: …Hall’s inclusion with the “Heavy Hitters” of MSNBC is a bit strange. MSNBC has never before bothered to put any of its M-FR dayside news talent in with the ones that get all the attention. It’s not like Hall’s two hours are fundamentally different in either format or subject matter from what airs at 10, 12, or 3pm ET aside from the fact that they still have segments from inside the control room. So the question arises: Why put Hall up front and center, literally center in this case, with a picture that is fundamentally different from the subdued wardrobe theme that everyone else is sporting (which just about guarantees that Hall is the one you’re going to notice first because her picture sticks out so)? This is, after all, the same cable network whose on-air staff confused Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton .
