Macy Gray’s New Song “White Man” Is Right On Time

Macy Gray is one of those artists who often gets overlooked until she releases a song you can’t ignore and you remember just how incredibly talented she is. Today, the five-time Grammy-nominated singer released a powerful anthem called “White Man” that pretty much sums up how most people of color feel living in Trump’s America right now. She sings in the first verse: Hey white man I am not my grandmother I’m from the city Canton, Ohio I’m just a lady but I think like a man You hating me and I don’t understand You judging me, you want to send me to hell God is my father and I got my band You come for me, let me make it clear [ madamenoire ] Should The Congressional Black Caucus Let An Afro-Latino Into Its Ranks? Should a Latino be allowed to join the Congressional Black Caucus? According to an article in last week’s Politico entitled “Black Caucus chafes at Latino who wants to join,” that’s the million dollar question currently being debated, albeit silently, by Caucus members on the Hill. The Latino in consideration is no other than (D-NY 13th District) Rep. Adriano Espaillat, who last November became the first Dominican-American elected to Congress. While he has not been formally asked to join the 47-year-old organization, he tells Politico writer Heather Caygle that he is currently in discussion with CBC leaders about the “pros and cons” of his potential membership. According to Caygle, more than a dozen CBC members and their aides were interviewed for the piece although very few of the CBC current leadership wanted to go on record, citing the “sensitivity” of the issue. Drake made the announcement at the Leeds, England stop in his Boy Meets World tour. “I’m excited because I’m about like a week and a half, two weeks away from finishing this project I’m working on called More Life,” he says in a fan captured video. “So you know what that means right? All that means is, I get to drop a new project, and at some point I get to come back and be with my people in Leeds one more motherf*cking time.” The playlist was originally set to drop last December, then it was pushed back to “early 2017.” Drake did not explicitly state when More Life would drop, but he did hint at a show in Amsterdam that it would be out by Feb. 28. In the trailer for Prometheus , dick-of-the-moment Michael Fassbender is looking thoughtfully at his fingers and says “big things have small beginnings.” We get it. Prometheus is obviously a thinly veiled allegory about his huge cock . There’s a lot of running and screaming, slimy goo on fingers, Charlize Theron looking intense, and planet-shattering. Ron Paul Declares Himself One of Three Winners in Iowa Caucus

If Ron Paul was disappointed in last night’s Iowa caucus results , it didn’t show. The Republican Congressman from Texas finished a strong third behind Mitt Romney and Rick Santorum , but certainly served notice that he’s a factor in 2012. Paul wanted some legitimacy and a bigger platform for his movement, and by securing over 20 percent in the first-in-the-nation caucuses, he’s on his way. On stage before a cheering crowd Tuesday, Paul said winning elections is the best way to promote a cause, and that he was one of three winners last night: Ron Paul Speech After Iowa Caucus Claiming a ticket out of Iowa, Paul vowed to continue his fight, even as GOP rivals such as Newt Gingrich, Romney and Santorum dismiss him as unelectable. Iowa voters thought otherwise, taking to Paul’s small-government, anti-war and pro-civil liberties message in enough numbers to lift him into the top tier. Evangelicals, home schoolers, young people, moderates, libertarians and disaffected Democrats formed an unlikely coalition that led to his strong showing. Can it be replicated or improved upon elsewhere? That’s the key question. “We have tremendous opportunity,” Paul said. “It won’t be long that there’s going to be an election up in New Hampshire, and believe me, this momentum is going to continue, this movement is going to continue and we are going to keep scoring.” With a huge smile at the end, he continued, “So tonight, we have come out of an election where there were essentially three winners, three top vote-getters.” “We will go on, we will raise the money, I have no doubt about the volunteers.” Indeed, Paul’s fundraising and organization make him formidable almost anywhere. As the field narrows ( Michele Bachmann is already out), can he gain support? We’ll find out in New Hampshire.

Iowa Caucus Near-Tie Energizes Romney, Santorum Supporters

Results estimates show top three GOP presidential candidates, including Ron Paul, each winning seven delegates in crucial first primary. By Gil Kaufman, with reporting by Andrew Jenks Mitt Romney Photo: Jewel Samad/ Getty Images DES MOINES, Iowa — Everybody loves a winner, but sometimes not losing is the best you can hope for. After finishing in a near dead heat in the crucial first primary in the nation, Tuesday night’s Iowa caucus , supporters of Mitt Romney and Rick Santorum were both feeling very good about their candidates’ finishes. With Romney coming out on top by a grand total of eight votes, his camp couldn’t exactly shout from the rooftops, but, well, a win is a win in the closest race in Iowa caucus history. After overseeing the caucus meeting at Drake University earlier in the night, student Sam Pritchard said at the Romney results party at the hotel Fort Des Moines late Tuesday that the evening belonged to the longtime GOP presidential frontrunner. “It’s been a good win for Romney … and it’s going to provide him with the momentum he needs to win the rest of these primaries,” Pritchard said of the candidate who had not spent much time in Iowa until a few weeks before the caucus. “If he did this in two weeks, what can he do for the rest of the year? … It’s exhilarating.” Though CNN reported that the bulk of Romney’s votes came from caucusers 65 and older, Pritchard said that like third-place finisher Ron Paul’s pull with young voters, the former Massachusetts governor could do the same. “If you look at the Ron Paul campaign and why a lot of the youth voters like him, some of it applies to Romney as well,” he said. “He’s a Washington outsider, and he’s coming at it as somebody who wants to reform the system. By appealing to the moderates and independents, he can really capture the youth vote .” As a college student who is going to need a job when he graduates, Pritchard said he’s counting on Romney’s private-sector experience turning around companies to help him find employment when he leaves college. Santorum spoke to his faithful at a celebratory gathering well before the final vote tally was announced. Santorum staffer Ryan Rutt, 26, called the night “very exciting.” “Either way, it’s been a huge success,” Rutt said. “One way or the other, definitely a success for the Santorum campaign. Obviously, would love a big win, but this evening has been really exciting for all of us.” Also reveling in the unexpectedly come-from-nowhere near-win for Santorum was fellow staffer Jonathan Gehman, 29, who said he’s cast his lot with the classic-conservative family-values candidate because of Santorum’s conviction, positive campaigning and emphasis on faith and family. “This could completely change the climate of the election right now, especially because you look at the top three and you have three very different people,” added Joel Charles, 27, speaking of Santorum, Romney and libertarian third-place finisher Ron Paul . While MTV News’ PowerOf12.org correspondent Andrew Jenks told the Santorum team that he’d been getting blasted all Tuesday night by his young Twitter followers about the former senator’s hardline stances against abortion and gay marriage, Gehman said he agreed “100 percent” with Santorum on those social issues. “I think there’s a lot of young people in America with the same convictions,” he said. “I don’t think it’s as exciting to speak out that way … but I think there’s a minority that is silent, and if they’d speak up, we would be the majority.” By Wednesday morning (January 4), CNN estimated that, of the 25 pledged delegates at stake in Iowa, Romney, Santorum and Paul each won seven, further muddling the bragging rights coming out of the nation’s first presidential primary. All three candidates will now turn their attention to New Hampshire, where the fight will start all over again in the headlong rush to next Tuesday’s primary. MTV is on the scene in Iowa! Pity the Prez: NYT Blog Hauls Out the ‘Distraction’ Meme Again (Update: Press Treated NoKo as a Distraction in April 2009)

I heard Rush mention this Caucus Blog item at the New York Times on his program today. It seems that the Times's Michael Shear is disappointed that Dear Leader is yet again caught up in a “distraction” (“Pat-Downs Ensnare White House in New Distraction”) It's headlined in the item's browser window as “Pat-Downs Ensnare White House in New Controversy.” Interesting edit, don't you think? If it's a “controversy,” the President owns it. If it's a “distraction,” well, it's an unfair intrusion. Clever. Shear wrapped it in a narrative whose theme was that “It all felt vaguely familiar.” Well, yeah. What's more than vaguely familiar has been the press's tendency to lament the distractions our supposedly otherwise focused like a laser beam chief executive must endure. On April 9, 2009 (at NewsBusters ; at BizzyBlog ), I noted that “The words 'Obama' and 'distraction' have both appeared in 2,425 articles in just the past 30 days; excluding duplicates, it's about 450.” In his blog entry, Shear listed many other awful distractions the president has encountered. What's interesting are how many of them escalated because of Obama or people working directly for him: read more
