NKOTBSB Mash It Up In New Jersey

Mega-boy band doesn’t disappoint hyped-up crowd at the Izod Center. By Jocelyn Vena NKOTBSB perform on tour (file) Photo: Gilbert Carrasquillo/ Getty Images EAST RUTHERFORD, New Jersey — NKOTBSB took their act to the Izod Center on Monday night, and it’s safe to say that for former teenyboppers everywhere, the matchup of New Kids on the Block and the Backstreet Boys was the best show ever. It was a whirling, swirling boy-band bonanza complete with raging hormones, pop music and dancing in the aisles. The guys kept the audience on their feet from beginning to end, singing with a live backup band and accompanied by their sleek boy-band dancing. It all kicked off with a medley of the New Kids’ “Single” and Backstreet’s “The One.” Next up the guys went for newer jams like “Summertime,” “The Call,” “Dirty Dancing” and “Bye Bye Love.” The crowd went bananas when each NKOTBSB member came out on his own and kicked it old-school during tracks like “Right Stuff” and “Larger Than Life.” Then it all slowed down when New Kids performed smooth jams like “Didn’t I (Blow Your Mind)” and fan favorite “Please Don’t Go Girl,” bringing a touch of Motown flavor to the room. Backstreet kept things slow, making girls swoon with “Show Me the Meaning of Being Lonely” and their hidden gem “10,000 Promises.” BSB-er Howie Dorough then played to the room, telling the crowd that some of the most beautiful women in the world are from the Garden State. “I’ll Never Break Your Heart,” “Drowning” and “Incomplete” filled out the ballad set from Backstreet. The hits just kept on coming thanks to the New Kids, who got the room excited with a number of songs including “Step by Step” and really old-school jam “Cover Girl.” Joey McIntyre told the crowd that “this is the gift that keeps on giving,” before playing their ode to fans, “Tonight.” Other songs that filled out the set from both groups included “Shape of My Heart,” “As Long As You Love Me,” “I Want It That Way,” “All I Have to Give,” “Quit Playing Games” and “I’ll Be Loving You Forever.” The guys were also joined by Naughty by Nature for the group’s dance-floor classic “O.P.P.” before the show began to come to a close with NKOTBSB’s joint effort “Don’t Turn Out the Lights.” As if that wasn’t enough of a one-two punch of power pop, Backstreet hit the stage again with “Everybody (Backstreet’s Back)” before the New Kids emerged, clad in bedazzled Boston Celtics jerseys, for “Hangin’ Tough.” How’d it all end? Both groups, BSB now in Magic jerseys, combined the two tracks for one final medley. Related Artists NKOTBSB

Jay-Z Investigated By NBA For Wildcats Postgame Visit

Minority owner of the New Jersey Nets met winning Kentucky players. By Alvin Blanco Jay-Z Photo: Rob Loud/ Getty Images Photos of Jay-Z taken with the University of Kentucky men’s basketball team after their win over North Carolina in the Regional Finals of the NCAA tournament on Sunday have drawn the wary eyes of the NBA. CBSSports.com reports that the NBA will be investigating Jay-Z’s postgame congratulatory visit to the Kentucky Wildcats locker room at the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey. Such visits normally would be considered harmless, but Jay-Z is a minority owner of the New Jersey Nets, and contact between NBA personnel and potential NBA prospects is prohibited. Kentucky has at least two possible lottery picks in Brandon Knight and Terrence Jones, should they declare for the NBA draft. The photos and video began making the Internet rounds the day after the win, showing Jay-Z posing with players in the locker room. During a postgame interview, Kentucky player Darius Miller, who one of the photos is credited to, was asked about his reaction to seeing Jay-Z after the game. “It was crazy. I kind of had to do a double take,” Miller told Louisville’s Courier-Journal. “I didn’t expect that at all. I just had to get a picture with him.” Hova congratulating the Wildcats didn’t break any NCAA rules, however the hip-hop mogul might face a fine from the NBA, considering that Boston Celtics General Manager Danny Ainge was fined $30,000 for sitting next to Kevin Durant’s mother while he was still playing for the University of Texas in 2007. While the New Jersey Nets declined to comment, a spokesperson for the NBA confirmed to MTV News that the league is indeed investigating the matter. A message to Jay-Z’s representatives was not returned by press time. Sound off on this story in the comments below! Related Artists Jay-Z
