Now, the 30-year-old is excited to have a second chance at life. As a guest columnist for The Tennessean , Brown opened up about her experience: “There are no words to describe the joy and relief I felt when I learned of Gov. Bill Haslam’s extraordinary act of mercy in granting me clemency. In just seven months, I will walk out of prison and get a second chance at life.  I cannot properly convey my gratitude to Tennessee’s 49th governor, to my legal team and to all those along the way who listened to me and help me tell my story to others. Honoring the late Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., she wrote: I believe what matters most is when people begin to listen. That’s how the tide began to turn in the days of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., and that is certainly how the tide began to turn for me these past few years.” In that same sentiment, Brown specifically wrote about the importance of listening to the youth . “There is great power in listening to the insights of young people. As you think about the issues facing our society today, I invite you to view them from the lens of our youth with an open ear and mind. Let us step fully into our roles as stewards of their future and open our minds to the issues as defined by them. The smaller, quiet voices can speak the loudest if we would only listen.” Brown says her second chance is a beautiful act of mercy and compassion… “When you think of me, I hope you will celebrate not only me and my journey, but America and the beauty of a justice system that has the power to listen and understand redemption, forgiveness, mercy and compassion,” adding “America is a wonderful country because of this. Let us all proudly celebrate it as we honor Dr King.” She’ll be released from prison on August 7 and we’ll be cheering her on all the way. Read her full letter here .

So Sad: Christina Milian’s Infant Nephew Passes Away Shortly After Birth

Danielle Milian Loses Her Infant Son Hours After Birth Christina Milian’s sister, Danielle Milian , suffered a tragic loss earlier today, as her infant son, born in the early hours of Wednesday morning, passed away just hours after his birth. The reality star shared an excited message once her baby was born, noting that he was ready to take on the odds of a condition he was already facing: Unfortunately, shortly after Danielle’s son entered the world, he passed away from complications due to a condition he was diagnosed with while in the womb. Via USweekly : Richie was diagnosed with omphalocele — a life-threatening condition where organs form outside the body — during an ultrasound in March. “The tech said, ‘I can’t see the sex…because I am seeing…intestines,’” the Christina Milian Turned Up star recalled, explaining that her son’s stomach, gallbladder, spleen, and liver could be seen outside his torso. “I was told there’s almost a 53 percent chance of mortality.” Doctors advised Milian and her husband, Richard Dickerson, to terminate the pregnancy — but they decided to give their baby boy a chance at life. “I said to [Richard], ‘Could you live with this?’ Because I know can. I know I could be in a hospital every day,” she told Us. “As a mother, I will do whatever it takes for my child…No matter how long he has in this world, I could not imagine taking his chance away.” However despite her determination, Richie wasn’t able to survive outside the womb. Danielle shared a mournful message to Instagram letting everyone know her son wasn’t able to beat the odds. Truly sad news. Our thoughts and prayers are with the Milian family at this time.

Animal Cruelty: 4-Year-Old Rottweiler Killed After Being Repeatedly Punched By Owner Just After Avoiding Death

Why harm innocent animals ? Rescue Dog Dies After Repeatedly Being Punched According to Mail Online A rescue dog saved from being put down was punched to death by its new owners just four days after being given a new chance at life. Gipper, a four year old Rottweiler from south Florida, died after being repeatedly punched in the face by its 47-year-old new owner, Brian Perry. The dog had run over to a neighbor’s home in New Port Richey, near Tampa, and started barking at other dogs. Police in New Port Richey said 47-year-old Brian Perry beat the dog with his fists. He later buried the body but has so far refused to tell police where he put it. Police said the rescue dog was not attacking anyone and was not a threat. Gipper’s death has stunned the President of the animal rescue organization that placed Gipper with the Perry family. Grace Acosta, who runs the Gulfstream Guardian Angels Rottweiler Rescue said the Perrys had passed all the necessary background checks. ‘These people that adopted this dog from us went through the whole thing. We had excellent vet reports, we had someone visit their home, checking the home. It was approved. And they came with their own dog to meet with us,’ Acosta said. This breaks our heart. Sarah Hyland: My Dad Gave Me His Kidney!

Sarah Hyland stars on ABC’s Modern Family , a sitcom about, well, a very tight-knit modern family. But no tale about the Pritchetts or the Dunphys can match this actress’ real-life experience, as she tells Seventeen this month: her dad gave Hyland a kidney! The 21-year old suffered for years from kidney dysplasia and underwent life-saving kidney transplant surgery just last month. “You know that family is always going to be there for you – no matter what. My dad gave me a freaking’ kidney!” Hyland tells the magazine. “But its also the families that you create outside of your family. And you really find out what kind of people you’re friends with. It was just amazing, and it really opened my eyes to see who’s there for me and who’s not.” Hyland, who says she’s grateful for this “second chance at life” is dating actor Matt Prokop. “He helps me with my medication and takes me to doctor appointments and all the stuff that I need to do to take care of myself. Any other 21-year-old guy would not be there, I guarantee it,” she says. “I am one of the luckiest people in the world to have him be there for me.”

J.R. Martinez on Anderson: My Scars Are My Uniform

J.R. Martinez’s victory tour brought him to Anderson this week. There, he talked about his experience in Iraq as well as winning Dancing With the Stars , and being included in People magazine’s Sexiest Men Alive issue. “After 33 surgeries, I better be!” Martinez joked, referring to the burn treatments and skin graft operations he’s endured since being badly hurt in Iraq. Since 2003, his life story has been one of triumph over adversity. J.R. Martinez on Anderson Martinez began counseling other wounded veterans, then working as a motivational speaker all across the country before landing a role on All My Children . Now, he’s one of 2011’s big breakout stars, winning DWTS , being honored by the Defense Department , Grand Marshaling the Rose Parade and so forth. Martinez said he embraces the opportunities he has, with his newfound fame, to be an advocate for veterans, and says he will always serve our country. “You can take away my camouflage, you can take away my M16, which is my weapon, but I look at it now… my new weapons are my words and my new uniform is my scars,” he explained. “I’m going to continue to serve in a bigger way.” “I feel this is going to be needed with the talks of pulling our guys out of Iraq and Afghanistan and bringing them home … it’s important for me to be that voice.” After driving over a landmine, he spent the next “two and a half years in and out of the hospital” undergoing the never-ending procedures to restore his person, adding details about the journey of self-discovery he embarked on in his recovery. “It was a tough road at 19 years old, to look at your body and your face, and say, ‘What am I going to do about this now? How am I going to move forward?’” he said. “Thinking you’re completely alone and no one in the world understands or can relate to you, but luckily, I was able to see a side that I can use my second chance at life as an opportunity to help people with their first chance at life.” It’s not often you look at a celebrity and see a true hero among us, but J.R. may be that person. We wish him the best in all of his continuing endeavors.
