A group of 10 Black students has sadly discovered that they are not safe from police while in college. An internal investigation was launched after the students were stopped by cops and wrongfully accused of having an unpaid bill at an IHOP in Clayton, Missouri, police said Monday, July 16. The freshmen, who were unidentified, attended a summer start program at Washington University, which sits at the boundary of St. Louis and Clayton. They walked to IHOP for a late night meal and paid their bill on July 8. However, they were tracked down by officers in multiple squad cars after a restaurant manager issued a complaint about young Black males dining and dashing without settling a $62 bill, The Associated Press  reported. There were six squad cars that followed the students, the university said. Only four cars were named in the incident, according to St. Louis police. Police made the 10 students walk three blocks back to the restaurant, with six squad cars following them. https://t.co/97xP90YorV — St. Louis Post-Dispatch (@stltoday) July 16, 2018 The incident comes at a time when the nation is on high alert about racial profiling incidents that involve cops being called on people of color. The students were cooperative with police and showed their IHOP receipts to officers. They even agreed to walk back to the restaurant and talk with the manager who issued the complaint. After all was said and done, the manager defended the students as innocent and said other customers had left the unpaid bill. However, the damage had been done. “The fact that these 10 students, all of whom are African American, were scared and humiliated is unacceptable to us,” Washington University Vice Chancellor for Public Affairs Jill Friedman said in a statement Monday. “It is extremely disappointing that they have been so seriously let down, even before the official start of their first semester.” Incidents such as this one further show that there are not many safe spaces for students of color at or near colleges and universities. Race Matters: NYC Schools Chancellor Calls Out White Parents On Twitter For Being Against Integration

Getty Images New NYC Schools Chancellor Calls Out White Parents On Twitter NYC  Schools Chancellor Richard Carranza went in on Twitter on Friday, calling out white parents who are opposing efforts to integrate city schools–and he gave his most aggressive statement yet on this subject. 51-year-old Carranza is the child of Mexican immigrants and a veteran educator, and took the city’s top schools job only four weeks ago. He first addressed the subject on Twitter at 1 a.m. Friday, in a now-deleted tweet. The chancellor tweeted a RawStory recap of an Upper West Side school meeting on Tuesday, where numerous white parents spoke out against plans to integrate multiple neighborhood middle schools. “WATCH: Wealthy white Manhattan parents angrily rant against plan to bring more black kids to their schools,” Carranza tweeted, with a link to a video that originally appeared on NY1. The tweet linked to the RawStory write-up that began: “New effort to diversify schools in the Upper West Side of Manhattan – one of the richest neighborhoods in the city – has drawn an angry reaction from many parents…” We continue to see example after example of how so many people who espouse a desire for equity only want it in the abstract. But when equity necessities that these people share the resources they’ve been given with others, they show their true colors. https://t.co/DxcKWr2wN1 — Clint Smith (@ClintSmithIII) April 27, 2018 During an unrelated school tour Friday morning in Harlem, Carranza further explained his tweet and his views on school segregation, which are way more militant than those of his predecessor Carman Fariña. “These important conversations about creating opportunities for all students are necessary,” Carranza stated. “Parents and staff … raise the issue of segregation in schools — and I’m glad we’re talking about it.” When Mayor de Blasio was asked about his new chancellor’s spirited tweet during his weekly appearance on the Brian Lehrer show on Friday morning, he attempted to clarify Carrazna’s statements saying, “I don’t think he at all intends to vilify anyone — he’s not that type of person. This was his own personal voice … I might phrase it differently.”

‘Stealing Isn’t In My Blood’ Seahawks Safety Kam Chancellor Blasts Gym That Mistook Him For A Robber

AP Photo/Mike McCarn The joys of being black…. Kam Chancellor Mistaken For Robber At Gym Super Bowl champ and four-time Pro Bowler  Kam Chancellor was disgusted this week when he went to a gym with hopes of purchasing it, and had the cops called on him. The Seattle Times reports: Redmond police on Wednesday night confirmed that Seahawks safety Kam Chancellor was involved in an incident that led to a 911 call at the Redmond Athletic Club. The incident first came to light when Chancellor tweeted Wednesday night that two women had reported him to police because he was checking out the gym, which closed for business Monday. He said he was interested in buying it. Becky Range, the public information officer for the Redmond Police Department, described the incident as a misunderstanding. Range confirmed that a 911 call from the club was made to Redmond police at 4:25 p., Range said Chancellor was among five adults who, according to the club employee, were outside, banging on the door and looking in the window. “The employees thought the five individuals were trying to gain entry into the facility,’’ Range said. Range said the employees “felt unsettled’’ and called the police. The club had lost its lease and closed Monday. Range said Redmond police officers arrived as Chancellor and four other individuals were leaving. “It was a positive interaction,’’ Range said. “They (the officers) said, ‘Hey, what’s going on?’ and that’s when the group said they were just here to check out the facility. They were really easy to talk to, and they said our officers were really nice and they left without incident and no police report was filed.’’ Chancellor has run fitness boot camps for women in past off-season. Kam is rightfully perturbed by the incident and added some more heated tweets to his account. (AP Photo/Ted S. Warren) Hit the flip to see them…

Love & Hip Hop Season 6 Episode 1 Recap: Who Wears the Crown?

Last night,  Love & Hip Hop Season 6 Episode 1  made a triumphant return to VH1, as Remy Ma made his long-awaited comeback to boot. After six years behind bars. Meanwhile, Yandy Smith and Mendeecees Harris are facing the possibility of him doing some hard time. If you  watch Love & Hip Hop online , you knew coming in that there would be no shortage of drama with these lunatics. You were correct. We begin with new cast member Remy Ma, who was released last year from a New York prison after serving six years in the pen. Her husband, the rapper Papoose, is tasked with trying to keep Ma out of trouble because she’s on parole. Not an easy task right there. He wants to make sure she never misses curfew, unable to bear the thought of his wife going back to the can and leaving him again. Papoose asks Remy about them having a child together (both have kids from previous relationships), but she wants a wedding first. A real wedding, not the one they had over the phone in jail. No one can say Papoose didn’t take those words to heart. He whisked Remy Ma away to a castle where he proposed all over again. Yandy and Mendeecees could use some of that magic. Even after he singed a plea deal, Mendeecees and Yandy learned that he is very possibly headed back to prison for eight years. That would be a pretty big relationship buzzkill there. It wouldn’t be Love & Hip Hop without the man, the myth, the legend Peter Gunz, and his drama with Tara Wallace and Amina Buddafly. It’s just as messy as it was last year, which is impressive really. Peter is cheating on Amina with Tara, and that’s not even all: Both ladies are now living in the same damn building!  Amina accuses him of banging Tara, which he denies, and hopefully sets the stage for another whole season of this charade. Meanwhile, Yandy is managing Young B, who had a hit once but needs a career boost, and lands a role on a cypher DJ Self is having. Of course, Young B’s nemesis Moe is also in the cypher with Sexxy Lexxy and Mariah Lynn, and an epic freestyle battle ensues. Then an actual battle. Which security has to break up.

Caitlyn Jenner Apologizes for "Man in a Dress" Comment

As previously documented, Caitlyn Jenner was nearly named Time Magazine Person of the Year. She finished seventh in a vote that ended up giving the honor to German Chancellor Angela Merkel. Due to her significant year, however, Caitlyn was still featured in an interview with the publication… and now she’s here to apologize for something she said in that interview. At one point in the article, Jenner noted that her appearance remains important to her, adding that folks are still uncomfortable if a transgender person looks like a “man in a dress.” I think I caused a lot of hurt with this comment, and I’m truly sorry , Caitlyn wrote on her official blog this week. Jenner titled this blog entry “So Much to Learn,” admitting just that as an overriding theme to her message: she still has a lot to learn about being a transgender role model. “What I was trying to say is that our world really is still a binary one, and that people who look ‘visibly transgender’ sometimes can struggle for acceptance and may be treated poorly by others,” she explained of her comment. “And while this may be true, it’s also something that needs to change.” View Slideshow: Caitlyn Jenner Photos: So Long, Bruce! What a Year! Caitlyn, who has been at the center of plenty of controversies in 2015, went on to sound a more welcoming tone. “Some people look gender non-conforming because they want to look that way – they don’t want to conform to society’s expectations. Those people have every right to look and present exactly as they choose,” she wrote. “And then there are other people who don’t have the resources to access the medical procedures that would help them look the way they would like to look. Procedures, incidentally, that most health insurance plans refuse to cover. “All of these people are my brothers and my sisters, and I am fighting alongside them, too.” Among other criticisms of her, Jenner has faced backlash for being a wealthy transgender person. Yes, it’s still a struggle for her, some critics argue. But she can’t paint herself as representative of the LGBT cause because, as she mentions above, she can afford to look a certain way and can afford to take other steps in her transition if so desired. Concluded Caitlyn: “My comments probably made it seem like all I care about is fashion, or makeup, or appearance. I can tell you I really enjoy all of that – it’s who I am. It’s the world I come from, and as a person in the media I have certain expectations for myself. “But I am only one person. There are a lot of ways of being trans. And I want to help create a world in which people are able to express their gender in any way that is true and authentic for them. “And most importantly – a world in which how a trans person is treated isn’t dependent on how they look.” View Slideshow: 19 Most Kontroversial Kardashian Pictures of All-Time

65 Million For Husband: Tycoon Offers Reward to Marry Lesbian Daughter

Hong Kong’s Cecil Chao Sze-tsung announced he would offer HK $500 million (about $65 million U.S.) to the man who can woo and marry his 33-year-old daughter, Gigi Chao. The challenge? The younger Chao is a lesbian. “It is an inducement to attract someone who has the talent but not the capital to start his own business,” the elder Chao, a property and shipping magnate, told the BBC. “I don’t mind whether he is rich or poor. The important thing is that he is generous and kind-hearted,” he added. “Gigi is a very good woman with both talents and looks.” “She is devoted to her parents, is generous and does volunteer work.” According to the South China Post, the announcement came just one week after Chao’s daughter revealed she married her female partner of seven years, Sean Eav, in France. The tycoon, 76, called this “false.” According to the article, same-sex marriage is not legally recognized in Hong Kong, although civil unions are performed in France. Chao, whom the newspaper describes as “Hong Kong’s pre-eminent playboy tycoon,” told the BBC that Gigi Chao was single and needed a “good husband.” Chao has never married himself, and once claimed to have slept with 10,000 women. According to the BBC, Chao said he wouldn’t force Gigi to marry a man against her will. Gigi Chao runs Haut Monde Talent, a modeling and public relations company. She is the first of three children that Chao had with different women.
