Woman Dies on Plane From Brazil to Texas

A woman died on a plane from Brazil en route to Dallas this morning, reports indicate. She was pronounced dead on the plane; the AA flight was then diverted to Houston. Flight 962 from Sao Paulo to Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport landed instead at Bush Intercontinental Airport in Houston after 6:30 a.m. Wednesday. A medical emergency was reported inside the Boeing 777 aircraft. After the 25-year-old woman’s body was taken to the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences to be examined, the flight continued from Houston to Dallas. More than 200 passengers and a 14-person crew were aboard the flight when the woman died. A medical examiner will determine what caused the death. A spokesman said there were no visible signs of trauma.

Lady Gaga on ARTPOP: Weed-Free Album!

Lady Gaga will do anything for the sake of art. And pop. Even give up marijuana to ensure perfect recordings. Never one to be shy about her obsession for pot (see video of Lady Gaga smoking weed onstage), she says ARTPOP will not be produced under its influence. “No weed on Artpop. No,” Gaga revealed in a chat with fans last week … at least not in the studio. “Weed in the bathtub though. Hahaha,” she joked. Hey, you gotta do what works. All work and no play, that whole thing. Gaga’s Christmas tweet further revealed her love for the sticky-icky … and Mariah Carey. “I’m listening to @MariahCarey’s Christmas album dancing in my room with my weed xmas sweater,” she shared. “All I need now is my box wine #bestdayever.” Hopefully she decided to make cake like Lady Gaga makes cake later that day. When she’s not professing her love for pot, Gaga is gearing up to resume the latest leg of her Born This Way Ball tour, kicking off January 11 in Vancouver. As for ARTPOP, the new record, she says it’s “very risky,” and is expected to drop later this year. It’s a definite highlight of our 2013 music preview !

Memo to Antoine Fuqua: Spike Lee Should Shout His Beef With Quentin Tarantino Not Share It Over Coffee

So, right before 2012 ended,   Training Day director Antoine Fuqua piped up from Capri, Italy to assert that Spike Lee should not have publicly criticized Quentin Tarantino’s Django Unchained for the movie’s spaghetti-western-style depiction of slavery. And to that I can only say, “Huh?”  If ever there’s a movie made to be publicly, loudly — and heatedly — debated, it’s QT’s anti-slavery epic.   If you were offline for the holidays, here’s a recap of the situation:  As Movieline’s Brian Brooks reported  on Dec. 27, Lee declared that he has no intention of seeing Django Unchained . “I can’t disrespect my ancestors,” the Red Hook Summer director told Vibe magazine. He further elaborated via Twitter that “American Slavery Was Not A Sergio Leone Spaghetti Western. It Was A Holocaust.” Enter Fuqua, who took issue with the noisy way that Lee’s expressed his criticism. While at the Capri, Hollywood Film Festival in Italy, Fuqua told   The Hollywood Reporter  told the publication: “That’s just not the way you do things….If you disagree with the way a colleague did something, call him up, invite him out for a coffee, talk about it. But don’t do it publicly.” (Fuqua further defended Tarantino, albeit without actually having seen Django. ) For starters, I have to say that the idea of Spike Lee quietly and politely expressing his opinion — about anything —  is pretty funny.  Lee is a New Yorker, and a filmmaker who has succeeded precisely because he has no reservations about giving voice to controversial ideas, whether verbally, in written form, or through his preferred medium of film, that the average person and a lot of establishment filmmakers would be afraid to tackle. But whether Lee is talking about his beloved New York Knicks or Tarantino’s portrayal of slavery in Django Unchained , he’s going to speak his mind and he’s going to do it in a way that will insure a lot of people hear him. Back in 2008, Lee tangled with Clint Eastwood when he criticized the veteran filmmaker for not including any black soldiers in two movies about World War II, Flags of Our Fathers and Letters From Iwo Jima .  “Many veterans, African-Americans, who survived that war are upset at Clint Eastwood . In his vision of Iwo Jima, Negro soldiers did not exist. Simple as that. I have a different version,” Lee said at the Cannes Film Festival that year. Eastwood eventually responded that Lee should “shut his face,” and the Do The Right Thing director fired back: “We’re not on a plantation.” In 2012, Lee also sounded sour on the subject of Star Wars creator George Lucas’ movie about the Tuskegee Airmen, Red Tails . In response to comments that Lucas had made in the media about the studios inability to market black action films, Lee told The Daily Beast: “Here’s a question—this is very important—did George Lucas not understand that the marketing departments of all these Hollywood studios are all white? He only discovered that for  Red Tails ?! I’ve been saying this stuff for years. It’s not new!” It’s Lee’s nature to be argumentative and controversial, and Tarantino should welcome his fellow filmmaker’s barbs. For one, thing, Tarantino likes to stir the pot, too, albeit it in a more politically correct way. Before Christmas, he appeared on a Canadian talk show to contend that slavery still exists in the United States via the war on drugs and America’s penal system — on that issue, I suspect he and Lee would see eye to eye — and he has also suggested that a true debate on slavery and its ramifications has been avoided.  (“People are a little too sensitive to talk about stuff,” Tarantino said during his on-camera time in Canada.) Samuel L. Jackson made a similar point when I interviewed him about Django . “We’ve been avoiding really talking about it,” he told me, and he’s right.  So, with all due respect to Fuqua, I applaud Lee’s decision to speak his mind, and I’d love to see Tarantino answer him.  What would really be great is to get Tarantino, Django Unchained producer and filmmaker Reginald Hudlin , Fuqua, Jackson and Lee to debate this issue loudly, publicly — and heatedly. It’s time. Wow, I cannot believe I am finally able to write one of these…

Wow, I cannot believe I am finally able to write one of these things. I used to be so envious of all the other girls who were able to write Bieber experiences. Now I am one of those beliebers. My Bieber fan journey started way back in October 2009. Justin meant the world to me and I spent the majority of my time watching his videos, looking at pictures, and talking to my Twitter friends. Without going into detail, I tried multiple times to see Justin live. I was never able to. Finally, when the Believe tour dates came out, my mom finally allowed me to get tickets. However, Ticketmaster failed me. I was used to the let down. I, yet again, wouldn’t be seeing Justin Bieber live in concert. As October came around, I realized there was a month until Justin’s concert in New Jersey. I had to get to that concert. I asked my mom numerous times and hinted to let me buy tickets off Stubhub (or wait outside the venue with the hopes of getting tickets from Alfredo, Allison, Scooter, etc.). The concert was on Friday, November 9. My mom finally agreed to buying tickets off Stubhub the Tuesday before the concert. On Wednesday, my dad said he’d bring my friend and I. I was so beyond happy. I was finally going to see Justin Bieber live. It was going to be from nosebleed seats, but with complete honesty I did not care one bit. All I had to do was buy the tickets Thursday night and I would be seeing my idol live, finally. On Thursday at 4:07 p.m., I tweeted “Absolutely nothing could ruin my mood. NOTHING.”  Thursday at 4:30 was when everything changed. Thirty minutes before I was going to purchase tickets, a FedEx man arrived at my house with an envelope. It was addressed to me. I was clueless as to what it was, but I opened it. All there was inside was a yellow paper folded in thirds. I was so confused. Until I saw tickets sticking out of the paper. I pull the tickets out and all I see is ”JUSTIN BIEBER, IZOD CENTER” and I completely freaked out! I had no idea how or why or where I got these tickets from. It was a miracle, a gift from God. I looked at the yellow paper and it said “Ubisoft Just Dance to Justin Sweepstakes- CONGRATULATIONS!” I started pacing around the room saying oh my God a thousand times. My older sister was sitting there watching this whole thing unfold. She looked at the paper and said, “Mary, you didn’t read this whole thing.” I looked at the paper and saw ”Meet and Greet” and that is when I lost it. I was shaking and crying. I had no idea what to do. This was a miracle. I checked my email for a Congratulations email. And there was one I received 6 days beforehand saying that I had to respond by November 5 or I forfeit the prize. The reason I didn’t see the email is because I was out of power for 10 days (October 29 til November 7) from Hurricane Sandy. I emailed them that and they completely understood and said my prize was definitely still valid. Wow, this is really happening.  A week before I was nervous as hell about asking my mom if I could get tickets. Two days before I didn’t even have tickets. But then out of no where, I was going to MEET Justin Bieber. I was going to meet my idol. We got to the venue around 3:20 and eventually got our wristbands to meet Justin. We “had” to be in a group of 6 so we asked these 4 other ladies to join us. It turned out they were apart of the marketing team for Justin’s perfume. They were so awesome and sent my friend and I both 6 bottles of perfume including Someday and Girlfriend!  After waiting on line to meet Justin for a little while, it was our turn next. My friend and I were freaking out. I could not believe Justin Bieber was right behind that black curtain. Kenny was standing there  and I managed to say ”Hi Kenny!” and Kenny said “Hey, how you doing?” As soon as Kenny pulled back that black curtain and I saw Justin for the first time ever, I couldn’t believe my eyes. I can’t even explain the thoughts running through my head. I know everyone says this, but he looked absolutely FLAWLESS.  I could not fathom the fact that I was seeing in person the boy I’ve been a fan of for so long, the boy in the posters on my wall, and the boy I’ve watched thousands of videos of.  Justin held out his arms for us to get next to him. I don’t even know how, but I said hi to Justin and then said- ”This is my first time seeing you in 3 years.” And he looked down at me and said “This is MY first time seeing you in 3 years.” Basically, my heart melted. We took the picture. And as the rest of my group was leaving I said, ”Can I have a hug?” and Justin said, “Yeah, here!” We hugged and then I walked out. It was the greatest experience of my life and I am truly, truly blessed that my dream came true. We eventually got to our seats and man, we were sooo close. I yet again could not believe I was finally seeing Justin Bieber in concert that closely. It was absolutely perfect. Saying Justin put on an amazing show is an understatement. He’s a fantastic performer and I cannot wait to see him live again.  Honestly, to all Beliebers trying to meet Justin or get tickets, NEVER SAY NEVER! I don’t know a more true saying than that. You just have to wait for your time to come, and it will. I waited for 3 years! I cried so many times because I couldn’t see him. But finally, all my tears and dedication has paid off. I figured meeting him would never happen, at least not any time soon, so I settled for finally seeing him live. I never in a million years thought I would be able to say, ”I JUST MET JUSTIN BIEBER.”  I lived my dream and it was the greatest, most magical experience ever. Trust me, your time will come. Always believe, always fight for what you want, and always never say never. And to Justin- Thank you for being you. Thank you for teaching me and all your fans to never say never and to believe in our dreams. Because of the incredible experience I had, I truly know what you mean by “never say never.” It still doesn’t feel real or like it happened. Thank you for being the biggest inspiration out there. You’re a fantastic role model, a great person, and super talented.  Thank you for everything. Even for things I cannot explain. I love you so much. For Christmas my siblings got me tickets to see Justin again on July 31. I know it won’t compare to my experience in November, but I cannot wait. It’s going to be fantastic. -Mary (@xlovemaryjay) Here is the original post: Wow, I cannot believe I am finally able to write one of these…

Elsewhere In The World: 7 People Die Competing For Traffic Cop Jobs In Sweltering South African Heat, 1 Man Slit His Throat Because He Couldn’t Qualify!

The recession is real. And not just in the U.S. In fact unemployment is so high in South Africa, more than half a dozen young men DIED trying to qualify for traffic cop jobs. Another 230 collapsed, but a whopping 15,500 people took part in the test in competition for a mere 90 jobs!!! Via UK Daily Mail reports : The massive crowd of jobseekers took part in the deadly fitness test – which was held in a football stadium – after they each received text messages informing them they had been ‘shortlisted’ for the precious traffic police jobs. They were told that they needed to complete a 2.4 mile jog within thirty minutes to meet the force’s minimum fitness level requirement. But by the time they started running late last Thursday afternoon, temperatures inside Pietermaritzburg’s Harry Gwala football stadium had reached over 91.5 degrees Fahrenheit. Many of the desperate jobseekers had neither eaten nor drunk anything all day. They all had very limited access to drinking water. A total of 230 people collapsed from heat exhaustion and dehydration during the run. Of these, six died. A seventh man committed suicide by slitting his throat when he learnt he had not finished the race in time. Among the dead was Lenny Nxumalo, 28-year-old father of two whose body was only discovered over four hours after he died when the vast crowd finally cleared out of the stadium. He had collapsed having completed the race with ten minutes to spare. Yesterday his best friend Brian Ngcobo told the local The Witness newspaper: ‘My friend was so determined to become a traffic officer that he ran his life out because he was such a dedicated person.’ The tragedy is just the latest example of the problems that can occur when South Africa’s desperate youth – who face an effective unemployment rate of around 40 per cent – struggle to make successes of their lives. Government positions, such as those with the police force or army, are highly sought after as they are relatively well paid, have low entry criteria and because the application process positively discriminates in favour of blacks. Previous ‘mass job interviews’ for jobs such as these have seen tens of thousands of desperately poor and ill-educated young people descend on a location in the hope of securing one of perhaps just a dozen positions. In this latest example, over 150,000 people applied for the 90 jobs within the regional KwaZulu Natal traffic police department. Of these, 34,000 were sent text messages on Christmas Day telling them to report to the Harry Gwala stadium in two groups on Thursday and Friday. The politician responsible confirmed that ‘more than 34,000 applicants qualified for the 90 trainee posts which were advertised’, but that ‘scores of them could not cope with the hot weather condition and collapsed.’ South Africa’s Communist Party – which is in political alliance with the ruling African National Congress – demanded a full inquiry into the traffic police fitness test tragedy. And the opposition Inkatha Freedom Party has called on Willies Mchunu, the politician with ultimate responsibility for the debacle, to step down. ‘What happened in Pietermaritzburg was a classic display of being power-drunk, to an extent treating ordinary suffering people as subhuman. ‘No one in their right mind could in the first place short-list about 35,000 people for just 90 jobs,’IFP politician Blessed Gwala said.’ This is just crazy. Somebody has to be held responsible for these deaths! Photo Credit: meunierd / Shutterstock.com

Put On Blast: Crunchy Karrueche Claps Back At RihRih And Exposes Chris Breezy’s Lies On Twitter!

Karate refuses to go down without a fight… Karrueche Puts Chris Brown On Blast Chris ’ on-again/off-again boo Karrueche Tran is NOT happy about his reunion with RihRih, and she’s threatening to call both of them out on Twitter! Via HollywoodLife reports: Rihanna and Chris Brown shocked everyone by going to the Lakers game together on Christmas Day and sleeping together that night! As expected, Chris’ other woman, Karrueche Tran, doesn’t appear to be too happy with their very public reunion! In fact, Karrueche appears to be trying to out the twosome as a couple of liars! In Hollywood’s most famous love triangle, it is hard to determine which lady is Chris’ girlfriend, although at the moment, it clearly appears to be Rihanna, and Karrueche is the “sidepiece.” After seeing RiRi and Chris head to the basketball game in L.A. on Dec. 25, Karrueche was unimpressed, and on Dec. 27 she tweeted, “wishing death upon someone is some weak s**t.” Apparently, Rihanna’s fans were sending death threats Karrueche’s way on Twitter when her own fans mocked Chris and RiRi’s reunion. Now, on Dec. 29, Karrueche may be outing Chris and Rihanna as liars. She tweeted, “Your lies are going to catch up to you.” Chris and Rihanna went to the basketball game on Dec. 25 , and then back to Chris’ home for some private time, and they slept together that night. However, Chris supposedly spent the entire day texting Karrueche! Maybe that’s why Karrueche is calling Chris a liar. He’s sleeping with Rihanna and then texting Karrueche behind her back…
