New CBC Chair: Impeaching Trump ‘Is Not Going To Be Top On Our Agenda’

Read the rest here:

Source: Paul Morigi / Getty   D emocrats as recently as Sunday appeared ready to pounce on President Donald Trump  after the latest evidence from Special Counsel Robert Mueller ‘s probe suggested the president’s hands were filthy from Russian dirt. And with House Democrats in January taking control of committees directly involved with investigating the president, some incoming committee chairs have talked about the possibility of impeachment. But going after Trump in 2019 was not a priority of the Congressional Black Caucus (CBC), the group’s newly elected chair Rep. Karen Bass told NewsOne on Monday. “Impeachment is not going to be top on our agenda,” the California congresswoman said during a brief phone conversation. “It doesn’t mean it’s not going to happen. But at this point in time, we really think that some of the things our community needs are way more important than us going after impeachment now.” Bass’ comments came ahead of an Associated Press report that Democrats were toning down their aggressive rhetoric about impeaching Trump. At least immediately. See Also: Elijah Cummings Vows Evenhanded Investigation Of Trump Instead Of Dragging The President On Friday, Mueller’s office released findings from its investigation of Trump’s former lawyer Michael Cohen, including damning that Trump was “at the center of a massive fraud,” New York Rep. Jerry Nadler , the incoming chairman of the House Judiciary Committee, recently told the AP . Cohen admitted to overseeing illegal hush money payment to women who allegedly had sexual affairs with Trump in violation of campaign laws. Mueller’s filing also revealed previously unreported contacts between Trump associates and Kremlin representatives seeking to help the Republican nominee secure victory. “There’s a very real prospect that on the day Donald Trump leaves office, the Justice Department may indict him, that he may be the first president in quite some time to face the real prospect of jail time,” California Rep. Adam Schiff , who’s expected to chair the House intelligence committee in January, said Sunday. Still, many Democrats were cautious . For one thing, while they will control the House, Democrats will need Republicans’ support in the Senate to remove Trump. That could be a long way off given how partisan members of Congress have been under Trump. There was also concern about a political backlash similar to what happened to Republicans when they tried to remove President Bill Clinton  in the late 1990s. “I think impeachment might be something we are forced to do as more evidence comes out, but it doesn’t make sense for us to go there first when there’s no way it would be successful now,” Bass said. One of Bass’ top priority as CBC chair was protecting voting rights for African-Americans, pointing to the gubernatorial election that was stolen from Stacey Abrams in Georgia and the ongoing voter fraud scandal in North Carolina. “We have so much to do, given the last two years of this administration,” she said. “There has been no accountability, where we see him systematically go after gains our community achieved decades ago.” SEE ALSO: Meet Tammy Kemp, The Black Judge Assigned To Amber Guyger Murder Trial For Killing Botham Jean Omarosa Takes A Swipe At John Kelly’s Dismissal As White House Chief Of Staff [ione_media_gallery src=”https://newsone.com” id=”3839541″ overlay=”true”]

Barbz Beef With Grammys & First Ladies Keep It A Buck: This Week’s Winners & Losers

Follow this link:

Source: Bryan Steffy / Getty Another week, another moment of soul-snatching drama and unapologetic bluntness. Celebs and fans alike told us how they really felt this week and there was no sugarcoating in sight. Peep our winners below, then hit the next page for some salty fans who had to take an L. Winners “Over it” First Ladies There’s something about leaving public office that has to be completely liberating, especially for First Ladies. Although they’re not technically elected officials, they tend to be under as much scrutiny as their president husbands. First Ladies might have their own platforms and their own audience, but in certain ways, they still have to keep up a rigid image of womanhood and marriage that’s not always realistic. But now that Michelle Obama and Hillary Clinton are out of the larger political spotlight, it seems like they have zero effs to give.   Take Michelle for example. She’s currently on a book tour for her new release Becoming and she stopped by the Barclay Center in New York this past Saturday to drop some realness. According to Vanity Fair , Michelle was talking about marriage and she made a reference to the book Lean In by Facebook’s Chief Operating Officer Sheryl Sandberg.  “Marriage still ain’t equal, y’all,” Michelle said. “It ain’t equal. I tell women that whole ‘you can have it all’—mmm, nope, not at the same time, that’s a lie. It’s not always enough to lean in because that s**t doesn’t work.” Whew! Michelle!   After the crowd laughed and applauded, the former FLOTUS continued, “I thought we were at home, y’all. I was gettin’ real comfortable up in here. Alright, I’m back now. Sometimes that  stuff  doesn’t work.” Get comfortable Michelle! GET COMFORTABLE. Released in 2013, the book Lean In hasn’t necessarily aged well over the years, especially for women of color who aren’t in the corporate world. “Leaning in” to let your presence be known as a woman in the office might not work as well in other aspects of life. When talking about marriage especially, Michelle kept things a little more funky: “People are like, ‘Oh, why’d she talk about marriage counseling?’ I’m like, ‘Duh. Marriage is hard,’ you know. It is hard . . . I love my husband, and we have a great marriage, and we’ve had a great marriage, but marriage is hard work.” Boom. Some ‘Chelly realness for you. Hillary Clinton also didn’t have time for the BS this week when she attended George H.W. Bush ‘s funeral. When 45 a.k.a. Donald Trump arrived, Hillary was NOT about to fake like she liked him. Hillary and her husband were having a GRAND time sitting next to the Obamas at the funeral. They were laughing, ki ki’ing and probably making plans for the next karaoke night. But when Trump and Melania came through, the whole mood of the church pew shifted.  The Trumps came to sit next to the Obamas and everyone pretty much shook their hand except for Hillary. Now there’s no telling what was going through Hillary’s mind at the time as it pertains to Trump, but if you watch the footage, it looks like she was completely and utterly OVER IT. Peep the facial at the 0:58 mark below…   O  V  E  R    I  T. Mrs. Clinton had zero time.

Michelle Obama Always Has George W. Bush Smitten, Here Are The Pics To Prove It

First, let’s discuss the orange elephants in the room that are Donald Trump and his wife Melania . It was all good and Presidentially friendly until the current Chief Of Staff and the oblivious FLOTUS walked in. Bill and Hilary Clinton didn’t even shake the Trump’s hands when they greeted everyone. You could cut the tension in that cathedral with a knife. Literally, the entire first row’s face turned sour when controversial couple walked in. But they couldn’t be too rude because, according to reports, the Bush family promised Trump that he wouldn’t be criticized in the eulogies if he attended the funeral. A source told The Washington Post that the late President Bush “wouldn’t want anyone there to feel uncomfortable, including the incumbent president”. FOX News Anchor Chris Wallace says it’s the wildest thing he’s ever seen, telling reporters , “I have to say I was struck when President Trump and Melania Trump came to the front row that it was as if a chill had descended on that front row,” Wallace said. “You had seen a lot of chatty talk between the Clintons and the Obamas, the Carters. But when Donald Trump sat down, the greeting that he was given by Barack Obama and Michelle Obama was about as cool as it could have been. It seemed like they exchanged hello, good morning,” he added. “That was it, and at that point they all stopped talking to each other.” He added, “ There are some ill feelings among some of the people in the front row, and I have to say that where you usually have a president’s club, and even people that ran against and maybe one beat the other, that doesn’t seem to have been extended to President Trump when you see them sitting in that front row.”   Chiiiile. But enough about the funeral drama. The most talked about part of the entire service was when George W. Bush, who is mourning the loss of his father, made his way to the front row just to give Michelle Obama a piece of candy. Source: BRENDAN SMIALOWSKI/AFP / Getty Of course, he also greeted his fellow former POTUS’, but clearly that’s not the only reason he went up there. Remember he did the same thing at John McCain’s funeral too. Back in October, the former FLOTUS told NBC about her relationship with Dubya, “President Bush and I are forever seat mates because of protocol; that’s how we sit at all the official functions. So he is my partner in crime at every major thing where all the formers gather. I love him to death,” she said of the former president. “He’s a wonderful man. He’s a funny man.” “I didn’t realize at the time that anybody noticed what we were doing… He is my partner in crime at every major thing where all the formers gather… I love him to death.” @MichelleObama talks about George W. Lyle Menendez: I Heard O.J. Simpson Confess to Murdering Nicole!

Folks, its ’90s Day on THG and we’re celebrating by remembering the heyday of the Simpsons. No, not Homer and Marge — OJ and Jessica! Hear us out: Earlier today we reported that Jessica Simpson is feuding with Natalie Portman . As if! Now, it’s time to dig out your Doc Martens and tie a flannel shirt around your waist, because yet another Clinton era beef is making headlines. Boo ya! This one concerns two figures who loomed large in the 90s — one largely forgotten, and one still very much a part of the public consciousness. We’re talking, of course, O.J. Simpson and Lyle Menendez. Along with his brother Erik, Menendez was imprisoned for the shotgun murder of his parents in 1994. The brothers were locked up throughout their lengthy trial, so by the time O.J. arrived on the cellblock in June of 1994, the Menendezes were already veterans of the California penal system. According to a new book by Robert Rand entitled  The Menendez Murders , Lyle took O.J. under his wing, and the two of them quickly developed a close friendship. In fact, according to an excerpt from the book published today by Radar Online, O.J. confessed to killing his wife in one of his first conversations with Lyle. Rand claims that while Lyle and O.J. were both waiting for their lawyers in the prison’s “attorney room,” a tearful Simpson admitted to killing Nicole Brown Simpson and Ronald Goldman after he “snapped in the heat of passion.” “Lyle advised O.J. he should consider taking a plea deal,” Rand tells Radar. “O.J. briefly considered that option – according to Lyle – but later told Menendez he couldn’t do that because it would ruin his reputation and he would never work again.” In his book, Rand writes of Lyle’s recollection of O.J.’s early days behind bars: “The first night was rough. I didn’t see him cry but I believe he was,” Erik recalled, according to Rand. “I could hear him moaning.” Sounds like O.J. wasn’t cut out for life behind bars, so it’s a good thing (for him and absolutely no one else) that Simpson was acquitted , despite having very obviously committed double murder.  Of course, a few years later, he was tossed in the clink for unrelated crimes and spent nearly a decade in prison. Lyle, now 50, has been in jail since the late George H.W. Bush was in office. So justice was served in one case … and, like, sort of served in another. We wouldn’t call it a happy ending, but it’s an ending. Now let us never speak of ’90s Day again. View Slideshow: O.J. Simpson Trial Stars: Where Are They Now?

Cold War: Things Got SUPER Shady At George H.W. Bush’s Funeral Between The Obamas, Clintons, And Trumps

Source: BRENDAN SMIALOWSKI / Getty Obamas, Trumps, And Clinton Greet Awkwardly At Bush Funeral Today, the 41st President of the United States, George H.W. Bush, was laid to rest. The death of a former President is one of the rare occasions where the current POTUS and all former living Presidents come together publicly. Considering the fact that all the living Presidents and their wives pretty much hate Donald Trump, things will obviously be awkward as AF when they all come face-to-face. Now we didn’t expect fisticuffs, least not during the funeral, but the tension was visibly palpable as Donald and Melania greeted the former First Families. The Obamas and Bill Clinton kept it cute for the most part, but Hillary Clinton, oh, Hillary Clinton wasn’t having any of it. Ice cold. Check it out in the video below. It was all good just minutes before the orange azzhole showed up… It only takes one person to change the climate in the room. pic.twitter.com/sRFrmKGBP9 — Keith Boykin (@keithboykin) December 5, 2018 Did you see Michelle’s face after she shook Donnie’s hand? She HATES having to be congenial toward him! LMFAO! We don’t EVEN blame her.
