According to New York Daily News , she tried to steal the car, even with a 2-year-old girl in the back seat. Cops say the toddler’s mom left her kid strapped in a car seat in the back of a blue Honda Accord at about 12:45 p.m. on Sutter Ave in East New York. When the mom ran into a store to pick up something to eat, she left the door unlocked and the engine still running. This is when Adrea Aronald, 52, allegedly jumped into the car’s driver seat and stepped on the gas to go on a joy ride. Interestingly enough, Ms. Adrea didn’t get too far. She drove the car about two blocks, to Sutter Ave. and Crescent St, where she ran into a bicyclist, according to police. Aronald then turned onto Belmont Ave. and crashed into three parked cars. Smh. T he beauty industry is expected to be worth $390 billion by the year 2020 and Black entrepreneurs are making sure they have a piece of the pie. The Black-owned startup Mayven—a popular hair brand—recently raised $23 million in venture capital funding, Black Enterprise reported. . @MayvennHair , a company that got its start selling quality virgin human hair & extensions trusted & recommended by over 100,000 stylists, just raised $23 million in a Series B funding round. https://t.co/BXLNAcJX8g — Black Enterprise (@blackenterprise) November 7, 2018 Since the company’s inception in 2013, it has experienced exponential growth, the news outlet writes. Essence Ventures, Cross Culture Ventures, Impact America Fund, and 16z were all instrumental in helping them secure the new funds. Diishan Imira , Co-founder & CEO, Mayven says that the money will go towards the creation of a new service for the company which will allow customers to have their hair installed by Mayven-certified hairstylists for free. Mayven is also planning on launching a new wig line next year. “Mayvenn has been well received by the investment community because it’s different,” Imira said in a statement, according to Black Enterprise. “Investors saw that we had traction and an ownable stake of a large, fragmented market that has been highly overlooked with millions of dollars in buying power who wanted a better way to find and purchase hair. Additionally, as founders, we’re not only passionate about our mission, but have very unique and complementary skill sets to go out and solve these problems.” Mayven isn’t the only Black-owned business in the beauty industry that is making waves and securing venture capital. Amanda Johnson and KJ Miller —the two women behind the makeup brand Mented Cosmetics —broke barriers for Black women in the realm of entrepreneurship after becoming the 15th and 16th African-American women in history to garner $1 million in venture capital funding for their startup. New mom Kylie Jenner has been stunning the world with her post-baby bikini body , but she’s more focused on her baby and her business these days. In fact, she may be a little too busy to slum it with her siblings on the reality show that catapulted them all to stardom. A new report says that Kylie wants to drop Keeping Up With The Kardashians because she’s a billionaire. RadarOnline reports that Kylie may quit KUWTK . (Try saying that five times rapidly) “Kris is desperate to keep Kylie on the show,” the insider warns. The show is built on the power of their entire family. Unlike, say, Rob, viewers would miss seeing Kylie. “And,” the source says, Kris “thinks that she is essential to renegotiating” how much they are paid and how much control the family maintains over production and editing. That is, after all, something that Momager Kris will need to do “after the contracts end.” But Kylie’s status as the world’s most powerful influencer may not be the leverage that Kris is seeking. “But,” the insider notes. “She has a billion dollars already.” Or close enough. Kylie Cosmetics is worth enough to make your eyes bleed, and the value keeps going up every year. “She doesn’t need the show at all anymore,” the source reveals. That could spell trouble for the family’s signature series. Kylie hasn’t needed the show for a while. But now, she just has other priorities. “Kylie wants to focus on her baby and her cosmetics line instead,” the insider explains. Reality stardom has reportedly been getting old. Probably because she’s been at it for half of her life. “She hasn’t been into the show in a while,” the source reports. “And,” the insider continues. “It just has been really difficult for her to fit it into her already super busy schedule.” If this report is true, it is understandable that Kylie feels this way. Kim, Kourtney, Khloe, and Kris all signed up for Keeping Up With The Kardashians . They were grown adults. They had a choice. Kylie was just a kid. This life path has been massively rewarding, but it’s not something that she chose for herself. Kylie Cosmetics, however, is her baby. Stormi, in a much more literal sense, is also her baby. It would make a lot of sense for her to focus on the things that she really wants in life instead of upon the things that were thrust upon her. Especially if she doesn’t need that reality show paycheck to pay the bills. But let’s look at this from another angle — and consider whether this report is true. First of all, Kylie may feel some sense of familial obligation to help keep the show going. She’s certainly helped out her family before. (Well, she helped out Rob before — he’s arguably the only adult in the family who really needs help with anything) Second of all, we should remember that all of the Kardashian projects are inextricably tied to their respective brands. That means that their bodies, their social media presence, their products, and their reality television appearances do not exist within a vacuum. Kylie may fear that abandoning her family’s show could eventually cause her company to lose value. There’s another huge factor. Back in July, we learned that Life of Kylie was renewed . If Kylie is really too fatigued to continue being on a show on which she is part of an ensemble cast, is she really going to keep doing a show on which she is the star? We’re not suggesting that anyone place bets one way or the other, but while Kylie may feel conflicted, we wouldn’t be surprised if she sticks with KUWTK . At least, we don’t expect her to jump ship until the show goes even further downhill. View Slideshow: Kylie Jenner Tries Cereal with Milk for First Time, Confounds the Internet
SplashNews.com Kylie Jenner And Jordyn Woods Launch Their Jordyn x Kylie Collaboration Kylie Cosmetics is still raking in the big bucks , so it’s no surprise that after collaborations with her sisters Khloe, Kim and Kourtney — Kylie is now joining forces with her best friend Jordyn Woods. The palette features a lot of shimmery neutrals in varying shades of nudes and browns. The campaign that Kylie and Jordyn shot definitely reflects the colors they picked. Do you think you could do business with your best friend? We’re really wondering what the split was on this collaboration. Does Kylie get a bigger cut because it’s her brand or did she split it right down the middle because she and Jordyn are so close? How do you even negotiate something like that without things getting testy in the relationship? Kylie announced plans for the release about a week ago and she and Jordyn have been promoting up a storm ever since. Stormi even got gussied up in all silver for the big launch event. So precious right?! Are you guys fans of Kylie’s pink hair? She has gotten a lot of credit for her colorful looks but many folks are quick to point out that BLACK celebs like Jessica Dime and Blac Chyna were rocking these colors long before she started doing it. There’s no question that Stormi has some complicated questions she’ll face from friends and foes as she grows up with Kylie and Travis as parents. Do you think Kylie and Travis (and possibly Jordyn) will be able to help her out along the way? Jordyn also celebrated her birthday this weekend Hit the flip for more photos from the cosmetics launch and rollout.
Pat McGrath Labs Surpasses Kylie Cosmetics In Valuation With all the focus being on Kylie’s “self-made” beauty brand the past few days…a black owned company swooped in and claimed the billion-dollar value crown right under all our noses. Beauty mavens, particularly Sephora girls, should be familiar with Pat McGrath Labs, a cosmetics brand founded by the esteemed UK Black makeup artist of the same name. The brand, featuring palettes, lip colors and the like, has only been around since 2016. However, according to Black Enterprise , the brand was recently able to snag a $60 million deal from New York investment firm Eurazeo Brands. This bit of extra tipped the already insanely profitable cosmetic company over the billion-dollar mark in valuation. Nice! Congrats to Pat. Ladies, is this a brand you use? Getty
Summer is here! And if you are like me, I like to wear less makeup in the summer because I don’t like it sweating off (makeup slipping is the worst). Being in the heart of the heat (New Orleans), I met up with pro makeup artist Sheria Williams. Williams’ was confident we could achieve a light look that would have my skin looking flawless and use products that would not slip to sweat and heat. Real talk: this look lasted me from the afternoon all the way through the evening. I was in that NOLA heat, I went dancing…and I only had to apply some more transluscent powder as a touch up around 9PM. Source: Amanda Edwards / Getty A natural, light beat has been trending on the carpets for the past few years now. Yara Shahidi is a big fan of the look, known for a dewy glow and a glossy lip. Source: Danielle James / Hello Beautiful Follow our steps below and learn how to achieve this look! Start with clean skin. You wouldn’t start painting a picture on a dirty canvas, so why would you do this with your face? I had my oil and moisturizer on from the morning, so Williams’ used Neutrogena Makeup Remover Hydrating Cleansing Towelettes ($5.39, Target.com ) to take off everything from my face. The towelettes have hydrators and soothing cucumber and aloe extracts to help your skin feel extra moisturized. I like it! Foundation and Contour. Source: Danielle James / Hello Beautiful While I normally use a primer, Williams’ did not. I thought my makeup would slip without this, but surprisingly it didn’t (you’ll find out why at the last step). She did contour my face, even though I have high cheekbones and a defined face. She explained that contouring helps bring depth to your face. She used LA Girl HD Pro Concealer ($2.38, Walmart.com ). This concealer is cheap and a favorite of many. Williams’ purred, “It goes on sooo creamy!” Even Real Housewives Of Atlanta star, Kandi , loves it and keeps it in her bag ! She used MAC Studio Fix SPF 15 Foundation ($30.00, MACcosmetics.com ) for the rest of my face. To me, it wasn’t even the foundation she used but how she applied it. She stippled my face. Stippling is when you pat the foundation on your face instead of rubbing it in. It also allows your foundation to stay pigmented and give you maximum coverage. I’m confident this is what gave it the airbrushed look. Powder. After she applied the foundation, she set it with Laura Mercier Translucent Setting Powder ($38.00, Sephora.com ). I believe this is the best setting powder on the market and worth the almost $40.00 investment. All of #TeamBeautiful loves this setting powder. In the Summer, I also love Too Faced Peach Perfect Mattifying Setting Powder ($32.00, Sephora.com ). Don’t be detered by the light color, it blends well into all skin tones. I like this setting powder because it has an extra oomph in preventing shine. Brows. Source: Danielle James / Hello Beautiful She gave me a natural brow (because, summer) and used Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow Wiz Pencil ($21.00, Ulta.com ). Source: Danielle James / Hello Beautiful The major key to natural brows is first brushing your brow hairs up (pictured above), then following your natural brow line and using short strokes to emulate hair. How to do your brows are an entire tutorial on their own, and we have one for you here . Eyes. Source: Danielle James / Hello Beautiful For my eyes, she used Milani Waterproof Liner Pencil ($6.97, Walmart.com ). You can use your favorite natural eyeshadow palette for a look. Try Maybelline The Nudes ($8.09, Target.com ) that has beautiful browns, golds, and nudes suitable for every Black woman. Add some lashes for oomph! Williams’ used Salon Perfect Be Natural Multi Pack Lashes ($8.44, Walmart.com ). For under $9.00, this gives you five sets of lashes in the pack. What a deal! You can also try Ardell Natural Lash – Black 110 ($4.99, Ulta.com ). Lips. Source: Danielle James / Hello Beautiful For my lips she lined my lips with MAC Cosmetics Lip Liner in Cork ($18.00, MACcosmetics.com ). This is a great shade for brown girls, you can also try Chestnut , if you are darker or want a bit more of an intense brown. For my lipstick, she used Milani Amore Matte Lip Cream in Adorable ($7.97, Walmart.com ).
