Radio Personality lilD Pens Memoir About Her Rise From Homelessness To The “Mouth Of The South” (Exclusive)

Source: Shutter King Images @shutterkingimages / Shutter King Images @shutterkingimages Dee “lilD” Porter ‘s New Book “Route 2” Is Out Oct. 10 Her infectious voice has entertained scores of listeners over the years. But 97.9 The Beat’s Dee “lilD” Porter’s rise to fame on the radio airwaves was anything but smooth. The Dallas, TX radio personality, who endured poverty and homelessness in her quest for success on the air, has written about her struggle to succeed on the radio in her new memoir, “Route 2,” which is out this week. In it, the Louisiana native and self-proclaimed “Mouth of the South” recalls the three months she spent homeless and working two jobs in order to break into radio. The book, out Oct. 10, includes a forward from “The Breakfast Club” host Charlemagne Tha God and chronicles her grinding for low wages, going hungry and struggling to fill her car with gas for the two hour trip for her part-time radio gig. lilD said she promised herself that if she made it, she would write about her experience to help others. Source: Shutter King Images @shutterkingimages / Shutter King Images @shutterkingimages “It was a Wednesday and I was sitting in that motel room,” lilD recalled in a recent interview with BOSSIP. “I knew I wasn’t going to eat until Friday, and I thought if I make it through this…I realized that so many people are going through a struggle right now. I want them to know that this isn’t the end of the road, it’s the beginning.” lilD said she hopes the book will show readers the real deal about breaking into the radio industry while illustrating that people coming into it can be successful if they are willing to work hard and stick it out. “I want people to get a realistic vibe,” she said. “This industry is very tough. You don’t just come in one day, be a jock and make $80,000.” But “I want them to understand that if you believe in yourself, the risk will pay off.” She also hopes that “Route 2” will help counter the stigma around homelessness. “Your co-workers could be homeless, because I was and nobody knew,” lilD said. “Homelessness isn’t just that you chose to smoke your rent away. Homelessness has a face and it was my face at some point…You never know what’s going on.”

Karrueche, Offset, & More Watch Pyer Moss Salute Blackness At NYFW Runway Show

Source: KENA BETANCUR / Getty Celebs & Fashionistas Packed The Kings Theater in Brooklyn For Pyer Moss’ Highly-Anticipated Collection Debut Pyer Moss’s third collection runway debut reveled in the beautiful struggle of the Black Experience at New York Fashion Week. Throngs of fashionistas packed the Kings Theater in Brooklyn Sunday night for the unveiling of the third installment of Pyer Moss’ “American, Also” collection, “Sister.” The brand, headed by creative director Kerby Jean-Raymond, turned the show into an almost spiritual experience: the evening began with a rousing speech telling guests to throw off the psychological shackles of slavery and oppression and declare themselves free. Source: Dominik Bindl / Getty Then a band, clad in all white, took the stage to accompany a full gospel choir, that sang everything from Donny Hathaway’s “Little Ghetto Boy,” to Anita Baker’s “Sweet Love” to Adina Howard’s “Freak Like Me” as the models hit the catwalk. Source: Fernanda Calfat / Getty The celebration of blackness was everywhere – and especially in the clothes. All of the models were black and brown and their outfits bore touches like Sankofa bird patterns, abstract prints of black life, and satin finishes and bell-bottom designs that were reminiscent of 1970s Blaxploitation movies. One standout was a billowing canary yellow satin gown with a deep v-neckline with cape-esque sleeves and an open back detail. Source: Fernanda Calfat / Getty Pyer Moss also collaborated on some of the looks with American designers including the black-owned Sean John and Richard Phillips. The fashion show brought out the likes of Karrueche Tran and Victor Cruz, Chris Bosh and his wife, Adrienne, Offset (in a lime green suit), Saweetie accompanied by an iced out Quavo, Terrence J and a white Du-Rag clad Jidenna. Singers Justine Skye and Normani Hamilton sat front row, while ASAP Ferg mugged for the cameras and a shirtless Slick Woods and Joey Badass shared a laugh. Source: Courtesy of CLEO TV / Courtesy of CLEO TV “Living By Design With Jake And Jazz” Is A New Interior Design Show For Millennials Siblings Jake and Jazz Smollett have teamed up to transform the homes of millennials for their new show “Living By Design With Jake And Jazz.” The new show on network CLEO TV pairs the siblings with mostly millennial women of color who are in need of a style revamp in their homes. The Smolletts’ tap into their shared interest in interior design and cooking on the show, first redesigning the subject’s space and then making a meal with them. “‘Living By Design’ has been such a fun project to work on,” Jazz said. “ It encompasses design and food, which is both of our passions…It’s not a cookie cutter redesign of their space. It’s functional and cute at the same time.” The Smolletts, whose handlers told us they did not want to discuss their brother, Jussie being accused of staging a hate crime attack, insisted that you can design your home beautifully without spending a lot of money. “You don’t have to break the bank to reflect you and make it feel like home,” Jazz said. “We do a lot of online thrifting. You can find stuff that you can repurpose.” Jake said that small tweaks like shifting furniture around and putting money towards bigger pieces can go a long way towards creating a chic interior design. “You can always refurbish a place for next to nothing if you are willing to go get a can of paint and an extra knob,” he said. “Living By Design With Jake And Jazz” airs on CLEO TV.

Wu-Tang Ain’t Always For The Children: RZA & Ghostface Killah Are Developing A Horror Film Inspired By True Events

Source: Phillip Faraone / Getty Ghostface Killah And RZA Are Developing A Horror Movie RZA  and  Ghostface Killah  are making some major moves in order to expand their filmography. According to reports from Deadline , the hip-hop legends along with producer Shaun Redick (from films like  Get Out and BlacKkKlansman ) are teaming up to develop a film titled  Angel of Dust.  The movie is said to be a “suspense horror thriller” that RZA himself will direct. The film is reportedly inspired by true events the members of the Wu-Tang Clan experienced while growing up in the Staten Island Projects. Ghostface developed the story idea along with his manager Caruso. Matt Leslie and Stephen J. Smith were tapped to write the modern-day adaptation of the script. Angel of Dust  is supposedly going to center on an exceptionally smart teenager and talented rapper named Casey, who is forced to grow up in the streets of Shaolin following the mysterious death of his parents. The boy ends up being confronted by gangs, crooked cops, junkies, along with “a serial killer with seemingly supernatural powers.” “It’s hard to fathom a better way to celebrate the Wu-Tang Clan’s 25th anniversary as rock and rap creative icons than producing a cutting-edge suspense thriller loosely based on true events that though terrifying helped shape one of the greatest groups of all time,” Redick said. “The writers, Leslie and Smith have taken this original idea to seismic levels.” But of course, any film wouldn’t be complete without some music–especially one being made by rap legends. The Wu-Tang Clan will provide the  Angel of Dust  soundtrack, which is going to be produced by both Ghostface and Caruso. RZA will score the movie. “The creative collaboration of RZA and Ghostface has stood the test of time through our music,” RZA explained. “Now the opportunity to put our creative energies together onto the silver screen has arisen and I’m turbo charged. Bong Bong!” Angel of Dust ‘s release date has not yet been announced.
