Rep, Elijah Cummings has been a brutal bully, shouting and screaming at the great men & women of Border Patrol about conditions at the Southern Border, when actually his Baltimore district is FAR WORSE and more dangerous. She edged out Swedish swimmer Sarah Sjostrom and Australia’s Cate Campbell . She is the second woman to win two consecutive world titles. The first woman to do so was swimmer Kornelia Ender 44 years ago. This isn’t the first time that Manuel has made history. In 2016 she became the first Black woman to win an individual Olympic gold medal in swimming. Her impact goes far beyond the water. Manuel is big on philanthropy and is on a mission to diversify swimming. “The gold medal wasn’t just for me; it was for people that came before me and inspired me to stay in the sport,” she told the New York Times in an interview. “For people who believe that they can’t do it, I hope I’m an inspiration to others to get out there and try swimming. You might be pretty good at it.” Earlier this year, she visited LeBron James ’ I Promise School in Akron, Ohio to talk with students about water safety and encourage them to learn how to swim. In partnership with the Akron Area YMCA, she will provide all of the students with swimming lessons this summer. She is also spreading awareness about the high drowning rate within the Black community and is working hard to reverse the alarming trend. “The most important thing is saving lives more than winning gold medals. Representation is important,” she said . A Philly couple made history by opening the first Black-owned cancer center in the US https://t.co/vKNgYUoEyE pic.twitter.com/kv5FpuN1kZ — Blavity News (@Blavity) July 26, 2019 For Marjani and Al , the battle against cancer hits home. Ten years ago, they had three family members who were fighting different types of the disease at the same time. While supporting their loved ones they noticed there was a lack of spaces that merged treatments with wellness and decided to open The Cancer Who Cares Center. “We noticed that there was no center where people with cancer could go to decompress, and let their emotions out, but also be treated with a sense of normalcy,” Al told the news outlet. “All of our programs are free because we want to support the person and their family without them having to worry about paying for anything.” The center has a variety of programs to provide emotional and mental care for patients, including spa days, forums and yoga classes. The couple hopes that their journey will inspire other individuals in the Black community to break barriers in whatever industry they choose to pursue. “We feel proud that we can show our children and the rest of our culture that you can always be the first at something even when you feel like you are in last place,” Al stated. There are several Black entrepreneurs who are creating spaces where people of color can receive proper care and support. Earlier this year a group of African American medical professionals joined forces to open up Chicago’s only Black-owned urgent care facility . In 2018, Dr. Tamara Moise and Wadson Fils opened the doors to Big Apple Urgent Care, Brooklyn’s first Black-owned urgent care center. Super Beauty Founder TiffanyJ Aims To Empower Black Youth Through Book Series And Doll Line

Read the original post:

N avigating adolescence was an uphill battle for South Carolina-bred entrepreneur TiffanyJ . The pressures of fitting in with her peers, her ongoing struggle with low self-esteem and depression and dealing with the complexities of a torn family that had been ravaged by divorce led to her first suicide attempt at 12 years old. Sadly, stories similar to TiffanyJ’s have become far too common amongst Black youth today. According to a study released by JAMA Pediatrics , the suicide rate for Black children is twice the rate of whites. Further research revealed that the suicide rate amongst Black girls between the ages of 13 and 19 increased by 182 percent between 2001 and 2017. While the experiences of Black youth are not monolithic and there are several different factors that come into play that shapes their lives, the alarming trend must be addressed. TiffanyJ is on a mission to prevent other Black children from becoming statistics and has been dedicated to using her creativity and artistry as a source of empowerment through her brand Super Beauty . The music artist, motivational speaker and business owner has always been passionate about using her own experiences to help others heal from their trauma. As a teen, she coped with her depression by turning to songwriting. In adulthood, she continues to utilize her creativity to heal. In 2018, she launched the Super Beauty doll line. The plush doll was created to empower Black girls who have found themselves in the same shoes that TiffanyJ was in as a child. Designed to help youngsters overcome depression and other forms of mental illness, the doll says over 20 positive phrases of upliftment. The Super Beauty mascot travels around the country to speak to young girls at schools, churches, and camps. For TiffanyJ, it’s all about representation. “The most rewarding thing about this journey is the responses that I get from what I’ve created. I can honestly say it has been an overwhelming flood of positivity. The joy people get has been the best part of it. It’s confirmation that you’re operating in your purpose,” she told NewsOne. “There is one girl that has every piece of merchandise that we’ve ever sold. She ran up to me at a festival with so much joy. Those types of interactions keep me inspired and motivated.” In 2019, the entrepreneur has taken her brand to new levels. Continuing her mission of empowerment, in February she launched a book called ABCs for the Culture which aims to teach youth about Black history. The book features Black facts from A through Z; some of which won’t be found in regular school curriculums. In the book, “B” stands for the Black Power Movement, “N” is for natural hair, and “S” is for soul. “Paying homage to Black history and culture and sharing our culture with others so they understand the richness of being Black was my ultimate mission. I wanted to inspire and empower our children to be proud and unapologetically Black,” she said. Source: TiffanyJ / TiffanyJ As far as what’s on the horizon for TiffanyJ and the Super Beauty brand, she plans on creating more books and dolls. She also wants to create Super Beauty bedroom decor and coloring books. Cognizant of the struggles faced by Black boys TiffanyJ is developing a character named Handsome Hero so they see themselves reflected. All in all, the entrepreneur wants to continue to help Black youth overcome depression. “Mental health is such a taboo in our community and that’s our biggest hurdle. We have to start showing people that it’s definitely okay to not be okay and we can’t shame them into silence,” she said. “Sharing your story is really powerful. It builds a sense of community and lets individuals know that they’re not alone.” SEE ALSO: Entrepreneur Creates Line Of Dolls To Help Black Girls Who Suffer From Depression Healthy Roots Dolls Empower Black Girls To Embrace Their Natural Hair [ione_media_gallery src=”https://newsone.com” id=”3881857″ overlay=”true”]

Fans of t he movie directed by Keenan Ivory Wayans, starring his little brothers, Marlon and Shawn Wayans, will n ow have something to look ‘White Chicks 2’  as confirmed by Terry Crews. The movie, which was about two undercover FBI agents going undercover as white girls to protect them from being kidnapped pulled in a cool $113 million and grossed just over $70 million. One of the more iconic scenes in the movie is when Terry Crews character, Latrell Spencer, takes one of the undercover girls out on a date, Marlon Wayans character, Kevin Copeland, is trying to make this date as unpleasant as possible. Crews also told  The Talk  on Monday that  White Chicks 2  could see a pop song performance — similar to his iconic rendition of Vanessa Carlton’s “A Thousand Miles” — saying, “I think the modern day equivalent to that might be the song by Carly Rae Jepsen ‘Call Me Maybe’.” There have been no further updates, or details about the movie released. Source: Lil Nas X / Columbia Records Lil Nas X has once again shocked the world with a recent admission of being gay. Irv Gotti thinks the culture will not blink for a second. TMZ caught up with the acclaimed record producer while in New York City. When approached by the cameraman he was immediately asked about the “Old Town Road” rapper’s sexuality to which he responded “you’re like the fifth person to ask me that”. Regardless of the repetition Lorenzo gave his two cents on the matter. “We don’t care whatever he is – if he’s gay. It’s all good” he explained. Rightfully so the reporter kindly reminded him that Hip-Hop has had a long history of being misogynistic and the Tales producer was spot on with his explanation. “If it was 20 – 30 years ago it would be a shocker. [In] 2019 who cares?” He went on to further the explain his stance. “It’s all good. Just be whoever you are and we’ll accept you.” On June 30, the last day of Pride month, the Atlanta native confirmed he was gay . deadass thought i made it obvious pic.twitter.com/HFCbVqBkLM — nope (@LilNasX) June 30, 2019 While the announcement was met with much praise trollers will still troll. “so that’s what he meant by ride til i cant no more ” pic.twitter.com/U5kck2rMYT — nope (@LilNasX) July 1, 2019 You can view Irv’s interview below.
