She got more bags than grown ladies. No cap.” Future later added, “I shop every day. I probably spend two to three hundred thousand dollars on clothes a month. SplashNews.com Twitter Speaks Their Mind On Monday, Serena Williams was announced as GQ ‘s Woman of the Year and some people aren’t too hype about the cover that was unveiled. Instead of putting “Woman of the Year” in plain text, “Man of the Year” is printed with “Man” crossed out and replaced with “Woman” in quotations. Announcing GQ's Men (and Woman) of the Year 2018: @michaelb4jordan , @henrygolding , @jonahhill , and @serenawilliams (featuring handwriting by @virgilabloh ) https://t.co/EpG3lKCJ3r #GQMOTY pic.twitter.com/6MgczSxSpq — GQ Magazine (@GQMagazine) November 12, 2018 The quoted “Woman” was handwritten by designer and Williams collaborator Virgil Abloh. Abloh, the man behind Off-White and Louis Vuitton, designed Serena’s US Open tutu dress and he often uses quotation marks on his Off-White designs. However, some people on Twitter didn’t grasp this context and they believed the quotations used for Serena were insensitive to ridicule she’s received in the past. Serena has constantly been labeled a man or unhuman-like for her athletic skills and body type. Someone I follow pointed out that @GQMagazine decided to put woman in quotes on Serena's cover and I too am offended and disgusted knowing the gender slights and digs people still throw at @serenawilliams . https://t.co/um9oYV6Pr0 — I'm That Type Of Guy (@Marrrrcussss) November 12, 2018 They really put “Woman” in quotes in reference to Serena and no one at the table thought it was a bad idea. I'm speechless. — King Wizard (@ChrisTheHuman_) November 12, 2018 Some folks even understood the Virgil reference but still were offended. Everyone knows Virgil. We know his designs. We get the quotations. Doesn’t mean putting quotes around woman makes it any less insensitive esp. considering the masculinization of Serena and black women in general! — Kae (@akaeleehb) November 13, 2018 One Twitter user even pointed out that Gal Godot was named Woman of the Year by GQ last year, but her “Woman” wasn’t in quotation marks. Serena is the magazine’s sole Woman of the Year, which doesn’t make matters any better. The Men of the Year include Michael B. Jordan, Henry Golding, and Jonah Hill. Serena has yet to speak publically on the cover, but she’s been candid in the past about ridicule she’s faced about her gender. Last year, in a reddit post , Williams said: “I’ve been called man because I appeared outwardly strong. It has been said that I use drugs (No, I have always had far too much integrity to behave dishonestly in order to gain an advantage). It has been said I don’t belong in Women’s sports — that I belong in Men’s — because I look stronger than many other women do. (No, I just work hard and I was born with this badass body and proud of it).” She addressed the issue some more back in May when she told Harper’s Bazaar , “People would say I was born a guy, all because of my arms, or because I’m strong. I was different to Venus: She was thin and tall and beautiful, and I am strong and muscular — and beautiful, but, you know, it was just totally different.” What do you think of the GQ cover? Too much or is it just another designer’s signature stamp?
Source: 2016 LACMA Art + Film Gala held at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art Featuring: ASAP Rocky Where: Los Angeles, California, United States When: 30 Oct 2016 Credit: Adriana M. Barraza/WENN.com When Under Armour and A$AP Rocky revealed their upcoming collaboration SRLo sneakers last month everyone immediately noticed that the kicks were dead ringers for the skater classics Osiris D3 ‘s. But since the creators of the originals didn’t make a fuss about it everyone went about their business. However, things changed this past weekend and for whatever reason Osiris decided to call out Pretty Flacko and UA for biting their silhouette and took to the ‘Gram to remind everyone “who dropped it first.” The Osiris D3’s originally dropped in the early 2000’s and became a sneaker staple for skaters all across the board. When commenters tried to imply that the Rocky had worked with skater Dave Mayhew, whom many say originally designed the D3’s, Osiris quickly shot that down saying, “nope he didn’t. Brian Reid is the designer of the D3.” So much for that theory. Regardless of who A$AP Rocky worked with or who actually designed the sneaker, Osiris isn’t happy with the A$AP and Under Armour collaboration nor should they be. The SRLo is basically the Osiris D3 ‘s and if Osiris isn’t getting a piece of the pie for something they cooked up a decade and change ago, that’s going to rub them the wrong way. This must be how Gucci felt when Jay-Z and Reebok dropped the S. Carter ‘s in 2003.

You can say many things about Selena Gomez. You can say you don’t like her music because you’re entitled to that opinion. You can say you she has bad taste in men because Justin Bieber has never treated her well. You can say she makes poor decisions with her hairstyle at times. But you cannot say what Stefano Gabbana just said about the singer, not if you want to avoid very deserved backlash from millions of people on social media. The Italian designer, who co-founded the fashion label label Dolce & Gabbana, went out of his way on Instagram this week to attack Gomez. In the comments of a photo on The Catwalk Italia’s Instagram account, Gabbana wrote the following alongside a collage of Selena picture: È proprio brutta!!! This translates, very simply and extremely rudely, to: She’s so ugly. The insult was many things; unprovoked, cruel, sexist and objectively untrue. And while Gomez has thus far taken the high road, refusing to even acknowledge Gabbana’s existence, her friends and fans online have been unable to show similar restraint. “@stefanobabbana you’re tired and over. your homophobic, misogynistic, body-shaming existence will not thrive in 2018,” Tweeted 13 Reasons Why actor Tommy Dorfman, who plays Ryan Shaver in the Netflix drama. He added: “it is no longer tolerable or chic. please take many seats.” And then there was this from a Gomez follower: “Shame on you for online bullying. Doesn’t matter if 1 million people see it or 1 person, it’s bullying. It’s wrong.” And then this from another Gomez follower, who kept it short and simple and supportive: “We love this beautiful queen.” Julia Michaels, a singer-songwriter and close friend of Selena’s tweeted: “@selenagomez just here to tell you that you are one of the most beautiful women I know, inside and out. I love you always.” This really is true. While the merits of what Gabbana said are really beside the point, it might as well be pointed out while we’re here: Selena Gomez is a very pretty young woman. Full stop. This statement really can’t be debated. Over the years, Gabbana has bullied stars on social media numerous times, including Kate Mossand Victoria Beckham. Most recently, he went after Kate Moss on the same Catwalk Italia Instagram page, dissing a Saint Laurent look she was wearing … just because. In 2015, celebrities such as Elton John, Courtney Love and Ricky Martin boycotted the fashion brand over insensitive comments Dolce and Gabbana made about IVF and LGBTQ families. Moreover, the brand released a $245 “#BoycottDolceGabbana” graphic T-shirt inspired by the negative response to First Lady Melania Trump wearing their designs. In other words: it courts controversy like this. So the best thing to do is what Selena has done, which is to totally and completely ignore the misguided and pathetic messenger. This will be the last time we write about him. View Slideshow: Selena Gomez Stuns with Appearance, Sparks Lip Sync Controversy at American Music Awards

Source: Saving Our Daughters / Radio One Atlanta On Wednesday March 14th, the girls of the Ron Clark Academy had an amazing, life changing experience as they walked onto the incredible set of the Fox television show STAR, co-created by Lee Daniels. The 5th-7th graders that participated in the special field trip are a part of the “Saving Our Daughter’s Cinderella” program, which was co-founded by actress and singer, Keke Palmer back in 2014. Ms. Palmer is also a guest star on the STAR TV series. The visit was coordinated by the producer’s assistant, Erica Young. In addition to setting up a tour of the stages and sets, she arranged for a Q&A with some of the women that play a part in the development of the show. Karen Gist (Show Runner), Jen Klein (Co-Producer/Writer), Toni Barton (Production Designer) and Aamina Gant (Music Coordinator) spoke to the RCA Cinderellas about what it is like to work on a television series, their professions and the life choices they made that led them to STAR. The Q&A was so informative and inspiring for the girls. “To see women working together, growing together and using their gifts and passions to create, build and maintain a hit show was amazing.” – Saving Our Daughters’ Co-Founder, Debbie Benjamin The girls had the pleasure of touring the entire set, meeting everyone from wardrobe, production design, construction and set decoration. They also got to watch the filming of a scene and learn about how food stylists prepare food for actors with allergies and restrictions. To end the trip with a bang, Queen Latifah came out to encourage the girls, take photos and gave hugs to each girl. “The Saving Our Daughters organization would like to thank Ms. Erica Young for such a life changing experience for our RCA Cinderellas and we are looking forward to catching the return of season 2 of STAR, on March 28 th .” – Saving Our Daughters Chief Executive Officer, Curtis Benjamin What some of the RCA Cinderellas had to say on their STAR Visit; Anita 7 th Grade I just really wanted to thank you guys for giving me this opportunity to experience a different perspective of show biz. I never knew how many teams that worked behind the scenes. There is literally a place where they make fake shrimp and fried chicken! I saw how people that worked in some of those departments had to be quick on their feet and how they worked with such a short period of time especially when something has to change after all the time that was spent on a certain part of the project. There were so many different working parts. There are more than 200 staff members that work daily. It just shows how everyone plays a part in the production. I also found it really cool how we got to see little behind the scene secrets like moving walls. It was so cool. I am just so grateful that I got the opportunity to visit. Thank you! Iva 5 th Grade Thank you so much for the behind the scenes experience at the set of Star! Just from the sets to the costumes to meeting Queen Latifah was absolutely astonishing! I loved how everyone had their part in putting together the amazing production. I even got chills telling my mother about all the fun and interesting things that happened! Thank you so much! Zoe 5 th Grade While we witnessed how and where Star is filmed, I learned so many new things. First off, I discovered so many jobs other than acting or directing. I will never watch T.V. in the same way because I know that there is so much work that goes into every part. Joy 5 th Grade Thank you so much for inviting me to tour the set of Star. Not many people get to experience this at such a young age and the fact that I was chosen for such a special opportunity makes feel me incredibly thankful. It was so amazing to see the detail that is poured into the show. From a life-size picture of the street to homemade tofu beignets. It was absolutely mind blowing. When we saw the recreation of the Tabernacle, I thought it was awesome how they could see something and bring it to life. It looked so realistic! But the best part of all… I was able to meet Queen Latifah herself!

Florida is a weird place in so many ways. Remember a few years back, when the news was talking about people getting high on “bath salts” and eating each other’s faces ? That was Florida. But it’s no longer only in Florida. One designer drug from that family of stimulants, called Flakka, is making headlines again in other states. And every story seems more bonkers than the last. A couple of years ago, we told you about a Florida Man high on Flakka and streaking while believing that he’s being chased… but what is Flakka? Because as entertained as we are by Riverdale ‘s drug storyline about “jingle-jangle” this season, we don’t normally expect for serious drugs to have such whimsical names off of The CW’s teen dramas. Flakka is a designer drug. It’s a stimulant, also known as alpha-pvp (which sounds like an energy drink marketed to gamer bros), that belongs to the “bath salts” family. The small pink crystals can be snorted, injected, or smoked. But that doesn’t mean that it should. The issue with this type of stimulant is that delirium, violence, and erratic behavior can be the result. Particularly if someone even slightly overdoses. Most of us think of bath salts and go “oh, that’s so 2015 — it’s almost 2018 and it’s all about opioids,” but they’re making a resurgence. And despite the public association between Flakka and Florida, the designer drug is making headlines beyond America’s fetid peninsula, in places like Oklahoma, Kansas, Missouri, and Arkansas. A former narcotics investigator named Jason Grellner, who is now the safety and security manager at Mercy Hospital, warns Fox News about increasing ER visits believed to have been caused by Flakka. “What we see in the emergency department at Mercy is people brought in by private ambulance or law enforcement who are having a full-blown episode.” And he says that these drugs don’t just send people to the ER — they also make patients more difficult to treat. “The nursing and physician staffs are in danger from these patients.” Again, we’re talking about people who might suddenly have violent impulses and serious delusions. Also, it’s incredibly difficult to diagnose. “There’s no blood test or urine test, no way for physicians to know what the user has actually ingested. They have to treat the patient symptomatically and monitor them constantly for their mental and physical states.” And he even speaks to what patients might be experiencing: “They’re seeing double, they’re seeing dragons. They believe wholeheartedly that it’s actually occurring.” That might sound like a fun adventure, but hallucinations and delusions can lead people to harm themselves, to harm others, and generally get themselves into a whole heap of trouble. Like the Florida Man we mentioned who believed so strongly that he was being chased that he fled and refused to stop … or put on any clothes. Another man tried to break into a police station because, in his delusional state, he thought that he was being pursued. So most people aren’t hallucinating anything as fun or whimsical as dragons, folks. It sounds like Flakka takes their worst anxieties and makes them real. And we think that the four people who made headlines this month in Missouri probably didn’t have as good of a time as they’d hoped. The four of them were disrobing in the streets, barking, and breaking into multiple businesses and also into people’s homes while just completely out of their dang minds. Two of them needed to be rushed to the hospital. Flakka is hitting hard in rural communities that lack the resources or experience to deal with — or even recognize — the problem. One Tennessee precinct ran out of taser cartridges. Some residents in some areas call the police because they believe that conspirators are hiding in trees. View Slideshow: Florida Man: 21 Ways in Which He Actually Got Arrested Arresting people who are in delusional states can also be dangerous for everyone involved, as the people on Flakka may believe that the police are there to hurt them. You might think that the government response would be to make sure that dosages are carefully prescribed so that people don’t overdose. And perhaps for the government to provide (or businesses to provide) a safe environment for using them. Instead, the government has taken steps to limit distribution and to make taking Flakka and similar drugs illegal. That has not, historically, worked out so well.
