I think Michael Bay is planning not to release a movie, but instead just placate us with pictures of new cars and somehow turn that into millions of dollars in profit. So far, all we’ve seen from Transformers 4 is a series of nicely staged car pics. And here’s another! This one is a 2014 Argosy truck from Freightliner: Mark Wahlberg stars in the first film of the new action trilogy, with Kelsey Grammer taking the role of the main villain. Stanley Tucci, Nicola Peltz and Jack Reynor, Li Bingbing, and T.J. Miller also star. Michael Bay returns to direct the film, which will premiere June 27, 2014 (unless my car picture theory is correct, in which case it will premiere…NEVER!).
Fun fact: Michael Bay has only had two films reach above a 50% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. But when it comes to giant action flicks, there’s nobody….not better…what’s the word I’m looking for? Let’s go with “Explodier.” That’s why Bay is working with Ubisoft and Warner Bros. to develop a movie adaptation of the Ghost Recon video game. The director, who is currently working on Transformers 4 , may or may not direct the film. That all depends on what direction the screenwriter–yet to be found–decides to go with the project. Two other Ubisoft properties, Assassin’s Creed and Splinter Cell , are also in development as feature films at the moment. Who would your ideal director be for the Ghost Recon movie ?
We all remember Good Will Hunting as the touching drama about a troubled genius who works as a janitor (and something about apples, right?) The combination of an Oscar-winning script by Ben Affleck and Matt Damon , and Gus Van Sant , a director who, up to that point, had a career consisting of expert societal button-pushing, made magic. But as touching as the movie turned out, it’s important to note how different it could have been. Violently different. It’s well known that the original screenplay for Good Will Hunting was a thriller in which the genius main character was recruited by the FBI. Thank the gods that changed, but perhaps it was that genesis which led to Mel Gibson being first at bat to direct the film. Yep, it’s true. The news comes courtesy of Boston Magazine (via Movies.com ), which has published an extensive conversation with the cast and crew of the film in honor of its 15 th anniversary. Initially, Affleck and Damon, desperate to get the thing made, asked Kevin Smith if he’d direct it. Smith turned it down, but he passed the script to Harvey Weinstein , who positively flipped for it. From there, Gibson was brought into the project. “We met with Mel Gibson,” Affleck, who’s been doing a spot-on Weinstein impersonation since he made Good Will Hunting , said, “and Braveheart had just come out, and was as hot as could be. But we hadn’t seen Braveheart and Harvey was like, ‘YOU HAVEN’T SEEN BRAVEHEART? F*CKING LIE TO HIM AND TELL HIM YOU LOVE BRAVEHEART .’ So the first thing we said was, ‘We just want to tell you how much we loved Braveheart !’” Knowing what we now know about Mel’s mood swings, they probably made the right choice. Alas, a Gibsonized version of Good Will Hunting wasn’t in the cards. Mel dragged his feet developing the script for several months and Damon eventually had to ask the volatile filmmaker to let them take it elsewhere. “Matt at one point said directly to Gibson, “Look, man. We’re getting too old. If this keeps going by, Ben and I can’t play these parts. Is there any chance you’d just let it go?” And to Mel’s credit, he said, “I totally understand what you’re saying.” That was a real stand-up thing to do.” Well yeah, but Mel knows a thing or two about the dangers of getting too old for this shit. Obviously, this turned out to be for the best, at least if the film’s two Oscars are any measure. But I can’t help but feel that the world was denied something kind of magical on the day Gibson let them take their script to another director. Let’s have a moment of silence then, for the hyper-patriotic revenge obsessed version of Good Will Hunting that never happened. Her affair with Rupert Sanders has already taken a toll on her personal life, as Kristen Stewart finds herself reportedly single, unshowered and generally depressed. But a new report reveals a major professional consequence: the actress has been dropped from any subsequent Snow White and the Huntsman sequels. According to The Hollywood Reporter, a follow-up to this summer hit – if there is one – will now focus on Chris Hemsworth ‘s Huntsman instead of the beloved fairy tale character Stewart brought to life on the big screen. Though unconfirmed, it’s likely Sanders will return to direct the film. The original grossed nearly $400 million worldwide and Universal had strongly been considering plans for a sequel. In this same article, a spokesperson simply tells the trade that the “studio is currently exploring options to continue the franchise.” This move is likely to generate a great deal of controversy, especially if Sanders really is behind the camera for the sequel. Would an actor have been fired for having an affair? How can there be justification for letting Stewart go and not the married man who cheated on his wife? Sound off now, THGers: Is it fair to give Stewart the boot from Snow White?

Director behind ‘Water for Elephants’ and classic music videos is set to take over for Gary Ross. By Kara Warner Francis Lawrence Photo: Ian Gavan/ Getty Images Just last week, the “Hunger Games” fandom was sent into a bit of a tailspin when director Gary Ross announced he would not direct the film’s sequel , “Catching Fire.” Jaws dropped, heads were scratched and new names were thrown out and analyzed . Now, it appears Francis Lawrence will be stepping into Ross’ shoes to direct the highly anticipated sequel to the record-breaking first film. According to a very brief report from Deadline , Lionsgate has decided to go with Lawrence over “Moneyball” helmer Bennett Miller, the other recently rumored Ross replacement. There is no official word from the studio about the done deal, but by all appearances, they have found their man. For those not familiar with Lawrence’s r
‘The Wolf of Wall Street’ will be the DiCaprio and Scorsese’s fifth project together. By Jocelyn Vena Leonardo DiCaprio Photo: Kiyoshi Ota/ Getty Images After some stops and starts, it seems that Martin Scorsese ‘s “The Wolf of Wall Street” is in full “go” mode with his longtime leading man, Leonardo DiCaprio , locked in to star. According to Deadline , the film has yet to nail down a timeline for when it will shoot and get distribution, but DiCaprio and Scorsese felt that now was the right time to get cracking on the flick. The two have been trying to get it into production since 2007, but they separated to work on their own high-profile projects before deciding to work together again. At one point, Ridley Scott had been attached to direct the film, but that later shifted back to Scorsese . The film is based on the tell-all memoir written by Jordan Belfort, a drug-, sex- and alcohol-addicted stockbroker who landed in prison for refusing to cooperate in a 1990s securities fraud case. It’s a steamy story of his fall from a 20-something multimillionaire to a 30-something federal convict banned from the securities business for life. The film would focus on Belfort’s relationship with an FBI agent and his attempt to make him into an informant. In addition to their roles as director and actor, Scorsese and DiCaprio will also serve as producers on the film. Writer Terence Winter, known for his work with “The Sopranos” and “Boardwalk Empire,” is reportedly cleaning up the script before the film goes to production. This marks the fifth collaboration for Scorsese and DiCaprio, who have worked together in the past on “Gangs of New York,” “The Aviator,” “The Departed” and “Shutter Island.” For breaking news, celebrity columns, humor and more — updated around the clock — visit MTVMoviesBlog.com .
