Lauren Spierer Family Sues Three Men Last Seen With Missing Student

Lauren Spierer’s family has filed a lawsuit against three former college students who were the last people seen with the missing Indiana University student . Spierer, a sophomore at Indiana from Greenburgh, N.Y., disappeared two years ago in Bloomington, Ind., after a night of partying with friends and acquaintances. Robert and Charlene Spierer claim in a lawsuit that their daughter’s last known interaction with Corey Rossman, Mike Beth and Jay Rosenbaum is to blame. Her interaction with the three former students ultimately resulted in the 20-year-old’s “disappearance, death or injury,” according to attorney Jason Barclay. The complaint says the men’s negligence led to the disappearance of Lauren Spierer , which remains unsolved, according to state and local police. The lawsuit was filed last month in Monroe County, Ind. The complaint seeks a jury trial against the men, who are no longer students, and monetary damages. The family’s attorney said it was not a decision they made lightly, or one made with the presumption of anything more than the documents imply. “Rob and Charlene Spierer authorized the filing of this lawsuit with great reluctance and only after we counseled them that they would lose certain legal rights if not exercised by the two-year anniversary of Lauren’s disappearance,” Barclay said in a statement. “We hope no one will misinterpret this action. Any parent in search of information about a missing child would use every resource available to them,” he added. “Therefore, we intend to use the rights afforded by the civil justice system to obtain answers to questions that have gone unanswered for too long.” “We fully expect that those with relevant information will cooperate with this process.” Fox News interviewed the Spierers last month in an interview during which they expressed doubts the men were telling the truth about their daughter’s last hours. Robert Spierer, for his part, specifically said he is not convinced Lauren ever left the men’s apartment building, which was her last known stop that night.

Did You Know? NBC News Correspondent Richard Engel Has Been Missing In Syria For Over A Week!!!

Damn…we’re keepin’ this dude in our prayers . This doesn’t sound good at all and, according to The Daily Mail , the news of his disappearance has a lot of people worried: NBC News chief foreign correspondent Richard Engel, one of the most prominent and accomplished international correspondents in the world, is reportedly missing in Syria. Turkish newspaper Hurriyet reports that Engel, together with Turkish journalist Aziz Akyavaş, were last known to be in Syria and haven’t been in contact with NBC News since Thursday morning. While the Turkish media have been circulating the report for several days, American outlets had been operating under a news blackout requested by NBC until today. NBC colleague David Schuster is amongst those to have tweeted their concern about the missing journalist and author. Engels, who is divorced and doesn’t have children, was promoted to NBC News’s chief foreign correspondent in 2008. He runs NBC’s Middle East bureau and has been reporting on the ongoing conflict between rebels and forces backing Syrian President Bashar al-Assad. He last reported from inside Syria on December 11. He is also known as a regular Twitter user, but hasn’t tweeted since Dec 1. Engel is widely regarded for his coverage of wars, revolutions and political transitions around the world over the last 15 years. Most recently, he was recognized for his outstanding reporting on the 2011 revolution in Egypt, the conflict in Libya and unrest throughout the Arab world. We hope Engel and Akyavaş are ok. Drew Peterson Convicted of Murder

A jury convicted Drew Peterson of murdering his third wife Thursday, ending a five-year legal saga as confusing as it is complicated and cold-blooded. Peterson, 58, faces a 60-year sentence. Illinois has no death penalty. The prosecution built its case against Peterson, who the jury decided murdered his third wife, almost exclusively on circumstantial and hearsay evidence. That hearsay included testimony about what Peterson’s wives had told friends and acquaintances before the one died and the fourth wife disappeared. The verdict was a vindication for Will County prosecutors, who gambled by putting on an arguably shaky case and then committed numerous stumbles. Over the course of the investigation and prosecution, Peterson seemed to taunt authorities, joking on talk shows and appearing completely remorseless. The case, which even sparked a TV movie starring Parks & Rec ‘s Rob Lowe, began when a neighbor found Kathleen Savio’s dead body on March 1, 2004. The drowning death of the 40-year-old aspiring nurse was initially deemed an accident caused by a freak slip in the tub, but that theory soon evaporated. After Peterson’s fourth wife, 23-year-old Stacy Peterson, went missing in 2007, Savio’s body was exhumed, re-examined and re-classified as a homicide. Peterson divorced Savio a year before her death. His motive for killing her, prosecutors said, was fear that a pending settlement would run him financially. The 12 jurors, comprised of seven men and five women including a poet, a mail carrier and a man who said his favorite show was Criminal Minds , agreed. Officials also suspect he killed his fourth wife because she could finger him for Savio’s death; her family hopes he will be charged in Stacy’s disappearance. Jurors weren’t supposed to link the fourth wife’s disappearance to the third’s death, however, and Stacy was not part of the case prosecutors made. Prosecutors were prohibited from even telling jurors Stacy Peterson is presumed dead or that her husband is the lone suspect in her disappearance. He says she ran off with another man and is still alive. Additionally, prosecutors faced enormous hurdles, notably no physical evidence tying Peterson to Savio’s death and no witnesses placing him at the scene. They were forced to rely on typically barred hearsay – statements Savio made to others before she died and that Stacy Peterson made before she vanished. In 2008, Illinois passed a law tailored to Peterson’s case, dubbed “Drew’s Law,” permitting hearsay at trials in rare circumstances. It apparently paid off. Prosecutors also had to establish the most basic fact for a murder trial: that there was actually a murder, which some pathologists disputed in court. The last defense witness was Thomas Peterson, the 19-year-old son of Savio and Drew Peterson, who says he never believed for a second his father did it. Fascination with the former Bolingbrook, Ill., police sergeant arose from speculation that he used his law enforcement expertise to get away with murder. Peterson could still win release someday, as he has vowed to appeal all the way to the U.S. Supreme Court on grounds Illinois’ hearsay law is unconstitutional.

Surprise: Man Thought To Have Been Murked By Serial Killer John Wayne Gacy 34 Years Ago Is Found Alive!!

Damn… A man feared to have been murdered by a serial killer has been found alive after more than three decades, officials said Wednesday. Theodore Szal disappeared from the Chicago area in 1977 when he was 24, according to the Cook County Sheriff’s office in Illinois. His race, age and the date he vanished bore similarities to the 33 victims of serial killer John Wayne Gacy, eight of whom were never identified, leading his family to believe he was dead. On Wednesday, Cook County Sheriff Tom Dart announced Szal, 59, was found living in Beaverton, Ore. “I believe Christmas has come early for the Szal family,” said Dart in a statement. “Being able to tell an 88-year-old father that his son, whose picture he has been carrying around for 34 years in his breast pocket, has been found alive is something special.” Szal had decided to leave Illinois when he was 24, Dart said. He was going through a divorce, and wasn’t reported missing because he had a history of dinsengaging from his family for extended periods of time, reported NBCChicago.com. But when they didn’t hear from him for years, they worried he was dead. Szal’s vehicle had been found near O’Hare airport, close to Gacy’s house, according to NBCChicago.com, and he had a construction-related job at the time of his disappearance, fitting the description of the killer’s victims. Says the family about their long-lost relative: “While we are so relieved to have discovered that Ted is alive and well, our thoughts and prayers are also with the families of the victims – both known and yet to be determined – of John Wayne Gacy,” Szal’s family said in a statement. “We are so thankful to Cook County Sheriff Tom Dart and Detective Jason Moran. The work they are doing is meaningful and important. With the news they were able to bring us, we do ask that our privacy be respected while we sort through the next steps with our family. Thank you.” Wow, this makes for a very Merry Christmas indeed! Source More On Bossip! Vanessa Vs. People’s Court Scandal: Dale Smith Targeted By Police in Michelle Parker Disappearance

Michelle Parker and Dale Smith, a formerly engaged couple, appeared on the People’s Court earlier this month. After the show, Parker mysteriously vanished. Now Smith is in the wind as well, having just been named the primary suspect in her disappearance, according to Orlando, Fla., Police Chief Paul Rooney. Officials confirm Smith, who appeared with Michelle Parker on the show, arguing over the engagement ring he have her, is the target of the investigation. Chief Rooney says Smith refused to take a polygraph test in the case. Michelle Parker Disappearance Parker’s mother, Yvonne Stewart, made a plea during a Monday news conference: “If you could have avoided this Dale, if you had cooperated with the police and if you took a polygraph test when they asked you, you could have avoided a lot of stress.” “We’re not going to stop until we find out who did this,” she adds. According to public records, the pair was involved in a domestic violence case involving children in 2009. Parker and Smith have 3-year-old
