Bob Einstein Dies; Curb Your Enthusiasm Star & Super Dave Osborne Creator Was 76

Sad news out of Hollywood today, as actor and comedian Bob Einstein has passed away at the age of 76. Einstein was best known for his roles on Arrested Development  and Curb Your Enthusiasm , and as the creator of the popular character Super Dave Osborne. Reps for Einstein say that he had recently been diagnosed with cancer. Einstein was the older brother of comedy legend Albert Brooks who paid tribute on Twitter moments ago: “R.I.P. My dear brother Bob Einstein,” Brooks wrote. “A great brother, father and husband. A brilliantly funny man. You will be missed forever.” Einstein is likely best known to modern audiences for his recurring roles as Marty Funkhouser on Curb Your Enthusiasm and Larry Middleman on Curb Your Enthusiasm . But what younger fans might not realize is that he had been a fixture in Hollywood since the 1960s, when he got his start writing for the legendary Smothers Brothers Comedy Hour. Einstein was pursuing a career in advertising when Tom Smothers spotted him performing at an open mic night in Los Angeles. Smothers invited the 26-year-old to the set of his show, an opportunity that Einstein later said transformed his life. “Tom Smothers made our life by giving us that,” he stated in a 2017 interview. In the ’80s, Einstein created the Super Dave Osborne, a hapless stuntman character who made regular appearances on the TV show Bizarre, as well as on Late Night With David Letterman, before spawning his own series. Super Dave ran on Showtime from 1987-91. The character was revived for a Spike TV special in 2009. While he may not have been a household name to those outside of the entertainment industry, in the comedy world, Einstein was a bonafide legend. News of his passing has made Einstein a worldwide trending topic on Twitter, with thousands of tributes pouring in from family, friends, and fans. Einstein is survived by his wife Roberta Einstein, his daughter Erin Einstein Dale, and his two grandchildren, Ethan and Zoe. Our thoughts go out to his loved ones during this difficult time.

Y ep, all Black folks look alike according to media sources from  Fox News to The Hill. The Hill, a popular political outlet since 1994, covered Susan Rice , Obama’s former National Security Advisor, who is considering running against Maine GOP Sen. Susan Collins for the U.S. Senate. Collins voted for  Brett Kavanaugh  on the Supreme Court and has received tons of backlash because she is a woman who voted against a woman who was sexually assaulted. While covering the story, The Hill used a photo of Condoleezza Rice , who was Secretary of State under President  George W. Bush . One user wrote , “somebody googled ‘Black Rice’ Condeleeza’s picture came up.” Another tweeted , “Don’t they have fact checkers, or editors, or I dunno, any Black people on staff over there?” Maybe this will further inspire Susan Rice to run against Collins. In case you missed it, Obama’s former White House Communications Director Jen Psaki tweeted, “who wants to run for Senate in Maine? there will be an army of supporters with you.” Rice replied, “Me.” Me https://t.co/93qNxN7Ky9 — Susan Rice (@AmbassadorRice) October 5, 2018 Don’t get too excited. According to ABC News , Rice spoke at a panel during The New Yorker Festival and said, “I made the tweet, I later elaborated that this wasn’t where my head was.” She continued, “But I have been moved by the enthusiasm. I’m going to give it due consideration after the midterms.” Nonetheless, The Hill, Fox News and everyone else who think all Black folks look alike need to do better. Disney Will Give Ewan McGregor A ‘Star Wars’ Spinoff (And If That Jedi Mind Trick Doesn’t Work, It Should)

Now that Ewan McGregor has voiced his enthusiasm for playing Obi-Wan Kenobi again, Disney should make it so. The actor, who’s out promoting Jack The Giant Slayer told MTV News that he thought reprising his role as the Jedi Master was “a good idea” and had clearly done some thinking about where an Obi-Wan standalone movie could fit into the about-to-be-rebooted  Star Wars franchise — the gap between Episode III and IV “before Alec Guinness, there’s that period where he’s in the desert….That might be my window there, to tell that story.”  McGregor said that he didn’t know what Obi-Wan actually did in the desert, but added: “We could make up some stuff.” Actually, there are plenty of sanctioned Star Wars stories that cover Kenobi’s time in exile in the Tatooine desert  — some of which have him communing with the spirit of his mentor, Qui-Gonn Jinn (who was played by Liam Neeson in Episode I ) — so the writers wouldn’t have to star from scratch. But even if there wasn’t all that material out there, bringing McGregor back is an excellent idea. Although I’d love to see Harrison Ford  finally get his Han Solo death scene, Disney clearly wants these new Star Wars movies to appeal to young demographics, and there’s nothing musty or dusty about McGregor. He’s one of the finest actors of his generation, and, with the exception of the emotional climactic scenes of Episode III , his talents were largely wasted in the Star Wars prequel trilogy.  An Obi-Wan standalone movie could not only right that wrong but add a cinematic backstory to the character that would give Guinness’ performance in Episode IV  even more dramatic heft. What do you think, Star Wars fans?  Let me know in the comments, and while you’re mulling it over, here’s the clip of McGregor voicing his enthusiasm for picking up the lightsaber again. George P. Bush to Run For Office in Texas

George P. Bush, the son of Jeb Bush, nephew of George W. Bush and grandson of George H.W. Bush, has filed to run for office in the state of Texas. The 36-year-old Bush has made a campaign filing in Texas that is required of candidates planning to run for state office, an official said Thursday night. A Fort Worth resident, he filed a campaign treasurer appointment Wednesday, a requirement for someone to become a candidate under campaign finance law. The report does not specify what office George P. Bush might seek, if any, and there were no other details on the filing, which wasn’t available online. In September, he did acknowledge his goal was to run for office in the near future and confirmed that he had his eyes on several statewide offices. Raised in Florida, where his dad was governor, Bush decided to settle in Texas, home to his uncle and his grandfather, former President George H.W. Bush. He runs a consulting firm and has been active in Republican Party outreach to college students. He’s also the co-founder of Hispanic Republicans of Texas. Jeb Bush married Columba Garnica Gallo, a Mexican-born philanthropist, in 1974. They also have another son, Jeb Jr., and a daughter, Noelle. Ana Navarro, who was the national Hispanic co-chairwoman for John McCain when he ran for president in 2008, tweeted her enthusiasm Thursday: “Wrote check for my friend, @georgepbush newly formed exploratory committee for office in TX. Young, pragmatic, Hispanic, just what GOP needs.” Bush and his wife, Amanda, met while attending law school at the University of Texas. After working as a lawyer, Bush became a partner in a real estate investment firm. He has started his second company, St. Augustine Partners, a business consulting firm aimed at small- and medium-market energy industries. Bush also has Navy service on his resume, including a six-month deployment to Afghanistan, where, for security purposes, he was given a different name. Not even those he was serving alongside knew he was a Bush.

Helen Hunt on Her Full- Frontal Sessions: "I Loved It and Felt Liberated by It"

You know how actresses are always talking about how they’d go nude “for the right role”? Although she admits she was uncomfortable with nudity earlier in her career, for 49-year-old Helen Hunt , The Sessions (2012) was it. ” I’d never heard of a sex surrogate, and I didn’t even think about it, frankly — I just thought, I never read a good movie, and this is a good movie ,” Helen tells New York Magazine’s Vulture about her racy role. ” She had this enthusiasm and this sense of adventure about sex, and I’d never seen anything like it. ” ” I could tell [writer-director Ben Lewin ] had an interesting take on the whole thing,” Helen says about her choice to go full frontal for the first time in her career. “I felt scared to do the part, but I didn’t feel scared of [nudity]. ” Not that it was easy: ” I had to be vulnerable for so long…I loved it and felt liberated by it, but by the twelfth hour, I just wanted to be in my sweatpants, in my zip-up hoodie, socks on my feet, eating an In-N-Out burger in my bed, ” she says. So should young actresses take on roles that require nudity? ” You gotta pay your rent ,” Helen says. ” You gotta pay your rent, and you have to feel good about your choices, you know what I mean? So wherever you can find the balance between those two things, that’s the line you have to draw. ” It’s been fifteen years since the last time we saw Helen Hunt nude in Then She Found Me (2007), so take a stroll down mammary lane with pics and clips right here at MrSkin.com!

REVIEW: Dogme 95 Meets The Hangover in Startlingly Funny Klown

Like so many of the R-rated comedies of Judd Apatow and Todd Phillips, the Danish film  Klown is about men behaving amusingly badly while the women in their lives wait on the sidelines for them to grow up and get their act together. In  Klown , however, the ladies have a pretty good case for just walking away, and a certain resignation in their attitudes suggests they know it, but have already put so much time into these relationships that they feel terminally invested. Directed by Mikkel Nørgaard and based on a  2005-2009 TV series of the same name that you need know nothing about to appreciate the film,  Klown is the story of besties Frank (Frank Hvam) and Casper (Casper Christensen) and the camping trip they’ve planned together that’s actually an excuse for Casper to sleep around and Frank to attempt to prove he’s fit for fatherhood. It’s startlingly funny in an uncomfortable, envelope-pushing way that’s all the more effective for how it sneaks up on you — its shocking gags are folded into a low-key, semi-realistic style like a Dogme 95 take on  The Hangover . Frank is the petulant, awkward half of  Klown ‘s central friendship, while Casper is the outgoing horndog, and however long the pair have been pals, there are few boundaries between them. The vacation they’ve planned strategically involves a canoe, because, as Casper explains, his girlfriend Iben ( High Fidelity ‘s Iben Hjejle) would never want to come along on a canoe trip and so she won’t be around to prevent his running wild. Their end goal is a party being thrown by their friend Bent (musician/composer Bent Fabricius-Bjerre, playing, like most everyone else in the film, a  Curb Your Enthusiasm -style gloss on his real-life self) for which prostitutes from around the world are flown in for a once-a-year bacchanal. But then Frank learns from a friend that his girlfriend Mia (Mia Lyhne) is pregnant, and that she hasn’t told him because, as she puts it, “I worry you don’t have enough potential as a father.” She has reason for concern — and Frank’s plan to prove her wrong involves spontaneously and ill-advisedly taking Bo (Marcuz Jess Petersen), Mia’s 12-year-old nephew left in their care while his newly remarried mother is on her honeymoon, with them on what Casper has given the child-unfriendly name of the “Tour de Pussy.” Near the start of the film,  Klown winkingly places its main characters at a book  club meeting in which the novel chosen is  Heart of Darkness  (neither Frank nor Casper did the reading). But our two heroes aren’t journeying into the forbidding unknown — they’re the agents of chaos, bringing entertaining disaster to everyone they encounter, from a group of high school students on a field trip to a woman who takes them in and feeds them after their boat capsizes.  Klown has a looseness to it that can feel improvised, but many of its jokes reveal themselves to be carefully structured, from one that plays off of Casper’s technique of male flirting to get his way (he matter-of-factly insists to Frank that all men are a little gay) to another involving the single-serving bottles of Underberg liquor the pair are constantly downing. Tubby, solemn Bo is no adorable sidekick, and Frank’s no natural with kids, and his attempts to entertain the boy go wincingly poorly. When there is the odd moment of sweetness, it’s disarmingly off-kilter, as when Frank consoles Bo about the fact that for guys with their build, their tummy fat can make their penises look smaller. Frank’s fitness for fatherhood comes down to a genuine question about whether he’ll ever be able to put the well-being of someone else before his own, and while he means well, poor Bo rarely seems in safe hands throughout the trip. The kid gets humiliated, neglected and endangered, but also gets an instance or two of giddy, well-earned, irresponsible joy — it’s thanks to him that the film can find something touching about the act of peeing while standing up. Are there lessons to be learned in  Klown ? Thank god, no, though Frank does experience a smidgen of hard-won growth while Casper remains gleefully unchanged (Christensen is the film’s comedic stand-out, his smirkingly slick persona landing him in outrageously humiliating situations). It’s hard to call the film a tribute to male friendship when it presents guy-bonding time as all an excuse to get smashed, hit on teenagers and bang one’s way through multiple continents worth of hookers, but it does touch on the dread of getting older and the desire to hold on to both the feckless kid you were while also being the grown-up you inarguably have become, one that can lead to some lousy decisions. One of the film’s best and most hilarious moments comes after a rough night for both of the characters that ends in a jaw-dropping reveal. Reunited, the two walk through the campsite determinedly  not talking about what they’ve each been through. Sometimes friendship means sticking by someone, and other times it mean knowing when to just let things be. Klown is in theaters in New York, Los Angeles, Austin and on VOD Friday. To Woody With Love: Woody Allen’s 9 Most Entertaining On-Screen Surrogates

Woody Allen has cemented an historic onscreen legacy by managing to play a grand total of one single character for the last 47 years. (What versatility!) Needless to say, it’s been one hell of a character: Allen’s extreme version of himself, trading on some of the most base cultural stereotypes out there about New Yorkers, Jews and intellectuals, has, logically or not, repeatedly held mainstream America’s interest. Yet, in a halfhearted nod to the idea of variety, Allen hasn’t always played the character himself – due to the constraints of age, style, and physical type, he’s occasionally enlisted actors to come in and do their best Woody Allen imitation over the years. With a new addition to the coterie coming in To Rome With Love – Jesse Eisenberg is a neo-Woody if ever there was one – it’s worthwhile to take a look back at Allen’s nine most entertaining surrogates. Kenneth Branagh, Celebrity Could the staid, withdrawn nature of British mores and culture – or those of the Irish, for that matter – be any further from the traits needed to play the Woody character effectively? It seems like a counterintuitive choice, but going with Branagh for the Woody surrogate in Celebrity (one of Allen’s more underappreciated films) was a smart choice; Branagh’s natural composure collides in an interesting way with the foregone conclusion of the character’s neuroses and tics. The result is a performance where Branagh is restrained on the surface while seemingly jittery and anxious underneath – a more subtle and surprisingly effective way of making Allen’s comedy work. Jason Biggs, Anything Else One of Allen’s most maligned pictures, it’s this writer’s contention that Anything Else has received an undeservedly bad rap. Sure, the chemistry between Biggs and Christina Ricci is closer to producing liquid nitrogen than hot sparks, but there’s plenty of great one-liners, and Allen himself steals the show. Biggs, one of the least skilled actors to portray a Woody alter ego, is nevertheless entertaining in a performance that paints the character in even broader, more direct strokes than Woody’s on-the-nose performances normally do. It’s as far from subtle as can be, but the broadness and directness of Biggs’ choices sometimes serves to let the delivery of Allen’s bon mots swing for the fences. Larry David, Whatever Works Could there be a more appropriate Allen surrogate under the sun than uber-neurotic Larry David? The cultural connection between the two couldn’t be more apparent; Seinfeld and Curb Your Enthusiasm could never have been seen as potentially viable in mainstream America without Allen’s career success. Giving his performance far more vitriol than what Allen is capable of, David revels in the misanthropy that is present, but often more subtly disguised, in Allen’s films. John Cusack, Bullets Over Broadway This is what happens when a talented, popular actor really uses their likability to channel the Woody character well. As famous as Allen is, his character’s narcissism (as well as his personal transgressions later in life) can make him difficult for audiences to root for at times. Cusack blended the typical Woody persona with his own undeniable charm to create a character who, when in a tough spot, you can’t help but empathize with. That would be good if this was a simple relationship film, but when Cusack’s character is getting into danger by dealing with gangsters, it’s more than good – it’s great.
