EST : Despite the former writer’s claims, Sesame Workshop released a statement saying Bert & Ernie were just best friends: “They were created to teach preschoolers that people can be good friends with those who are very different from themselves. Even though they are identified as male characters and possess many human traits, and characteristics (as most  Sesame Street  Muppets do), they remain puppets and do not have a sexual orientation.” — Everything you thought you knew (or didn’t know) about Bert and Ernie on Sesame Street as a child has just been confirmed by one of the show writers: They were gay.   Sign Up For Our Newsletter! Mark was Ernie, and Arnold was Bert. If you remember, Bert & Ernie were roommates at the 123 Sesame Street apartment. They always slept in separate beds, but they also always went back and forth with each other like couples tend to do.   Saltzman, who was already with his partner before he became a Sesame Street writer, says he didn’t know else to write them, “but as a loving couple.” Follow @TheRSMS Saltzman on speculation around Bert and Ernie back in the day…   I remember one time that a column from ‘The San Francisco Chronicle,’ a preschooler in the city turned to mom and asked “are Bert & Ernie lovers?” And that, coming from a preschooler was fun. And that got passed around, and everyone had their chuckle and went back to it. And I always felt that without a huge agenda, when I was writing Bert & Ernie, they were. I didn’t have any other way to contextualize them. The other thing was, more than one person referred to Arnie & I as “Bert & Ernie.” Saltzman on ways Bert and Ernie’s scenes reflected his relationship… How could it not permeate? The things that would tick off Arnie would be the things that would tick off Bert. How could it not? I will say that I would never have said to the head writer, “oh, I’m writing this, this is my partner and me.” But those two, Snuffalupagus, because he’s the sort of clinically depressed Muppet…you had characters that appealed to a gay audience. And Snuffy, this depressed person nobody can see, that’s sort of Kafka! It’s sort of gay closeted too. The writer says his personal relationship embodied the Bert & Ernie relationship. “I wrote sketches. Arnie’s OCD would create friction with how chaotic I was. And that’s the Bert & Ernie dynamic,” he said.   Need a refresher on that dynamic? Backtrack BLVD: Bert And Ernie Confirmed Gay By Writer, Sesame Street Immediately Refutes

Image via Revierfoto/picture alliance via Getty Images Bert And Ernie Confirmed As Gay Couple Welp, you can stop the conspiracy theories . It’s official. According to TMZ , old school Sesame Street writer Mark Saltzman recently revealed to Queerty that beloved Sesame Street couple, Bert and Ernie, are indeed a couple! Saltzman began writing for the show in 1984, several years after its 1969 inception. But he says that it wasn’t about pushing a “gay agenda”, he wrote the characters to reflect his own personal relationship. Ok, so we have to address—that’s the big question, right? In the writer’s room, you’re all adults. Were you thinking of Bert & Ernie as a gay couple? Did that question ever come up? I remember one time that a column from The San Francisco Chronicle, a preschooler in the city turned to mom and asked “are Bert & Ernie lovers?” And that, coming from a preschooler was fun. And that got passed around, and everyone had their chuckle and went back to it. And I always felt that without a huge agenda, when I was writing Bert & Ernie, they were. I didn’t have any other way to contextualize them. The other thing was, more than one person referred to Arnie & I as “Bert & Ernie.” Saltzman goes on to explain: So you’re saying that Bert & Ernie became analogs for your relationship in a lot of ways? Yeah. Because how else? That’s what I had in my life, a Bert & Ernie relationship. How could it not permeate? The things that would tick off Arnie would be the things that would tick off Bert. How could it not? I will say that I would never have said to the head writer, “oh, I’m writing this, this is my partner and me.” But those two, Snuffalupagus, because he’s the sort of clinically depressed Muppet…you had characters that appealed to a gay audience. And Snuffy, this depressed person nobody can see, that’s sort of Kafka! It’s sort of gay closeted too. There you have it ladies and gentlemen, and gender non-binary, and queer and all the other letters. Straight from the horses mouth. Congrats to the happy couple for finally being able to live their truth. Peep what Sesame Street had to say about this revelation on the next page…

Fefe Dobson Haunts Her Ex In ‘Ghost’ Video — Watch It Here!

The rocker says that she is trying to make her forthcoming full-length Joy a ‘perfect’ album. By Mawuse Ziegbe Fefe Dobson in “Ghost” Photo: Universal Music Canada Fefe Dobson’s latest video has a very clear message: If you cheat, your ex will make your life miserable. In “Ghost,” the rocker sticks up for scorned girlfriends everywhere as she harasses her ex after catching him with another lady. True to the song’s title, Dobson haunts her bad-boy boo, popping up everywhere from the ceiling of his bedroom to the front seat of his ride. “Ghost” was directed by Alan Ferguson, who has shot videos for the likes of Katy Perry and Fall Out Boy. Dobson gushed to MTV News that the director is “unbelievable and super talented” and that she had wanted to work with him for a while. The two were apparently completely in sync when it came to certain scenes in the video — like the one where she’s haranguing her ex from above. “Alan Ferguson called me and we were talking about it on the phone. I was like, ‘I see myself upside down.’ And he was like, ‘That’s crazy, ’cause I saw you upside down in my head too,’ ” Dobson said. Dobson also said the heat really got turned up when she filmed in front a blazing mattress . “There’s a scene where I’m standing in front of a burning bed. It was really burning — it wasn’t a green screen. I was like, ‘I’m not gonna do this!’ and I hear [the director] going, ‘Get in front of the bed!’ “she recalled. “I didn’t want to do it but I did it. I didn’t, you know, get set on fire — which is important!” Dobson hasn’t dropped an album since her self-titled 2003 debut. She chalked up the break to the fact that she spent the last few years making sure that her latest effort, Joy , is just right. “It took so long because I wanted to make it perfect,” said Dobson. “I’m one of those people that I make a song … then I write another song and then I’m like, ‘But this song is so much better than this song,’ and then I kind of ditch that song. It’s a long process.” What do you think of Fefe Dobson’s “Ghost” video? Let us know in the comments below! Related Videos MTV News First: Fefe Dobson
