‘Hustlers’ Star KeKe Palmer Finally Embraces Vampy Lipstick, Eyes Marvel Universe

Source: GEOFF ROBINS / Getty Keke Palmer is living her best life! When the 26-year-old triple threat isn’t busy sharing co-hosting duties on Strahan, Sara and Michael , she’s working on other projects in TV, film and social media. Her most recent foray onto the big screen is Hustlers , female-helmed stripper revenge drama that also stars Jennifer Lopez, Cardi B, Constance Wu, and Lizzo. Palmer plays Mercedes, a crafty comedic vixen who is down with the #GirlGang of strippers hustling unwitting clients out of money.  Hustlers is in theaters today, and we got to briefly chat Palmer about preparing for the film, her NYFW debut, comedic aspirations, and how the Marvel Universe would be a good look for her! Hello Beautiful: Tell me about Mercedes and what attracted you to the role? Keke Palmer: What attracted me was that when I read some of her lines, I felt like she was a bit of a comic relief, and I really love and have been excited in the past few years with just my skits on my [social media], and just really going into comedy and embracing that aspect of myself. So, I was excited about the opportunity to showcase some of that, but then also just the entire group of women that I would be working with. The director was great. This is a movie that’s very gag-worthy where it’s like, strippers and Jennifer Lopez! Yes! But then to meet her and to know that it’s a movie that had depth, that the production also put women in a very powerful position and that it was going to be very cinematic; I was like, okay, I really want to be a part of this!  HB: Your character didn’t have any pole routines, but I heard you went and took some classes at Foxy Fitness in Manhattan. Is that true?  KP: Yes. HB: Did you train with Ashley Fox?  KP: I did go there but I feel bad that I don’t remember the girl’s name, but I did go there. I know that Foxy Fitness is where we went and did a training class. I just wanted to try it because so often people at say that it’s such a good workout and there’s also so much fun. So I was just like in my life. I’ve been trying to make time to go to one and when I did the movie I said, they’ve got somebody that’s doing classes. I might as well just go and so me and Lili [Reinhart] went and we had a blast, but it was not easy. HB: Did you learn anything about the pole community that you didn’t know before?  KP: I think I really understood that pole dancing is a true art. Even if you are a stripper in the club, it doesn’t mean you know how to pole dance. That’s something that some girls never learn or never play with. So for me, I was just like, if you’re a pole answer you are dope!  HB: Okay, so you had a big moment at NYFW. You walked your first runway with cornrows and red lipstick. So what did that mean to you? What does that mean for the brown girls out there who might still be afraid to wear red lipstick or think that brains can’t be chic?  KP: We got to step into ourselves and own ourselves, which I think many of us do! This is the thing, people might have comments about your hair being this way or being that way, but I think the real point is that it’s about what you think. So if you’re not into something then cool, that’s your prerogative, but we can’t do it based off of what other people think about us. And I think the most beautiful thing about you is what is uniquely you. I did the big chop a couple of years ago and embracing my natural curls and finding ways to compliment them has been such an amazing and empowering journey for me because don’t nobody have this hair! This is my journey. Just don’t get to a place where you feel like what you have already isn’t good and like you have to fix it. HB: So speaking of hair, I heard you know how to do hair like with sewins and what not!  KP: Yup, I do!  HB: Do you know how to braid too?  KP: Yep. HB: With extensions?  KP: I do know how to braid with extensions, but I need to get better at tucking.  HB: So let’s say you’re going on vacation soon and don’t feel like dealing with your hair. What would be your go-to braided style? KP: I would just do two braids.  HB: With hair added or just natural?  KP: I would do it with my natural hair, especially if I’m on vacation. Who the hell I’m tryna impress [laughs]? I’m on vacation love, two braids! And then if I had somebody do it, I might do individuals. Braids are always a perfect go-to.  HB: Absolutely and they last forever. Well not forever— KP: But they do, somewhat!  HB: Going back to red lipstick, what’s your favorite red right now? KP: I used to feel like yuck about dark colors, but not because of my complexion, because sometimes I felt like it aged me. I always try to keep a very youthful type of look, but I’ve learned different ways to rock red lips that have made me feel like, okay, this is a moment. This is how I pull the look together. I think really figuring out, you know, maybe I don’t go heavy on the eyeshadow, maybe I do something lighter, or maybe just an eyeliner is what I need and sometimes  I’m not going to go too heavy on the contour but I’ll go heavier on the lip. It’s about finding different ways to enhance it. I think because a red lip, I don’t care what comes out you are. It’s always strong color in matching it and figure out what it looks good with. HB: Back on a more serious note, how do you feel about black female visibility in the media right now?  I feel like It’s always changing. It’s always Ebbs and flows. I feel like sometimes it’s what you seek out. It depends on what you’re looking for; if you’re looking for something that’s commercial. We don’t always see that Black Panther moment [but] I want to be the kind of person that says I’m happy we’re getting a Harriet Tubman film. I’m happy that Viola Davis has her own hit show. I’m happy that Will Smith broke the record on Netflix. There are great people out there that are representing and getting major platforms to do it, but of course, at the end of the day, the more people that we can have of color, of more diversity, the better. We can have men and women, young and old, Black and White. That way, more our stuff is going to look realistic to the world. If we only have certain people that are putting the movies together and putting the music together, putting the Fashion shows together, they’re not going to relate to as much to the other groups that are being ignored. I want more representation to be behind the scenes because if they’re behind the scenes then we’re going to see it in front.  HB: It’s funny you mentioned a Black Panther moment because I high Key want you to be part of the Marvel Universe. I want you to play Madam Slay or something!   KP: O h my God! I would love to be a part of Marvel! And you know I’m with Disney now, girl!  That would be a dream. I would love to do an action movie.  HB: What are some other types of roles are you looking forward to?    KP: I’m definitely in the bag of comedies and action. I’m loving to do that kind of thing or a coming of age story, like to put you in the mind of an everyday movie. So often, especially as black people, we either do something very dramatic or it’s just funny, but it’s never like Bridget Jones’s Diary or the kind of movies that Jennifer Aniston. We don’t often get those kinds of things from the perspective of, I’m just a Black woman living life and that’s why I’m excited for Issa Rae’s new movie, The Photograph because I think it’s going to be just a day in the life. You know, I want to see Black women, just everyday Black women. I also really love Taraji’s What Women Want. I love those kinds of movies where it’s just like this just a story, that’s just how life is, it’s just a vibe. That’s something I’m very interested in giving especially to the millennial, young adult a generation.   HB: You mentioned the sketches you do online earlier, and I’ve seen some on Instagram. It’s so unique because you only have a certain amount of time to convey your message so talk about why you’ve opened yourself to that lane as an actress?    KP: [Social Media] is a very powerful tool because in this industry, especially knowing how it is with traditional talent, it’s kind of hard because there’s only so much you can do when it comes to people seeing you for a role. And, wanting to produce things takes a lot of time. When I produced Pimp, that took us almost six years. So social media is something that you can do quick and fast and you can create an avenue for yourself that maybe the industry doesn’t see for you and you can actually accumulate data and proof that it works and you can learn your audience and then it becomes easier when you go to knock down the door. A s a creative rebel was just saying that this is what I want to do. I had no platform to really do it other than this one so I’m going to do it. And at first, people didn’t know what was going on when I did, “The gag is!” or when I did, “Southern Belles.” It was something that they didn’t expect but it’s  just me expressing myself, following my audience and just really trying to entertain and also have fun doing it.  RELATED POSTS GET THE LOOK: Keke Palmer’s Black and Neon Style Won’t Set You Back One Month’s Rent Money! #BasketballWives: Evelyn Is Picking Fights With Jennifer (AGAIN) And Getting DRAGGED To Hell For It

Source: VH1 / VH1 Evelyn Fights With Jennifer Again This new episode of Basketball Wives was full of drama, emotional goodbyes and rekindled feuds. First, let’s give a shout out to Tami , who, after a decade of trailblazing on the show, has decided to call it quits and move on. Golf claps for Tami! Now let’s get to the drama. Jennifer was the butt of the shade this week as she got confronted (some say bullied, even) over the fact she had Evelyn and Malaysia’s pics posted up on IG after her charity event. This is where Evelyn shade comes in: she suggests reposting the pic and taking Jennifer out. She also is part of the crew not wanting Jennifer to be at Shaunie’s opening in Costa Rica. This all led to people wondering why Evelyn is bringing up old stuff with Jennifer again. When Jennifer asks about being cropped out the pic, Evelyn brings up the time Jen talked about Shaniece from AGES ago. Again. This all led to Jennifer leaving the situation and Evelyn and OG arguing over…toes? WTF. #BasketballWives #BBWLA So now Evelyn has a problem with Jennifer all over again!! pic.twitter.com/namB6eh6W6 — CaptnOfDaCooLKidz (@ICanOnlyBeChino) September 12, 2019 Either way, Evelyn caught the brunt of the social media wrath because people are wondering why she is bringing up old fights with Jennifer. Wasn’t fighting with OG and making Jackie take a lie detector enough? Damn. Peep the dragging that commenced.

Too Far? 50 Cent Makes Vicious Comment About Michael Jackson While Responding To Paris Jackson

See the rest here:

A ll is fair in love and clap back for 50 Cent . And the rapper renowned for his pettiness recently took to an extreme when responding to Paris Jackson about her father, Michael Jackson . See Also:  ‘I Thought It Was A Hoax’: Sparkle Talks R. Kelly’s Marriage To Aaliyah The budding feud apparently first started when 50 Cent posted a video to his Instagram with the following caption: “A ll I’m saying is I never seen MJ come out like this.” View this post on Instagram All I’m saying is I never seen MJ come out like this A post shared by 50 Cent (@50cent) on Sep 5, 2019 at 7:02am PDT   That prompted Paris Jackson, 21, to respond from her verified account: “true legends don’t need to exert outrageous amounts of energy just to grasp your attention. stillness, my friend. stillness. more power in stillness than you can probably understand.” When the 44-year-old rapper apparently took offense at Paris’ remark, he went there. “Why am I the bad guy, I understand how you feel Paris, but does anyone care about how the little boys butts feels,” 50 wrote. Paris Jackson had yet to respond to 50’s lewd and unfounded allegations as of Saturday morning. In 1993, Michael Jackson was accused of molesting a 13-year-old boy named Jordan Chandler. In January of 1994, he reportedly settled for $23 million. The accuser’s father committed suicide in 2009, five months after the singer died. Chandler reportedly has never come forward about the allegations and supposedly lives outside of the country. In 2017, when Wade Robson, a choreographer who is featured in “Leaving Neverland,” accused Michael Jackson of sexual assault—even though he’d said in the past the singer didn’t assault him. In 2003, Michael Jackson was charged with seven counts of child molestation and two counts of administering an intoxicating agent to a 13-year-old boy. He was ultimately acquitted of all charges. Robson testified at the 2003 trial, but James Safechuck , the other person featured in “Leaving Neverland,” did not. Many people have maintained the documentary is untrue, including Brett Barnes , who said he knew Michael Jackson when he was child. According to TMZ , the film “implies Jackson molested him as a boy. As for why Barnes thinks this … Wade Robson — one of the singer’s well-known alleged victims — claims in the doc, Barnes ‘replaced him.’ The film then shows Michael and Brett together on tour. Thus, the insinuation.” Barnes testified at Michael Jackson’s criminal trial in 2005 and said he was never assaulted by him. He also tweeted this in January. Not only do we have to deal with these lies, but we’ve also got to deal with people perpetuating these lies. The fact that they fail to do the small amount of research it takes to prove these are lies, by choice or not, makes it even worse. — Brett Barnes (@IAmBrettBarnes) January 30, 2019 Michael Jackson was acquitted of all charges. Farrah Abraham SLAMMED By Fans: Stop Dragging Your Daughter to Adult Parties!

The Venice Film Festival has attracted a lot of controversy this week, primarily due to the decision to include works by controversial filmmakers such as Roman Polanski and Nate Parker. But it’s also elicited lots of annoyed groans and eye-rolls due to the decision to invite Z-list celebs wno have nothing to do with the film world. Yes, for reasons that no one fully understands, Farrah Abraham was on hand for the event. As you can see, Farrah is being her usually ridiculous self on the red carpet, coming dangerously close to flashing some vadge at the premiere of the new Brad Pitt film, Ad Astra . We would speculate that Farrah’s goal is to catch Brad’s attention and become the stepmom to his 47 children, but let’s be honest — there’s no way she’s thinking that far in advance. We’ve seen that look on Farrah’s face before, and it screams, “I only have a vague idea of where the hell I am.” That said, Farrah’s purpose in attending was 100% to steal the spotlight from the filmmakers and actors who actually belong there. And these days, it’s not just her own “career” that she’s trying to boost, but also her daughter’s. Yes, these days Farrah has a very complex relationship with her 10-year-old offspring. She frequently slams Sophia in brutally mean videos that she posts on YouTube, but she also never goes anywhere without her. The reason for this seems to be two-fold: 1. Farrah is aware that her own career prospects are dwindling, and she’s desperately hoping that Sophia will become famous enough to support her, and  2. She’s a former reality star that got fired from her show almost two years ago, and she uses her daughter like a prop to remind people that she used to be on Teen Mom . None of this is lost on Farrah’s social media followers who promptly roasted her for her latest Venice pics. “I don’t think I’ve ever seen another person drag their kid around with them like this to this extent. It’s so strange,” wrote one commenter. “Are you that desperate for relevancy? You’re only known for Teen Mom so nobody recognizes you without Sophia? Lmao how sad. Give up already Fraud Farrah, you will never be a celebrity.” “The kid is not a showpony; why give her the impression that this will be her future?” another added. “She’s going to be nuts by the time reality kicks in. It is a form of abuse, and it is sad to watch. Farrah, I think you are doing well for yourself. You want to be in the spotlight; that’s okay,” the critic continued. “You are a adult, but this little girl is not a handbag.. And who wants to see kids at a adult event? If you are invited at a red carpet kids event then bring her… don’t become a clown just for publicity.” Of course, toting her daughter around like a fashion accessory is just one way that Farrah has been off her rocker lately. Over the weekend, Abraham made it clear that she hates poor people with a scathing video message directed at a fan who confessed to having financial issues. The irony, of course, is that if Sophia proves unable to support her mom, Farrah will be the one with financial issues. Should be interesting to see where this goes! Eddie Murphy BYKE! The Trailer For His Netflix Film ‘Dolemite Is My Name’ Is Pure Fire [VIDEO]

Source: Courtesy Netflix / Courtesy Netflix Netflix Releases Official Trailer For ‘Dolemite Is My Name Have you been paying attention to the buzz over upcoming Netflix film ‘Dolemite Is My Name?’ Netflix just dropped the trailer and it looks amaaaaaazing! Stung by a string of showbiz failures, floundering comedian Rudy Ray Moore (Academy Award nominee Eddie Murphy) has an epiphany that turns him into a word-of-mouth sensation: step onstage as someone else. Borrowing from the street mythology of 1970s Los Angeles, Moore assumes the persona of Dolemite, a pimp with a cane and an arsenal of obscene fables. However, his ambitions exceed selling bootleg records deemed too racy for mainstream radio stations to play. Moore convinces a social justice-minded dramatist (Keegan-Michael Key) to write his alter ego a film, incorporating kung fu, car chases, and Lady Reed (Da’Vine Joy Randolph), an ex-backup singer who becomes his unexpected comedic foil. Despite clashing with his pretentious director, D’Urville Martin (Wesley Snipes), and countless production hurdles at their studio in the dilapidated Dunbar Hotel, Moore’s Dolemite becomes a runaway box office smash and a defining movie of the Blaxploitation era. Comics and rappers have praised Moore as a pioneering influence over the past few decades, and Dolemite Is My Name is a hilarious celebration of a singular talent who made his own legend. From director Craig Brewer (Hustle & Flow, Empire); Emmy and Golden Globe-winning writers Scott Alexander and Larry Karaszewski (Ed Wood, The People vs. O.J. Simpson); and the producing team of Oscar and Golden Globe nominee John Davis (Ferdinand, Joy), Golden Globe nominee John Fox (Joy) and Murphy; the film features an all-star supporting cast — including Mike Epps, Craig Robinson, Tituss Burgess, Kodi Smit-McPhee, Snoop Dogg, Ron Cephas Jones, Barry Shabaka Henley, Tip ‘TI’ Harris, Luenell, Tasha Smith — plus costumes designed by Academy Award winner Ruth E. Chicago Nonprofit Aims To Combat Diabetes Within The Black Community

Link:

A frican Americans are disproportionately affected by the growing diabetes epidemic. According to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services , Black adults are 80 percent more likely than whites to be diagnosed with diabetes. A new Chicago-based nonprofit is striving to reverse the alarming trend. According to Black News , The Suga Project is creating a space to foster conversations surrounding ways to combat Type 2 diabetes and the overall importance of Black health. The organization—which was founded by Natalie Pauls —was established to provide resources for African Americans who are battling diabetes and for others who want to get involved in addressing the epidemic. Cognizant of the rising numbers of Black folks who are affected by the disease, Pauls wanted to create a platform where they could feel empowered and supported. The Suga Project provides informative courses that teach individuals how to lead healthier lifestyles. “The numbers are startling,” Pauls said in a statement, according to the news outlet. “African Americans are four times more likely to have an amputation due to diabetes complications. African American women are dying at rates greater than any other group of women in history.” The organization’s overarching goal is to see a decrease in the number of diabetes cases within the Black community. Several individuals and organizations are working to spread awareness about diabetes amongst African Americans. Earlier this year actress Viola Davis teamed up with the pharmaceutical company Merck to narrate a documentary titled A Touch of Sugar that captures how the disease is impacting communities across the country. “I’m one of the 84 million American adults living with prediabetes and I’m sharing my story for the first time in an effort to inspire others to take action against the type 2 diabetes epidemic,” she said in a statement about the film. “When you look at the facts, there’s nothing harmless about diabetes – it’s a chronic disease that needs to be taken seriously if we’re going to get it under control.” SEE ALSO: Viola Davis Spreads Awareness About Diabetes Through New Documentary GirlTrek Movement Inspires Black Women To Take Charge Of Their Health [ione_media_gallery src=”https://newsone.com” id=”3459090″ overlay=”true”]

Man With A Plan: Jason Momoa Reveals Why He’s Refusing To Shoot ‘Aquaman 2’

Source: Edward Berthelot / Getty Jason Momoa Is Protesting Construction On A Hawaiian Mountain Jason Momoa isn’t backing down over his disapproval of a construction project on Hawaii’s tallest mountain, Mauna Kea. Not only that, to make matters even more serious, the actor is letting fans know that he’s refusing to start work on Aquaman 2 until something is done. Right now, the project–known as Thirty Meter Telescope–is being built there, while Indigenous Hawaiians believe that shouldn’t happen because it’s the most sacred site on Earth. Momoa had already posted on Instagram from the site, but now, he’s making himself all the way clear that he’s had enough. “F**K THIS. And TMT is 4x bigger. Sorry Warner Bros we can’t shoot Aquaman 2. Because Jason got run over by a bulldozer trying to stop the desecration of his native land,” he wrote in the caption of his Instagram post. “THIS iS NOT HAPPENING. WE ARE NOT LETTING YOU DO THIS ANYMORE. Enough is enough. Go somewhere else. Repost. This is what telescope construction looks like (Subaru Telescope, 1992). The TMT will be four times larger on unscathed land. We must protect our scared mountain from further desecration.” View this post on Instagram FUCK THIS. And TMT is 4x bigger. Protestors were recently joined by Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson, who also objected to the construction taking place on such a sacred location. “It’s not about stopping science. It’s about respecting a culture and respecting a people, and doing things the right way,” The Rock explained. “When things escalate to that emotional apex, that is a sign that something has to be done. And to full-charge-ahead isn’t the way to do it.” As for Momoa refusing to film Aquaman 2 , Warner Bros. hasn’t released a statement on the matter–but the film is still set for a December 2022 release.
