Beverly McClellan Discusses Improbable Run on The Voice, Next Career Moves

“I’m a mixture of blues and rock with a shot of Southern Comfort.” – Beverly McClellan The openly lesbian, bald rocker who made it all the way to the finals of NBC’s The Voice calls herself a Janis Joplin-Melissa Etheridge-Etta James hybrid. That’s quite a statement, but the Florida native proved with her recent run on the reality hit that she’s got the vocal chops to make such a bold claim. Excerpts from Beverly’s interview with TV Line this week … Beverly McClellan and Christina Aguilera – Beautiful On her reaction to success on The Voice : “Where the hell did the rock and roll go? Epic moments were made: We need those again. I have no fear.” “I’m a bit of a rebel, a kid that never grew up. I feel like I’m finally, for once in my life, where I need to be, showing the right people, even if it’s not something I planned on doing: Come out here and get famous.” “I thought, “S***, I have just as much chance as anyone else.” Am I blown away that I came this far? Yeah. But I don’t want to slow the train down.” On making the finals (finishing right behind Dia Frampton and Javier Colon ) as an openly gay singer : “Listen, dude, we’ve got to be the change we want to see. I have to set that precedent for myself.” “I can lay down at night and think, ‘Wow. I did everything in a way that I can live with myself.’ And the children are our future: How can we show them a different way if we don’t continue it with every step we take?” “Doesn’t mean you can’t have fun and be a bit of a rebel, but break the right rules. There are the ones that need to be broken. I’ve never not lived out loud, and I’ve known my sexuality since a young age – kindergarten, really.” Beverly McClellan – Piece Of My Heart (On The Voice) On her blind audition: “Honey, I didn’t go out there set for them to not turn around: I went out there with the Sword of Troy. I was singing so hard my veins were popping out of my head, and I could see the spit slinging from my mouth.” “And just in that split instant I saw Christina and Adam turn around, and I was like, ‘Oh, it’s on now.’ [ Laughs .] Of course I had to go with Christina: Why freaking not? She sings her face off. She’s an icon.” The Voice Battle Round – Beverly McClellan vs. Justin Grennan On the battle round with Justin Grennan : “We sat and we practiced. And it was royally wonderful. So at the end of the day it was just a matter if they wanted shrimp or chicken, because they’re both awesome.” America needs to watch out, ’cause they’re not even ready for what’s coming to them: Beverly McClellan, Vicci Martinez, Emily Valentine, Tyler Robinson, Kelsey Rey, and so many other folks from The Voice . And the list goes on. On what’s next : “Everything! America needs to watch out, ’cause they’re not even ready for what’s coming to them: Beverly McClellan, Vicci Martinez, Emily Valentine, Tyler Robinson, Kelsey Rey, and so many other folks from The Voice .”

‘Harry Potter’ World Cup Down To Final Four!

It’s Hermione vs. Snape and Ron vs. Sirius in a showdown for the title of best ‘Potter’ character. By Terri Schwartz Photo: Warner Bros. With only four days left to vote in MTV News’ “Harry Potter” World Cup , the competition is heating up as the contestants narrow down. The Final Four “Harry Potter” characters were revealed Friday (July 8), and now Hermione Granger faces off against Professor Snape while Ron Weasley has a showdown with Sirius Black . It’s anyone’s call as to who will make it into the finals, let alone take home the trophy. “It gets down to who fans really want to see take this entire tournament home,” said Julia Hodges of DanRadcliffe.com and RupertGrint.net . Even with the stakes raised so high, the “Harry Potter” experts MTV has been chatting with have their own gut feelings about who is going to make it into the final round. And, according to Rosie Halse of the Leaky Cauldron , this is Hermione’s last hurrah. “This is where Hermione is going to fall down, unfortunately,” Halse predicted. “I love Hermione to pieces, but I think that Snape has a much more ardent following. He has so many twists and turns in the book, whereas Hermione is quite a constant character that perhaps Snape might win on a character basis.” But the experts still feel that one of the series’ Big Three will make it into the finals: Ron Weasley. “Sirius has been such an important role model to Harry, yet Ron has been such an important friend to Harry,” Andrew Sims of MuggleNet said. “I think in this competition, Ron is going to win because: A) popularity, and B) he’s always been by Harry’s side.” Voting for the Final Four continues on the MTV Movies Blog through Sunday, July 10, at midnight. Then the showdown between the last two “Potter” characters left standing begins promptly at 12:01 a.m. ET on Monday, July 11, with the winner being announced later that night during MTV’s live stream of the “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part 2” red-carpet premiere in New York City. By Gil Kaufman “American Idol” Finalist Casey Abrams (file) Photo: Kevin Winter/ Getty Images Casey Abrams is back in the game. The “American Idol” front-runner, who missed out on Thursday’s results show because he was hospitalized for a flare-up of ulcerative colitis, posted a message to fans on Monday announcing that he is feeling better and will be ready to go for Wednesday night’s performance show. According to Entertainment Weekly, Abrams made the statements at an “Idol” panel on Monday at the 28th annual PaleyFest, where he took the stage along with eight of his fellow finalists (minors Lauren Alaina, Scotty McCreery and Thia Megia were doing schoolwork). “I’m feeling really good,” he said. The 20-year-old Illinois singer reportedly received blood transfusions last week, during his second hospitalization of the season. “I thought I was actually going to make it,” he said about last Thursday’s show, “but I had to stay behind. It was fun and everyone waved at me, and I felt really supported by everyone, and I loved watching.” Abrams also said he “hated” seeing Ashthon Jones go home on Thursday and was bummed to miss out on the first group performance of the finals. “It was awesome seeing the group performance … [and] thank you, Stefano [Langone] and Haley [Reinhart], for taking my part.” Earlier this season, on February 23, Abrams was rushed to the ER after complaining about stomach pains and almost missed the subsequent taping of the top-12 men’s performances, which potentially would have eliminated him from the competition before the finals. MSNBC's Ed Schultz on Wednesday hysterically alleged Briston Palin's successful movement into the finals of “Dancing With the Stars” was a product of voter fraud. Maybe even worse, liberal radio host Stephanie Miller thrice told the “Ed Show” host Bristol “sucks”: read more

The Situation, Bristol Palin Tag-Team Safe Sex PSA

Proving that truth really is stranger than fiction, The Situation and Bristol Palin have teamed up for a safe sex PSA on behalf of the Candie’s Foundation. It goes without saying that Bristol Palin is only famous for getting pregnant as a teenager, and The Situation for railing dozens of girls on Jersey Shore . One might say this makes them odd spokespersons for abstinence and/or safe sex, but on the flip side, they have experience with babies and STDs, so … The Situation and Bristol: Sex Talkin’ PSA These two, of course, met on the set of Dancing With the Stars this season. Sitch was ousted early, while Bristol has somehow advanced to the finals . Overall, as absurd as this is, and despite the annoyance of hearing the word “situation” used 18 times in two minutes, it beats Willow Palin’s Facebook rant . That’s all.
