According to Bloomberg , Governor Christie got put on blast when Barbara Walter’s interviewed him for her “10 Most Fascinating People” special that airs today. The 50-year-old Republican, who plans to seek a second term as governor next year and hasn’t ruled out a 2016 White House bid, said he was “more than a little” overweight when Walters asked him about his size. Walters tells Christie that concerns about his health are the reason people raise questions about his weight. The governor said he was perplexed by those who say that his size should disqualify him from the White House. “That’s ridiculous,” Christie said. “I don’t know what the basis for that is.” Christie has said his struggle with weight began 30 years ago when he stopped playing organized school sports. He told Oprah Winfrey in January that he was working with a dietitian and exercising more regularly. The governor has shown a willingness to joke at his own expense, last month kiddingly refusing to answer questions about the bankruptcy of Hostess Brands, maker of Twinkies snack cakes. During the Walters interview, Christie highlighted his recent response to superstorm Sandy as proof that his size doesn’t slow him down. “I’ve done this job pretty well and I think people have watched me for the last number of weeks and Hurricane Sandy doing 18-hour days and getting right back up the next day and still being just as effective,” he said in a clip of the interview. “So I really don’t think that would be a problem.” Do you think the Governor’s weight means he has a lack of control??? Paul Ryan thinks he’s so cool. If he’s trying to seem “in touch” with our generations and the millions of us that ain’t young Republicans, this was the wrong music choice to announce to us all because he just comes off lookin’ cray. Rage Against the Machine’s lead guitarist, Tom Morello, doesn’t appreciate the accolades either. He took to Rolling Stone to let us know how he felt about the right-winged poser and slams him for “liking” the very music that goes against everything Ryan and Money Mitt stand for. Paul Ryan’s love of Rage Against the Machine is amusing, because he is the embodiment of the machine that our music has been raging against for two decades. Charles Manson loved the Beatles but didn’t understand them. Governor Chris Christie loves Bruce Springsteen but doesn’t understand him. And Paul Ryan is clueless about his favorite band, Rage Against the Machine. Ryan claims that he likes Rage’s sound, but not the lyrics. Well, I don’t care for Paul Ryan’s sound or his lyrics. He can like whatever bands he wants, but his guiding vision of shifting revenue more radically to the one percent is antithetical to the message of Rage. I wonder what Ryan’s favorite Rage song is? Is it the one where we condemn the genocide of Native Americans? The one lambasting American imperialism? Our cover of “Fuck the Police”? Or is it the one where we call on the people to seize the means of production? So many excellent choices to jam out to at Young Republican meetings! Don’t mistake me, I clearly see that Ryan has a whole lotta “rage” in him: A rage against women, a rage against immigrants, a rage against workers, a rage against gays, a rage against the poor, a rage against the environment. Basically the only thing he’s not raging against is the privileged elite he’s groveling in front of for campaign contributions. You see, the super rich must rationalize having more than they could ever spend while millions of children in the U.S. go to bed hungry every night. So, when they look themselves in the mirror, they convince themselves that “Those people are undeserving. They’re . . . lesser.” Some of these guys on the extreme right are more cynical than Paul Ryan, but he seems to really believe in this stuff. This unbridled rage against those who have the least is a cornerstone of the Romney-Ryan ticket. But Rage’s music affects people in different ways. Some tune out what the band stands for and concentrate on the moshing and throwing elbows in the pit. For others, Rage has changed their minds and their lives. Many activists around the world, including organizers of the global occupy movement, were radicalized by Rage Against the Machine and work tirelessly for a more humane and just planet. Perhaps Paul Ryan was moshing when he should have been listening. My hope is that maybe Paul Ryan is a mole. Maybe Rage did plant some sensible ideas in this extreme fringe right wing nut job. Maybe if elected, he’ll pardon Leonard Peltier. Maybe he’ll throw U.S. military support behind the Zapatistas. Maybe he’ll fill Guantanamo Bay with the corporate criminals that are funding his campaign – and then torture them with Rage music 24/7. That’s one possibility. But I’m not betting on it. This is the second time this week one of these dumb azz Republican candidates has referenced music while lookin’ like a contradictory wankster. Source Images via WENN/Twitter

Hundreds of people lined up on Martin Luther King Boulevard this evening, gathering nearby the Whigham Funeral Home in Newark, New Jersey while those closest to Whitney Houston – including her daughter and mother, who exited a limo holding hands – held a wake for the late artist. It will be held at New Hope Baptist Church and has been the subject of controversy all week, with Bobby Brown not cleared by his former in-laws to attend until the last moment ; and with Governor Chris Christine ordering flags to be flown at half-staff . With Whitney’s cousin, Dionne Warwick, and former co-star, Kevin Costner, scheduled to speak at the invitation-only funeral, the guest list also includes: Forest Whitaker Chaka Khan Ray J Aretha Franklin Kim Burrell Clive Davis Stevie Wonder Rickey Minor Alicia Keys Following the funeral, Houston will be interred on Sunday, laid to rest alongside her father at the Fairview Cemetery in Westfield, NJ.

Whitney Houston will officially rest in peace this Saturday afternoon in New Jersey, as her loved ones gather for a funeral in Newark and millions gather around their computer to watch a live stream. But the circumstances surrounding this ceremony have been anything but peaceful. As Houston’s family continues to battle with Bobby Brown over whether or not the singer will attend, Governor Chris Christie has been forced to address his state’s decision to honor the artist by flying all government flags at half-staff. “What I would say to everybody is there but for the grace of God go I,” Christie said in response to complaints that New Jersey is turning a drug addict into a role model. Other objections to the move emanate from those who believe this sort of memorial should be reserved for members of the military, first responders and elected officials. “I am disturbed by people who believe that because her ultimate demise – and we don’t know what is the cause of her death yet – but because of her history of substance abuse that somehow she’s forfeited the good things that she did in her life,” said the governor during a briefing in northern New Jersey. “I just reject that on a human level.” The funeral raises two questions, both of which we ask of readers below: SHOULD FLAGS BE FLOWN AT HALF-STAFF? SHOULD THE FUNERAL BE STREAMED ONLINE?
