Grammy Red Carpet Fashion: Eggs, Spots And Lots Of Sparkle

Lady Gaga, Katy Perry, Nicki Minaj and more rock stand-out looks on Sunday night. By Jocelyn Vena Lady Gaga arrives at the 2011 Grammy Awards Photo: John Shearer/ WireImage Lady Gaga’s egg aside, there was a lot of glamour on the Grammy red carpet on Sunday night (February 13). Between the dazzling whites and animal prints, the stars turned up their fashion game for the big show in Los Angeles. Check out photos of Lady Gaga’s arrival and the rest of the Grammy red carpet . Florence and the Machine’s Florence Welch hit the carpet early in a white, partially sheer gypsy-esque gown by Givenchy, complete with swan detailing. Paramore leading lady Hayley Williams showed off her fire-engine red hair with a ’60s silhouette that included a black sequined dress with hot-pink trim and black tights by Jeremy Scott. Nicki Minaj did her own thing in a leopard print Givenchy dress with matching tights, shoes and even a beehive, Marie Antoinette-inspired wig with spots. “I’m also wearing kick-ass attitude,” Minaj told MTV News hosts Snooki and Sway on the carpet. Perhaps stealing from Nicki Minaj’s wardrobe cues, Swizz Beatz also wore all-black with a leopard jacket. Katy Perry donned an iridescent Armani with angel wings, beads along the bust and cut-out detailing. Hubby Russell Brand and Katy’s 90-year-old grandmother, Anne, were also wearing silver outfits designed by Armani. Perry’s good pal Rihanna hit the carpet with her fiery hair looking shorter but still edgy in a white tulle gown with tiered ruffles by Jean Paul Gaultier that left little to the imagination. It was all-black everything for some of the guys. Drake looked fancy in a black tuxedo with black shirt and black bow tie. Like Drake, Adam Lambert hit the carpet in black, wearing a low-cut black button-down with a black tuxedo that had leather details on the collar. Justin Bieber looked white-hot in an all-white tuxedo with black bowtie and pocket square; he completed the look with white kicks. His gal pal Selena Gomez looked ultra-glam in a body-hugging J. Mendel lingerie-style silver gown. Gomez’s fellow Disney star, Miley Cyrus , looked equally glittering (and newly blonde) in a skin-tight silver gown by Roberto Cavalli that she wore with lots of bangles. Kim Kardashian , who walked the carpet with brother Rob, opted for gold instead of silver in a low-cut, golden halter gown with a thigh-high slit by Kaufman Franco. By James Dinh Lady Gaga Photo: Getty Images As the Internet lights up about Lady Gaga’s brand-new single, “Born This Way,” various celebrities took to Twitter on Friday (February 11) to dish their two cents on the pop superstar’s highly anticipated tune. Hayley Williams Posts Demo Of New Song, ‘In The Mourning’

‘I don’t want people thinking it’s a new Paramore song. This is just something I wrote for fun,’ the singer says in a blog post. By James Montgomery Hayley Williams Photo: Tim Mosenfelder/Getty Images Last week, during Paramore’s “Last Word” interview with MTV News, Hayley Williams promised fans that the band would “definitely” be releasing new music in 2011 … and, it looks like she meant it. Well, sort of. On Tuesday, Williams took to her blog to post the chorus of a song called “In the Mourning,” a winsome, windswept thing that, while new — and actually pretty great — probably won’t be showing up on a Paramore album anytime soon. “A few weeks ago I posted some new lyrics up on Tumblr. Wanted to share the melody with anyone who’s asked me to post it,” Williams wrote on her blog. “This is just the chorus … I didn’t want to post the full thing yet because I don’t want people thinking it’s a new Paramore song. This is just something I wrote for fun. Hope you likes!” Williams did post the lyrics to “In the Mourning” a few weeks prior, and at the time, fans were speculating that they might be related to one of the new demos guitarist Taylor York had written for the group. Now, it doesn’t sound like that’s the case, although Williams and Paramore’s other remaining members — York and bassist Jeremy Davis — are apparently still writing and demoing new material . Late last month, just days after it was announced that founding Paramore members Josh and Zac Farro would be leaving the band, Zac posted a demo by his new project, Tunnel . In February, Paramore will launch a South American tour — their first since the Farro brothers’ departure — with York’s brother Justin filling in on guitar and veteran stickman Josh Freese on drums. Will Lil Wayne Undergo A Rap Rebirth In 2011?

Young Money prez spent most of 2010 behind bars but a spasm-inducing single hints at an unstoppable year for the MC. By Jayson Rodriguez, with reporting by Steven Roberts Lil Wayne Photo: Getty Images Lil Wayne’s bound to have a better year in 2011 than he did in 2010. The superstar MC spent the majority of the past year (eight months) behind bars on Rikers Island after turning himself in on charges stemming from a 2007 gun case. Of course, even with a prison sentence, his achievements were nothing short of amazing in ’10: The rapper scored gold plaques for his rock-leaning effort, Rebirth, and his album I Am Not a Human Being ; steered the two biggest new acts in hip-hop, Drake and Nicki Minaj; and ignited stages just before ( Jay-Z’s Madison Square Garden show with Young Jeezy) and after ( Drake’s final tour stop in Las Vegas ) his incarceration. So, what does Weezy do for an encore? He’s already started by giving fans the first offering from his upcoming Tha Carter IV. “What’s really reassuring about ‘6 Foot 7 Foot’ is how familiar it sounds,” New York Times critic Jon Caramanica told MTV News. “I think that may be a liability, but it sounds like Wayne just before he went away.” The New Orleans rhyme slinger has been treading lightly on wax since his release from prison in November. He spit his first words on Birdman’s “Fire Flames” track and then unleashed his otherworldly powers on “6 Foot 7 Foot.” But his sparse output has only added to anticipation for what he has in store on Tha Carter IV. “There’s a lot of anticipation and I think he still sounds good and I think that he’s gonna win,” Rap Radar’s Elliott Wilson explained. He’s logged plenty of studio time already; in fact, just before he was scheduled to leave Rikers, Wayne requested beats be prepared for him. The New Orleans MC isn’t playing around. Now, it’s up to our #5 Man of the Year to take it up another level. “The energy is there like he’s excited,” Wilson said. “Like, they literally let him out the cage. He’s out to rip MCs’ heads off.” Do you think Lil Wayne can outdo himself in 2011? Tell us your predictions in the comments! Related Videos 2011 Forecast: The Year In Music

Paramore Say ‘Majority’ Of Brand New Eyes Is About Josh Farro

Watch the full interview on ‘Paramore: The Last Word,’ live on MTV.com Friday at 4 p.m. ET. By James Montgomery Paramore Photo: MTV News FRANKLIN, Tennessee — In his “Exit Statement” from Paramore , Josh Farro made one thing abundantly clear: There was a lot more going on behind the scenes than most fans were aware of. Of course, in their interview with MTV News — which you can see more of in Paramore: The Last Word,” a live stream on MTV.com on Friday at 4 p.m. ET — the remaining members of the band addressed most of his charges (not surprisingly, they don’t agree with most of them), but in kicking up all that dust, Farro may have unwittingly also revealed the biggest secret of all: that the majority of the songs on Paramore’s 2009 Brand New Eyes album were about him. Up until he released his statement, most fans assumed that the lyrics on songs like “Playing God” (“It has to be so lonely/ To be the only one who’s only”) and “Ignorance” (“Where’s your gavel, your jury/ What’s my offense this time?”) were Hayley Williams’ way of telling off nameless naysayers and faceless detractors. But now, it’s pretty apparent that they deal almost exclusively with her relationship with Farro — and if you’re still not sold on that point, well, she’ll tell you herself. “I would say that a large majority of those songs, yes, have to do with the relationship we had and then that we had to mend,” she said. “And it was really hard, because we were all friends, and then going through a breakup and going through any kind of tension as a band really affected all the lyrics. … There are a lot of specifics that I pulled from my experience with just feeling like my face was underneath a boot all the time. “I think the point of the album was never to point out those things, but hopefully to encourage people who feel that way,” she continued. “Because I felt so alone in that fight, that I would never want, especially another young woman, to feel that way, because I know there are a lot of girls I’ve talked to, fans, go through the same thing in relationships and families, and it just sucks to feel kind of victimized.” And she didn’t stop there, either, but you’re going to have to wait for the “Last Word” live stream to hear the rest. And speaking of that live stream, we’d love to include your voice in the show, and judging by the sheer volume of comments our stories have gotten, you have plenty to say. You can upload videos to to or tweet your take @MTVNews, and we might just use it Friday. Gwyneth Paltrow To Host ‘Saturday Night Live’

‘Country Strong’ star and musical guest Cee Lo will appear on January 15 episode. By Eric Ditzian Gwyneth Paltrow Photo: Jon Kopaloff/FilmMagic After Jim Carrey opens up the 2011 run of “Saturday Night Live” this weekend, Gwyneth Paltrow will take over hosting duties on January 15, NBC announced on Tuesday (January 4). The appearance will mark the Oscar-winning actress’ third time hosting “SNL” and comes as she’s promoting her musical drama, “Country Strong,” which expands into a wide release this Friday. Paltrow will be joined by musical guest Cee Lo , whose hit single, “F— You,” she covered to wide acclaim on “Glee” last year. “I really am just flattered … that not only ‘Glee’ [covered it], but it was Gwyneth [singing],” Cee Lo told MTV News last November. “I didn’t realize when we first did the clearances for it. I just thought that maybe it would be sung by the cast, but [it] turns out to be her. I’m like, ‘That’s just, that’s too awesome.’ ” Paltrow has put her musical talents front and center in recent months. In addition to “Country Strong” and her turn on “Glee” (where she also performed a mash-up of Rihanna’s “Umbrella” and “Singin’ in the Rain”), the actress performed at the Country Music Awards in November and has already booked a return trip to “Glee.” She’s even discussed the possibility of making an entire country album. “I think if I was going to make a country record, it would be like a super-bare, kind of stripped-back kind of country,” Paltrow told MTV News. “Like a little bit of bluegrass-influenced kind of thing.” Related Videos MTV Rough Cut: ‘Country Strong’ MTV News Extended Play: Cee Lo Related Photos The Evolution Of: Gwyneth Paltrow Related Artists Gwyneth Paltrow Cee Lo Green

Exclusive: Paramore React To Josh Farro’s ‘Exit Statement’

Band opens up to about Farro brothers’ departure during ‘Paramore: The Last Word,’ live on MTV.com Friday at 4.p.m. ET. By James Montgomery Paramore’s Hayley Williams Photo: MTV News FRANKLIN, Tennessee — Hayley Williams isn’t going to deny any of it. Not the anger, the sense of betrayal she felt two weeks ago when reading Josh Farro’s “Exit Statement,” or the bewilderment over the bizarre set of circumstances that led to that statement. But more than anything, she’s not going to deny her overwhelming desire to put the whole incident behind her … which is why MTV News flew to Tennessee last Thursday to talk to Williams and her Paramore bandmates Taylor York and Jeremy Davis about the split with the Farro brothers, and their plans to move forward without them. Because as they told us, once 2010 came to a close, they had no intention of addressing the topic anymore. “There’s been a lot of things said online, especially in the past week, and it sucks … it sucks to read it, and it also sucks to know that responding isn’t really going to help, online, because things travel so terribly on the Internet,” Williams said. “So we really wanted the opportunity to show our fans that we’re OK, you know? The three of us are still here, we’re not going anywhere. A lot of kids are still asking if the band is breaking up, and that just goes to show how broken the communication online can be, when rumors start traveling. So this is our way of showing that there’s a future and we’re stoked for it.” MTV News will examine the band’s past and future in “Paramore: The Last Word,” a live stream on MTV.com on Friday, December 7 at 4 p.m. Because unlike any other band of their stature and status, Paramore just can’t seem to escape the past. To this day, questions exist about their formation, talk of Williams’ initial pseudo-career as a solo artist and about the group’s early days as an indie-label act with major-label backing. And if, by some bizarre circumstance, you weren’t aware of any of that, well then Josh Farros’ statement probably brought you up to speed. A large portion of our interview last week dealt specifically with Josh’s central points — points the band deemed “irrelevant” — and, on Wednesday, we’ll publish Paramore’s responses to them. But we figured the best place to start with a situation this complex is at the beginning: with the band’s first reactions to Farro’s statement, which turned what had been a rather amicable split into something else entirely. “I don’t know if I got a phone call or an e-mail, but I woke up to it, basically, and that sucked, and I was not happy,” Williams said. “And yeah, it hurts, because what we were told was that they weren’t happy, they didn’t want to do this, and you can’t be mad at someone for not feeling something. … But then when it really became about all these other things, I was very surprised and kind of felt led on, almost. We’ve been doing this for six, seven years now. I don’t think any of this has been in vain, for any of us … and I don’t think anyone should discredit it.” “It was a drag. … Once we released our statement , we all knew they would probably release something,” guitarist Taylor York added. “So I think we were all kind of bracing ourselves. You know, breakups are hard, and there’s a lot of feelings so we kind of, in a way, we expected there to be something weird. So, yeah, it was really hard to read, just because it seemed like a lot of the stuff was pretty irrelevant to what happened. I think that was the weird thing, ’cause it just didn’t seem really necessary.” Of course, Williams and York said all of this in carefully measured, downright diplomatic tones. You get the feeling, had we sat down with them on the morning of December 22, immediately following Farros’ statement, their reactions would’ve been slightly different. But Paramore made it clear that are trying very hard not to get angry, if not for the sake of the band, then for the sake of their fans. “You feel every single type of emotion possible when something like this happens with someone that either was — or is — very close to you, you just feel everything, all at once,” Williams smiled. “I’ve never felt so … I don’t know, I couldn’t even figure out how I felt. But after realizing, like Taylor said, that it was kind of going to happen this way, you’ve just got to know that what’s important is the three of us are still here, and that we want to do this, and that’s the positive part about this.” MTV News will be unveiling our exclusive interview with Paramore on Friday at 4 p.m. ET with “Paramore: The Last Word,” a live stream on MTV.com that will feature in-depth analysis of the band’s future, real-time discussion with their biggest fans and exclusive footage of the band, past and present. Paramore Taking A Break In 2011 To Record New Album

‘We’re kind of at the end of this [ Brand New Eyes ] record but it’s bittersweet,’ Taylor York tells MTV News. By Mawuse Ziegbe, with reporting by Jim Cantiello Paramore’s Hayley Williams and Taylor York Photo: MTV News Paramore is definitely wrapping up the decade on top with a year that included a slew of chart-ruling hits and a huge cross-country trek. So it’s not surprising that when MTV News cornered Hayley Williams and Taylor York at the Z100 Jingle Ball red carpet on Friday, they couldn’t stick to just one highlight of the year. Instead, they obliged us with a few of their major 2010 moments. “[There’s] been so many big ones,” Williams said. “We got to play the VMAs , we went on the biggest US tour we’ve done to date, played two shows at the O2 arena in London. It’s just been like, one thing after another. [It’s like a] high climb and I hope we get to keep climbing for a little bit longer.” York said that the crew doesn’t have much lined up for last few remaining weeks of 2010, but revealed they plan to retreat from the spotlight in 2011 to tinker on an upcoming album. “The year has kind of been topped. We don’t have much more for the rest of this year. We’re going a tour in South America and then we’re taking time off and we’re writing for a new record,” he said. Although a new project beckons, York admitted that moving on from the success of Brand New Eyes is a bit difficult. “We’re kind of at the end of this record but it’s bittersweet.” As the band heads off to craft their fourth LP, Williams said they plan to take the same time-tested approach to making new music that proved successful with their previous work. Although their “Twilight” soundtrack smash “Decode” was penned on the road , the frontwoman maintained they prefer to knock out a record at their home base in Tennessee. “We wrote ‘Decode’ [while on tour] … we didn’t expect it and then everything happened with that one and so that was good. You never know,” she conceded. “We like to do it at home mostly. We like to wait and kind of really focus on the records when we have time off.” What do you think Paramore’s new album will sound like? Let us know in the comments!
