Usher Hopes ‘Scream’ Will Be the Song Of The Summer

‘Let’s get going, summer is almost here!’ Usher tells MTV News. By Christina Garibaldi Usher Photo: Stuart Wilson On top of his club-banging hits and soulful voice, Usher has another impressive skill: creating the song of summer. Usher has ruled the airwaves in the summer for years, with hits like “You Make Me Wanna” and “U Remind Me” making fans roll down their windows and pump up their radios to his infectious tracks. Most recently, in 2010, Usher hit the #1 spot on the Billboard Hot 100 during the summer months with his inescapable hit “OMG,” and now he’s looking to repeat that success with “Scream,” the second single from his seventh studio album. “Let’s get going, summer is almost here!” Usher told MTV News. “It’s intended to be that, but I don’t think that was the only thing. We thought about live performance, we thought about mixing and matching and also giving people an energy that only [producer Max Martin] would be able to create.” “Scream” is the latest single from Usher’s just-released album, Looking 4 Myself, which he hopes will not only get people on the dance floor, but also affect them in a more personal manner. “If I’m gonna move you, I want to move you. I hope that it could be something that could be life-changing,” the singer last month during “MTV First: Usher.” “You may be going through something real crazy, who knows, and just need to get out and just enjoy yourself. So I always think about the club, I always think about that song that will be able to let you out of that slump, if you’re in it.” Usher’s latest album, which he called an “evolution” of sound , is just the next step in his musical risk-taking. He credits longtime producer Jermaine Dupri with the opportunity to reach many different genres of music. “If I do track back to the first time I was about to take a risk, even though it wasn’t about my direction, it was more so by Jermaine Dupri’s direction with ‘You Make Me Wanna,’ ” Usher said. “You didn’t really hear that tone or that instrument on top of an R&B record, so it was an incredible collaboration or mixture of urban and classic R&B or pop… that really began to open up the conversation and allow people to understand, ‘Oh, wow, this is not just an artist that you could put in a box or put in a specific category.’ ” Are you excited for Usher’s album? Time for a little shopping therapy with Cynthia. I’ll give her a Plus 5 for finally making a decision and moving on. But not so fast. NeNe’s lamenting that divorce means she and Gregg will have to cut off everything, even the sex. Yes, NeNe. For most people that’s what divorce means. NeNe’s looking to live the single life as a player and that means continuing to string sleazy John along. Minus 12 . If I never see this man again it will still be too soon. Unfortunately as long as he’s plying NeNe with fancy shoes and Rolex watches, she’ll keep taking his calls even if she looks wildly uncomfortable sitting next to him.

Tim Tebow Draws Thousands to Easter Sunday Church Service

Whatever you think of Tim Tebow, you can’t doubt his sincerity. On Easter Sunday, nearly 15,000 worshipers flocked to Celebration Church in Georgetown, Texas, to hear the newest New York Jet speak at that morning’s service. Churchgoers gathered in fields for a music-filled outdoor service, with people flocking from miles around to hear and see the deeply devout Christian football star. Tim Tebow Easter Church Service During the service, the former University of Florida star turned NFL sensation, who was recently traded , joined the pastor on stage for a 20-minute interview. “It’s OK to be outspoken about your faith,” said Tebow, the son of former Baptist missionaries who became known for wearing Bible verses on his eyeblack. Tebow good-naturedly talked about the craze known as “Tebowing,” noting that he’s done it for the past seven years now and doesn’t mind being parodied. It means prayer is being talked about, he says, which is what matters. Tebow recently reached out to the church’s pastor, Joe Champion, about visiting his congregation, and Easter Sunday happened to the best date for the football star. On a typical Easter, the church attracts about 10,000 people, Champion said. So Tebow proved a big lure for people who would otherwise not have come. “In Christianity, it’s the Pope and Tebow right now,” Champion told the congregation on Sunday morning. “We didn’t have enough room to handle the Pope.”

The Blue Velvet ‘Ingrid Bergman Mashup Thought Experiment’

Because one good Lynchian turn deserves another: “I found myself intensifying the experience of Jeffrey’s scenes with Dorothy with a kind of conceptual narcotic inhaler: it involved, ahem, imagining Isabella Rossellini was her mother and that Kyle MacLachlan was actually playing this love scene with Ingrid Bergman. And it is very easy to do – not merely because Rossellini looks and sounds so much like Bergman, but because of the film’s intense noir atmosphere. Perhaps I need therapy. But there is something in the infectious and mesmeric weirdness of David Lynch which makes it feel all right.” [ The Guardian ]
