President Obama Praises Supreme Court Health Care Ruling; Celebrities Tweet Reactions

After the U.S. Supreme Court upheld Obamacare on Thursday, the President who fought and sacrificed for the controversial law praised the 5-4 ruling. While the court placed limitations on Congress’ power to regulate commerce and the U.S. government’s ability to restrict state funds, the law stood. The survival of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (PPACA) – pejoratively or affectionately called Obamacare – signaled a major victory for Barack Obama. “Today’s decision was a victory for people all over this country whose lives are more secure because of this law,” Obama said in a televised statement. President Obama Reacts to Supreme Court Health Care Ruling “I know the debate over this law has been divisive,” he added. “It should be pretty clear that I didn’t do this because it was good politics.” “I did it because I believe it is good for the country.” Obama encouraged on his Twitter account for Americans to share what the Supreme Court ruling means to them and some celebrities did just that. Here’s a sampling of some stars’ reactions … Jason Alexander: “I applaud the Supreme Court and congratulate the President today. The bill isn’t perfect, we can fix it, but it’s the right direction.” Piers Morgan: “Must be a lot of people watching Obama’s SCOTUS speech just now, thinking: ‘That’s why we voted for him.'” Bette Midler: “Obama Health Care passes! The wing nuts must be boiling!” Deepak Chopra: “I will be honored to be taxed for compassionate health care.” Sophia Bush: “I am so grateful for the Supreme Court, and I heart Barack Obama so much right now. He cares about us, the average citizens of this country, more than he cares about pleasing all the scared-to-change people in power. That’s heroic, admirable, and exactly what we need. F–k yes Mr. President, you are a unicorn.” – on a photo of Obama on a unicorn Bush posted. Holly Robinson Peete: “I run a non profit and talk to real people every day all day. Families cannot afford healthcare.” Seth MacFarlane: “We gotta stop that tycoon from turning our park into a shopping mall.” John Legend: “Supreme Court has me in a good mood right now. America getting closer to universal access to affordable health care. It’s about time.” Christina Applegate: “Um, for those who want to move to Canada because of ObamaCare, you may want to look up Canada healthcare on Wikipedia. Just saying’.” Jessica Stroup: “Hey Barack Obama this song’s for you now playing My Hero by Foo Fighters.” Star Jones: “I’m waiting for read the actual SCOTUS healthcare ruling…and try to make it ‘user friendly’ for most of us.” MC Hammer: “Strategy: Positioning this as a threat to lower income majority won’t gain any new voters, that card has already been played.” Waka Flocka: “ObamaCare!… just when they started to doubt my man.” Michael Moore: “It’s not ‘Obamacare’ – it’s Obama Cares.” Wanda Sykes: “Drama at CNN. I would love to be a fly on Wolf Blizter’s beard.”

Britney Spears Planning Late Summer Wedding

Pop star Britney Spears will be a late summer bride, apparently. Fiance Jason Trawick popped the question to Spears just after the end of her world tour and 30th birthday – and just before his 40th birthday – in December. Now the pair is in wedding planning mode, but thinking small. “It’s going to be a small event, a very intimate wedding with only immediate family and very, very close friends,” a source close to the situation says. “It will probably be a destination wedding in a very warm, tropical location. There is absolutely no drama with the planning of the wedding,” says the source . “Britney will probably wear a casual, off-white dress and her sons are absolutely going to be a part of the ceremony as ring bearers … Jason has something very special planned for the boys that will take place during the wedding.” Aww. What could that be, do you think? This will be the singer’s third marriage, although her first, to old friend Jason Alexander, was annulled after just 55 hours. She and K-Fed lasted about two years. Federline, her sons’ dad, has nothing but good things to say about Trawick. [Photo: WENN.com]

Jason Alexander on Britney Spears Engagement: So FAKE!

Britney Spears’ engagement last week was welcome news to millions of fans and celebrities alike, drawing praise from the likes of 50 Cent and even K-Fed . Jason Alexander, however, does not approve. Back in 2004, Brit’s childhood friend personified the term 15 minutes of fame … though it was more like 55 hours. They got married on a whim in Vegas. Their union was annulled less than three days later, but Jason Alexander likely got it in at least once – and continues to throw in his two cents about Brit. In short, he’s not a fan of Jason Trawick. “I know everyone wants me to be happy about this, but I am not,” Alexander, who is now in training for the World of MMA fighting competition (apparently), told Us . “I think it’s fake and I think people are afraid to say it.” “If you look at all the pictures between them there is no connection. They look like they are going through the motions. It seems like a answer to the court thing.” The singer is currently under the conservatorship of her father Jamie Spears, and Trawick, who once served as the star’s agent, meets Jamie’s stamp of approval. “Sort of a nice way to sew it all up; [Britney] marries her handler,” Alexander sniped. “That way she always has someone controlling her. It’s really sort of sad.” Or you’re really sort of bitter. Somehow we doubt he has much contact with Spears these days, has met Jason Trawick , or has any clue what he’s talking about.

The Voice Promo Pic: The Fab Four Return!

The Voice returns February 5 on NBC, right after the Super Bowl. Already pulling out all the stops to market its sleeper hit singing competition, the network is filming extended commercials to air … during its Super Bowl coverage. That’s one way to remind the audience what’s on next. Friday Night Lights creator Peter Berg recently filmed a spot featuring Christina Aguilera, Blake Shelton, Adam Levine, and Cee Lo Green. Here’s a pic from it: Why watch The Voice when there are a billion other shows like it? One 60-second ad, titled “Vokal Kombat,” plays off an element of The Voice that’s truly unique. The judges’ swivel chairs, which turn to face a contestant during auditions when a judge hears a singer that deserves a shot, are the focal point of the new ads. If more than one judge turns around to face the stage, they must compete against each other to win over the contestant, which can result in a battle royale. The Voice will be competing directly against American Idol , which kicks off its 11th season January 22. Is there room for two? Will you watch either? Both?

50 Cent to Britney Spears: Congrats, Girl!

Ever since Britney Spears got engaged to Jason Trawick last week, celebrities everywhere – and even K-Fed for that matter – have been wishing her all the best. One of more vocal supporters over the years (really) has been 50 Cent, who told told reporters at the VH1 Divas Celebrates Soul concert in NYC how happy he is. “I am so happy for her,” the rapper said , before musing, “Britney Spears had a rough time. The press took the biggest opportunity ever to dog her.” “When you reach that point, you work really hard to get where she is. It’s very interesting because the public likes to build you to destroy you for entertainment’s sake.” “I’m just really happy for her to be happy.” Fiddy continued by saying he thinks Britney is ready to be married for a third time (before K-Fed, she wed high school pal Jason Alexander for 55 hours). “I hope she is,” he remarked. “Wouldn’t you like to hope that? Let’s just put that out there in the universe, that she is ready.” She seems it. She and Jason Trawick, her former agent, were close long before they were a couple, and he’s been an enormously positive influence on her. [Photo: WENN.com]
