REVIEW: Paul Rudd Saves Our Idiot Brother from Total Idiocy

Jesse Peretz’s Our Idiot Brother is a feel-good movie for people who resist feel-good movies, a flawed vessel that nonetheless stays afloat by clinging to its buoyant star, Paul Rudd. Its problems are numerous and apparent: The picture meanders listlessly, and in the end it’s really more of a character sketch than a comedy — the movie’s writers, David Schisgall and Evgenia Peretz (the director’s sister), haven’t really bothered much with a plot. Yet I came out of Our Idiot Brother feeling better than I did when I went in. It’s the kind of movie whose value lies between the lines, not directly on them, and if the pleasures it offers are slender ones, at least there’s something good-hearted about them.

(If only Steve Jobs could invent a scratch-and-sniff computer screen; now that would be some useful technology. Anyway!) Michael Jackson Fans To Have Access To Cemetery On Anniversary Of His Death

Forest Lawn cemetery is providing limited access to grounds, but not to mausoleum where King of Pop is buried. By Gil Kaufman Michael Jackson Photo: Sony Fans all over the world are likely preparing for the one-year anniversary of ‘s death on June 25, and officials in Los Angeles are planning to help them commemorate the sad occasion. According to the Jackson’s fans are expected to get limited access to the Forest Lawn cemetery in Glendale, California, in two weeks to mark the anniversary. In plans expected to be finalized this week, Jackson’s admirers will be allowed onto the grounds of the cemetery but not into the Great Mausoleum, where the singer’s body was interred in September. “We understand that Forest Lawn is working with the Jackson family for some kind of commemoration,” said Glendale Police Sgt. Tom Lorenz. “We will be working closely with Forest Lawn to ensure the safety of those who want to pay their respects to Michael Jackson while ensuring the safety of others who are coming to the cemetery to pay respects to their loved ones.” Though fans will not be allowed in the Great Mausoleum, discussions are still ongoing about how close they will be allowed to get to the structure, which is also the final resting place of such Hollywood legends as Clark Gable, Carole Lombard, Jean Harlow and Red Skelton. “Basically, they will be viewing it from a distance,” Lorenz said. Jackson died on June 25 after suffering cardiac arrest at his rented Hollywood mansion. The Los Angeles County coroner’s office ruled that the 50-year-old singer died of “acute Propofol intoxication” in combination with the use of sedatives. Authorities have claimed that his personal physician, cardiologist Conrad Murray, administered a lethal dose of the surgical anesthetic to chronic insomniac Jackson in an attempt to help him get to sleep. Murray was charged with involuntary manslaughter in February in connection with Jackson’s death and has pleaded not guilty in the case. The doctor is out on $75,000 bail and faces up to four years in prison if convicted. Related Photos Michael Jackson: A Life In Photos Related Artists Michael Jackson

Paul Rudd Joined By Elizabeth Banks, Zooey Deschanel In ‘My Idiot Brother’

Rashida Jones and Emily Mortimer also join cast of comedy about a mama’s boy and his sisters. By Adam Rosenberg Paul Rudd Photo: Getty Images One of Paul Rudd ‘s next roles may be an “Idiot Brother,” but he sure has some beautiful sisters. Elizabeth Banks, Zooey Deschanel, Emily Mortimer and Rashida Jones will join the actor in the upcoming comedy “My Idiot Brother,” about a grown mama’s boy (Rudd) who visits each of his three successful sisters, bringing with him happiness and disaster in equal measures. The Hollywood Reporter revealed that Banks, Deschanel and Mortimer will play the three sisters. Banks is a single, career-minded journalist who is about to make it big; Deschanel is a bisexual woman who is having a hard time committing to her lovely girlfriend (Jones); and Mortimer is a Brooklyn mother who cares more about maintaining the illusion of a happy family than actually being happy. “My Idiot Brother” will be directed by Jesse Peretz with a script written by Evgenia Peretz and David Schisgall. Jesse Peretz is probably known best for directing the Zach Braff/ Amanda Peet 2006 relationship comedy “The Ex.” He also directed Rudd in 2001’s “The Chateau.” Banks recently completed a multi-episode run on “30 Rock” that she will likely reprise next season. Deschanel, who is touring on She & Him’s new album, will next be seen in the 2011 David Gordon Green-directed Middle Ages stoner comedy “Your Highness.” Mortimer was most recently seen in Martin Scorsese’s “Shutter Island,” which hit DVD/Blu-ray this week. And Jones, who stars in NBC’s “Parks and Recreation,” also has a starring role in the upcoming David Fincher-directed Facebook pic, “The Social Network.” Rudd’s upcoming movie with Steve Carell, “Dinner for Schmucks,” is out on July 23. “My Idiot Brother” is currently targeted for a 2011 release.
