Nothing like going out on top? Speaking with Studio 360’s Kurt Anderson , beloved director Steven Soderbergh reiterated that he plans to retire from filmmaking after he makes two more films. “When you reach the point where you’re like, ‘If I have to get into a van to do anther scout I’m just going to shoot myself,’ it’s time to let somebody else who’s still excited about getting in the van, get in the van,” Soderbergh said. “For the last three years, I’ve been turning down everything that comes my way, so you’re not going to have Steven Soderbergh to kick around anymore.” You will, however, have the opportunity to kick Soderbergh for his planned swan song.

Top 13 finalist tells MTV News she’ll dabble in more bilingual singing: ‘I have it in my blood.’ By Kara Warner Karen Rodriguez Photo: MTV News Newly anointed top 13 “American Idol” contestant Karen Rodriguez wowed the audience and judges’ panel earlier this week with her performance of Mariah Carey’s power ballad “Hero.” While her song choice wasn’t particularly unusual, the fact that Rodriguez chose to deliver the song in both English and Spanish was. When MTV News caught up with the bilingual, aspiring “Idol” champ after Thursday’s first elimination episode, we asked Rodriguez about her decision to sing in Spanish and what other songs she wants to do in two languages. “I decided to sing in Spanish because I am a Latina,” she explained. “I want to represent for all my Latinos out there. America is a big melting pot, it’s not only English, there are so many languages infused in this country and I just wanted to support my race,” Rodriguez said. “I have it in my blood, it lives inside me and I have to be who I am.” The 21-year-old went on to say that if America wants her to be the next “American Idol,” they have to accept her for who she is. “There’s nothing I can do to change that but just be proud,” she said of being Latina. A new report states that Vanessa Hudgens is getting close and cozy with Josh Hutcherson . But that’s nowhere near as scandalous as the claim made by The National Enquirer against Vanessa’s ex: this tabloid quotes a source who says Zac Efron was holding hands with a male at an NBA All-Star Game party at The W Hotel on February 18. “‘I was shocked at how relaxed and open Zac was with this guy,” says the anonymous witness. “He walked around talking to him, smiling and holding his hand right in front of everyone, including Vanessa. People were wondering if maybe it was a stunt to make Vanessa jealous. But, truthfully, Zac really seemed into the guy.” With no photos, no named onlookers and no reliable reputation for the Enquirer , we question the validity of this story. Then again, Efron is best known for starring in a musical…
After a bitter custody war with her own mom, Teen Mom 2 star Jenelle Evans decided to capitulate. For the sake of her 19-month-old son if nothing else. “When he is older, I’ll tell him I was really young and I couldn’t put a roof over my own head, let alone his,” says Jenelle of relinquishing custody of Jace. The oft-at-odds mom and daughter tandem is working together to raise Jace, with Barbara Evans calling the shots, since Jenelle blows at parenting . Jenelle, Barbara and Jace Evans. [Photos: Us Weekly] While Jenelle takes few film-studies classes at a local community college, Barbara cares for the boy after working her full-time job at a department store. As badly as Jenelle, 19, wants Jace back from her relentlessly critical mom, she realizes she’s just not there yet. Dumping Kieffer Delp was a good start. “Once I get a job, save money and have my own place for three months, I’ll bring my mom to court,” Jenelle says of her confrontational plan of attack. At least they’re getting along well enough to pose for Us Weekly . “Jace wasn’t asked to be born,” Barbara says. “Somebody has to take care of him, and it’s going to be me. I don’t resent it. I love him to death.”
