Family Business: Rihanna Is Suing Her Father For Trying To Capitalize Off Fenty Brand Name

Source: Caroline McCredie / Getty Rihanna Is Suing Her Father For Trying To Jack The Fenty Name It looks like Rihanna’s relationship with her father isn’t getting better any time soon. According to reports from  The Blast , the makeup mogul is suing her dad, Ronald Fenty–along with his company called Fenty Entertainment–for exploiting her name for his own gains. According to court docs, Ms. Robyn Fenty claims that her father along with another man, Moses Perkins, created the entertainment company and have been soliciting business acting as agents of the singer, the site reports. The singer says she is not involved with Fenty Entertainment what-so-ever, and that “Although Mr. Fenty is Rihanna’s father, he does not have, and never has had, authority to act on Rihanna’s behalf.” Rihanna claims that her father booked a $15 million tour in Latin America and two concerts at the Staples Center in LA and the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas for $400,000, for which she says she has no involvement in. Rihanna also says that her father claims he got approval from her label, Roc Nation, before booking, but the singer argues that no one from Roc Nation knew about the endeavors. Rihanna, who has multiple business endeavors under the Fenty name including Fenty Beauty, Savage X Fenty, and Fenty PUMA, says she sent several cease and desist letters to her father and his partner, but to no avail. Rih is asking the judge to place an injunction on Fenty Entertainment, and for the damages, according to reports from  TMZ . As we mentioned before, Rihanna’s relationship with her father hasn’t been too positive in the past either, and she has spoken previously about him being physically abusive to her mother. Valeria Lukyanova: Embarking on New DJ Career!

Human Barbie Valeria Lukyanova is embarking on a new career … as a DJ! She announced as much in a press release on her official site. The controversial model, who aims to subsist on air and light instead of food, has baffled the Internet with her eye-popping proportions. Not to mention her quotes. H-Barb also claimed she was sent to Earth by a spiritual leader called Amatue (we could not make that up). Now Valeria (her “Earthly name” apparently), has her eye on bigger, better things as she kicks off her Space Barbie Tour in October. “Valeria Lukyanova (Human Barbie) starts her DJ mission with futuristic deep house and space disco,” the press release reads. Why should you attend? Because “she delivers pure deep meditation during her set with amazing sounds and mudras show.” She performs in “a way that touches all the energy centers” to increase “the rhythm and [change] the consciousness of the audience.” Her show “will resemble a fascinating musical journey into the deep space.” Sounds even weirder than these Valeria Lukyanova photos . But tight. The Human Barbie tour will involve stops in Latin America, the U.S., Japan, China, Australia, and several European countries. I think that it’s never too late to share my Bieber experience,…

View post:

I think that it’s never too late to share my Bieber experience, so here I go. My name is María Fernanda, I’m from Venezuela and I’ve been a proud belieber since 2010. When the dates for the My World Tour in Latin America came out, I was in Spain. I was so sad because the tickets were expensive and none of my friends had the money to buy my ticket. A month later, we were in Venezuela and we joined all the contests to win tickets for Justin’s concert, but we lost. Two days before the show, a friend told us that she had two tickets for me and my sister to see Justin on October 19, 2011. We started to cry and called our mom, telling her it was our dream. On October 18, 2011 we woke up early in the morning to travel  5 hours to Caracas. On the way, my friend said that we should try to meet Justin. We went to the airport of Maiquetia and there was the plane on the runway. We stood in front the airplane, I was so nervous. Suddenly Pattie came out, she is flawless and beautiful. Kenny came out next, I couldn’t believe it. Then came Carin and then Fredo. Fredo was so nice and said, “HOLA VENEZUELA!” Our face’s were priceless because when Fredo reached the bottom of the steps, we saw the love of our lives, Justin Bieber. He was eating some Haribo candy while holding his Louis Vuitton luggage, wearing an Adidas outfit and a cap. I don’t have words to describe how perfect this moment was. My heart was beating so fast to the point I thought I was going to faint. He came with us and said, “Hey nice to meet you!” and he extended his hand to mine to shake it. I said, “Nice to meet you too. Welcome to Venezuela,” and he said, “Aw thanks.” We stood by his side for a picture and I said, “Omg I’m gonna die right now.” He started to laugh. When he went to say goodbye to all of us, he hugged us and kissed our cheek. I hugged him so hard and I said, “I love you so much,” he said “I love you.” Then he going to the airplane again and I called Scooter over and asked him to take a picture with us. He said, “No,” did a serious face and then said, “just kidding of course.” We took a picture with him and Kenny joined in. The next day at the show we saw Scooter and he said hi to us again. -@mfernandamerlo See the article here: I think that it’s never too late to share my Bieber experience,…

Linkin Park To Premiere ‘BURN IT DOWN’ Video On MTV!

Band will debut the clip Thursday, May 24, during “MTV First: Linkin Park,” followed by a 30-minute interview on MTV.com. By Kara Warner Linkin Park’s “BURN IT DOWN” Photo: Warner Bros. Records Hey Linkin Park fans, are you ready to see the music video for the band’s chart-climbing single ” BURN IT DOWN ?” Get ready for a little Christmas in May, because Chester Bennington, Mike Shinoda and Joe Hahn will be on hand to introduce their brand-new clip via its global premiere on MTV Thursday, May 24, as part of “MTV First: Linkin Park.” After the global premiere of the video at 5:53 p.m. ET on MTV, the band will stick around for a meaty 30-minute interview with MTV News’ James Montgomery on MTV.com. Fans can get in on the action by submitting their reactions to the clip in the comments section or on Twitter (using @MTVNews, hashtag #MTVFirst). During “MTV First,” the rock stars will also answer your Twitter questions and dish on the latest news. “What’s interesting about this video is that we’re really trying to capture a live kind of element with the band playing very similarly to how we would perform live,” Bennington told MTV News recently when we were lucky enough to visit the video’s set. “The fact that we’re playing broken down, kind of like we’re playing live brings that organic vibe to the video, makes for this really cool almost plugged-in look that we have.” “As the band has gotten older lyrically, my favorite [songs] over the past couple years have a lot of layers to them,” Shinoda said of the band’s evolution. “Part of that comes from the fact that all along, Chester and I, we have different life experiences and we tend to write the lyrics together, so although we’re writing one song, we’re coming at it from two different experience points. He may be writing about one thing he’s thinking and I might be writing about something completely different.” The global partnership positions “BURN IT DOWN” to reach more than 600 million households around the world via MTV’s global network of more than 60 channels and over 300 digital media properties in 150 plus territories. In the U.S., the video will debut during “MTV First” and will also premiere across MTV’s channels in Canada, Europe, Latin America, Australia, Asia and Africa. Florence And The Machine ‘Unplugged’ To Premiere Sunday On MTV

Band’s stripped-back set will also be available as a live album available digitally at midnight on April 9. By James Montgomery Florence and the Machine Photo: Kevin Winter/ Getty Images Back in December, Florence and the Machine stripped things down for a taping of MTV’s venerable “Unplugged” series. Not surprisingly, this presented a rather unique set of difficulties for the usually raucous band, though not the kind you’d expect. “It’s such a huge thing, and it was so intimate, and I really enjoy doing things stripped back and having the strings and the choir. It was really wonderful,” Florence Welch told MTV News. “But what to say in between? I got so bashful. I was so grateful to be there, and I was trying to express that, and it just went into this weird, stilted speech. It ended up with me trying to talk but not saying any words…. Singing is fine. Talking, not so much. ” Then again, we suspect Welch is just being modest. On Sunday, April 8, Florence and the Machine fans will get to witness every intimate moment of the band’s “Unplugged” performance and decide for themselves, beginning with the premiere at 11 p.m. ET on MTV and Unplugged.MTV.com . (Machine-heads in Europe, Latin America and Asia can watch at FlorenceandtheMachine.MTV.com .) Then, at midnight on April 9, the Florence and the Machine: MTV Unplugged album will be released via iTunes. The album hits physical retailers on Tuesday, April 10. “I genuinely hope they don’t include my talking,” Welch laughed. Sorry, Flo, but there’s going to be a bit of your between-song banter. Of course, there’s also going to be no shortage of amazing performances in the 10-song set, including stirring takes on her hits “Dog Days Are Over,” “Shake It Out” and “Cosmic Love,” plus a pair of covers: “Try a Little Tenderness” and “Jackson” (with guest vocals by Queens of the Stone Age mastermind Josh Homme). Judging from that list of songs, you’d think the “Unplugged” taping was a well-rehearsed affair. But as Welch explained, nothing could be further from the truth. “We kind of winged it. I felt really comfortable; I’m kind of in my element in that environment, when you’re able to really play, ” she said. “The thing I don’t enjoy about TV performances is that I have to sing live to a backing track, because most times they can’t afford to mic up the whole band, so you have to sing to something that’s just going to keep going, with or without you. And performing in a stripped-back sense, with a band that’s playing around you? It’s so organic and there’s so much freedom to it.” Welch’s “Unplugged” performance has already earned rave reviews from one very prominent guest: Kanye West, who was front-and-center for the taping and made his approval known from the very get-go. “He was dancing and really going for it in the front row — it was amazing,” Welch said. “At awards shows you can’t really see anyone, because there’s lights and they’re kind of far away, but for this, it was just like Kanye was just there. I covered ‘Try a Little Tenderness,’ and he’d just sampled that for the Watch the Throne album, so I was like, ‘Um, hi … you kind of got there before me, but I’m going to do this now, and it’s kind of for you.’ He was smiling the whole way through, and I think he’s a total genius, so to have him there was really incredible.” Related Videos MTV News Extended Play: Florence And The Machine Related Artists Florence + the Machine

Taylor Swift’s Finest ‘First’ Moments

Swift premieres her ‘Hunger Games’ video ‘Safe & Sound’ on ‘MTV First: Taylor Swift’ Monday (February 13), followed by an exclusive chat. By Jocelyn Vena Taylor Swift Photo: MTV News Taylor Swift will sit down with MTV News’ Sway Calloway on Monday (February 13) for “MTV First: Taylor Swift,” during which she will premiere her video for “Safe & Sound,” followed by an exclusive 30-minute chat. Swift isn’t new at getting the “First” treatment. In May 2011, she sat down with Sway for “MTV First” to premiere her video for “The Story of Us.” During their interview, Swift got personal, even sharing what she loves to do most in her hometown of Nashville, among other things. Before Monday’s latest installment of “MTV First” with Ms. Swift, MTV News is taking a look back at her finest revelations from the May 2011 episode. What does Taylor like to do in Nashville? “Nashville … you want to go to Hillsboro Village ’cause it’s really cute — this little bohemian shopping district. It’s walking distance from my place. There’s this coffee place, Fido, that I love. There’s a restaurant called City House that’s really cool,” she said. “I love the grocery store. The grocery store’s one of my favorite places.” Where’s the weirdest place she’s ever written a song? “The weirdest place I have ever written a song is probably in an airport, and I got an idea so fast that I just had to run to the bathroom at the airport, grab a paper towel and write lyrics on the paper towel,” she said. “I still have it. I still have it in a box in my room.” What place in time would Taylor most want to travel to if she could? “I would want to see, probably, New York City around the turn of the century,” she said. ” ‘Cause, you know, it looks drastically different now than how it probably looked back then, and I just think that would be really exciting.” So, how much do Sway and Swift like each other? “That was a wonderful, wonderful experience,” she said of meeting Sway for the first time in 2008 for the MTV special “Once Upon a Prom.” From there, the pair relived all their greatest interview moments — including chats on red carpets for shows like the VMAs and the Grammy Awards . The gentlemanly Sway later handed her flowers. And so it seems there’s no lack of love there. Come Monday night, expect Sway and Taylor to make more memories, and you never know what interesting insider tidbits Swift will share. “Safe & Sound” is the lead single off the “Hunger Games” soundtrack and features the Civil Wars. Following Monday’s video premiere — which will also air live on MTV’s channels in Canada, Europe, Latin America, Australia, Asia and Africa — the Grammy-nominated singer will sit down with Sway for a 30-minute interview on MTV.com. Fans of the superstar can get in on the action by submitting questions via Twitter @MTVNews with the hashtags #AskTaylor or #MTVFirst. CMT will air “Safe & Sound” at 8 p.m. ET, the same time the music video will debut exclusively online at MTV.com, CMT.com, VH1.com and MTV’s international sites. On Tuesday morning, VH1’s “Big Morning Buzz Live” will feature the video at 10 a.m. ET/PT. The “Hunger Games” soundtrack, which also features Arcade Fire and the Decemberists, drops March 20. The movie hits theaters on March 23. Don’t miss the premiere of Taylor Swift’s “Safe & Sound” video during “MTV First: Taylor Swift” on Monday at 7:54 p.m. ET on MTV, followed by an exclusive chat with Swift about her “Hunger Games” clip on MTV.com. Can Bruno Mars’ Hooligans Take Home Grammy Gold?

MTV News takes a look at the history of Album of the Year nominee Doo-Wops & Hooligans. By Jocelyn Vena Bruno Mars Photo: Redferns Bruno Mars showed he was more than just B.o.B and Travie McCoy’s hook guy when he dropped Doo-Wops & Hooligans back in October 2010 — and he’s got an Album of the Year nomination at Sunday’s Grammys to prove it. With an ear for vintage-sounding details and a love for a good melody, Mars unleashed an album that would spawn megahits and make the Hawaii native (and former Elvis Presley impersonator) a household name, not to mention the go-to guy for the likes of hip-hop legends Eminem and Lil Wayne. For the smash debut, Mars hooked up with his production team, the Smeezingtons (Mars, Philip Lawrence and Ari Levine), as well as A-list talent like songwriter Claude Kelley, producer and collaborator Damian Marley and former Fall Out Boy leading man Patrick Stump. The result: an album that paid homage to Mars’ love of, you guessed it, doo-wop and proved that he has a talent for crafting modern-day pop songs that could connect with a wide-ranging audience. Never forgetting his roots, he also worked with “F— You” collaborator Cee Lo Green and brought B.o.B on the album. “I want the world to fall in love with my music, that’s what I’m doing music for. I want to be able to do shows and have people come and see me do my thing,” Mars explained to MTV News back in 2010 about the album. His wish certainly came true. When it dropped, Doo-Wops & Hooligans debuted at #3 on the Billboard albums chart and has since sold nearly 1.5 million copies. The love didn’t end there: “Just the Way You Are” and “Grenade” topped the charts, and “The Lazy Song” peaked at #4. Mars found a way to keep everyone talking, displaying his creativity not only in song, but also in videos. The clips for those tracks were almost as buzzworthy as the songs themselves. The VMA-nominated video for “Grenade” managed to capture the sadness of the song, with Mars dragging a piano through the streets of Los Angeles only to find that his lady love no longer loves him. “It was my concept,” the singer explained about the video. “I said, ‘I want to drag a piano.’ I got my friend Nabil to come direct it, and it was a risk, because I still hear jokes to this day like, ‘What the hell you doing dragging a piano?’ ” he said. “But it’s my art, so shut up!” He also had everyone buzzing when he dropped his video for “The Lazy Song.” Where “Grenade” relied on heart, the “Lazy” video was all about making everyone laugh. It featured dance crew Poreotics (from “America’s Best Dance Crew”) done up in monkey masks dancing alongside Mars. In fact, it even got a Best Choreography nod at the VMAs . “We worked really hard on it, and we wanted to give people something to laugh at and show personality in the song and what we’re talking about,” he said. ” ‘The Lazy Song’ is not necessarily the song you want to hear in the club, but we put our monkey dance to it.” Now his focus is on trying to take home a shining Grammy statue come February 12. And it’s not just his album the Grammys have recognized, but also his heartbreaking ballad “Grenade,” which is up for three awards at the show including Record of the Year, Song of the Year and Best Pop Solo Performance. “Worked extremely hard on ‘Grenade.’ That was the hardest song on the whole album to finish, because we knew we had something and to get all that emotion out,” he explained. “I think I can speak for all of us when I say that we’re really happy that that song is being recognized, because that’s like our trophy song. “Incredible. We worked really hard,” he added about all the recognition the album has received. “We worked hard in the studio right down the street, actually. And it’s a little tiny shack, but for the two years we were in there, we just locked ourselves in that room and came up with Doo-Wops & Hooligans. ” Chaos! Profanity! Wardrobe malfunctions! Don’t miss Sway and James Montgomery live from the Grammys red carpet this Sunday, February 12, for a full three hours of mayhem, starting at 5 p.m. ET on MTV.com.
