Lady Gaga New Year’s Eve Performance: Watch Now!

For native New Yorker Lady Gaga, it was a dream come true. The singer performed live in Times Square on New Year’s Eve, treating Little Monsters to a medley of “Heavy Metal Lover,” “Marry the Night” and “Born This Way.” She began the routine in a costume that looked like a cross between Jabba the Hutt, a giant squid and a sequined Pac-Man. Your guess is as good as ours really. Soon enough, she changed to a (relatively, for Gaga) normal black body suit, Catwoman mask and globe-structure thing. Watch her NYE performance below: Lady Gaga – Live in Times Square 2012 Gaga later helped NYC Mayor Bloomberg push the button to drop the Times Square ball after changing into a sparkly Versace number. What a way to start 2012! Always emotional but rarely like this, she got a little choked up talking to Ryan Seacrest about the whole thing. Lady Gaga Is ‘Fearless’ In ‘Marry The Night’ Video

Born This Way collaborator Fernando Garibay calls the clip a ‘thank you’ to Gaga’s label, Interscope. By Jocelyn Vena, with reporting by Vanessa WhiteWolf Lady Gaga Photo: Joe Scarnici/ WireImage Lady Gaga has said the 14-minute “Marry the Night” video is an avant garde look at her early struggles before hitting it big, and frequent musical collaborator Fernando Garibay told MTV News he remembers seeing a lot of that strife that plays out in the clip. “She directed the whole video. It was her concept from beginning to end,” he said. “It was amazing to see. I was brought in to do the music for the video and additional scoring and such, and so I got to sit and watch the whole process. It’s pretty spectacular. It’s still breathtaking how much effort and input she has for concepts. … I might be biased, but it’s my favorite video so far. It looks great, and it captures the feeling of the song. It’s her story.” So what exactly is that story? The video follows a fictionalized Gaga pursuing her dreams as a ballerina. After she’s told to quit, she reinvents herself and becomes a pop sensation. It mirrors her real-life story of being dropped by Island/Def Jam before being signed to Interscope Records, and the rest is history. “It wasn’t easy — that’s like an understatement,” Garibay said of Gaga’s early days in the industry. “It wasn’t easy for her to get started in the music business, and I was there early on when she was already taking extreme risks. And a lot of the stuff, it’s tough to watch, ’cause I’ve seen that happen, some of those parts. And her honoring and paying homage to Interscope — ’cause it’s great, ’cause it’s our label and they were always believers in us, particularly her — so it’s great to see that. It’s like gratitude. It’s like a ‘thank you.’ ” In the lead-up to the video, Garibay said his pop-star pal wasn’t in any way scared to put so much of her life out there for public consumption. “I don’t think she’s nervous at all,” he said. “She’s fearless. There’s nothing to hide with her. She really put a lot of herself out there this time, but it’s something we see all the time. It’s nice for the public to see the story and what happened and the true expression of herself in video. It is very autobiographical. She’s been wanting to tell the story, so she finally got the opportunity. So it’ll be interesting to see what’s gonna happen next with her vision.” What did you think of the “Marry the Night” video? Lady Gaga Reveals Favorite ‘Marry The Night’ Scenes

‘The entire story’s true, and it’s through the lens of how I choose to repaint my past,’ she tells MTV News. By Jocelyn Vena, with reporting by Matt Elias Lady Gaga performing “Marry the Night” at the 102.7 KIIS FM’s Jingle Ball Photo: Joe Scarnici/ WireImage Lady Gaga’s “Marry the Night” video debuted last week to all the pomp and circumstance you’d expect from the Mother Monster. After several teases, the nearly 14-minute-long video was an insider’s look at the struggles Gaga went through before she hit it big. Based on her experience of being dropped by Island/Def Jam before getting picked up by Interscope Records, the pop superstar uses some creative license in the clip to share with fans the life-changing experience. “This was one of the first times that the fashion didn’t propel so much of the story line,” she told MTV News at Los Angeles’ Jingle Ball concert of the self-directed video. “It is autobiographical, so the entire story’s true, and it’s through the lens of how I choose to repaint my past.” While many of the Grammy nominee’s past videos have been focused on the visuals — especially what she’s wearing — Gaga said “Marry the Night” was a whole different monster. “Even though the fashion’s important, for the first time, it didn’t dictate every single moment,” she said. “The aesthetic was more driven by the emotion of the song and the feeling of New York City. It was more cinema, art-house inspired.” While there’s many memorable scenes and looks in the video (including a mental breakdown in which she smashes Cheerios on her naked body, some “Fame”-inspired dance routines in spandex and, of course, a mental-hospital scene that features a very stylish hospital gown), Gaga explained what she loves the most in the video. “I do really love the ballet sequence,” she said. “The Noritake shoes with the latex ballet outfit, the sort-of broken ballet moment I thought was really beautiful.” While her BeDazzler never makes a cameo in the video, a reference to it and an outfit that is blinged out with sequins remains an equally unforgettable scene. As Gaga is trying to reinvent herself after she is told to give up on ballet, she heads to dance rehearsals wearing her Madonna “Who’s That Girl” finest (denim completely covered in sequins) on her way to pop superstardom. Gaga used to BeDazzle her clothes pre-fame, but now, more famous people BeDazzle for her. “I used to use glue as well, just straight Gem-Tac glue with rhinestones,” she said. “But, for example, that outfit was a costume made my Versace. But back in the day, I had just wreaked some havoc on old denim.” What do you think of Gaga’s “Marry the Night” fashion? Let us know in the comments! Related Artists Lady Gaga

Lady Gaga Describes ‘Marry The Night’ Breakdown As ‘Honest Moment’

‘It is my personal way of seeing things. I am the artist of my own life,’ Gaga says of her self-directed video. By Jocelyn Vena Lady Gaga in her “Marry the Night” music video Photo: Interscope/ VEVO Lady Gaga exorcises her demons in her nearly 14-minute-long clip for “Marry the Night,” which premiered Thursday night. Depicting Gaga’s journey from an early career trauma to her reinvention as a successful pop star, she intended for art to imitate life in the clip. For those wondering what left Gaga so traumatized, she explained it all to E! News preceding the video’s premiere. The video is a metaphor for how she felt when she was dropped from her first record label, Island Def Jam, before landing at her current home at Interscope. “It was one of the worst days of my life and it happened quite quickly. But in my mind, when I think back on that period of my life, it all happened very slow,” she explained. “It is my personal way of seeing things. I am the artist of my own life. I choose to tell you what happened,” she continued. “If you give up after something like that, you were never destined to be an entertainer.” In the video , after hearing from her ballet director that she should quit, she restructures her goal and plots her rise to pop stardom. “In order to be great writing music or at fishing or at being a mechanic or designing buildings, you have to acknowledge what is wrong with your work, or what is dishonest about it,” she said. “What have I not been really great at?” Those obstacles, she says, are a big part of what makes her who she is now. “I love the obstacles,” she said. “To marry your obstacles means I, the artist, wholeheartedly accept everything you throw at me. I am destined to struggle, I am destined to write music about the struggle and I accept it willingly.” There are several scenes where Gaga is naked and experiencing a mental breakdown in her apartment. “Well, I was naked in real life when it happened,” she said, referring to the moment she found out she’d been dropped. “That’s probably the most honest moment in that video of everything I’ve ever done. My directorial decision was for them to just f—ing roll the cameras, because I couldn’t go in and out of the moment. I wonder if I will actually release that scene in its entirety — it’s about 30 minutes long.” “It was intensely important to me that it was not too beautiful,” she added. “It was an incredible experience. It was amazing. It was absolutely amazing.” This marks the first time that Gaga has directed a video all on her own. She recently split from her longtime creative director Laurieann Gibson , however, she clarified how the Haus works during the interview. “I have always been the creative director, and the Haus of Gaga has always been the creative force behind what we’ve done. There really aren’t many tremendous changes. “I know it’s my directorial debut, but I’ve really created everything I’ve ever done in my career,” she continued. “I really didn’t do anything differently on this video that I didn’t do on the ‘Telephone’ video or the ‘Paparazzi’ video or the ‘Bad Romance’ video. I hope my fans will take from this the progression that you have to trust yourself to make mistakes.” While the subject matter of the video is dark, there are also some tongue-in-cheek moments. “I always believe that you walk the line of humor if you’re being so incredibly serious,” she explained. “There’s something quite comical about the opening of the video, even though it’s quite sinister and dark,” she said. “It’s meant to be comical.” So, how would Gaga sum it all up? “In essence, it’s insight into my entire creative process and the way that I view things,” she said. Lady Gaga’s ‘Marry The Night’ Video Will Be ‘Perfect’

Little Monsters outside the new Gaga window displays at Barneys tell us what they expect from the clip, which debuts Thursday (December 1). By Jocelyn Vena, with reporting by Brian Phares Lady Gaga Photo: Emmanuel Dunand/ Getty Images Have you RSVP’d for Lady Gaga ‘s wedding yet? On Thursday (December 1), Gaga will make it official with all things nighttime when she premieres her self-directed video for her track “Marry the Night.” Shot in Gaga’s hometown of New York City in October, previews have shown that in Gaga’s world, anything can happen, including vintage-feeling trips to the psych ward and “Fame”-esque dance numbers. When MTV News caught up with some of Gaga’s Little Monsters outside of Barneys in New York City, they weighed in on what they thought might go down in Mother Monster’s latest video. “I had some inside info … lots of explosions, lots of hair, lots of makeup, lots of symbolism, lots of Gaga,” Catherine Lloyd dished. “It’s gonna be perfect.” Kyle Larkins has no doubt that the video will be all Gaga all the time. “I have no idea what to expect from the ‘Marry the Night’ video. It’s Gaga,” he said. “She’s crazy in all wonderful ways, so I’m looking forward to see what she’s going to come up with.” “My expectations are that it’s going to be over-the-top,” Alisa Lopez added. “She derives most of her inspiration from, well, her videographical inspiration — from Michael Jackson’s videos, Madonna’s videos — so I’m expecting it’ll be longer than 10 minutes.” While no one but Gaga knows what will happen in the video until it drops, Vanity Fair was on set during filming, and Gaga described it as “autobiographical,” adding that she’s “getting ready to relive the worst day of my life” in the clip. Shot on the day when Gaga was wheeled through a hospital on a gurney, she added that “it’s chaotic and sad. But I don’t want it to be safe.” The scene reportedly is based on a situation in her real life. Fan Amy Guerra made this guess about the video: “I’m expecting Gaga to reveal some stuff that we don’t know about her. … I am really excited to see it because I’m a big fan of her and I know she’ll just meet my expectations.” Related Videos Lady Gaga: Inside The Outside

Lady Gaga Loses Her Head on X Factor UK

Lady Gaga lost her head on Sunday night on X Factor UK. Talking the stage to perform “Marry the Night,” Mother Monster was decked out in a gown that made her appear headless as she emerged from a crypt (obviously). As torches burned around the stage, her dancers did most of the acrobatic movements, allowing Gaga to stick to the middle of the stage in her unusual costume. When the song closed out, the MTV Europe Award winner went back in the box and reemerged in a black bodysuit, immersing herself in the gothic dance number. Watch vintage Gaga in action below!
