George Clooney on Release of Demi Moore 911 Call: Stupid!

The whole online world now knows that Demi Moore was “smoking something” last week, and the act resulted in a “semi-conscious” state that left at least one friend in a panic. That’s because the 911 call placed on behalf of the actress was released to the public, something that’s permitted in our justice something and something which befalls most celebrities who end up in the hospital. But George Clooney doesn’t believe this should be the case. Demi Moore 911 Call “I think it’s a stupid thing,” the actor told The Insider . “I think it’s stupid for anyone, whether they’re celebrated or not, I don’t believe their 911 call should be broadcast around the world, but that’s my opinion. What’s happening and what people have to remember is that people are getting famous from Facebook and Twitter, so it’s not just about people here, it’s about everybody. There won’t be any version of privacy. So it’s going to be a tricky thing.” It’s a tricky subject indeed. Where do you stand on it? Should 911 calls be made public?

Cynthia Nixon Amends Statements on Homosexuality, Classifies Self as "Bisexual"

Cynthia Nixon is trying to dig herself out of the hole she created with comments last week to The New York Times . A few days after stating that, for her, homosexuality is a choice and that she did does care for the term “bisexual,” the former Sex and the City star has given a new interview to The Advocate . In it, she clarifies that her initial statements referred solely her story and added: “I believe we all have different ways we came to the gay community and we can’t and shouldn’t be pigeon-holed into one cultural narrative which can be uninclusive and disempowering. However, to the extent that anyone wishes to interpret my words in a strictly legal context I would like to clarify: “While I don’t often use the word, the technically precise term for my orientation is bisexual. I believe bisexuality is not a choice, it is a fact. What I have ‘chosen’ is to be in a gay relationship.” Nixon concludes: “Our community is not a monolith, thank goodness, any more than America itself is. I look forward to and will continue to work toward the day when America recognizes all of us as full and equal citizens.” The star’s original classification of homosexuality as merely an option created quite an uproar, with gay celebrity chef Cat Cora labeling the claim ” dangerous ” and asking for Nixon to address the younger members of this community in a more thoughtful, responsible manner. She now appears to have done so. [Photo: WENN.com]

Krauthammer: Classified Leaks in Bush and Nixon Years Got You a Pulitzer Prize, With a Dem President You’re Condemned

Charles Krauthammer on Friday made a truly wonderful observation about how differently the media handle leaks of classified information depending on whether there’s a Democrat or a Republican in the White House. As the discussion on PBS’s “Inside Washington” moved to the Wikileaks affair, the Washington Post’s Colby King said, “I don’t see it as such a difficult issue at all for the Pentagon. It’s, you know, it’s our material, it’s not [Wikileaks’].” This led Krauthammer to ask, “How come in the Bush years and the Nixon years, when you leaked stuff that’s our material, classified material, you end up with a Pulitzer Prize, and now if you have a Democratic administration, you end up being condemned from left and right?” He continued, “I’m not sure I understand” (video follows with transcript and commentary): GORDON PETERSON, HOST: Let me touch on something in terms of we talked about last week, and that’s the Wikileaks issue. The Pentagon now wants to get its hands on all of these papers. What are the odds of that? We don’t know if this guy will give them up, I mean he’s publishing them everywhere. JOSH GERSTEIN, POLITICO: Right, well and there this fascinating bid  by Wikileaks, I think a pretty interesting play by them. They’ve actually gone to the Pentagon and said, “Well, yeah, we would love to discuss with you what’s exactly sensitive in here. Why don’t you come to the table and talk about it?” I think the Pentagon is saying they have not really been asked that, but that is what Wikileaks is saying, which would put the Pentagon in a very awkward position because they, you know, there’s talk of prosecuting these folks. They do not want to be sitting at the same table with them going through page by page… PETERSON: Well, Admiral Mullen says they’re putting lives at risk. COLBY KING, WASHINGTON POST: I don’t see it as such a difficult issue at all for the Pentagon. It’s, you know, it’s our material, it’s not yours. We’re not going to negotiate with… GERSTEIN: Well, but their materials may be in your newsroom as well. KING: That’s okay. GERSTEIN: Should they come over and pick those up? KING: They can ask us for it. We won’t give it to them, but they have every right to demand it. CHARLES KRAUTHAMMER, SYNDICATED COLUMNIST: But if it’s such a simple issue… KING: But you don’t negotiate it. KRAUTHAMMER: If it’s such a simple issue, how come in the Bush years and the Nixon years, when you leaked stuff that’s our material, classified material, you end up with a Pulitzer Prize, and now if you have a Democratic administration, you end up being condemned from left and right? I’m not sure I understand. I’m not sure I do either. After all, just how many Pulitzers were passed out to so-called journalists during the Bush and Nixon years for leaking classified information? And how many went to members of the Washington Post? Yet there’s the Post’s King for the second week in a row taking a position that he likely didn’t take in the previous decade or under Nixon, and probably wouldn’t if McCain was in the White House. As such, why the double standard?

CNN’s Rick Sanchez: Nixon/Kennedy Debate Took Place in 1962?

Rick Sanchez stumbled again on-air on his CNN program on Monday, getting the year of the famous Kennedy-Nixon television debate wrong by a margin of two years. Sanchez, who was trying to describe South Carolina Democratic senatorial candidate Alvin Greene’s first public speech as the “converse” of the debate, initially guessed 1962 as the year of the debate , but then broadened his answer to ” early ’60s ” . The anchor, who misidentified the Galapagos Islands as Hawaii during CNN’s live coverage of the February 27, 2010 Chilean earthquake, and “joked” that it was too cold in Iceland for volcanoes on April 15, brought on correspondent Jessica Yellin to discuss Greene’s speech. Twenty-one minutes into the 4 pm Eastern hour, Yellin mentioned how she had “talked to the audience [at the speech] beforehand….Every single person I spoke to was a skeptic before, and almost all of them said they’d vote for him afterwards or support him.” This detail surprised Sanchez, who then launched his comparison between Greene’s speech on Monday and the historical Nixon/Kennedy debate: RICK SANCHEZ: Really!? YELLIN: Yeah- SANCHEZ: You know, this is like the converse of the Nixon thing. Remember how people watched the speech there after Nixon- YELLIN: Right. SANCHEZ: Debated Kennedy- 1962? Nineteen-sixty- anyway, early ’60s . Yellin smiled and nodded uncomfortably after her CNN colleague gave that wrong answer, but didn’t explicitly correct his gaffe afterward. Sanchez continued with his recollection of history: SANCHEZ: When Kennedy debated Nixon, everybody who was in the audience said- oh, my God, Nixon killed him- just destroyed him, wiped the floor with him. Yet, everyone at home said- no, Kennedy won that by a mile, and it’s because they could see Nixon’s perspiration, and the camera goes in so tight, and you saw the stubble and the- you know, the five o’clock shadow- YELLIN: (unintelligible) (laughs) Right. SANCHEZ: Well, we were watching this guy here on television and he did come across- jumpy, nervous, jittery, inexperienced, and sweating like he was- like, sweating too much. YELLIN: Right. You know, it was- SANCHEZ: Is that what’s going on here? The CNN anchor, who sparred with this author after the Iceland “joke” back in April, did get a kick out of a Tweet I made after correspondent Brooke Baldwin spilled her secret about her recent engagement, ” stealing [his] thunder ,” as I put it. Sanchez read and displayed my Tweet on-air after a commercial break. Here’s looking at you, Rick!

Cynthia Nixon and Christine Marinoni

The couple Cynthia Nixon and Christine Marinoni, together since 2004, became engaged a year ago. Asked how life has treated her since then, Nixon replied, “I#39;m enjoying being engaged very much. I don#39;t mind a long engagement, which this one is surely turning out to be.” Her wedding to Christine Marinoni might not be imminent, but Cynthia Nixon can promise ahead of time that she won#39;t be a drama queen leading up to the big day. “No, no Godzilla wedding,” the S-ex and the City star, 44,
