First Black NBA Player Gets Posthumous Basketball Hall Of Fame Induction

Continue reading here:

T he late legendary basketball player Chuck Cooper was a trailblazer who broke color barriers in the realm of sports. 35 years after his passing, the Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania native has finally received a long overdue honor. According to Celtics Wire , Cooper was posthumously inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame. Chuck Cooper, first black NBA player, enshrined at Hall of Fame https://t.co/3JNtPnaEDl — The Celtics Wire (@TheCelticsWire) September 7, 2019 Cooper was a second-round pick during the league’s 1950 draft; making him the first African American player to enter the NBA. He was selected by the Boston Celtics. Before he launched his NBA career, he broke racial barriers at the collegiate level while playing at Duquesne University where he was an All-American and became the first Black player to compete in a basketball game below the Mason–Dixon line. Cooper—who had a 6-foot-5 and 210-pound stature—spent four years with the Celtics and also had stints with the Milwaukee Hawks and the Ft. Wayne Pistons. His journey in the NBA was no easy feat. He had to deal with racist taunting from crowds and was banned from restaurants and hotels due to the color of his skin. After his time in the NBA, he played with the Harlem Magicians basketball enterprise but eventually ended his sports career after suffering back injuries from a car accident. Several basketball legends were in attendance to honor Cooper including Bill Russell , Kareem Abdul-Jabbar , Isiah Thomas , Julius Erving , Dominique Wilkins , and Ray Allen . “The NBA’s color barrier was broken, and the game of basketball forever changed,” said Cooper’s son said during the induction ceremony. “It truly amazes me how the early African American pioneers played at such a high professional level while having to sacrifice, endure, and withstand the overt racism and social injustice of that time period.” Black athletes who have forever changed the landscape of sports are finally being recognized by the organizations they’ve impacted. Cooper’s induction comes weeks after a sculpture of Althea Gibson —the first African American to win a Grand Slam title and the first Black person to win at Wimbledon—was recently unveiled outside of Arthur Ashe Stadium in Queens, New York during the U.S. Open tennis tournament. Politics As Usual: Jay-Z & NFL Get Flamed (AGAIN) For Donating To Org That Allegedly Supports Trump, Cuts Dreadlocks & LOOOVES The Cops

Source: Andy Kropa / Getty Jay-Z & NFL Get Slammed For Donating To An Organization That Allegedly Supports Trump, Cuts Dreadlocks & Loves The Cops *Sigh* Jiggaaaa, my nicckkaaa. Jay-Z and Roc Nation continue to find themselves in a deeper hole when it comes to their politics. Recently, the group announced that they would be partnering with the NFL as part of their Inspire Change initiative to donate $400,000 to two Chicago charities — the Better Boys Foundation Family Services organization and the Crushers Club. Well, surprise, surprise… Folks did some digging into one of the organizations, and it seems they don’t fully ride for Black people despite their surface-level charities. Twitter user @RzstProgramming brought up AAALL the receipts. They dug up old tweets and social media posts from Crushers Club and it was revealed that… 1. They have a history of gleefully cutting off Black boys’ dreadlocks. 2. They support Donald Trump helping Chicago with gun violence. 3. They believe “All Lives Matter.” 4. They practically fawn over the Chicago Police Department. *Sigh.* It seems most of the smoke is aimed at Crushers Club president Sally Hazelgrove who, according to now deleted tweets, said things like: “And another Crusher let me cut his dreads off! It’s symbolic of change and their desire for a better life!” “And another Crusher let me cut his dreads off! It's symbolic of change and their desire for a better life!” – Crusher Club President Sally Hazelgrove https://t.co/BgaYA2Ef6R — Resist Programming (@RzstProgramming) September 5, 2019   Ms. Sally also reportedly praised a kid’s Jr. Chicago Police Department status: “Our Jr CPD they cant wait to arrest someone! Especially hearing they can start making 70k as a cop!” The Crusher Club also encourages youth to grow up and incarcerate others to earn a living. “Our Jr CPD they cant wait to arrest someone! Especially hearing they can start making 70k as a cop!” https://t.co/clpwx8aDrA — Resist Programming (@RzstProgramming) September 5, 2019   The org ALSO reportedly said: “We need Trump to help us. Sad to say we need a curfew while we address our current crisis of gun violence.” Crusher Club said Trump is the answer for Chicago’s gang violence and called for a city curfew. “We need Trump to help us. Sad to say we need a curfew while we address our current crisis of gun violence.” https://t.co/wtWhiCKyIZ — Resist Programming (@RzstProgramming) September 5, 2019 Lawd, help us. At one point, when someone tried to point out on Facebook that Sally’s locs-cutting rituals were problematic, she responded with “I don’t see race.” Back to the hair cutting, on Facebook, Stephen Styles attempted to explain to Crusher Club President Sally Hardgrove how problematic the practice is. Sally responded, “I don’t see race” and says she will be more careful with comments, but doesn’t agree to stop cutting dreads. pic.twitter.com/NIgY0vET5W — Resist Programming (@RzstProgramming) September 5, 2019   Come on Jigga!! Sally tried to defend her hair-cutting proclivities in a statement to FADER , saying: “The Crusher’s Club does not have any policies prohibiting dreadlocks — we welcome all hairstyles from our youth. On occasion, our kids look to change their hairstyles and ask us to assist, especially since haircuts can be a costly expense for them. Our goal is — and will always be — to equip our youth with the resources to improve their neighborhoods, maximize their potential and develop into the leaders of tomorrow.” Okay Sally. AND they probably give the children some janky shape-ups! Anyway, hit the flip for more of Crushers Club’s alleged cop-loving, dreads-chopping, “All Lives Matter” history.

A Lil Positivity: Oprah Donates $2 Million To Puerto Rico’s Hurricane Maria Relief Efforts

Source: Michael Short / Getty Oprah Is Donating $2 Million To Charities In Puerto Rico Oprah Winfrey is joining in on the efforts to help Puerto Rico in the devastating aftermath of Hurricane Maria. The island has not yet fully recovered from the 2017 storm, which caused 3,000 deaths and billions of dollars in damage. The people of Puerto Rico need all the help they can get, and because of that, Oprah is donating $2 million — $1 million to Hispanic Federation and another $1 million to the Flamboyan Arts Fund, according to reports from The Oprah Magazine. “I was so moved by Lin-Manuel Miranda’s commitment to bring ‘Hamilton’ to Puerto Rico and support the community that served him growing up that I wanted to join in the revitalization efforts of an island so rich in culture, beauty, and heritage,” the mogul said in a statement. “The needs of Puerto Rico and our fellow American citizens following the tragic hurricanes are still very real, and the work that has already been done by the Hispanic Federation, Flamboyan Arts Fund and other organizations on and off the island is long from over.” Winfrey and her best friend Gayle King traveled to Puerto Rico to watch a performance of Hamilton earlier this year. Since the destruction of the hurricane, recovery and fundraising efforts have been coming steadily from a lot of stars, including Scarlett Johansson, Daddy Yankee, Pitbull, Jennifer Lopez, and so many more. The people of Puerto Rico still need a lot of help, but Oprah’s recent donation will definitely be a huge step in the right direction.

Yulia Terentieva is a model….who is represented by some pretty major people…and who has walked a lot of fashion shows….some major ones as recent as Paris Fashion week last week….She’s tall…she’s skinny and she’s not afraid to show titties for a photographer…which in turn makes her pretty fucking perfect… I guess, she’s just a good Russian who knows this is a direct line to the rich life, the rich husband life, far better than trying to escape through the mountains of Siberia….so you do what you’re told, Communist Work Camp work ethic, Russian Spy calculated sneakiness, Russian hooker sex skills…all bundled up into one pile of near perfect. perfect. Side note, I’ve heard she only fucks black athletes..which upsets all your white nationalists who support Trump and Tila Tequila…and I guess the more casual racists – because most white dudes will hate finding out their wife or girlfriend previously fucked black guys…I don’t know why – but it always makes me laugh… Now… here are those pics… The post Barbara Palvin for Maxim by Gilles Bensimon of the Day appeared first on DrunkenStepfather .

High School Dodgeball Team Appears to Dress Like KKK Members

This really isn’t very complicated, high school students of America: Do your best not to spell out really racist words at a class event and never the sport the kind of attire made famous by the country’s most infamous hate group. Unfortunately, seven boys at Mound Westonka High School in Minnesota were unable to abide by this second recommendation last Wednesday, as they donned garb for a dodgeball match that looked an awful lot like the sort of thing worn by members of the Ku Klux Klan. This may not have been their intention… but just take a look at the shirts and white bandanas being worn in the photos above and below. “I turned around, and the team behind me looked like they came in with a Ku Klux Klan uniform, or an interpretation of it,” senior Ryan Anderson told WCCO, the local CBS affiliate. “It was something to say the least.” The event was supervised by teachers and administrators, none of whom took any action during the game. But the district then received complaints after images were shared on social media. “Anybody who is well-versed in history can know that anyone with a pointed white hat is trying to symbolize the KKK,” a parent who asked to remain anonymous told KMSP. “There are not a lot of other organizations that can be confused with.” We’d have to agree. The district says that “appropriate action will be taken in accordance with district policy” if its investigation turns up anything worthy of punishment. For whatever it may be worth, the school’s population is 93 percent white, 3 percent Hispanic, 2 percent African-American and 2 percent Asian, according to The Washington Post.
