Wiz Khalifa Says ‘Roll Up’ Is ‘For Guys To Sing To Chicks’

Wiz talks to MTV News on the set of his Jake Davis-directed video. By Jayson Rodriguez, with reporting by Matt Elias Wiz Khalifa on the set of “Roll Up” Photo: MTV News Oh, that Wiz Khalifa is so clever. The “Black and Yellow” star followed up his breakout single, which reached #1 on the Billboard Hot 100, with “Roll Up.” When he spoke to MTV News late last year, he teased the song as a nod to his favorite pastime — his album is called Rolling Papers , after all. “The next single is called ‘Roll Up,’ surprisingly,” he coyly explained with a laugh. The song, however, is anything but smoke inducing: It’s more of the skirt-chasing variety. “I was trying to be funny, be clever as possible,” Wiz told us recently on the set of the video for “Roll Up.” “It’s for the chicks. It’s for guys to sing to chicks. And it’s just a fun song.” In the clip, directed by Jake Davis (Drake and Trey Songz’s “Successful”), Wiz said he is “courting a female that I’m into.” Instead of real-life love interest Amber Rose, however, the Pittsburgh rapper has his sights set on the female lead in the video, Bad Boy recording artist Cassie. “It’s really, really awesome,” Wiz said of her casting. After being named one of MTV News’ 11 for ’11 celebrities to look out for in the new year, Wiz has managed to put a lot on his plate. He’s gracing the cover of the new Rolling Stone , he’s scheduled to start the Green Carpet Tour next month, and he and Snoop Dogg are finishing up their “High School” movie and music joint effort. But first, Wiz has to drop his album — Rolling Papers , his major-label debut, is set for a March 29 release — after a long rise to stardom for the former underground favorite. “I been waiting to put an album out for a long time,” he said. “But I feel like now my sound, at this point, has grown and matured and it’s right where it needs to be at for people to get that perfect pull and debut album from me. I’m ready to deliver.” Are you awaiting the release of Rolling Papers ? Tell us below! Related Artists Wiz Khalifa

WikiLeaks Cables Reveal "Profound Hatred for Democracy on the Part of Our Political Leadership"

Noam Chomsky: WikiLeaks Cables Reveal “Profound Hatred for Democracy on the Part of Our Political Leadership” World-renowned political dissident and linguist Noam Chomsky discusses the release of more than 250,000 secret U.S. State Department cables by WikiLeaks. AMY GOODMAN: For reaction to the WikiLeaks documents, we’re joined by world renowned political dissident and linguist Noam Chomsky, Professor Emeritus at Massachusetts Institute of Technology, author of over a hundred books including his latest Hopes and Prospects. Forty years ago, Noam and Howard Zinn helped government whistleblower Daniel Ellsberg edit and release the Pentagon Papers that top-secret internal U.S. history of the Vietnam War. Noam Chomsky joins us from Boston… Before we talk about WikiLeaks, what was your involvement in the Pentagon Papers? I don’t think most people know about this. NOAM CHOMSKY: Dan and I were friends. Tony Russo, who also who prepared them and helped leak them. I got advanced copies from Dan and Tony and there were several people who were releasing them to the press. I was one of them. Then I- along with Howard Zinn as you mentioned- edited a volume of essays and indexed the papers. AMY GOODMAN: So explain how, though, how it worked. I always think this is important- to tell this story- especially for young people. Dan Ellsberg- Pentagon official, top-secret clearance- gets this U.S. involvement in Vietnam history out of his safe, he Xerox’s it and then how did you get your hands on it? He just directly gave it to you? NOAM CHOMSKY: From Dan Ellsberg and Tony Russo, who had done the Xeroxing and the preparation of the material. AMY GOODMAN: How much did you edit? NOAM CHOMSKY: Well, we did not modify anything. The papers were not edited. They were in their original form. What Howard Zinn and I did was — they came out in four volumes — we prepared a fifth volume, which was critical essays by many scholars on the papers, what they mean, the significance and so on. And an index, which is almost indispensable for using them seriously. That’s the fifth volume in the Beacon Press series. AMY GOODMAN: So you were then one of the first people to see the Pentagon Papers? NOAM CHOMSKY: Outside of Dan Ellsberg and Tony Russo, yes. I mean, there were some journalists who may have seen them, I am not sure. AMY GOODMAN: What are your thoughts today? For example, we just played this clip of New York republican congress member Peter King who says WikiLeaks should be declared a foreign terrorist organization. NOAM CHOMSKY: I think that is outlandish. We should understand — and the Pentagon Papers is another case in point — that one of the major reasons for government secrecy is to protect the government from its own population. In the Pentagon Papers, for example, there was one volume — the negotiations volume — which might have had a bearing on ongoing activities and Daniel Ellsberg withheld that. That came out a little bit later. If you look at the papers themselves, there are things Americans should have known that others did not want them to know. And as far as I can tell, from what I’ve seen here, pretty much the same is true. In fact, the current leaks are — what I’ve seen, at least — primarily interesting because of what they tell us about how the diplomatic service works. AMY GOODMAN: The documents’ revelations about Iran come just as the Iranian government has agreed to a new round of nuclear talks beginning next month. On Monday, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said the cables vindicate the Israeli position that Iran poses a nuclear threat. Netanyahu said, “Our region has been hostage to a narrative that is the result of sixty years of propaganda, which paints Israel as the greatest threat. In reality, leaders understand that that view is bankrupt. For the first time in history, there is agreement that Iran is the threat. If leaders start saying openly what they have long been saying behind closed doors, with can make a real breakthrough on the road to peace,” Netanyahu said. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton also discussed Iran at her news conference in Washington. This is what she said: added by: toyotabedzrock

Bristol Palin Defends Willow Palin, Sort of Apologizes For Gay Slur

With 16-year-old Willow Palin catching some serious heat for calling an old classmate a f***ot on Facebook, older sister Bristol stepped up to apologize. “Willow and I shouldn’t have reacted to the negative comments about our family. We apologize,” Bristol Palin wrote on her Facebook wall. “On a nicer note, thank you for supporting the great competition in Dancing with the Stars!” Nice plug. Bristol Palin has her sister Willow’s back . A few hours later, B-Palin added: “Thank you supporters who continue to support. The haters are already pulling out all the stops this week to destroy.” Yes, there it is. The conspiracy angle. Some misguided defenders of the Palins have opined that using the word f—-t is only bad because it’s Willow. Bristol did not specifically mention Willow’s gay slur directed at Tre , some dude who supposedly went to their school, and who updated his Facebook page Sunday with, ” Sarah Palin’s Alaska is failing so hard right now.” Not to take this biting criticism of her mom’s show lightly, Willow retorted: “Haha your so gay. I have no idea who you are, But what I’ve seen pictures of, your disgusting … My sister had a kid and is still hot…Tre stfu. Your such a f—-t.” For her part, Bristol joined Willow in bashing Tre, writing: “You’re running your mouth just to talk s–t.” She also singled out some guy named “Jon,” writing: “You’ll be as successful as my baby daddy, And actually I do work my ass off.” “I’ve been a single mom for the last two years.” Willow has since deleted her Facebook account. Should we care what a teenager says? Is it any less bad because the word is common? The question remains … Is Willow Palin homophobic?

Erin Barry and Tony Parker: Inside Their Sexting and Eva Longoria’s Revenge

Eva Longoria was devastated when she discovered her husband, Tony Parker, had been trading sexual texts with Erin Barry , the wife of his former teammate. Erin and Brent Barry had been close friends with Eva and Tony at one point, making the betrayal even harder on the Desperate Housewives star, reports say. That’s why she decided to blindside him by filing for divorce from Parker before they decided to take the breakup news public, according to Radar . Point, Eva! BARRY BAD CALL : Never text dirty with your teammate’s wife . “They were working out the details. They didn’t want it to become a messy divorce,” says a source. “Then Eva got a little revenge and didn’t tell Tony she was filing and dropped the papers on him, catching him off balance for the media blitz.” While some reports say the exchanges between Tony and Erin Barry were “innocent,” conflicting stories call the sext-messaging flirtatious, sexual and “over the line.” Erin Barry is also in the midst of a divorce from Brent. It’s unclear if the relationship with Parker ever became physical, but it sure sent Eva into a tailspin. Parker apparently claims it never progressed beyond texting. “Look, any wife is going to be upset with what Tony did, but he swears the relationship with Erin stopped there and they never had sex,” a source tells Radar . “And Tony also says the text messages ended months ago.” Doesn’t sound so minor when coupled with reports that Longoria herself not only filed for divorce out of nowhere, but leaked the story of Tony’s infidelity. “Suddenly, Eva Longoria not only filed the papers but then went public with Tony’s relationship with Erin Barry. He was surprised, to say the least.” Interestingly, initial reports of the couple’s demise said that Tony filed divorce papers in Texas. This was in fact the plan, but he never did so. “He held off,” the source said. “It had been discussed but then was abandoned. Next thing he knew she surprised him by filing on Wednesday.” Take that! Eva issued a brief statement confirming the split after the fact, and her reason for feeling burned is, honestly, quite understandable. “Eva is furious that Tony started a relationship with a woman she knew, a woman they went out with as couple friends,” says the insider. “She felt betrayed by Tony and this is how she decided to get a small measure of revenge.” Well played, Eva Longoria. Well. Played .

Morning Joe Burying Gore Story—Or Sending Subliminal Message?

Which is the bigger story: a few power companies out West have started a pilot program to promote solar panels, or . . . police announce they will investigate allegations of sexual assault against Al Gore?  I’d guess most people would go with ‘B.’ But when it came time to highlight a story from the front page of today’s Oregonian , Morning Joe went with the solar panels and ignored Gore . I was all set to play this as a plain-vanilla case of the MSM burying unwelcome news for a Dem, when another theory occurred to me: could the Morning Joe folks actually have found a cleverly subversive way of getting the Gore story out there, perhaps against the wishes of their network honchos? Have a look at the video of the Oregonian front page as Morning Joe displayed it during the “Morning Papers” segment [screencap after the jump]. Yes, Mika Brzezinski speaks only of the solar panel promo. But the camera pays at least as much attention to the other headline: “Portland Police Will Investigate Gore Case.”  Of all the stories in all the papers in all the world, why did Morning Joe choose the solar-panel nothing-burger?  Could it have been Mika and/or Joe Scarborough’s wily way of alerting viewers to the bad news for Al Gore?   Maybe someone in the know will give us the inside scoop . . .
