You Mad? Oprah Says You Can’t Be Her Friend If You Use The N-Word, Young Folks Don’t Know “Diddly Squat” About Civil Rights!

Harpo stands tall on her soapbox to tell black folks how we should live… Oprah Says You Can’t Be Her Friend If You Use The N-Word According to TMZ reports : Oprah Winfrey says she has no tolerance for anyone who uses the N-word around her — no matter the color of their skin — saying, “You cannot be my friend and use that word around me.” Oprah — along with Forest Whitaker — just spoke about the race issues with Parade magazine to promote their new movie “The Butler.” During the interview, Oprah was asked about the N-word — which becomes extremely relevant in the wake of the racial comments made by her former “Color Purple” co-star Rae Dawn Chong. As we previously reported, Rae lashed out against Oprah and said she would have been a “field n**ger” back in the slave days. Oprah never mentions Rae in the interview, but makes it clear she doesn’t respect people that throw that word around. “It shows my age, but I feel strongly about [the n-word] … I always think of the millions of people who heard that as their last word as they were hanging from a tree.” What about all the people that hear that word before they get a hug or some dap from their loved ones? The interview is interesting … with Oprah claiming kids today don’t know “diddly-squat” about the civil rights movement. She also explains why she thinks Martin Luther King’s dream has not been completely fulfilled. “Are more people judged by the content of their character than by the color of their skin? Yes. Is everybody judged by the content of their character? Absolutely not.” Why do you think these old heads have such a hard time relating to the youth today?? Let them tell it, all they do is listen to Beyawnsay and puff-piff. Image via AP

Sore Losers? Three Teenagers Stabbed, One Fatally, Near Baltimore Ravens Super Bowl Celebration Parade!

Life imitates ‘The Wire’ SMH Teenagers Stabbed And Steelers Fan Knocked Out At Baltimore Ravens Parade Via Baltimore Sun Three teens were stabbed, one fatally, in downtown Baltimore Tuesday afternoon, near the route of the parade celebrating the Ravens Super Bowl victory, police said. Baltimore police spokesman Anthony Guglielmi said the stabbing occurred around 1:30 p.m. near the intersection of North Howard and West Fayette Streets. He said one of the three victims, a juvenile, went into cardiac arrest and was rushed into surgery at Johns Hopkins Children’s Center, where the youth died. The other two stabbing victims were taken to the University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center. One was listed in critical condition; the other was expected to live, police said. Guglielmi said the victims are 15- and 16-year-olds, but police have not released their identities. He said he knew of no motive for the stabbing and were searching for suspects. Large crowds had gathered downtown around the time of the stabbing for a parade starting at City Hall and ending at M&T Bank Stadium to celebrate the Baltimore Ravens’ Super Bowl XLVII victory. “This was an isolated incident,” Guglielmi said. “The victims knew their attackers. We believe this stemmed from a dispute. At this point, there is no information to suggest that these individuals were involved or came here for the Ravens victory celebration. We’re still trying to parse out all of those details.” In an unrelated story, Black Sports Online reports that a man wearing a Pittsburgh Steelers jersey was knocked out by an unidentified Ravens fan for reppin’ the wrong set during the parade. RIP: Latin Superstar Jenni Rivera Dies In Tragic Plane Crash In Mexico

It’s been a sad couple of days for Jenni Rivera’s family, friends, and fans. The 42-year-old Latina superstar died in a tragic plane crash Sunday, December 9 near Monterrey, Mexico. Jenni was traveling on a private jet early Sunday with six others on the flight when it went missing. She was presumed dead when the wreckage was discovered Sunday afternoon with no survivors. According to US Weekly , her family released a statement and shared some information about the singer/reality star you may not have known: “We are feeling devastated. It’s a devastation to the family,” Rivera’s brother, Pedro Rivera Jr., told E! News. “We don’t know how to thank you for all the love you gave to Jenni and to all the family. It is just so special to have you guys as fans.” As family, celebs and fans are mourning her death, Us Weekly remembers the late singer’s life and career with five facts. 1. She sold over 15 million albums worldwide. The singer was nominated in 2003, 2008 and 2010 at the Latin Grammys. Rivera was the first female Banda singer (a brass-based form of traditional Mexican music) to sell out at the Gibson Amphitheater in Universal City, Calif. “I’m happy, I’m very happy for the success that I’ve had, but I’ve worked so hard at it,” Rivera said in April at Billboard’s Latin Music Conference (via CNN). 2. The daughter of Mexican immigrants, she was born and raised in Long Beach, Calif. Rivera, with one sister and and four brothers. 3. She is survived by five children. Rivera became pregnant with her first child in high school. She had three children with first husband Jose Trinidad Marin: Janney, Jacqueline and Michael. After the couple divorced in 1992, she remarried in 1997 and had two children with second husband Juan Lopez: Jenicka and Johnny. “Being a mother by far is my favorite and most important career,” she told Parade in August 2012. “They take priority over anything else.” 4. She was a reality television star. Rivera appeared in and produced mun2′s Jenni Rivera Presents: Chiquis & Raq-C in 2010, I Love Jenni in 2011 and Chiquis ‘n Control in 2012. “People kind of connect and identify with us because we are normal,” Rivera told Parade in August 2012 of her reality show. “We’re just like another other Mexican-American family. We are kind of nutty and silly.” 5. She was set to star in her own ABC show, Jenni. According to Deadline, she was going to star in the self-titled family comedy as a middle-class, single woman raising a family with unique parenting skills. We wish her family, the family of the other passengers on that flight, and those mourning their loss some peace during this terrible tragedy. Images via AP

High and Low: Ex-Collaborators Anderson and Baumbach Sow Solo Quirk in ‘Moonrise Kingdom’ & ‘Madagascar 3’

Onetime collaborators Wes Anderson and Noah Baumbach each have a new DVD release this week. The two last worked together on Anderson’s gorgeous and witty Fantastic Mr. Fox , and their idiosyncratic proclivities and points of view are very much on display at both ends of the High/Low spectrum. (As a bonus, both films feature Frances McDormand !) HIGH: Moonrise Kingdom ($29.98 DVD; $34.98 Blu-Ray/DVD/Digital Combo) Who’s Responsible: Written by Wes Anderson and Roman Coppola; directed by Anderson; starring Bill Murray, Frances McDormand, Bruce Willis, Edward Norton, Tilda Swinton and Bob Balaban What’s It All About: Misunderstood lovers Suzy (Kara Hayward) and Sam (Jared Gilman) run away together. The fact that they’re both 12 years old and living on an island off the coast of New England doesn’t stand in the way of their plans. Their romantic escapade sets off a flurry of activity among the local adults, including Suzy’s parents (Murray, McDormand), Sam’s scoutmaster (Norton), the local law officer (Willis) and Social Services (Swinton), whom everyone calls “Social Services.” Why It’s Schmancy: After turning off sections of his fanbase with the excessively twee The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou and The Darjeeling Limited , Anderson has definitely got his groove back with the one-two punch of Mr. Fox and this eccentrically charming love story. Our youthful protagonists take themselves and their relationship utterly seriously, and Anderson affords them the same dignity. From its tracking-shot close-ups to a memorable sequence of the lovers shimmying to ye-ye music, Moonrise Kingdom feels like Godardian amour fou filtered through Anderson’s visual (pop-up book) and emotional ( Peanuts -esque melancholy) sensibilities. Why You Should Own It: Given that Anderson’s first five features eventually got lovingly curated editions from The Criterion Collection, there’s a temptation not to shell out the original, studio-produced release. Still, this DVD features a few extras to tide you over, including tours of the locations (narrated by Balaban) and the sets (conducted by Murray) and a featurette. LOW: Madagascar 3: Europe’s Most Wanted (Dreamworks Home Entertainment; $29.98 DVD, $39.99 2-Disc Blu-Ray/DVD + Rainbow Wig, $54.99 3-Disc Blu-Ray 3D/Blu-Ray/DVD) Who’s Responsible: Written by Eric Darnell and Noah Baumbach, directed by Darnell, Tom McGrath and Conrad Vernon; featuring the voices of Ben Stiller, Chris Rock, Jada Pinkett Smith, David Schwimmer, Frances McDormand, Jessica Chastain, Martin Short, Bryan Cranston and Sasha Baron Cohen What’s It All About: After spending two movies escaping from a Manhattan zoo, lion Alex (Stiller), zebra Marty (Rock), hippo Gloria (Pinkett Smith) and giraffe Melman (Schwimmer) decide the Big Apple wasn’t so bad after all and turn tail (literally) for home. The journey involves run-ins with Monaco’s most notorious animal control officer (McDormand) and a crumbling touring circus. Why It’s Fun: The first two entries in this franchise felt generic and unfunny, but the addition of Baumbach to the creative team gives the enterprise a much-needed shot in the haunch. This time, we get plenty of laughs (of both the verbal and slapstick variety) and thrills for kids and their parents. There’s also a psychedelic trapeze number that’s the most mind-melting sequence in a kiddie cartoon since the “Pink Elephants on Parade” number in Dumbo — especially if your home theater is outfitted for 3D. Why You Should Own It: All the versions feature commentary from the three directors, and the Blu-Ray throws in an additional commentary track, pop-up trivia and a round-table discussion with the four stars of the Madagascar series. Chuck Pagano, Indianapolis Colts Head Coach, Diagnosed with Leukemia

Chuck Pagano is taking a temporary break from the sidelines. The Indianapolis Colts Head Coach, new to the gig this year, has been diagnosed with promyelocytic leukemia and will likely miss the rest of the season to undergo chemotherapy. “I feel with every fiber in my body, and I know Chuck feels the same way, that he can beat this thing,” Colts owner Jim Irsay said of the diagnosis. “He’s upbeat and he’s ready for the fight. He’s tough as nails. He’s in great spirits.” According to Indiana University Health, most adults with this form of cancer do achieve remission. In the interm, Offensive Coordinator Bruce Arians will take over as coach of the Colts. We wish Pagano a full and speedy recovery.

Philly Cop Hits Woman in Face, Suspended After Video Goes Viral

A police officer in Philadelphia was caught on video hitting a woman at the city’s 50th Annual Puerto Rican Day Parade, then suspended after the brutal clip went viral. Philadelphia Police Officer Hits Woman Department officials have launched an internal investigation since the 36-second video was uploaded to YouTube Sunday and titled “Philadelphia Police Brutality.” The video shows the woman collapsing to the ground after being bashed in north Philadelphia. She appears to be bleeding as she is led away in handcuffs. Moments before the woman (whose name has not been released) was hit, the video shows someone else throwing a liquid in the direction of police officers. The woman was also seen spraying something from a can. She was cited for disorderly conduct , according to Officer Tanya Little, a police spokeswoman. The officer in the video, identified as highway patrol supervisor Lt. Jonathan Josey, is reportedly eager to tell his side of the story to internal investigators. There is more to what happened at the daylong neighborhood party than the video shows, said John McNesby, president of the Fraternal Order of Police. “We’re hoping that it’s neither a whitewash nor a witch hunt,” McNesby said. “At the end of the day, his actions will be questioned, but I believe they can be defended.” “There’s a lot of tensions that are running high; there’s a lot of arrests that are made,” he said. “Each year people are arrested, and things aren’t pretty.” McNesby said that from what he understands about how things unfolded that day, police were trying to stop a driver who was “doing 360s” in the road. “A guy was spinning wheels and burning tires in the (road), police are trying to stop it and … as we’re doing it, things are being thrown, liquids are being tossed.” “It’s great to sit back, look at video, second-guess yourself and play Monday morning quarterback, but again at the end of the day, we don’t know what’s coming at us.”
