Bill Cosby Sentenced To 3 To 10 Years In Prison For Sexual Assault Conviction

Here is the original post:

B ill Cosby was sentenced on Tuesday to three to 10 years in prison for drugging and sexually assaulting a woman in 2004. Judge Steven T. O’Neill sentenced the 81-year-old following the conclusion of the hearing to determine how long he would be behind bars for being convicted of sexual assault. BREAKING: Bill Cosby, 81, is sentenced to three to 10 years in state prison for 2004 sexual assault. — The Associated Press (@AP) September 25, 2018 “It is time for justice. Mr. Cosby, this has all circled back to you. The time has come,” O’Neill said . It was unclear if Cosby would be immediately remanded to prison or if he would remain free on bail during an appeal, which was expected to be filed by defense attorneys. Either way, Cosby will serve at least three years and at most a decade behind bars. Bill Cosby is still in court. Judge and attorneys in chambers. The sentencing took place in Montgomery County Courthouse in Norristown, Pennsylvania, a suburb of Philadelphia. Cosby was found guilty in April during a re-trial that centered on claims from  Andrea Constand   stemming from an incident in 2004. “Bill Cosby took my beautiful, healthy, young spirit & crushed it,” Constand told the court Tuesday morning during her victim impact statement before Cosby was sentenced. “He robbed me of my health & vitality, my open nature, and my trust in myself & others.” More from Andrea Constand’s victim statement: Says she & her family were slandered in the media by Cosby legal team. Says Cosby legal team sought to “frighten & intimidate” her. Cites “psychological, emotional and financial bullying.” — Manuel Roig-Franzia (@RoigFranzia) September 25, 2018 The court also determined that Cosby would be labeled as a sexually violent predator, a point of contention that defense attorneys were arguing against. The prosecutor in the case was pushing for Cosby to serve 10 years in prison, but the judge hinted on Monday that the sentence may be closer to three years. Cosby’s legal team was asking for the comedian to be remanded to his home instead of a correctional facility. Prior to the sentencing, Cosby had the opportunity to take the stand and ask the judge for leniency and express remorse, but he chose not to. Cosby’s fall from grace has been especially notable because he built his career on a clean, family-friendly image that was shredded when he was indicted and ultimately arrested on Constand’s accusation that had gone all but ignored until Montgomery County District Attorney Kevin Steele won his election in 2015 and vowed to finish the job  he said his predecessor should have started. Allegations of the TV star having spent decades drugging and sexually assaulting women were initially suppressed before the claims grew louder and more abundant, ultimately reaching as many as 60 women accusing him. Cosby’s first trial resulted in a mistrial, but a retrial was granted based on the court’s admission of a previously sealed civil deposition during which Cosby admitted giving quaaludes to women, likening the action to how someone would offer a guest “a drink.” This week’s sentencing hearing began with the expectations that Cosby would indeed be sentenced, but defense attorneys tried a last-ditch effort to stall the proceedings on Monday. According to Deadline , Cosby’s “lawyers today made a last-ditch sleight-of-hand that could knock the two-day sentencing hearing off the rails right after it started and keep him from potentially going behind bars this week.” Accusers had an opportunity to speak directly to Cosby and the court during the two-day sentencing hearing, including former supermodel Janice Dickinson. The comedian’s wife filed an ethics complaint with the state judicial board last week claiming Judge Steven O’Neill was biased, but the accusation was never really expected to affect the sentencing. Love & Hip Hop Atlanta Scandal: Did Kirk Frost Knock Up His Side Chick?

We hope you are sitting down for this, Love & Hip Hop: Atlanta viewers. Because Kirk Frost may have gone ahead and really done it now. According to multiple reports, Kirk hasn’t just been caught cheating on his wife. He’s been caught cheating on his wife AND getting his alleged side piece pregnant! With a baby! Who has already been born! Media Takeout claims to have broken this news, writing on December 13 that Frost “had a baby with another woman.” It doesn’t get much more straightforward than that, does it? The gender of this child is unknown at the moment, but he or she is around four months old. Now, here is where things get both questionable and dramatic: Both Media Takeout and some website called “Funky Dineva” write that VH1 cameras were on hand when Rasheeda – who is married to Frost and who appears opposite her husband on Love & Hip Hop: Atlanta – learned of the baby news. And, as you might expect, she didn’t take it very well. Rasheeda supposedly flipped the eff out upon hearing that Frost had slept with some random woman and gotten her pregnant… … and this reaction just happened to have been filmed for an episode of Love & Hip Hop: Atlanta Season 6. But that’s not all: Frost’s side chick will allegedly appear on Love & Hip Hop: Atlanta Season 6! Now, look: would we love to watch Love & Hip Hop: Atlanta online next year and see this crazy drama play out? Absolutely. Heck, who are we kidding: we almost definitely will watch Love & Hip Hop: Atlanta online next year to see this crazy drama play out. But our intelligence is a tad bit insulted here. Can’t reality shows at least make an effort to pretend as though storylines are real? Back on Season 2, Frost hooked up with two women in a hot tub… ON CAMERA! He was accused last year of having apartment that he claimed to be use as an “office,” only it was an open secret that he really took other women there. So we’re not sure if we believe this baby mama rumor. Even if it holds true, however, how much sympathy are we really expected to have for Rasheeda? She has to be aware that her husband has both a wandering eye and a wandering penis? RIght? For what it’s worth, neither she nor Frost have addressed this latest chatter on social media. With talk of them being fired after each Love & Hip Hop: Atlanta season airs, however, it seems very possible that this is simply a conjured-up story to keep the couple relevant. And employed.

‘Harry Potter’ Faces Final Shot At MTV Movie Awards Glory

‘Deathly Hallows, Part 2,’ with six nominations, is up against ‘Twilight’ and ‘Hunger Games’ for Movie of the Year. By Josh Wigler Daniel Radcliffe in “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 2” Photo: Warner Bros. “The Boy Who Lived, come to thrive?” That could well be the case at the 2012 MTV Movie Awards . Just as Harry Potter bravely walked through the Forbidden Forest to meet his maker at Voldemort’s hands, so too does Team Potter approach its final chance at Golden Popcorn glory come the June 3 broadcast. “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part 2,” the eighth and last film in the Warner Bros. fantasy series, has scored six nominations, including nods for Daniel Radcliffe and Emma Watson, a Best Kiss nomination for Watson and Rupert Grint, and a coveted shot at Movie of the Year. Will this be the year “Potter” finally brings that top award home? With a big target out of the way, it just might be. For years at the Movie Awards, magic has succumbed to bloodsucking in the battle between “Potter” and “Twilight.” But with “Breaking Dawn – Part 1” netting only two nominations this year — one for Movie of the Year, another for Best Kiss — the path is considerably clearer for the boy wizard and his companions to make a run at the six awards for which it’s nominated. With a reduced “Twilight” presence at this year’s show, perhaps the odds are in Harry’s favor, to borrow a phrase from another fan-backed franchise. Then again, besting that franchise — “The Hunger Games,” if you’re one of two people who didn’t catch the reference — could prove trickier than destroying one of He Who Must Not Be Named’s Horcruxes for “Potter” fans. Breaking past $600 million at the global box office, “Hunger Games” brings both commercial and critical firepower to this particular race, leading the Movie Awards nominations with eight. The Jennifer Lawrence-led film managed second place during the MTV Movie Brawl 2012, scoring 1.7 million votes. “Potter” wasn’t eligible for that competition, of course, but it’s no slouch in the tournament department: Last year,

Childish Gambino Dodges Ninjas While Talking Ninja Turtles

On our First Date, we learn the five-year plan of the actor/rapper also known as Donald Glover. By Rya Backer Childish Gambino Photo: MTV News I never thought I’d seek refuge in Childish Gambino . OK, let me explain. After years of pursuing the multitalented, infinitely hilarious Donald Glover for a First Date, our stars crossed at long last, and we were able to get to know each other at Tribeca’s Ninja restaurant. There, serving up our Japanese food, were men in full ninja regalia, terrifying us at every turn. Whether it was brandishing a dagger as we headed to our table, jumping in front of elevator doors as they opened, throwing down a ninja star on the table before making a dessert or slinging a yellow water balloon (yes, you read right) at us mid-meal, it made for a dining experience that required a companion willing to commiserate in all the scare tactics we came upon. It was a fitting place to go, considering Glover is at the center of a grass-roots fan campaign to star as Donatello in the live-action remake of the “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles” movie (no doubt inspired by his own crusade to nab the title role in “The Amazing Spider-Man” ). Midway into the meal, he resolved that he’d make a good Donatello, as he tongue-in-cheekily bragged about his prowess in instilling fear in others. But a role as a hero in a half-shell isn’t the only aspiration on his horizon. When asked where he sees himself in five years, he said, “I hope just successful. Still doing stuff I want to do. I always wanted to just do whatever I wanted whenever I wanted. I never really expected rap to be anything, I don’t know if I’ll still be rapping, but it’d be nice to still be making music on some level.” We can’t wait to see — and hear — how he’ll get there. ‘Hunger Games’ Experts Weigh In On Josh Hutcherson, Liam Hemsworth

‘I think we were a little bit shocked,’ the Hob’s Amanda Belcher tells MTV News. By Amy Wilkinson Josh Hutcherson Photo: Alberto E. Rodriguez/ Getty Images Casting for the most anticipated love triangle since Edward, Bella and Jacob is now complete. On Monday, Lionsgate announced that Josh Hutcherson and Liam Hemsworth would star as Peeta Mellark and Gale Hawthorne alongside Jennifer Lawrence’s Katniss Everdeen in the big-screen adaptation of “The Hunger Games.” The news came on the heels of rumors that the two were front-runners among the pack of Hollywood’s young men auditioning for the coveted roles. Yet, despite a bit of early warning, “Hunger Games” fans and experts alike were largely surprised by the casting news. “I think we were a little bit shocked, especially when the rumors first broke last week that Josh and Liam were the front-runners,” said Amanda Belcher of the Hob . “We hadn’t really expected that out of all the people that were listed on the short list of people for both Peeta and Gale.” Fan reactions have ranged from pleased (@The SiennaSkye: “Josh Hutcherson was cast as Peeta Mellark!? YES! They picked a cutie!! (:”) to outraged (@meggiedear: “Worst. Casting. News. Ever. [Especially 4 Gale]. R.I.P. Hunger Games movie”). Yet, Belcher said many initially wary fans have changed their tune since the news first sent the Internet ablaze. “Surprisingly, I feel like when the official news got posted, they’ve come around a little bit,” she said. “There’s still quite a few who say, ‘I’m not going to watch this movie. I’m so upset at this casting.’ Then there’s a lot of them that say, ‘You know what? These aren’t our first choices, and we don’t really like them, but we’re going to put our trust in Lionsgate.’ ” One of the chief concerns among fans seems to be that Hutcherson and Hemsworth don’t closely resemble the characters from the book — an issue that was also raised following Lawrence’s casting. “I have a hard time picturing Josh and Liam as Peeta and Gale, but I want to give them the benefit of the doubt,” said “Hunger Games” Examiner Sara Gundell. Mockingjay.net administrator Kimmy West said most fans stuck on the actors’ looks will most likely get onboard once they see the stars’ chemistry and performances for themselves. “[The actors] have to prove to the fans that they’re the good person for the role. Because the moment that people realize that these actors are perfect in the role, hopefully then all the fans will warm up to them and agree that they are good.” What do you think of the Josh Hutcherson/ Liam Hemsworth casting news? ‘Glee’ Turns ‘The Boy Is Mine,’ ‘Jesse’s Girl’ Into Fight Songs

In ‘Laryngitis,’ Lea Michele’s Rachel murders Miley Cyrus’ ‘The Climb.’ By Jean Bentley The cast of “Glee” on Tuesday’s episode Photo: FOX It’s funny that during the week where “Glee” patriarch Mr. Schuester tasked the New Directions kids with finding solos that encapsulated their current life situations, so many of the characters stepped out of their normal roles instead. Tuesday’s episode of “Glee” was all about transformations: Kurt’s attempt to get his father’s attention transformed him into a flannel-wearing everyman; Puck’s shaved Mohawk transformed the popular jock into a less-intimidating (and less-popular) Gleek; and Rachel’s tonsillitis transformed the diva into a newly humble do-gooder. Lea Michele better watch her back, because the Kurt-centric plotlines with Chris Colfer kicking out the Broadway jams are slowly becoming the highlight of each week. Kurt’s still-unresolved daddy issues (examined rather snoozily in “Home” ) were dug up again as the young Cheerio spent the entirety of “Laryngitis” yearning for his father’s approval. Burt Hummel was still leaning on Finn for father-son bonding trips to baseball games and other manly activities, making Kurt jealous. Instead of, you know, talking to his father, Kurt decided that donning trucker hats, making out with Brittany and singing some John Mellencamp (“Pink Houses”) in an unsettling growl would endear him to his pops. (Imagine how hard it was for the fashionista — who gets distracted watching baseball because “there’s no excuse for stirrup pants” — to even touch flannel.) Shocker: It didn’t work. Even less of a shocker: Burt, who has already proved to be more understanding and accepting of his son’s homosexuality than anyone really expected, watched Kurt destroy (in the best way possible) the Broadway classic “Rose’s Turn” from “Gypsy” and finally had a heart-to-heart with his son, vowing to include him more in so-called “manly” bonding time. Puck finally landed a main plotline when his notorious Mohawk was forcibly shaved off. Sans edgy haircut, the McKinley High geeks were now able to look Puck in the eye and even throw him in the Dumpster. To get his reputation back on track, he decided to hook up with the newly popular “black girl from glee club whose name I can’t remember right now,” a.k.a. Mercedes. Rather smartly, Mercedes spurned Puck’s advances at first. But she finally gave in to the bad boy after he serenaded her with his glee club solo pick, Sammy Davis Jr.’s jazzy version of “Lady Is a Tramp.” Babymama Quinn gave Mercedes her blessing, but warned that he was only using her, and that Puck’s other paramour, Santana, wouldn’t be as accepting. Quinn was right, and an epic catfight brewed. This being “Glee,” of course, the fisticuffs were musical: Santana and Mercedes dueted on a fantastic “Glee”-ification of Brandy and Monica’s “The Boy Is Mine.” But after seeing Puck go back to his bullying ways once his rep was back to normal, Mercedes decided that she didn’t want to be a part of the popularity hierarchy after all and quit the Cheerios. Rachel came down with a severe case of tonsillitis, and absolutely murdered Miley Cyrus’ “The Climb.” Frantic that a tonsillectomy would ruin her singing voice, she spent the majority of the week panicking about her illness. Finn smartly used Rachel’s vulnerability and Jesse’s absence (he was on spring break with his Vocal Adrenaline friends) to ease his way back into Rachel’s heart. His solo, of course: “Jesse’s Girl.” To calm Rachel down, Finn took her to visit a buddy from football camp who was paralyzed from the chest down during a game. When he couldn’t play football anymore, he found out he was really good at math and enjoyed singing. He helped Rachel realize that she had other things going on too. She could be good at things other than singing. As a thank you, Rachel offered to give him voice lessons once a week, and led him in a rendition of U2’s “One.” What did you think of the Mercedes/Puck romance?
