A father of six, who was also an aspiring rapper, was shot and killed outside of a Queens, NY lounge on early Sunday morning (Oct. 8). Frank Snyder, 35, was gunned down in a drive-by shooting as he walked into the Tavern Lounge on Jamaica Ave. Reports the New York Daily News : “We were singing ‘Happy Birthday’ and next thing you know, everybody is going crazy,” said Tiesajah Reynolds, 20, who was working at the bar. “I didn’t even know what was going on until I saw (Snyder) on the floor gasping for air and blood everywhere.” Snyder was wounded in the neck and leg. Medics rushed him to Jamaica Hospital, where he died. He was hosting a birthday party for two fellow hip-hop artists at the Tavern Lounge when he was killed, according to an Instagram post. His mother, Debra Snyder, said investigators told her “he was outside promoting his music and it was a drive-by (shooting). He didn’t have enemies, but there was a lot of jealousy. He did shows in the club every Saturday,” she said. Snyder went by the moniker Hollywood Play and reportedly performed at the club every weekend. Police say there were several men in the car—a dark colored sedan—with the gunman. However, no arrests have been made.

During a recent appearance in England on The Jonathan Ross Show , Tom Hanks played a giant piano with Sandra Bullock. Incredibly, however, that was not the coolest thing the actor did this month. In an interaction captured on camera, Hanks meets an Autistic fan named Sarah Moretti backstage at his Broadway play, “Lucky Guy.” She presents him with a scrapbook of his career and Hanks is clearly overcome with shock and joy at the collection of his life work, gushing to Sarah: “This is so great! James Cameron will return to Pandora next year. The Avatar director, who attended the premiere of Peter Jackson’s The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey in Wellington, New Zealand on Wednesday, told the West Australian (via Total Film ) that he hoped to have the scripts to Avatar 2 and 3 completed by February, and to begin shooting by the end of 2013. Cameron, who owns a farm in New Zealand, said he was working on the scripts there, but complained that the beauty of his surroundings was “too damn distracting.” Nonetheless, the filmmaker said, “I want to get these scripts nailed down, I don’t want to be writing the movie in post-production.” He added: “We kind of did that on the first picture, I ended up cutting out a lot of scenes and so on and I don’t want to do that again.” The blockbuster director behind Titanic, Terminator and Aliens has said that he’s writing Avatar 2 and 3 together and plans to shoot them back-to-back to complete one long story arc. (He’s also suggested that an Avatar 4 could happen and the sequels could conceivably be populated with Chinese Na’vi . Cameron also predicted that Jackson’s decision to shoot The Hobbit at 48 frames per second — 24 is the standard — would do for high-definition filmmaking what Avatar did for 3D movies. “We charged out ahead on 3D with Avatar , now Peter’s doing it with The Hobbit . These kids today: When a 24-year-old woman saw a deli worker in trouble, she tried to help and ended up paying a painful price. Now she’s hoping a video will help identify her attackers. The victim, whose name and identity News 4 is protecting, suffered broken bones above her right eye and a fractured nose after being assaulted by some of these teenaged boys shown in surveillance video from the deli. The boys had been inside before the attack, filling their pockets with items they allegedly didn’t pay for. She happened to be outside the deli at the time and noticed the young brother of the owner chasing the alleged shoplifters confronting them. Then the mob, including some teenaged girls, turned on her. She was mercilessly beaten by six to ten people. “Within five seconds, [I] was surrounded by a group of boys who just started punching me in the face. And when I fell to the ground they kept hitting me, and I stood up once and they knocked me down again and started kicking me in the face and back,” the woman said. She said Buffalo Police showed up quickly, but did not make any arrests, even though she could identify at least one of the girls who was still on the street. She also says the boy, seen in the video wearing a red hat and red shirt in the upper right frame, was the one who initially punched her and broke bones in her face. The injuries will require surgery. The victim said, “The bone is fractured in multiple places, and my nose is fractured, so they have to put in a wire mesh to keep all the bones together so that my muscles can work properly. Right now my eyes aren’t moving correctly.” In another incident just days ago, four Buffalo State students were assaulted in another part of the west side at Grant and Potomac. One of the students was shot and all of them were robbed. Students are being warned not to venture to off-campus neighborhoods unfamiliar to them, to be aware of their surroundings and all time, and not to travel alone. The city is stepping up patrols around colleges and universities. Mayor Byron Brown said, “We don’t tolerate this type of crime anywhere, to anyone in the city. The police are following up very aggressively.” The mayor was not aware of the west side assault until we brought it to his attention on Tuesday.
