Robert Durst Talks Love of NFL, Opera in First Letter From Jail

It’s been almost a month since Robert Durst was arrested for the murder of Susan Berman, and if he’s convicted, the millionaire real estate heir could face the death penalty. Durst has been linked to a number of other disappearances , and though he’s beaten murder raps before, the odds seem stacked against him this time, and public opinion is certainly not on his side. So naturally, what’s weighing on Durst’s mind most heavily these days is – you guessed it – pro football and opera. Durst (or someone claiming to be Durst) recently sent a bizarre letter to Los Angeles Times reporter Molly Hennesey Fiske, in which he rambled about everything from LA traffic to a past medical ailment. “My interests are pro football and opera,” Durst writes in childlike, chicken-scratch script. “Your politics and business leaders have chosen to fight rather than agree to disagree and there was no football. “Liked LA opera except for Wagner’s Ring cycle with the absurd costumes and sloped stage, a true example of Hollywood gone berserk.” Durst went on to cover his bases legally by clarifying that the letter says nothing about “charges, crimes or trials.” He then extends an offer for the reporter to visit him when he “get[s] to LA.” The letter is signed simply, “Bob.” Seems harmless, but considering some of the stories about Durst that have emerged in recent weeks, Hennesey-Fiske is probably than a little creeped out by the experience of receiving the letter. Shortly after his arrest, the judge who presided over Durst’s previous murder trial claimed that the 71-year-old left a cat’s head on her doorstep as an act of revenge. Robert Durst Left Cat’s Head On Judge’s Doorstep, Victim Claims

The strange case of Robert Durst continues to get more bizarre by the day. On March 14, Durst was arrested in connection with the 2001 death of his friend Susan Berman. He has since been charged with first-degree murder , meaning that he could face the death penalty if convicted. In the days following his arrest, those who knew Durst best  – or simply encountered him during the decades-long period in which he somehow managed to avoid prosecution – have come forward with strange stories of the real estate heir’s troubling behavior. Earlier this week, Douglas Durst stated that he believes his brother killed seven pet dogs as “practice” before allegedly murdering his wife Kathleen McCormack in 1982. Today, Durst has been accused of another disturbing act of animal mutilation by the former judge who presided over the 2003 trial in which Durst was acquitted of the murder of Morris Black. In an interview with the New York Daily News, Susan Criss recalls making a horrific discovery outside of her home, three years after Durst’s trial concluded. “It was June 29, 2006,” Criss tells the newspaper. “I came home from work around 5 pm, and you can imagine how hot it was. I saw something on the walk that leads straight to my front door. “It was a little gray cat that had been cut behind the shoulders. It was a head with its two front legs…It was not just thrown there, it was placed there. “I believe it was Robert Durst. I know this guy had a history of cutting up his dogs.” Criss says she first ran inside to make sure that Durst had not harmed her dogs. She then called local police, who performed several tests, but were unable to prove that Durst had killed the cat. Criss says she believes Durst left the head as revenge for her testifying against him at his parole hearing. Though he has yet to be convicted of a murder, Criss says that she believes “Robert Durst is a serial killer.” 17 Celebrities Who May Have Killed People 1. O.J. Simpson View Photo O.J. Which Glee Cast Members Are in Danger of Being Replaced?

This week Glee creator Ryan Murphy announced that he will be kicking several of his New Directions stars to the curb in 2012 because “there is nothing more depressing than a high schooler with a bald spot.” Well, except for a middle-aged white-rapping teacher who chooses to relive his glory days by dancing suggestively in front of a packed high school auditorium…but I digress. This is a serious threat for not only devoted Gleeks, but for the less talented, more aged actors posing as promgoers. (I’m talking to you, Monteith). Below, Movieline identifies which stars are highest on the endangered Glee -cies list.

REVIEW: True Love (and Good Filmmaking) Goes Awry in All Good Things

All Good Things , Andrew Jarecki’s feature follow-up to his dark family scrapbook Capturing the Friedmans , has got a whopper story, two magnetic leads, and a killer case of the directorial bends. Where Friedmans , a documentary, derived athletic momentum from its balance of gold mine material and Jarecki’s skillful dedication to ambiguity, All Good Things seems to cast around inside its story of a rebel heir and the bluebloody tragedy his life becomes. It tries on this angle and that tempo, but never finds a confident design for its content or its characters. I want to say it’s the kind of thing a director can miss by a millimeter, but Jarecki’s telling of the Robert Durst story flails too far off course, too often, to retain the viewer’s good faith.
